    Looks and sounds good. Future inspiration for my home. Only thing I would have done differently is not done the extension cord through the cabinets but installed another outlet inside of the cabinet. Other than that GREAT JOB!

    Thanks for the video -- this may be the answer to replacing my 12 year old whole home 12 zone Elan System. One thought. I use the long range Audio Engine B1 bluetooth receiver vs the chromecast audio receiver you show. I like to have my music voice controlled via alexa (amazon music, pandora, iphone music in itunes library, etc.) and I can play all this by telling Alexa to connect to bluetooth (then alexa connects to audio engine B1), then I can request specific song by name, or artist or station type (from either Amazon or Pandora). I can thumbs up or down songs, skip songs, raise or lower volume, switch stations, etc. all by voice. You can also use NAS drives and Plex and have Alexa control your hard drive music this way as well.

    Good Video! I think you should do a video showing your technique on how you ran your wires, as that is something that i'd (plus many others) be interested in watching/learning, as that has so many different applications that just audio. Subscribed!

    I did a very similar install except the placement of my unit. I used OSD MAX12 for mine and I have 22 speakers. 4-5 speakers per zone for 5 Zones then outside zone is 2 6" rock speakers. I used Dayton audio in-wall speaker expanders so i could power more speakers per zone. I control the unit with both wall keypads and Android app.

      I would think this would be doable. Just hook 2 inputs to one speaker, assuming they are both analog connections with the red and black wires. Then do the same for the other speakers within the 5.1 setup.

    3:01 the best DAC for your buck
    Edit: have you tried the optical input? You can get an optical mini cable to hook up to the Chromecast Audio and even stream at 98k pcm...if the app you're using allows for it

    • @victorshane4134
      @victorshane4134 6 років тому

      The quality will be 120% better if he change the cable. Let me explain - On amps, RCA inputs not digital. Those are analog inputs which means the signal is pre processed which means the chromecast converted digital signal to analog. Over optical there's no dac used. What comes in, that's go out without any conversion. If your amp or avr is equipped with spdif, use optical connection in between. Your amp or avr has a better dac built in :)

    6 Month Update: I have been installed now for 6 months. I didn't use the wall controls because your app is AMAZING. I have 2 Google Audios for input sources and a TV source.
    If anyone is interested in a GREAT sounding speaker. I would recommend the Theatre Solutions. I have 6 of them in 3 zones. A Polka in the master bath and 2 outside zones with Bose and Polk. Had I done the Polk first I would have only Polk outside. But I love my current setup. Thanks for the inspiration and direction @TheKMZ1

    Prepping to do this in my house and this is the best demo I've seen. A few questions if I may:
    1. Each speaker runs back to your amp?
    2. What was the rg6 wire for?
    3. Does the cat 6 go from the room switch to the amp?
    4. Are those 6" speakers? Would you recommend 6" or 8"?

    you just earn a new subscriber, great info in this video, well explained, just what I was looking for :).
    Question 1.- can you provide or add in the description the rca wall plate you used for the audio sources?
    Question 2.- Can you provide or add in the description the RCA cables you used for this install?
    Question 3.-Which speaker cable would you suggest to buy that is code for new construction?
    Question 4.- did you use cat 5, cat 6 or cat7 Ethernet cable?
    I'm looking forward to see which plans you have for your smart home.

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  6 років тому +7

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
      1) I used keystone wall plates from Monoprice, and bought all of the keystone jacks from monoprice (i've added links to the description)
      2) An RCA cable is a really simple cable. To make your own RCA cable you would use RG6 cable. RG6 cable is the same type of cable you would use to run cable tv in your house, except with a different end on it. (i've added a link to the RG6 cable that i use)
      3) If you are doing construction in a residential building and not commercial, i believe it just needs to be CL2 rated. Most speaker cable you would buy is already ok to run in houses. I would suggest you use 14 guage speaker wire, i used 12 guage and it was a little over kill since i wasnt doing that long of runs. If you are doing very long runs, then i would say use 12 guage. (i've added a link to the speaker wire i used)
      4) I used cat 5e cable for my install because i ran out of cat 6. I wired my parents entire house with cat 6 though, so you can use either. I like cat 6, because it has the extra plastic insert in the cable, which keeps it stiffer when running, which is helpful. (link to that cable is also in the description now!)

    I think it is bad to keep the amplifier in a closed area like that cabinet or cupboard which will make the amplifier to heat up easily in a long run... If necessary, add up a fan or let the amplifier to breathe (ventilation system is important).
    Only if that amplifier is smart enough or have any protection or perhaps can prevent heating, it depends on you. Just a suggestion 😊

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  6 років тому +1

      I know, other people have commented that as well. These units are fanless, so they don't generate a lot of heat, and they don't generate a lot of dust. I have monitored it before and it doesn't get hot enough to where i am concerned with it. I think my raspberry pi generates more heat than this thing

    1. Those green connectors on the back of the amp. You refer to those as keystones jacks. Those are actually called Euroblocks.
    2. The speaker in the bathroom above the shower. You might have a problem with that later with steam and condensation. They make speakers with IP ratings specifically for bathrooms and showers.
    3. The amp needs ventilation. Put some grills/louvers on the front of the doors. Possibly even a 12VDC fan to circulate the air.

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  5 років тому

      Did you look up these speakers? They are rated for moisture so they will not have a problem. Also, this amp does not have any internal fans, it stays cool, I know typically you shouldn't put it enclosed but this was the only place I could put it. My raspberry pi is hotter than this

    • @velocityacoustics
      @velocityacoustics 5 років тому

      @@TheKMZ1 Even with the amplifier being passively cooled, it still generates heat. Especially with it being located above a refrigerator that creates heat. Probably not a good idea having it plugged into an extension cord as well. I'm sure it states that in your owners manual.

    Just to make sure I’m understanding correctly for how your TV is hooked up can you confirm this setup for how I want to install mine.
    Coax from wall to cable box.
    HDMI from cable box to tv.
    Optical cable from tv to my sound bar.
    RCA from cable box to Monoprice receiver.
    Monoprice receiver to ceiling speakers via speaker wire.
    This setup should give me sound from my TV (from HDMI connection), from my soundbar (from the optical connection), or from the ceiling speakers (from the rca connection to Monoprice), correct? Obviously I’m not going to have all 3 going at once as there might be some delay between the 3. I just don’t want to have the ceiling speakers be my only form of TV audio out. I like my sound bar and would use that most of the time and the Monoprice would only be used for broadcasting the sound outside from the tv when needed for entertaining and sports. I look forward to your reply and hopefully I got this setup correct.

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  5 років тому

      Yes that should all work as long as your cable box has the audio out like you described. In my video my cable box did have the audio out, so that's how i was able to do it. Also, i would highly doubt there would be any lag even if running all 3 at once. Also, a lot of TV's have audio out as well, so sometimes you could piggy back off of that if needed! Either way i believe you've got the hang of it

    • @alexgwaltney8330
      @alexgwaltney8330 5 років тому

      Thank you for the quick response! That was the only part I was unsure of. If my cable box doesn’t have the audio out, I will do as you suggested and piggy back it from my TV audio out to the Monoprice to get the ceiling speakers connected. I know sometimes when I have my TV volume on and my sound bar going the sound is distorted a little. Either from the two different sound qualities or just the slightest echo from a lag or something like that. That’s the only reason I said I wouldn’t have all 3 going at once.
      Thank you for the great video! You literally covered everything for someone to be able to do this job themselves! I’ll definitely be subscribing and following your channel for future reference.

    Hi, I'm in the process of installing this system thanks to you and your videos. The question I have is what what was the length of the RCA cables you used for the Tv's and where did you get them from? I have to run multiple RCA cables each being 100 ft long. I am trying to figure out if I am able to run the multiple 100 ft speaker wires for Tv audio output and attach RCA plugs to the ends to make my own RCA cables.
    Looking forward to your response.

      They are custom made, they are made from RG6 coax, and the ends are RCA compression connectors you can get those at home Depot or other stores like it

    Our home is prewired for 5 zones, one of which is our TV room that has 3 speakers behind the TV and 2 speakers on the opposite wall across. Not sure if this is surround or not. We have all the wiring in the basement so I’m guessing we have to install our hub there. There is only one control keypad though (in the basement). Would it be difficult to instal a keypad at each zone? Where do we start? We are not versed in this type of thing and don’t want to spend huge amounts of money.

      Yes speaker wire goes from the speakers directly to the amp, also same with the keypads. So everything "home runs" back to the amplifier. And the amplifier has the circuitry necessary to know what zones it needs to control based on the keypads being clicked.

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  6 років тому

      The speakers do not need an additional housing, they have a screw type clamp that fixes right on the sheetrock. It depends on where you live and your regulations, but in the USA for residential housing you do not need plenum. standard riser cable works but you need to check your own regulations. RG6 cannot be used as HDMI, you will need RCA cable for audio.

      Thanks for your quick kind reply, what I need to use the HDMI cable for is to connect my IPTV box (Internet Streaming TV Service) which will be kept in my networking closet with my TV, so is the RCA cable can do the job?

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  6 років тому +1

      I dont know what connections your IPTV box has, but it probably has an audio out jack. Maybe it is RCA cables, maybe it is something else. But you will ultimately need to get it into an RCA cable.

    • @kingrpriddick
      @kingrpriddick 6 років тому +1

      Look up the definition of a plenum, if you have a whole attic return system it is against US federal code to use riser cable in your attic, because plenum cable has a more fire retardant sheath. Some cities and states have code that requires all plenum cable no matter the location or use of the cable (though sometimes this is only for commercial). I've heard stories of inspectors just requiring plenum cable without the code requiring it and that's a shame really.
      3 easy answers: 1) just use plenum cable 2) go ask your local electrical inspector 3) don't care and do what you want.

The access point have all been covered to where the wires are not visible but one controller was left with a sliding volume control.

    Awesome set up. I just started wiring my new house to run this exact system. Did you use RCA cables from the kitchen and TV’s for those inputs? Or did you run coax and then convert from coax to RCA at the amp and the wall outlets? Also - can I bridge two outputs together to yield higher watts to my outdoor spreaders, if I’m only using 5 outputs for 5 rooms? I can’t wait to get this system up and running!

    • @TheKMZ1
      @TheKMZ1  5 років тому +1

      RCA cables and coax are the same thing, it's just that the home grade cables are much, much thinner wires. But at it's core they are built the same way. But to answer your question i used coax cable to make the RCA cables, because i needed custom lengths, but most importantly, you need the thicker cable so you dont have audio loss in your cable when going long distances. with cheap thin off the shelf cables, if you tried to get one that long, the audio would not travel very far due to the wire being so thin. You can't bridge them together that i know of, but you can chain 2 or even up to 3 of these amps together to make an 18 zone 6 source system. But even at the current output levels, they are loud, i have outdoor speakers, and they can push a great deal of sound.

Check out my videos on my channel over the WS66i! It's the newer model, better than this amp. But if you really really have to cut on the cost then yes the monoprice is still fine.
