    Thank you YmkRondo for this request. This is one of my favorite movies. Fun facts: The late 2Pac was supposed to play Malik but was dropped from the cast due to his legal troubles. Leonardo DiCaprio was supposed to play Remy, Jennifer Anniston & Gwyneth Paltrow was supposed to play Kristen & Taryn. They withdrew from the movie after 2Pac was dropped from the cast. Michael Rapaport wanted to play Scott. Sad fact: The dude with the pacifier was killed at a drag race by some asian blood gang members.

    The word "unlearn" appears in the closing shot, superimposed over the American flag, to indicate that the film is about learning at a higher level. The word "unlearn" is used by director John Singleton to describe releasing toxins that affect society and individuals, and also involves adopting a more progressive set of values.

    • @wassup3502
      @wassup3502 4 місяці тому +8

      That would've been a cool conspiracy theory cause Ricky died after that he couldn't live with the guilt so he got into school and went to college. Now he's getting deep into warfare perspectives that's why he has all those books cause he wants to know what led into his brother's death. Was it systematic or just being a product of your own environment? Went from Doughboy to Fudge.

    I don’t know if you remember from Don’t Be A Menace because it was only a brief scene, but there was a scene with the Wayans Bros and Omar Epps character walking down the street talking about graduating, and then it shows Omar Epps walking up the steps to a college and he suddenly gets shot down, and the camera cuts to a skin head up on a balcony who just shot him. That scene was parodying this movie.

    Omar’s character was wrong for how he treated his friend but not for how he felt. Historically speaking he’s absolutely correct in how he feels and as we can see today none of that as changed. Race relations against black folk are just as bad if not worsening. So him being hesitant on someone of another race treating him how Remi did is Accurate. Especially after a traumatic incident like that. I’ve been in Multiple situations like that and it’s a very valid feeling.

    Wow, watching this now really puts Lawrence Fishburn's character in perspective. I always looked at him as just a positive figure to push this young black man to greatness. But when he said "black ppl in this country are where they are because of laziness".. that took me aback. He is that immigrant enjoying the freedoms that black Americans died for while simultaneously belittling us. Never picked up on that when I was younger.

Larenz Tate, Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock, Terrence Howard and Ludacris, part of an all-star cast set in L.A. surrounding racial stereotypes. Definitely a drama but less volatile/violent than higher learning.

    23:10 in track they are all lined up correctly before the race starts even though it looks like they are not. The person who is running in the most inner- lane closest to the grass has the advantage because that inner lane is actually a shorter distance around the track than the next lane over and so on. That's why a little bit after the race starts they all are side by side when they get to the first straightaway...and he didn’t give up, it's a 4x100 m. race where you stop after you give the baton to the next guy.

Like everything else words get perverted 🤷. I saw myself as Epps aspiring to be Cube n Fishburne. Never a rapper, just accounting, law, IT etc.
    Rapport(?) was phenomenal in his role depicting just a regular lost individual much more than Epps character but getting too close to the ultra-right to think for himself.

The reason why they show the U.S flag & unlearn written across the screen shows that we as Americans need to go beyond our initial biases or prejudices & try to reshapen your perspectives. That also why the two characters at the beginning show up at the end but this time with a new perspective. You remember the yt girl clutch her purse when the omar got into the elevator now at the end she has more compassion cause of the suffering
