I watched this video 10 hours after you posted it. The 'views are 34,601. Comments 1,509. You obviously hit a nerve mate. I enjoy watching your content. I wonder if that ridiculous bowl of spaghetti euphemistically called the algorithm will ever be properly fixed to the satisfaction of both viewers and creators. The war they have recently been waging against ad-blockers has been especially crazy as every time they play with the blocker of the blocker, they nearly always break something else. I do not think even the best programmers they have really understand why the whole enchilada is so, so brittle.

You’re an educator, and it shows in your show, which is always informative. You have a naturally endearing personality. I’m a nerd, and so are you. Your enthusiasm for the material rubs off in a not irritating way. I tend to prefer shorter videos. Sitting through another half-hour FSD test cruise has become tedious. Yeah, what the guy above says. I really liked your earlier videos and when you really got into Tesla I continued to watch and thought it was good, but I really missed your older ones. I'd love more interviews and your particular approach to AI and robots and tech in general satisfies me in way a lot of other channels don't. So kick back, relax, and do what you damn well feel like! You're cool, you're interesting, and I'll be watching.

There are only 3 Tesla channels I get real value from and yours is one of those. The rest are just echos with little original thought or balance in their viewpoints. Your instinct on returning to things that drive your passion does all of us the best service. - Thanks!
The point is that most of the Tesla channels are from guy who bought a new Tesla and wants to show it off to his friends. No value add. This channel is different. I feel like I’m auditing a college level class for free sometimes. And I appreciate all that you do. 👍
Agree! Follow your passions. It'll be more interesting all round. I'm also interested in your other ventures. Your work as a prof. Or the company you run. One thing I've become interested in through Tesla is entrepreneurship and tech. My interest in Tesla specifically has largely waned and I'm less bothered with the majority of Tesla-centric channels which are largely echo chambers. I'll stay subscribed and will keep an eye out for your videos.
I have been watching your channel for 5 years and liked every video. Of late, I have not been seeing your videos in my feed although I am still subscribed. I most enjoyed the videos where you broke down and explained complicated stuff. I am an engineer myself but it was lovely to have it all explained in a simple way. I think you made the right decision. Don't try to please YT, just make educational videos and people will come. Thank you for all you are doing.

I have been down on Musk and Tesla for a while now (even though I drive a Y). So I am one of those people that has not been watching your Tesla content. I am here for much more diverse science and technology - bring it on!
I still hold Tesla but a lot of the magic has worn off, some of my friends really hate Elon and won’t come near the stock or cars. What Elon expresses personally, really goes in one ear and out the other for me, I still support the mission, but I can’t help believe the stock would be doing a lot better if not for the high profile and personal expressions- but that’s Elon. I have made some good money in product that Elon and Tesla supports - NVDA.
I pay UA-cam to avoid Ads. Tubers work products into their videos - if they're entertaining or informative I like that. I'm aware of all the free content I consume. So every video I watch, I give a thumbs up and leave a comment. I'm banned from Facebook. As a premium X member, I may share a video with X. At 78 on fixed income money is tight but time has value. Your wife is right - do YOUR "thing" not UA-cam's. A loyal sub.
YT is a trap long-term i.e., fun becomes a job. Then inexplicably views go bad. The summer has been very busy for most of us, typically the computer goes quiet. Thanks for your efforts.
As an educator (recently retired after 37 years) I admire your dedication to your craft and your energy in keeping so many irons in the fire at once. I don't know how you manage your time with all that is involved with keeping up your day job. I have enjoyed your down-to-earth approach and your expertise in a variety of subjects. Keep up the good work, but don't burn yourself out.
Somewhat ironic that we have spent a lot of time and energy worrying about how the algorithm effects viewers, but little on how it effects content creators. I hope you keep creating, but not at the expense of your quality of life.
My three cents: To hell with trying to feed the YT algorithm. Always create content that makes YOU happy. Especially if you don't rely on the income to survive. Keep up the good work!

The audience needs to realize the effort it takes to create a video and then be disappointed because the Algorithm doesn't show it to your subscribers.
You have to work on what you enjoy if you want to stay strong and focused. Do what you enjoy. We're with you as we appreciate your expertise and informed and intelligent opinion. I'm staying with you, whether YT pushes you or not. I watch YT every day instead of TV and I'll regularly search for you. I always click like if I watch a vid as I know a lot of work goes into them. I'll also try to comment on them all, too. Your robotics and AI focus are best and your collaborations with Scott are must-watch content. Do whatever you need to to stay happy and we'll be happy knowing that. We appreciate you.
I've watched for at least 4 years. I'm so surprised you are not in the millions of views. It goes to show I haven't watched that statistic. You are one of my favorites. Sometimes a little to technical for me, but I still watch them.
The best youtubers I follow are the ones who ignore the algorithm and make videos on topics they love. Usually I peruse my list of channels I subscribe to and go in and look for videos I haven't seen yet that seem interesting.
Love it. We’re in a lull sort of period, and it seems certain channels will pump out videos with repetitive, circuitous content and milking any small update for 40 minute to Hour long conversations rampant with speculation. Super glad you’re making videos about things you want to talk about!!
I would appreciate your content either as your UA-cam videos or as guest appearances on other UA-cam videos the way Dr. Scott Walter does (without having his own channel). I can't imagine the work in just doing a UA-cam channel let alone being a professor, a principal in a startup and your own UA-cam channel! Take care of yourself!
Howdy Doctor! Actually, this is the first video of yours that I have seen, so it's nice to get that quick history. I dig your plight, so I subscribed. Although, I must not use UA-cam "right", because I can't see where an algorithm would have anything to do with me watching a video. I have folks I'm subscribed to, and sometimes those folks recommend other folks who I end up subscribing to, and so on. When I open UA-cam (which I do daily) I go down my list of subscriptions and there is a dot if that channel has a new video. I look at the details of those new videos and decide if I want to watch them.
You have done great building the channel to 81k subs. I can see how being a Creator can become all consuming, and I feel for you guys. TBH, my Tesla viewing has dropped way off because it all seems to be the same "we're almost there". I think part of it is that there is some Tesla fatigue. AI is really in the spotlight now. Your channel is a lot to be proud of. I hope you your change in mindset brings back the joy.
My Tesla viewing has dropped off too. Much of that is because EVs are no longer on the frontier of technology with few people knowing much about them. FSD will enter the mainstream. EVs are in no danger of disappearing. Neither is the new kid on the block, AI. Really getting a big benefit from AI takes a lot of work. Receiving a benefit from that work takes so little that the recipient doesn't need to know AI was even present. Smartphones and smart speakers are gateway drugs to the AI experience. Both have demonstrated how the public makes a surface use of complicated systems. AI has that characteristic on steroids. How does that relate to monetizing UA-cam videos? Difficult information will seldom keep the attention of the public. Dr. Know-it-all is an excellent teacher who suffers from the difficulty of his subject. Interest in the Tesla brand also suffers from Elon Musk's failing to keep his eye on the prize. Elon is killing his own story. He is also hurting those who tell that story. Elon remains focused on robotics with Optimus and AI with Grok. Both are extremely important. Both are part of a civilization-shaking story that is bigger than themselves and far bigger than the scale of a short video or Facebook post. Going deep into that story cannot have a mass market appeal. The public isn't ready. Channels that teach the teachers need to go deeper. When they do so, they lose mass appeal but critically spread knowledge.

For those who manage to do it I wouldn't call it foolish. You just need to always be ready for an early exit, and you have to constantly be pushing back against burnout. I'm sure if it wasn't fulfilling to some degree people wouldn't continue with it for long.
I think with the decline in interest in Tesla it is appropriate to reset the direction of the channel. Focusing on making content on subjects that interest you is a great way to grow the channel even more.
This, I am an early adaptor with the third electric vehicle being a Tesla. I've struggled with range, but now the car drives further than I can sit still, and the charging (in Norway) is built out enough to facilitate all my needs. So perhaps it's electric vehicle fatigue from an early adaptor?

I suspect that ALL Tesla related content has suffered due to Elon's Tweets getting too political. I used to view him as the one guy that gave us an optimistic view of the future, but now, not so much. I guarintee that Tesla sales have suffered from the same reason.
I used to be an Elon admirer. I was excitedly planning to purchase a model Y and was promoting Tesla Ys and 3s to my family and friends. No more!!! I now see Elon as a thin skinned attention seeking spoiled brat. His politics has become very extreme. Supporting a coal and fossil fuel advocate like Trump is beyond hypocritical.

I didn't realize that commenting helped. That is good to know. I am an advanced IT technical individual. However, I haven't found good info where I could learn how LLMs or LMMs actually work from the ground up. I realize the training is mostly matrices multiplication. But it has to be more than that and the methods like back propagation, etc that makes it work. Any enlightenment here would be appreciated.

Hi Doc. Recently had an AKA or above knee amputation. I noticed others getting the same treatment at a medical research hospital in South Texas. One problem seems to be the acquiring of an HAI or hospital acquired infection after a total knee replacement. How do you get Morning Joe to look into this? There are post operation rehab facilities making buckets of Medicare money by running recovery facilities like jails.

Doc, keep up the good work. I used to watch a lot of Tesla content from countless others, like SMR, Dylan, Farzad and Jordan Giesige. I mosty do not watch them anymore because their content has been already said many times. The only one which I regularly watch and support on Patreon is Jordan, the depth of his videos is really high, a lot of work behind that. So for me as a scientist, depth and facts matter a lot. Too much talking and repetitive videos means less interest.
Actually about one month ago, your videos stop being displayed in my youtube feed, and the only way to watch them was through direct search. I hope you continue this channel!! 💪

The audience needs to realize the effort it takes to create a video and then be disappointed because the Algorithm doesn't show it to your subscribers.

The best youtubers I follow are the ones who ignore the algorithm and make videos on topics they love.
Usually I peruse my list of channels I subscribe to and go in and look for videos I haven't seen yet that seem interesting.
Love it. We’re in a lull sort of period, and it seems certain channels will pump out videos with repetitive, circuitous content and milking any small update for 40 minute to Hour long conversations rampant with speculation.

I would appreciate your content either as your UA-cam videos or as guest appearances on other UA-cam videos the way Dr. Scott Walter does (without having his own channel). I can't imagine the work in just doing a UA-cam channel let alone being a professor, a principal in a startup and your own UA-cam channel! Take care of yourself!
Howdy Doctor! Actually, this is the first video of yours that I have seen, so it's nice to get that quick history. I dig your plight, so I subscribed. Although, I must not use UA-cam "right", because I can't see where an algorithm would have anything to do with me watching a video. I have folks I'm subscribed to, and sometimes those folks recommend other folks who I end up subscribing to, and so on. When I open UA-cam (which I do daily) I go down my list of subscriptions and there is a dot if that channel has a new video. I look at the details of those new videos and decide if I want to watch them.
I have absolutely no issues with this. Best of luck, I'll be watching. 😉

You have done great building the channel to 81k subs. I can see how being a Creator can become all consuming, and I feel for you guys. TBH, my Tesla viewing has dropped way off because it all seems to be the same "we're almost there". I think part of it is that there is some Tesla fatigue. AI is really in the spotlight now. Your channel is a lot to be proud of. I hope you your change in mindset brings back the joy.
My Tesla viewing has dropped off too. Much of that is because EVs are no longer on the frontier of technology with few people knowing much about them. FSD will enter the mainstream. EVs are in no danger of disappearing. Neither is the new kid on the block, AI.
Really getting a big benefit from AI takes a lot of work. Receiving a benefit from that work takes so little that the recipient doesn't need to know AI was even present. Smartphones and smart speakers are gateway drugs to the AI experience. Both have demonstrated how the public makes a surface use of complicated systems. AI has that characteristic on steroids.
How does that relate to monetizing UA-cam videos? Difficult information will seldom keep the attention of the public. Dr. Know-it-all is an excellent teacher who suffers from the difficulty of his subject. Interest in the Tesla brand also suffers from Elon Musk's failing to keep his eye on the prize. Elon is killing his own story. He is also hurting those who tell that story.
Elon remains focused on robotics with Optimus and AI with Grok. Both are extremely important. Both are part of a civilization-shaking story that is bigger than themselves and far bigger than the scale of a short video or Facebook post. Going deep into that story cannot have a mass market appeal. The public isn't ready.
Channels that teach the teachers need to go deeper. When they do so, they lose mass appeal but critically spread knowledge.

For those who manage to do it I wouldn't call it foolish. You just need to always be ready for an early exit, and you have to constantly be pushing back against burnout. I'm sure if it wasn't fulfilling to some degree people wouldn't continue with it for long.

I think with the decline in interest in Tesla it is appropriate to reset the direction of the channel. Focusing on making content on subjects that interest you is a great way to grow the channel even more.
This, I am an early adaptor with the third electric vehicle being a Tesla.
I've struggled with range, but now the car drives further than I can sit still, and the charging (in Norway) is built out enough to facilitate all my needs.
So perhaps it's electric vehicle fatigue from an early adaptor?

I suspect that ALL Tesla related content has suffered due to Elon's Tweets getting too political. I used to view him as the one guy that gave us an optimistic view of the future, but now, not so much. I guarintee that Tesla sales have suffered from the same reason.

I didn't realize that commenting helped. That is good to know. I am an advanced IT technical individual. However, I haven't found good info where I could learn how LLMs or LMMs actually work from the ground up. I realize the training is mostly matrices multiplication. But it has to be more than that and the methods like back propagation, etc that makes it work. Any enlightenment here would be appreciated.

Hi Doc. Recently had an AKA or above knee amputation. I noticed others getting the same treatment at a medical research hospital in South Texas. One problem seems to be the acquiring of an HAI or hospital acquired infection after a total knee replacement. How do you get Morning Joe to look into this? There are post operation rehab facilities making buckets of Medicare money by running recovery facilities like jails.

Doc, keep up the good work. I used to watch a lot of Tesla content from countless others, like SMR, Dylan, Farzad and Jordan Giesige. I mosty do not watch them anymore because their content has been already said many times. The only one which I regularly watch and support on Patreon is Jordan, the depth of his videos is really high, a lot of work behind that. So for me as a scientist, depth and facts matter a lot. Too much talking and repetitive videos means less interest.
