      Compliments to the folks who develop the engines and software, as well. I wonder if one day they won't need to learn the real thing. Sims will get better and race cars could be driver-less, piloted like drones. The VR environment would be 360* onboard cameras. There definitely should emerge a new racing league, for sure.

    • @fabianblom2458
      @fabianblom2458 6 років тому +32

      It isn't exactly like that. Yes, the skills you learn in sims will carry over to real life after some short practice. Like knowing how to take a line, knowing how the car responds to certain inputs or just simple things like shifting gears. But a person who has no other experiences with driving other than simracing would rarely just be able to jump into a car and be fast let alone drive it without any instructions at all. You kind of need to have experiences from real life as well for that to be the case.

      I actually did find myself perfectly counter steering an unexpected slide in my NA miata when I first got it 4 months ago. It felt great. It definitely played a part in the fact that I got in the car and drove it manually without any major problems. Got it smooth within a few days after never driving stick before. I did underestimate the feeling of using a clutch because of my t500rs pedals not really being able to simulate it that much. And the gated shifter feel was different than I thought it would be. Since I did that first slide I'm throwing it around hairpins all the time now.

    when you do the experiences in the future, can you mention how the real thing compares to the sim equiv and what the differences are. maybe drive a car similar to what you drove in the games etc after and give us a comparison? i just think it would be a nice touch as a lot of sim racers have never experienced real thing to have a comparison

    • @ultimatefriikki
      @ultimatefriikki 6 років тому +10

      I can say that it is really hard to compare the real thing and a sim, especialy without spending days, weeks and months doing both. In a real life rally car you can feel the grip, feel the road and feel the forces pushing the car. When you get a ride from a professional for the first time it is absolutely mad how much you can feel the road even from the passenger seat. I know there are some rigs that have g-force chassis and other stuff like that, but I don't think it is even possible to capture the real thing and make it into a sim.

    • @ZeroAltera
      @ZeroAltera 6 років тому +3

      When I race on a sim it's mostly to memorize a track and start to plan my braking points. Other than that I don't find a sim and a real racecar very similar. They are really two different activities for me.

    Excellent stuff, Jimmer. I'll show this to any nay-sayer (I know a few) who claims that sim racing doesn't contribute to someone getting a better feel for driving/racing IRL, "because it's not the same". Sure, in some ways it isn't the same, but it will develop swifter reactions and increase the ability to think and look ahead, something that's essential for driving in the real world.
    Anyway, I'm rambling. Keep up the good work!

    Great video. nice experience every one of us dream to have.
    The dirtier that Subaru gets the more beautiful it is in my eyes.
    Yet the video lacks the sim racing aspect to it and it is a bit so narcissistic focusing on you having fun rather than giving the viewers anything useful.

  • @Republic3D

    The funny thing is that in Norway, learning to drive on snow or ice is mandatory when getting the drivers license. The tracks look a lot like the one in the beginning of this video. In summertime they'll put oil on the asphalt to make it slippery. The reason of course - is that winter driving in Norway consists of going sideways through roundabouts half the time, especially if you have RWD.
