  • Do you ever find yourself tightening up, leaving your art feeling stiff? In this video, I demonstrate how to loosen up, EMBRACE the mess, and (eventually) turn it into something beautiful. This video is Part 2 of a 2-part series.
    You can watch Part 1 here: • How to Loosen Up Your ...
    The more practice we have turning things around, the less scary it becomes when we find ourselves in a rough spot. Once we get used to these rough spots being a normal part of our creative process, they become a problem to solve which is often a fun, satisfying part of the process. Let this be a reminder to keep showing up!

    These videos really gave me a few aha! moments, Jackie. Sometimes, when I felt "oh, I don't care for that large area", you then added a loud, often small element within it and it completely defused the energy of my "irritant". I so admire your determination.

      @jackieschomburgart P.S. I am addicted to creating black and white patterned art! I loved the b&w panel you made with the organic shapes -- and the glazing technique you used is so effective!!

    I think you did a wonderful job with these Jackie! I pretty much loved all of them in most of their stages.
    I also realised that my own brain has a lot of resistance to change - i knew that in life but hadn’t appreciated how it translates when i’m painting. So even with my “least favourite children”, as soon as i pick them up to work on them i find things to love. Which isn’t helpful! And then i overdo it and keep working on each piece long past the point where i’ve got stiff and lost sight of what I’m meant to be doing. Aaargh!

      Oh yes- “my brain has a lot of resistance to change” 🙌🏻 Well said! It’s all a process ❤️ Keep showing up and keep doing it - you’ll overcome the resistance (aaaaaand then it will creep back in…. and you’ll show up and overcome it again… and so on 😆) ❤️❤️❤️

    I just love watching you work and it is so inspiring. I'm just getting started, it's so overwhelming, I would be a very happy camper if I could make anything that even approaches the kind of work that you do.
    With that said, just to say, it is particularly helpful to hear you talk through your process. Especially when you can be specific. For example, in this you talked about thinking about value as in light and dark in order to guide you in your decision-making process for what to do next.
    I'd love to hear you talk a little bit more about things beyond that as in how you make decisions about design and how you make decisions about color in addition to value.
    Thanks for all you do, so happy to be following along and just hope that I am lucky enough to find the habit of doing art everyday.

    Great stuff Jackie. Ive done this many times. Here in Scotland artists have "Open Studio" weekends and sometimes weeks. Studios are open to the public. Framed paintings can be too expensive for many folk, but they loved to go away with something. l found my postcard paintings with envelope went like hot cakes at £5. Thanks for another fun video ❤....Alioban ps love a pop of red 😉

    This is basically my favourite way to make postcards.
    Start on a big sheet, and then cut it smaller in stages.
    You can also make the most lush beads from them. Or use them for journals.
    Love it!! 🖤

    Really enjoyed this and part one. Love seeing your process and your thought process too. 💜💜💜
    Do you find you approach your art differently depending on how your ADHD is that day?
    Does it influence the style or type of art you make?

    • @jackieschomburgart
      @jackieschomburgart  6 місяців тому +2

      I think the biggest difference i notice (and often my biggest obstacle), is that some days i just don’t make art. No other plans. No restrictions. Just a messy desk that I would need to tidy up before I have space to make the art… but should I spend the 20 minutes tidying up? Or should I just push it aside to make art for the 20 minutes instead? And I overthink and churn between those two (or more) options for HOURS and I end up wasting time/getting distracted and doing neither. So at the end of the day, my desk is still messy and I have painted nothing. And I feel like I really missed an opportunity, and tomorrow I’ll do the thing! (And sometimes I do and sometimes I churn and overthink again.)

    My friend - I NEEDED this today. Playing with 12 6 x 6" pieces and I got to the place where everything was so tight it was driving me crazy!!!! For the one you say you really like (black and white) that you'd hang on the wall - do you ever use these small ones to actually then turn into a big painting?

    • @jackieschomburgart
      @jackieschomburgart  6 місяців тому +3

      I don’t. lol it seems strange, but whenever I try to re-create something by that already exists, it ends up looking like a less-free, less fun, flat-feeling copy. The marks I make in the very beginning before I know what anything is going to look like are my favorite and recreating that sense of freedom and play doesn’t work well (at least not for me). That said, I DO take color palettes that I really like and use those to inspire for larger work. So, in that sense, when I find colors and shapes that I like, I will use those in future work, but try not to focus too much on recreating anything. ❤️

    Question: Why could be causing my tissue paper to be cloudy, or less transparent, after it dries? I use Liquitex Satin Glazing medium as my adhesive.

    • @jackieschomburgart
      @jackieschomburgart  6 місяців тому +1

      I find that it depends a lot on what color I’m adding the tissue collage to. If I apply it to a dark/black area, it doesn’t disappear - looks more like a white veil. I have the best luck adding tissue to lighter colors and white - then the tissue fades into the background and isn’t so obvious. ❤️
