One note on selecting your main pawn, if things shake out like DD1 there will be a lot of options for mages in the rift because everyone wants support but not many want to take on the role. If there is another role you know you want but don't want to play (e.g. I want ranged dps in my party but don't want to play archer) it might be worth making that your main pawn and grabbing a mage from the rift. one of the nice things about DD though is these choices aren't locked in at character creation so you can always change your mind later.
my feeling is the opposite, most people who made mages literally had no idea what they were doing and had garbage builds with terrible skills. Like weapon buffs for two different elements, or multiple spells of the same element. If you wanted a good support mage you basically had to do it yourself.
Litterity what I did in the OG is made my main a strider, my main pawn a fighter, and both of the other pawns as mages, but covering different aspects.
I was going to buy this game later today on steam however, I had forgotten about your link thanks for reminding me. I am torn between Fighter and Mage but Rogue looks cool too. So I have enjoyed your video and now own the game. Thanks
I'll probably start archer but I will be ranking up all vocations to keep it fresh and for those sweet sweet passives, likely ending up on warfarer, MA, or mystic spearhand when its all said and done. And stats are dynamic now so there is no downside to changing it up while you level. And my pawn has and forever will be a giant black man named steve, a fighter or warrior. A good tank or knockdown minion is super helpful, and if its anything like the first, more skills is not always better on pawns if you want them to focus on certain things
I love that you are covering this. All your content is awesome. I know I want to eventually get to Mystic Spearhand, but Fighter and Thief both interest me pretty equally, as well. Thief going into Mystic Spearhand looks surprisingly synergetic strictly in terms of the dexterous/dynamic fighting style. Dodging, teleporting, etc. I am so excited for this game.
Trickster looks interesting, but classes like that tend to be underwhelming in really combat-focused games, so I might end up going for Sorcerer instead.
@@italianspartacus Trickster is totally Hunting Horn from Monster Hunter. As you were describing these classes, it felt VERY heavily inspired by Monster Hunter (ie: warrior = greatsword, trickster = hunting horn, fighter = sword & shield, thief = dual blades, etc)

I feel like warfarer may solve my big problem with Sorcerer from DD1 in that when they were working they were great, but there were some encounters that I just couldn't get a cast off which really put me off the class. I'll have to wait to see how it's implemented in practice but I really like the idea of being able to play, for example, a mystic spearhand that can pull out an archstaff and go ham when the opportunity presents it self. That said I wouldn't be surprised if the warfarer was missing more than just stats compared to the classes you take your weapons from, that swap mechanic has to live somewhere in the control scheme, and it may be R1/RB where some of the class specific abilities seem to be mapped.
From what I have seen on other channels, the weapon swap on warfarers will occupy one of the weapon skill slots, specifically A(Xbox)/X(Playstation). Some have also been saying that it will only have access to three weapon skills total, spread across it's equipped weapons. Hopefully this is a mistranslation/misunderstanding.
I used assassin in dd1 with a sword and bow and leaned heavy on the parry skill, clairvoyance. So i guess I'll start as fighter and see if I can make it work without a shield. After all shields engender passivity.
Well, here we are at the release of another huge game I'm excited for and I still haven't finished Act 1 of BG3. I have a feeling I won't be finishing Dragon's Dogma 2 either because I'll get trapped restarting over and over cuz I can't decide what class I want to be or how I want my character to look. Or some other done BS that will make me restart a hundred times til I get burned out from the game.
Don't worry too much about restarting for DD2, I had the same issue in BG3 where I spent almost 100 hours trying out which character and class would feel "right" (finally found it in a dark urge dragonborn sorcerer, how unique lol) but for dragon's dogma you can swap classes dynamically. Go to someone that lets you change classes, equip a different type of weapon, a few skills and bam you're ready to go back to exploring ; stats should adjust by themselves depending on which class you're on, no need to re-allocate points. So you don't need to pick a definitive class or anything, just swap to one that you want to play when you wish to try something else. You can think of your character as a jack of all trades if the RP aspect concerns you ; I would say vocations mostly define your character during combat. And for appearance, we will have barbershops too (in the first game, we could change hair, hair color, makeup and voice but we probably will have more options in 2) So yeah I get you, but DD games are mostly about fun fantasy fights so you should have an easier time with it !

Just a note, I didn’t hear anything about Capcom getting rid of augments so I’m pretty sure they’ll still be in the game. And if that’s so, certain augments can only be acquired through certain vocations, like in the first game. So it probably be best to play most of the vocations to get certain augments you want for your characters.

Trickster can still summon "ghosts" that fight but it clearly needs pawns to be truly effective. It is kind of irritating it is an arisen only class, because it would be an awesome class for a support pawn. Playing a pure support role in a single player game doesn't seem like it will be very exciting for most players.
I plan to start thief, progress through those skills along with archer and mystic spearmen and lastly just become a wayfarer. I feel wayfarer with those combos i can have tones of range opportunity along with some close up grab techniques. Especially since wayfarer damage depends on how well you use your vocation skills together it seems.
I'm going to be honest im a bit sad that there is no advance theif and ranger vocation......or im hoping that they just don't want to tell us as a surprise.....hoping hoping
Starting with thief, switching to mystic spearhand as soon as i can. Pawn will be mage. Second playtrough, solo warrior looking like Senator Armstrong (NANOMACHINES, SON!)

I think im going to main Magic Archer, with a thief, mage, and sorcerror pawn. I'm hoping the mage and sorcerror will help each other cast spells, and that between me and the mage, we'll be able to keep the parties health topped off, and that the thief will be able to get a lot of attacks in thanks to CC from the 3 of us. If it doesn't work the way I envision, I think I'll switch the thief for a fighter. Let him taunt and tank while the rest of us sit in the back dropping bombs.
I'm going Mage than into sorcerer and my pawn will be fighter so my pawn can take Agroo so I don't get interrupted while I cast than my third pawn will be a mage and my last probably thief or Archer
I have no clue as to what I will choose at the start of the game, I just know that my eventual decision for a vocation is between magick archer and mystic spearhand.
Wonder how long it take to unlock Mystic Spearhand and what vocation should you should for a roleplay / easier transition into it. You said fighter / mage, but the quick gameplay give me thief vibe more than figther
It would be good of you could fight with two swords as a fighter. I like the warrior's gigantic weaponwielder type approatch, but i'm courious if you could play without a shield, like a "berzerker".. probably not..
The only thing I'm a bit concerned about is the no advanced/hybrids related to the core thief or archer playstyles. Like there's no advanced archer with a longbow, or an advanced dagger assasin. Also seems like the classic mystic warrior is gone, which sucks a bit since i liked the idea of a melee tank with support magic.
Yeah i was thinking the same about playing Trickster. Don't want to trick a full pack of mobs off a cliff if you lose all the loot you would normally get from them.
Don't worry, dragons dogma isn't hard, and I really doubt them when they say the game is going to be harder. As long as you have stamina and heals, you'll be fine.
Love your stuff man. Been following since Bannerlord released. Love me some DD. Have been waiting 10+ years for this one. I’m gonna try archer bc I usually play the up-close and personal melee characters, and I want to try something different. Do you really think these are the only hybrid and advanced vocations we are getting though? I have a hard time believing we won’t get advanced archer and thief vocations. Same for the fighter/thief and archer/thief hybrids. Seems odd.
@@italianspartacus I'm holding out on hope that the Warfarer will allow you to approximate MK. If not, sticks are cool too. 🤣 Glad to see you making quality videos for another game I'm looking forward to. Your no BS approach is such a relief after the years of Destiny 1 "news" I put up with.
Fighter all the way for me. While warrior made me fall in love with dd1, fighter was more my playstyle. I like being the main tank. Drawing aggro to protect my party, and using instant blocking along with moves with invincibility frames to keep myself safe while dishing out damage along with staggering large targets. All I'm hoping is that shield drum actually draws aggro more consistently this time around.
I'm not sure! I'm doing some deep dive videos next week and I should have an answer for you. From what I understand, it's all encapsulated in that vocation
Does anybody know if the Thief/Rogue class still allows you to do the optimal dps skills and fast dashing? I believe it was the most broken vocation in the entire game with a very specific build for grapplehooking and infinitely slicing and dicing.
Going Archer then Magic Archer. Not sure what main porn to go with. Some say fighter, others say Mage. If i pick fighter, Im.lacking any healing, buffs or debuffs. If I pick a Mage then Im lacking any frontline DPS and will have 2 long range characters. Which would you recommend? Im.not sure if this correct. Is it just your Arisen and main pawn that level up with you and not the pawns?
There will be 700 billion mage pawns other people make for you to hire. Fighters are usually a little less common but you will find every class. Just make whatever you like, don't forget your pawn will also unlock augments and passives from ranking up vocations like you do so changing it up has benefits. It was super easy to swap out vocations and party memebers in 1.
Also assuming it's like 1. You can search for pawns to hire based on level, other pawns will not level with you as you go, but they will level as their owner syncs data with the server. So if you really like 1 pawn, if the owner plays and levels them up, you may be able to resummon them at the higher level, though their skills may have changed as well. But you should expect to be swapping pawns in and out regularly as you go
In the first game I played it like 6 times and 3 of those times I ended up playing Fighter all the way to the end. Advanced vocations is a bit of a misnomer that’s the only class (now) that uses sword and shield. Besides the ultimate hybrid class warfarer which lets you switch on the fly between vocations but in return has some drawbacks
You can basically never change your vocation. Advanced Classes are more offensive in terms of stats, i don't really know about hybrid vocations. If you wanna play fighter for the entire game you can do that.
The Warfarer vocation exists which allows you to mix and match whatever weapons and skills at lower baseline stats. So you could potentially try out other stats before eventually settling on a combination of sword/shield + other - the vocation job trailer shows a sorcerer casting an ice spell before swapping to a warrior greatsword for example
The Mage is the only vocation that has an advanced version (the sorcerer) the other vocations have no advanced version (unless you want to consider the warrior the advanced version of the fighter)
Advanced Vocation just means that you have to advance to it, you can't choose it from the beginning. It doesn't mean that it's a more advanced version of a basic vocation. Sorcerer uses a different weapon than Mages and loses access to Mage abilities, they serve different roles in a party, just like Fighters and Warriors serve different roles and use different weapons. Just like Rangers and Striders used different weapons and had different abilities.
If it's like dd1 you can change into any vocation at a trainer. So don't worry about what you start as, if you're not feeling a vocation just change it. No restart necessary.
Are they doing that goofy bs from the first game where you have to play a class you dont want to for 100 levels to get decent stats forbthe class you want?
Oh why dosent that spearhand be just a spear, halberd… ..polearm user. Spear has been the best weapon for fighting across history. We NEED polearms in games.
I hate that there’s no secondary weapons in this game . For the people who loved the Strider, assasin, Ranger or even magic archer there’s not really anything in this game for you
I've been worried about that too. I loved having a sword and bow in dd1. That said I'm still excited for the game. Hoping I can just not use a shield on fighter and have some sense of my dd1 character.
Do we think this game is worth the price though? It probably is, and honestly probably one of the only ones at that price that should be worth that price, but maannnn its steep...

The damage Magick archer can do looks so fucking sick
Subbed!
Welcome to the family!!
Got wipelash from that F bomb, been a while since I heard that word on UA-cam lol
Hahahaha I sneak it in here and there 😏 especially on stream
As long as I can do the tenfold explosive arrow build I don’t need any other build
Yeah, the "I'm fking rich to spam 10 bombs per strike" build. I love it 😊
I'm going Mage than into sorcerer and my pawn will be fighter so my pawn can take Agroo so I don't get interrupted while I cast than my third pawn will be a mage and my last probably thief or Archer
can't wait to play this game❤
Probably gonna start as archer then go magick archer but mystic spearhand and trickster does look cool
I loved the way shooting felt in ddda and archer seems to have combined a lot of skills of strider and ranger for bow stuff
I'm in the same exact boat!
I made Melina as my mage pawn. The "fire keeper" of elden ring.
Imma start thief so i can teach my pawn to climb monsters like a crazy. Curious to see how well pawn learning works compared to the 1st game
Yeah the pawn stuff has been markedly improved from everything I've seen so I'm excited to witness it first hand
I have no clue as to what I will choose at the start of the game, I just know that my eventual decision for a vocation is between magick archer and mystic spearhand.
I'm in the same boat brother!
Wonder how long it take to unlock Mystic Spearhand and what vocation should you should for a roleplay / easier transition into it. You said fighter / mage, but the quick gameplay give me thief vibe more than figther
Fighter, the path I choose will not be easy
It would be good of you could fight with two swords as a fighter.
I like the warrior's gigantic weaponwielder type approatch, but i'm courious if you could play without a shield, like a "berzerker".. probably not..
The only thing I'm a bit concerned about is the no advanced/hybrids related to the core thief or archer playstyles. Like there's no advanced archer with a longbow, or an advanced dagger assasin. Also seems like the classic mystic warrior is gone, which sucks a bit since i liked the idea of a melee tank with support magic.
So ready for this game. The wait is killing me.
I'm going either thief or archer for myself and my main pawn is just a toss up depending. Maybe mage Or fighter/warrior.
Bruv I saw the wayfarer create and climb an ice pillar, followed by slam dunking an ogre with a great sword so yeah I know what my class is gonna be.
appreciated!
NO YOU'RE APPRECIATED
@@italianspartacus I see what you did there...
Wonder how looting will go, because i'll not toss that many mobs off cliffs if they take my loot with them.
Yeah i was thinking the same about playing Trickster. Don't want to trick a full pack of mobs off a cliff if you lose all the loot you would normally get from them.
I'll be starting with Archer.
Where I go from there, well see.
That's what I'm thinking too!
@@italianspartacus I'll eventually master all of them, but archer is where I'm starting.
I'm curious to see how the augments work this time around.
I’m undecided between an archer or a theif, any tips or help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you for such a wonderful and informative video
I want to try the Trickster before getting frustrated and switching to an easier class.
Don't worry, dragons dogma isn't hard, and I really doubt them when they say the game is going to be harder. As long as you have stamina and heals, you'll be fine.
HAHAHAHA
Love your stuff man. Been following since Bannerlord released. Love me some DD. Have been waiting 10+ years for this one. I’m gonna try archer bc I usually play the up-close and personal melee characters, and I want to try something different. Do you really think these are the only hybrid and advanced vocations we are getting though? I have a hard time believing we won’t get advanced archer and thief vocations. Same for the fighter/thief and archer/thief hybrids. Seems odd.
If there isn’t a pawn exclusive summoner vocation then I don’t see the mystic spear hands telekinesis being viable in a lot of cases
I haven't heard of one but I'd love that
Greatsword play as Gutz from Berserk.
My warrior sorcerer combo bout to go crazy
R.I.P. Mystic Knight.
I know I'm bummed because that's what I wanted to play!
@@italianspartacus
I'm holding out on hope that the Warfarer will allow you to approximate MK. If not, sticks are cool too. 🤣 Glad to see you making quality videos for another game I'm looking forward to. Your no BS approach is such a relief after the years of Destiny 1 "news" I put up with.
Is it confirmed that there are no other vocations, cause it feels off that archer and thief have no advanced and only hybrids.
Really hope they add more. Love the mystic spearhand vocation but hoping they add mystic knight as well :/
It is the game director. itsuno himself said thats it, but they're moght be dlc for more
So if i pick the warfarer, i can have a big boi sword and blink around for the big hits?? Sounds good to me
You can combine the weapons of others at the cost of combo slots I think it was
Fighter all the way for me. While warrior made me fall in love with dd1, fighter was more my playstyle. I like being the main tank. Drawing aggro to protect my party, and using instant blocking along with moves with invincibility frames to keep myself safe while dishing out damage along with staggering large targets. All I'm hoping is that shield drum actually draws aggro more consistently this time around.
why arisen only class? this is they only mistake about this game classes.
Probably cause making ai to use the more complex playstyles is a waste of time, in the first game hybrid classes were also player only
are we still going to be able to take our passives and use them on any vocation ?
I'm not sure! I'm doing some deep dive videos next week and I should have an answer for you. From what I understand, it's all encapsulated in that vocation
“70 bucks” man I wish it was, in my country it’s 100$ lol
Worth it
GOD DAMN
Farewell assassin my beloved :( ...
It shall be missed!
@@italianspartacus But you know what won't be missed? The money I spent this morning buying Dragon's Dogma II from your nexus store
“Advanced vocation” - does it make it better than the pre-cursor vocation or just different?
Just a more focused job :) so warrior just focuses on dps from fighter but it's still plenty Tanky!
I’m going slightly smaller female thief & huge beast man fighter pawn
I would die if modders made the trickster weild a youtube censor as a weapon.
Is it just your Arisen and main pawn that level up with you and not the pawns?
ayo edit your comment lol you misspelled pawn
😂@@Asura10x10
@@Asura10x10Thanks,😂
But you should expect to be swapping pawns in and out regularly as you go
So... what can I do, if I want to use Shield + Sword the whole game? Is it possible to just stay Fighter or does it make sense?
In the first game I played it like 6 times and 3 of those times I ended up playing Fighter all the way to the end.
Advanced vocations is a bit of a misnomer that’s the only class (now) that uses sword and shield.
Besides the ultimate hybrid class warfarer which lets you switch on the fly between vocations but in return has some drawbacks
You can basically never change your vocation. Advanced Classes are more offensive in terms of stats, i don't really know about hybrid vocations. If you wanna play fighter for the entire game you can do that.
Sweet, thanks both of you! Never played Dragons Dogma 1.
It is possible and will work fine so long as you build your party to cover your weaknesses
The Mage is the only vocation that has an advanced version (the sorcerer) the other vocations have no advanced version (unless you want to consider the warrior the advanced version of the fighter)
What about magic archer?
Advanced Vocation just means that you have to advance to it, you can't choose it from the beginning. It doesn't mean that it's a more advanced version of a basic vocation. Sorcerer uses a different weapon than Mages and loses access to Mage abilities, they serve different roles in a party, just like Fighters and Warriors serve different roles and use different weapons. Just like Rangers and Striders used different weapons and had different abilities.
@@penhedlarry7694 thats a hybrid vocation between mage and archer
Warrior literally is the advanced vocation for fighter, why did you bother writing out this comment when you already know that
@@RaphaelAmbrosiusCosteau51 I literally mentioned that, the school system failed you, you can’t read
Give me that sword and board and the dark souls style parry. I'm going to start as a fighter
I never played the first one. When I change to the spearhand, Does my stats go back to lv per say. Or do I have reset my skill points?
Excited for thief, sad I haven’t seen Assassin in DD2 😢
Looks like it won't be coming :(
Can a thief go into a mystic spearhand. My only question?
If it's like dd1 you can change into any vocation at a trainer. So don't worry about what you start as, if you're not feeling a vocation just change it. No restart necessary.
What they said :)
i think i am going with the theif
I'm gonna play as Guts from berserk so I'm definitely going warrior
I’m thinking magick archer
That and spear hand just look so good
Do we know how intelligent the AI is for pawns?
In the first game its hard to get them to do exactly what you want. Maybe this game will be different.
how would we know that from a 30 minute demo
All the hands on have praised the pawns because the first game had terrible pawn AI. how that really looks is yet to be seen
Mage for me i was a mage in ddda
Mage always
Sorcerer after? Or just pure mage?
Are they doing that goofy bs from the first game where you have to play a class you dont want to for 100 levels to get decent stats forbthe class you want?
Nope! Stats are way easier n more flexible now
@italianspartacus thank God. I also thought it was silly that a lot of classes didn't even get the stats they need
@@zombiegodsire *magick archer and mystic knight* *cough cough*
Can't decide if I want to be guts or thorfinn 😭
I think you forgot the ranger too
Oh why dosent that spearhand be just a spear, halberd… ..polearm user.
Just play warfarer, same thing but weaker, probably not by that much.
Do we think this game is worth the price though? It probably is, and honestly probably one of the only ones at that price that should be worth that price, but maannnn its steep...
Yea 70 bucks is a lot and if you don’t have enough the game will most likely be on discount for about 50 bucks in 6-9 months
bro it’s 2024. 70 has been the norm for like 5 years now and you knew this game’s (and any other in the last few years) release date months prior. this is a game where you know it’s an instant buy, so you should have put away like idk at least 10 dollars a week for 7 weeks 😂😂😂
If you’re on pc steam keys are on sale in various legit places for like 50 something
@@getgoodscy get out of here with your rational and sensible thinking. Haha
@@getgoodscy but it’s less a question about it being expensive it’s more a question of value. Lots of games have released at that price yes, but not a lot are worth that price… alright fine I’ll admit, I have serious PTSD from buying D4 honestly. I choose all lol
The answer is... Yes hahahah
