this was a pretty helpful tutorial given I have been working on a few new weapons for my spinners and this was really helpful and insightful

When you right click on the body and go to properties (where you get your weight from) and scroll down it will also give the dimensions to where the center of mass is.
Another way I do it if the total diameter isn't that critical, is to design the type of weapon that I want then grab those dimension and then draw up the hub using those dimensions. Then the hub is exactly on the center of mass. This works well for non symmetrical designs where the center of mass is off in both the x and y directions

Oh I didnt realize the center of mass was in the properties, that would be helpful for a quick gauge but I do like the visual marker.
I have seen some people mention using the create hub on the center of mass method, but personally, I've never had a robot design where the total diameter isn't that critical. Normally because I'm trying to keep the robot compact around the weapon so clearances need to be exact

Yay thanks Ben! I love tutorials because I am pretty lost when it comes to these things

That's a very nice, very simple tutorial. 👍
What would you recommend though for those who don't have Fusion360? I would've imagined calculating centroids on composite shapes, but they do sound more complex and time-consuming than this.
Which version of 360 do you use? Is it the personal use version that's free for a year, and does that have the centre of mass tool built-in?
Sorry if these questions sound silly.

I'm using the free version and it has the centre of mass tool built-in.
I don't really know a way to do it in other software, personally, I held off designing single tooth weapons until I started using fusion and found the centre of mass tool

Interesting video ben, i've been designing my own spinner blade recently and ran into some snags with materials and such. So i think im going to run it through fusion first. A friend in the automotive industry said that it was free so im down to give it a shot.

Cheers dude. I’ve just made the move from sketchup to fusion and it’s very handy to know the different techniques 👍👍👍

Thanks Ben ...give tutorial of tips and tricks for chassis design.....here in India aluminium blocks milling machines are common can you explain how to make a unibody and the other way how you designed your feather weight bot

Chassis design is something I have been thinking about doing tutorials for, but my workflow for designs is a little unique and probably wont work for most people.
I also havent done a unibody chassis robot yet, its something I want to do though.
So I'll hold off doing a tutorial for that until I understand more about the process

That was really useful. Thanks. I'm quite comfortable with 2D AUTOCAD but have struggled with Fusion as it doesn't seem as logical

Yeah I found fusion super confusing when I first started with it. You definitely have to think a very fusion way to get the best out of it

hey dude, about the center of mass, i have a 0.36777mm of distance between the center of mass to center of the spinner. i'll have problems with the vibration? the spinner spins up to 5600 rpm :3

    • @TeamPanicRobotics
      @TeamPanicRobotics  3 роки тому

The faster you go the worse any vibrations will be
You'll never get it perfect, but personally I try to get the distance to around 0.04mm

Haha yeah, I have a few machines each running a different version of windows. It just so happens that the one I have my recording software on is a windows 7 machine.
      I probably should upgrade it
