As a project for the holidays many years ago i had a teacher who had us make orange pomanders to hang up & we made ours using satin ribbons, my mother was so happy she loved the smell 😊 i am 69 yrs old & i still remember making them.
I love how you encourage your children to do anything!! You are always so interested and loving and they learn so much this way!! I’ve seen you do this when they were getting covered in mud and you were laughing right along with them!! ❤️💫🍁🍂🍁💫❤️
Loved watching the kids join in. I have a 65 yr old pomander made by my brother in kindergarten for our mother. For sweet memory reasons it hangs in my closet wrapped in the original netting, and still has the faint smell of cloves. Merry Christmas!
Hi Laura🙌👋 Here in Denmark, we also sometimes tie a Red ribbon around the orange, and put cloves where there is no ribbon, and then hang them from the ceiling or in a window☺️ just if you need more inspiration!
I have a fond childhood memory going to church and making these near Christmas time, it reminds me of my dear mom who passed away when i was 8, after that we stopped doing thing like that sadly, but i think as a mom i am going to bring the traditions back into my life.
What a wonderful day you had. It was so sweet seeing you, your mom, and the kids doing fun things together. I enjoy doing things like that with my kids and grandchildren.
Good morning Laura and family! I can remember 55 years ago or so making these with my Mom. It was so amazing because really we did not have any extra money so for her to buy the cloves and oranges for us to just use for house decor was a very special time. She always made sure Christmas was a joyous time. Thank you for these memories. Hugs from N.C..❤
What a fun time, I never made the pomanders and I watched you make them so many times! But this year, is it! I just bought the cloves and will get oranges and make them! The kids have so much fun, it's such a joyous time for you all! I really hope that the hill will be full of poppies! Have a blessed weekend 🤗🙏🏻❤️
Little fun fact as to how pomanders usually dont get fungal issues or rot out, cloves have the essential clove oil which is antifungal, soooo the decor comes with a natural protector. Happy Holidays ❤
Thank you Laura for all that you do, I’ve watched since the beginning and have learned so much. Could you use that back hill for the kids to slide down this winter? It looks perfect for it…
Oh, I can’t wait to see those poppies! How fun! I really love seeing your traditions with the kids. I’m always looking for special things to do with my granddaughter.
Love passing traditions down in the family, and your kids will too one day. Treasured memories! So fun that Samantha can participate more this year. You are a great mama, Laura!! Can't wait to see the excitement when the kids see their poppies in the hillside.
We have our 6year old grandson this whole Thanksgiving weekend. I have the whole cloves,so just the oranges. Can't wait to begin this tradition with him today! Thanks so very much
I am now 39, I remember very clearly making these in gr. 4 I would have been 9. I remember finishing mine before the entire class so the teacher said I could make another one and give it to someone. I remember running it over to the school( our classroom was a separate portable out building). I was so proud of my work AND they smelled so good! 🍊
Russell looks so handsome today. 🍁🐈 🍁 I bet Russell would like to watch the whole planting project. Russell needs a personal stool to watch from. 🍁🐈🍁 I remember fondly decorating oranges with my mother at Christmas time. 🎄🍊🎄🍊🎄
You constantly spark my creativity! (trust me it needs some sparkin' these days ; ) I purchased a bag of clementines at the store which are only good to throw at squirrels! I was lamenting what to do with them and now I know! Loved Benjamin's sputnik (at 19:41)! Raising boys is a true treat. Samantha, so bright and chatty sitting on Grandma's knee. You are so kind to share so much of your life along with you gardening know how. I am so grateful for the bits of joy and whimsy you touch my days with. Such a positive light in trying times. Thank you.
Aww the smells of Christmas. Takes me back to my childhood. The cedar tree,an a box of apples an oranges, along wirh nuts, raisins, and the Christmas candies you could only find at Christmas time. That's what made it so special.
Our brownie leader always had us make these. I really loved them. My Mother kept them in the kitchen for the beautiful holiday scent! Thanks for reminding me of that !!❤
I loved Benjamin's "toothpick pomander"!! I plan to get my boys doing pomanders with me this weekend- Thank you for the idea! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing poppy's poppin' up everywhere!
Fun time for all. We also took styrofome balls and used pins and old jewelry, sequins, etc. I still have 3 of them (over 50 yrs old). Let Christmas fun begin.
love how you are carrying on traditions, and to see 3 generations there making the pomanders is just the best... what a great setup you have for seed starting and doing things like that in your winter, and i can't wait to see your field of poppies.. great idea!! .. hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving - now let the Christmas season start in full force!! love it! 🥰❤thanks for the video!! 🥰❤
When starting seeds indoor I put my seed starting mix in a big stainless steel bowl & pour boiling water over it, just enough to moisten soil. Then cover it with foil & let it cool, which seems to help kill off any eggs or larva that might be in the soil. But then water with the Gnatrol as another preventative . It would be great if you could sell small packets of that in your store as it’s hard to find it in the small er portions for people who can’t afford the big containers.
I already threw my poppy seeds out on a narrow area along the driveway. The flowers ill be medium to darker pink. I have orange poppy flowers scattered at the edge of my my woodland area.
With a small drill, cloves and artificial oranges I made these for an arrangement that will last forever. I did make some real ones but totally love the artificial too. Such fun! LOVE your videos!
🙏 Please add gnatrol to your store!! 😊 I wrote a while back asking if they could add it to the to-do list and one of your lovely people replied that they’d try. Like you said the last time you used it, the only thing out there is a huge bucket, so hoping it would be worth it for you to sell it in small packets. Assuming it’s not too much of a pain to do, or that it requires a lot of permissions or something. THANKS for considering it, and hope you all had a wonderful holiday!
I loved the project you had its always doing things together with family, I am going to make some of the oranges that would smell so nice in kitchen or anywhere. thanks for sharing
I was so happy to see that we had a video this morning. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Question. Would you and Aaron be interested in repackaging and selling the gnatroll in smaller quantities so people could afford to purchase it. Thank you for all the wonderful videos and for sharing your family with us.
Sounds like you planted winter wheat before. The picture on this packet looks like they have have purple heads. I thought it was lavender until you said it was wheat. Should be amazing!
Laura, have you ever dropped a tray of freshly planted seeds? I get jittery watching you carrying them on one hand.🤣🤣Bet you'd make a good waitress with those skills. Lovely video, as always. I think I'm going to try orange pomanders with my granddaughters this year after seeing Samantha and Benjamin having so much fun.
To change up your clove orange pomander arrangement after the holidays, you could simply add Statice to the arrangement. Blue would pop with Orange as they are opposite on the color wheel.💙🧡💗🧡💜Looking forward to the Pink Poppies populating your slope next Spring. Hope you have a good germination rate!
Good morning, Laura and family. Are you still stuffed from Thanksgiving? Love the idea of the poppy's on the hillside. Also love your neighborhood cows!
I'm getting ready to start a bunch of lavender seeds. I want them to be nice and bushy when spring comes to plant them. Having foot surgery in one week and I'll need things to do for a week so seed starting it is
I have always mixed one part hydrogen peroxide and four parts water in my mister for the initial watering of seed trays. Luckily I have never had damping off or gnats. Hope this helps.
Good morning, Laura ☕️ I hope y’all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Seed starting already 🙌🏻 I bet the Hartley smells amazing! Wiring them in sounds like a great idea, too! Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈🐈
Love your videos! Quick question- will you be carrying Gnatros in your store in smaller quantities than the huge bucket? I think a bunch of us would order that! You could even make a gnat fighting kit with gnatros and sticky traps-what a great gift that would make😁
When I was a kid I thought poppies were so beautiful. One year I threw seeds from some all over my mom’s garden. The next year they were everywhere. This caused the police to pay us a visit suspecting opium production (no joke) and told me I had to pull them all up and have my parents burn them. I was about 8 and had some very choice words for that police officer. I’ve been cautious about growing poppies ever since.
As a project for the holidays many years ago i had a teacher who had us make orange pomanders to hang up & we made ours using satin ribbons, my mother was so happy she loved the smell 😊 i am 69 yrs old & i still remember making them.
Thank you for sharing such lovely memories with us! Keep cherishing them!
68-years old and made these orange & clove pomanders for my mom, too! Sweet memories & worth passing on to next generations!
Poppy hill - a garden risk worth taking! I love watching the kids enjoy helping you.
I also threw bulbs over "our hill" into the leaves etc. how fun to see the blooms the next spring.
I love how you encourage your children to do anything!! You are always so interested and loving and they learn so much this way!! I’ve seen you do this when they were getting covered in mud and you were laughing right along with them!! ❤️💫🍁🍂🍁💫❤️
They're little for such a short time, it's great to let them be kids.
That’s how I’ve always made them in the U.K. 🍊🎄
That's a great idea, Samantha is grandma girl😍😍
I have a fond childhood memory going to church and making these near Christmas time, it reminds me of my dear mom who passed away when i was 8, after that we stopped doing thing like that sadly, but i think as a mom i am going to bring the traditions back into my life.
Beautiful, heartwarming video. I loved Russell supervising in the greenhouse.
What a wonderful day you had. It was so sweet seeing you, your mom, and the kids doing fun things together. I enjoy doing things like that with my kids and grandchildren.
How fun, love it when the kids get involved. Like you said, building their memories & they can pass them on to their children. Such fun.

New Gardner in Ohio: I absolutely love the crafts that include the kids. They will certainly remember these times spent with family.
What a wonderful thing to do with the kids. I had forgotten all about making these as a child. So much fun to see what the kids came up with.
What a fun project to include the kids. Making memories is a gift that keeps on giving🥰
Fun, fun, fun!! I remember doing that with my mom. Oranges now on the grocery list!! Thanks for sharing!!
The smell of oranges is Christmas for me. I've never done these, but I think I will give it a try this year. 😊🎄
Little fun fact as to how pomanders usually dont get fungal issues or rot out, cloves have the essential clove oil which is antifungal, soooo the decor comes with a natural protector. Happy Holidays ❤
Thank you for the interesting fun fact! 💕 💕 💕
@lynlalalala 🥰👍🏼
Those pink poppies are going to be gorgeous 🩷 I need to go to the store now and get some oranges and cloves 🧡
Laura, thank you. This is perfect timing! The grands are coming over for crafts today, and these will be perfect to add to our list ❤️
Hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving 🦃!!
Good morning. I love seeing the kids and your mom doing projects! Samantha's sweet expression on her face as she was getting right into making these!😍

Always fun to see Benjamin and Samantha making ornaments with you and grandma!!😊
When I was a kid we covered the whole orange with cloves. Smelled really good🌼
Had so much fun with the grand kids making the Pomanders. Thanks for the idea!
Good morning from Delaware Garden Answer friends.
Love this video with your mom and kids. Making the orange pomanders is a great Christmas memory.
You’re making so many wonderful memories for the kids.
I enjoy watching everything you do. And the kids, and your Mom...all wonderful!
What a fun video. It's so fun watching you, your mom as and the children.
I loved Benjamin's "toothpick pomander"!! I plan to get my boys doing pomanders with me this weekend- Thank you for the idea! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing poppy's poppin' up everywhere!
Good morning from Minnesota. It is good stratification weather here.
Great video!

I did this with my granddaughter - we did so many fun things together! I have oranges and cloves and plan on making these this weekend❤❤❤
Good Morning! 🎅 I can't believe it is seed starting time! What great activity for family time! Making memories! 😍🍊🌲🌿
Wish I had room for getting seeds started.
I love the smell of citrus! I gotta try these! ❤
You could also sprinkle the aquilegia seeds on the hill
🍊Brings back memories of doing this with my mother , great video ! 🍊🍊🍊
Oh Samantha Grace + your Mom are so fun to watch. Her little mini :)

I work for the company that makes Gnatrol. Cool!!

I already threw my poppy seeds out on a narrow area along the driveway. The flowers ill be medium to darker pink. I have orange poppy flowers scattered at the edge of my my woodland area.
I have done this with apples. I completely covered the apple and then sat it near my violets. It is supposed to help the violets keep blooming.
With a small drill, cloves and artificial oranges I made these for an arrangement that will last forever. I did make some real ones but totally love the artificial too. Such fun! LOVE your videos!
So pretty! The pomanders of medieval times were also carried around to cover body odor as people did not bathe frequently.
Great ideas and projects ❤
Oh I was totally expecting no video today. yay!! ❤❤❤
Oooooooh, seed starting 😍🌱🌱🌱 So exciting!
Good luck with the poppies! Look forward to seeing them bloom…

i think i will go to store after work and but things to make these with my son :)
I love your videos, they make me smile. Thank you.💗

Hope you had lovely Thanksgiving! Fun to see you!😊

That was so fun! I love seeing your geraniums tucked in the corners too. May God bless you and yours!

I'm constantly opening the fridge to smell the fruit inside. 😂.
I’ve always loved making orange pomanders at Christmas time with family. Has anyone ever tried lemons? I wonder if that would be as pleasing?
I would like to know as well! I have a lemon tree that’s loaded! 🍋🍋🍋(Arizona)
LOVE IT!
LOVE, VIC🌻💖🌻
Where is your adult beverage? Something warm to help you and your mom through your project 😉
Always ready to plant! Pomanders look like fun.
Just love you guys and girls🪴🌸🩵🩷❣️
I still think that hill would be beautiful terraced. With some big old chunky steps meandering down and around in-between the terraced sections.
Afternoon Everyone 🥰
Good morning!🌻🐝
Happy Thanksgiving, GA fam! ❤❤❤
What a fun project! I need to try this!
Good morning, Laura ☕️ I hope y’all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Seed starting already 🙌🏻 I bet the Hartley smells amazing! Wiring them in sounds like a great idea, too! Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈🐈
What a nice surprise. I thought you were taking a long weekend for Thanksgiving.
Those columbine seeds, I would love to know where that person who gave those seeds to laura, where she got the seed. They are gorgeous!
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day 🥰🎄
Good morning! Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday. Love the pomanders you made. I think I will try that with my grands soon.

I really like the Gnatrol, but it’s difficult to find in small quantities (1-4 oz). Would your shop ever consider selling?
Mosquito Bits
30 oz. Granular Biological Mosquito Control for $15 should do the same thing would it not?
Amazing Laura...❤❤❤❤❤❤
Pomanders have been made for centuries. Hang it in your closet, it dries and wards off bugs (don’t quote me on that last bit)
What’s that beautiful paint color in the Studio?
