Records from the General Registry Office in Leeds, England confirm that Peter J (James) O'Toole was born in the north England town in 1932. His Scottish mother was a Ferguson and his father was a Galway-born bookmaker.
So yes fairly sure. I have read up a lot on Peter O'Toole. He fascinated me just as quite a few of his generation of actors did, so was always interested in him even when young. I think he enjoyed the whole Irish blarney and romanticism of hinting he might possibly have been born in Ireland, but he wasn't. It sounds better than saying Leeds, not quite the same romantic connotation that being born in some wild part of Ireland has, but it was Leeds. I took Robert Sellers biography on O'Toole to New Zealand with me to read thinking it would last a while but read it in the first few days as really enjoyed it however that's just one of a few things I have read on him over the years. But always happy to listen to some definitive proof you may have.

It is a tv program in Ireland called Strumpet City. He played Jim Larkin. He was wonderful in it.
What nonsense. You can never say you're unequivocally of one nationality when you grew up in a different country. You might wish you were...but you're not. And, on the other hand, as an actor O'Toole was without doubt a product of English culture. He simply couldn't have had that training or that career in the Ireland of the time. Supposing he was born and raised there. Which he wasn't.
And as if to emphasis the point, there is (as usual) a minimum of Irish language in this supposedly Irish-language programme.
