    I am from northern Norway but live in Oslo. I drive north by car about every 2 - 3 years. Something that never ceases to amaze me is that in Oslo it gets dark in the evening at around 10:00. But after only 1,500 km by car, it's bright all night. You get a sense of how small the earth actually is when 18 hours in a car can change the rhythm of the day so drastically.

    Lived in Norway my entire life, but first visited Lofoten Islands last summer. We are blessed with some nice nature in this country, but I was blown away by the lofoten islands. We got the same weather as you guys at Reinebringen and Ramberg beach as well. Now I just need to sort of my finances and buy myself a campervan as well. saw a few of your videos allready. Keep up the good work

    the stairs are made by himalayan sherpas, they hire several sherpas for the seasons to build these kinds of stairs around in Norway... these are paid well and make quite abit of money to take back to their village.

    They did, swimming in the artic ocean in a caribbean landscape. Yes, one of the beautifullest landscape I've ever been. Many thanks for your drone shots Tom. Unfortunately I was never been in such conditions for those 16.. steps. r u hooked now by the norge virus ? A mate who never had any relation to the nature told me after his short trip to Norway: you are always curious what to see avter the next curve on the road and you will never be disappointed. I am sure such impressions will never get out of your memory.

    The steps are laid manually by workers from a small village in Tibet. A Norwegian contractor employee 10-20 workers from the same village every year to build pathts in popular hard to get to turist spots. :)

      @Proskater134 2 роки тому +2

      Actually the government hire them to lay those steps, as the sherpas are amazing climbers and they are in incredible shape. They get paid roughly 20,000 Euro for two and a half months work each.

    • @stephenpresland7173
      @stephenpresland7173 2 роки тому +1

      @@Proskater134 It's a Geirr Vetti of Stibyggjaren AS that employ the Sherpas and are contracted by local or national goverment to upgrade hard to get tourist spots.
      There are several UA-cam films of the work they carry out.

    On Otrøya, outside Molde there's a 2200step staircase...
    And both these staircases and many others here in Norway were built by Tibetan Sherpas.
    And they love working here. In just a few months they earn more than they could hope for in a year, without the danger of climbing Mt. Everest. And they consider the work 'easy'...
    Incidentally, if you visit Galdhøpiggen, Norways highest mountain, you might find Dawa Chhiri, one of the more famous Sherpas working as a guide.
    Remember, the more Sherpas that can find well-paying work outside Tibet, the fewer has to risk their lives guiding people with no common sense or climbing experience up Mt. Everest.

      Thanks 4 that info, I was wondering abt that looking at d prayer flags at d bottom of stairs. One correction though...Everest & most other 8k+ high peaks r in Nepal not Tibet also, Sherpa people mostly live in d Himalayan regions of Nepal & India.

    Hi!
    We just stumbled upon your channel a couple days ago, since we are accompanying a pair of swedish irish-playing musicians on a ten day tour in Ireland, leaving Sweden 2 of july. You have a great channel and your positivity is inspiring. Now I just wanted you to know about the motorhome place "Raften", a highlight on our motorhome Lofoten trip back in 2018. Showers, toilets, fresh water, beautiful scenery and the "Hurtigruten" passing by. Almost camping standard! Cant remember if there were any washingmachines though...
    As for us, We´ll be looking forward to visiting a lot of pubs in Ireland in a few weeks!
    Stay safe!

      If I'm not mistaken those steps were built by Nepalese sherpas, as Norway has hired them for over a decade by now to build paths all over Norway, there was even a documentary about it in Norway: "Sherpas - the ones building our paths".
      For 3 months work in Norway they earn the same as 30 years of work in Nepal, and Norway also builds Buddhist temples for them so they're more comfortable the months they are here.

    • @nor-wayking6757
      @nor-wayking6757 2 роки тому +4

      Sherpas first began working in Norway in 2000 and have built paths and stairways in over 100 different Norwegian locations.
      Much of their work has been filmed by a documentary team from national broadcaster NRK, who interviewed a number of the Nepalese mountaineers.
      Sherpas come from a small area of the Himalayan mountain range near Mount Everest - and traditionally from a specific village - and live their entire lives at high altitude, training from an early age the ability to lift and carry heavy objects on their backs.

    Wasn't it so that the walking path up Reinebringen was quite slippery and dangerous in upper parts before the stone steps were laid down? Certainly looks like a good idea to get them there. On the other hand it attracts larger crowds. Hardly seen so many people on a mountain path before in Norway, the space up there isn't exactly very large..
