    Good Video! I think you should do a video showing your technique on how you ran your wires, as that is something that i'd (plus many others) be interested in watching/learning, as that has so many different applications that just audio. Subscribed!

    Great set up. Where is the cat 5 wire going from the keypads? Also, are speaker wires going directly to the speakers from the amplifier?

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  4 роки тому +1

      Yes speaker wire goes from the speakers directly to the amp, also same with the keypads. So everything "home runs" back to the amplifier. And the amplifier has the circuitry necessary to know what zones it needs to control based on the keypads being clicked.

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  4 роки тому +1

      You don't have to do any calculating this amplifier says that it outputs 25 watts @ 8 ohms so just use standard 8 ohm ceiling speakers. Trust me, it is plenty of power, despite what you think!!

  • @orapex
    @orapex 6 років тому

    Hi, Couple of questions please:
    1- Are the Daytona Audio ceiling speakers need a housing to hold them up in ceiling or they can be fixed to the ceiling sheetrack?
    2- Do I need to use the Cat5e Raiser or Plantun wire?
    3- What cable I should use the TV HDMI cable? can the RG6 Coaxial cable be used as HDMI?
    Thanks a lot for your effort and sharing
    AJ

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  6 років тому

      The speakers do not need an additional housing, they have a screw type clamp that fixes right on the sheetrock. It depends on where you live and your regulations, but in the USA for residential housing you do not need plenum. standard riser cable works but you need to check your own regulations. RG6 cannot be used as HDMI, you will need RCA cable for audio.

    • @orapex
      @orapex 6 років тому

      Thanks for your quick kind reply, what I need to use the HDMI cable for is to connect my IPTV box (Internet Streaming TV Service) which will be kept in my networking closet with my TV, so is the RCA cable can do the job?

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  6 років тому +1

      I dont know what connections your IPTV box has, but it probably has an audio out jack. Maybe it is RCA cables, maybe it is something else. But you will ultimately need to get it into an RCA cable.

    • @kingrpriddick
      @kingrpriddick 6 років тому +1

      Look up the definition of a plenum, if you have a whole attic return system it is against US federal code to use riser cable in your attic, because plenum cable has a more fire retardant sheath. Some cities and states have code that requires all plenum cable no matter the location or use of the cable (though sometimes this is only for commercial). I've heard stories of inspectors just requiring plenum cable without the code requiring it and that's a shame really.
      3 easy answers: 1) just use plenum cable 2) go ask your local electrical inspector 3) don't care and do what you want.

    Hi, very thorough and informative videos. I watched your whole amp and pre-wired journey. I want to set up something similar and want to ask if you know if it's possible to multipurpose 5 ceiling speakers that are already wired to a 5.1 surround sound receiver and use them through zone 1 on an amp through the receiver while watching TV, but also use them independently through a different zone in which they are directly wired to the amp on a different zone. I guess I would do to sets of wiring, one from speaker to receiver and the other one from the speaker to the amp. Can that be done? Is there a better way? • @TheKMZ1

      I would be skeptical that 350 watts is the RMS value. That sounds more like a max value, which you should never look at. But i would recommend getting a speaker as close to 25 watts RMS as you can. I probably would not go above 50 but i try to match things up perfectly. • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  5 років тому +1

      I do not have instagram but i have a website. But anyway, this system is not designed or meant to take the place of a 5.1 surround sound. It's purpose is whole home audio, 2 speakers (L and R) per zone, although you can do a Mono mode with only 1 speaker in that zone but the majority of it's purpose is 2 speakers per zone. You could do 4 speakers in a zone with some wiring in series/parallel but again i'm speaking to what it was designed for 95% of it's installs. My recommendation would be if you want 5.1 then do a separate thing for that, but if you are ok having TV /movies play through in ceiling speakers, maybe for party's or something then do that as a source, but i would not use this as a surround replacement.

      Yes you could use the preouts and a seperate Amp (more available power) or a "passive speaker selector" (less available power) but both solutions would mean sharing a keypad for both locations, but it seems you understand that caveat already. You could then use the app to control whichever location doesn't have a keypad.

    I like your set up, i'm thinking about doing something similar. One question, in the main room, i want to run a home theater set of speakers and I was thinking using the Monoprice controller that you have and feed Zone 1/ Source 1/Music into my home theatre receiver where it will route the sound to all 5.1 speakers in the main room. The other rooms, those stereo speakers can just connect directly to this controller. Does this Monoprice have the line out? Would that work? Does the keypad control the line out volume as well? Thanks

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  3 роки тому +1

      Check out my new videos on my channel, I think you'll really like them. There is a new version of this amp out as well and I've got a discount code. But to answer your question, yes these about have pre amp out connections using RCA cables. What that will do is pass the volume and source/eq data into an external amp and yes the keypads still control the volume through that amp. Check out the video on my channel about pre amp out!

      Check to make sure you have set the keypad addresses correctly. Those are the dip switches ( on on off) switches on the back of the keypad. There are 7 sockets on the rear, because you can connect an ethernet cable from that 7th socket, into another keypad hub, and add more keypads. So that is how you chain another keypad block. Thanks for the video -- this may be the answer to replacing my 12 year old whole home 12 zone Elan System. One thought. I use the long range Audio Engine B1 bluetooth receiver vs the chromecast audio receiver you show. I like to have my music voice controlled via alexa (amazon music, pandora, iphone music in itunes library, etc.) and I can play all this by telling Alexa to connect to bluetooth (then alexa connects to audio engine B1), then I can request specific song by name, or artist or station type (from either Amazon or Pandora). I can thumbs up or down songs, skip songs, raise or lower volume, switch stations, etc. all by voice. You can also use NAS drives and Plex and have Alexa control your hard drive music this way as well.

    Question 1.- can you provide or add in the description the rca wall plate you used for the audio sources?
    Question 2.- Can you provide or add in the description the RCA cables you used for this install?
    Question 3.-Which speaker cable would you suggest to buy that is code for new construction?
    Question 4.- did you use cat 5, cat 6 or cat7 Ethernet cable?
    I'm looking forward to see which plans you have for your smart home.

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  6 років тому +7

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
      1) I used keystone wall plates from Monoprice, and bought all of the keystone jacks from monoprice (i've added links to the description)
      2) An RCA cable is a really simple cable. To make your own RCA cable you would use RG6 cable. RG6 cable is the same type of cable you would use to run cable tv in your house, except with a different end on it. (i've added a link to the RG6 cable that i use)
      3) If you are doing construction in a residential building and not commercial, i believe it just needs to be CL2 rated. Most speaker cable you would buy is already ok to run in houses. I would suggest you use 14 guage speaker wire, i used 12 guage and it was a little over kill since i wasnt doing that long of runs. If you are doing very long runs, then i would say use 12 guage. (i've added a link to the speaker wire i used)
      4) I used cat 5e cable for my install because i ran out of cat 6. I wired my parents entire house with cat 6 though, so you can use either. I like cat 6, because it has the extra plastic insert in the cable, which keeps it stiffer when running, which is helpful. (link to that cable is also in the description now!)

    3:01 the best DAC for your buck
    Edit: have you tried the optical input? You can get an optical mini cable to hook up to the Chromecast Audio and even stream at 98k pcm...if the app you're using allows for it

    • @victorshane4134
      @victorshane4134 5 років тому

      The quality will be 120% better if he change the cable. Let me explain - On amps, RCA inputs not digital. Those are analog inputs which means the signal is pre processed which means the chromecast converted digital signal to analog. Over optical there's no dac used. What comes in, that's go out without any conversion. If your amp or avr is equipped with spdif, use optical connection in between. Your amp or avr has a better dac built in :)
