Do you know what your lap time was? Looking from the video (if nothing was cut, but the sounds seems to continue during cam swaps) you had some laps around 1.22 which is very fast. The question is, what would the stig do with that car ...
True, first lap he started commenting is about 1.28, next lap is like 1.22 or something like that. Those are pretty good lap times. Hmmm if i can compare with stig's time i d say something like the caterham r500 laptimes which was something like 1.17.9 (not sure i did not recheck the video, i am sure for the 1.17 but not the .9). Or maybe a bit slower than that, like an 1.19 . In any case that an estimation of mine, still Jimmy's lap times are between 1.21 and 1.25, which i consider amazing. I know for sure that there is no way i would go under 1.35 with this car, or maybe i would even crash...

Kudos for you not cutting the video where you asked for the mic. Plenty of youtubers would have cut it out..... you're a genuine dude, keep going because we need more genuine youtubers from humble beginnings!
That was great to watch, it’s quite surprising how much extra mechanical grip there is the first time you go out on track with slicks, especially as you say with the braking. How did you find your times compared to the sim world (if Dunsfold and the 570 gt4 are available in a sim?) I appreciate you have to keep a reasonable amount in reserve due to the value of the car, can’t blend between throttle / brake due to the electronics of the car (that did seem strange) but it did look like you got some good laps in. There was a vbox HD2 camera in the cabin so presumably all data and video with overlays will be featured in a follow up video?
The thing I love about this channel is seeing someone having a dream and just working at it methodically using tools that most people might just scoff at and then somehow making that dream into a reality. At the core of it is the question of whether simulators are a valid way to build up impressive driving skills and you've certainly proved that within certain limitations that serious racing sims work on that account. Having said that, I wish that you'd do at least one 20 minute to 30 minute video on how a newcomer to racing sims like RFactor etc can use them to build those skills from scratch. Basically a tutorial to get us on track to somewhere in the same zone where you're at now.
That's really cool you got to drive a real race car. I got to drive stock cars here in the USA for almost 15 years from the late 70's till early 90's and it was one of the highlights of my life. I raced in 5 different classes and 3 different series. Everything from figure 8 to road racing and Super stock on a 3/8 mile oval to Nascar Street stock class mostly in 65 and 71 Mustangs, 68 Cougars, or 71 Torinos. I have also raced sims, but I don't have the internet speed where I live now to be able to race on the web with other sim racers. Sure wish I did and had the money to get all the proper gear to be able to race. So for me I just have to live it through guy like you and Matt M. Congrats on your first real driving experience and you really need to get into a real race with other cars someday, It is such a rush!
Very nice Jimmy! And a superb video aswell, the way you presentated this is on a really high level. You can't only drive your heart out in videogames (and apperently in real cars), but you're so good in front of the camera aswell. You really should be doing something in F1 as a commentator/presenter: great voice, great knowledge and great personality. Would love to see a race while listening to your voice or watch a documentary you made. Anyway, keep up the good work!
Incredible Jimmy. I can only imagine the feeling of being in a car like that. So happy for you (and, a bit jealous). May this year bring even more joy man. Great things are coming for you.
Jimmy, you so looked the part man. I saw the girls wanted a photo with you. Given your fantastic hair, great smile and all, you could easily fit in as some bon vivant Race Car Driver any day. Need to get you out in a real race car more often. Nice job man.
The production quality of this video is insane and after watching this video Im thrilled to see maybe more videos of that kind. Im sooo glad that you got the opportunity to get into a real race car and drive it around on its capabilities (sort of). Now please, Basement kids and all the over bros of jimmer army, we need to spread the word for jimmer and try to get him more opportunities like that so Jimmer can have a great 2019 and future. Share the video on twitter, facebook, insta and link other racing teams to get Jimmer in a racecar again! Lets go Jimmer army!
Really glad you have the opportunity to accomplish what is probably the dream of all simracers. I have a big smile on my face thanks to this video. Cheers!
I only check on this channel every once and a while but I know this was a treat. You can tell from only the look in your eyes you were stressed but ultra stoked. Have fun - hope you get to drive stuff like that in future.
Watching this again after your progress in brit car. All i can say is Great job jimmy. Keep doing great and living your dream. Proud of all you've done.
Awesome James and Kudos McLaren! I’ve driven an F2, F3, etc. Switching to sims hasn’t been that easy because I rely on different feels to find speed when driving a proper race car. Now it’s all up to my hands, eyes and ears. I’m interested to hear your feedback going the other way. The forces the push and pull. The belts being tight is a feeling in itself. Also things like vision distortion under heavy breaking in the bumpy spots etc. Love the channel and looking forward to your thoughts once you’ve processed your amazing experience. Cheers 🍻
I haven't drove a race car or a proper fast car to compare, but in my early years at simracing I got the chance to spent almost the entire day on a track with a Mazda 2. A few things astonished me, one that the handling and physics of Simracing games are on point (I thought "Sims are just games, they are not even near the real thing that they claim"). And also the massive amount of additional information that you get just from putting your butt on the car (Nikki Lauda was right about the butt feelings haha). I didn't go fast enough, to experiment visual distortion nor I haven't spend enough time on the real thing to get a sense of those details that can't be emulated. But the thing is that the Sim racing games teach you a lot more than what you think, they can be really impressive. But anyways this is the perspective of a regular person, not an expert Sim Racer or even a competitive one.
Antonio. Great response Antonio. I think VR will help me a lot. When racing your field of vision is completely different. Going into a corner I would be looking 45-60 degrees off where the nose of the car was pointing. Now I can see maybe 10 degrees staring at my tv. As for the “butt” Lauda spoke of, ..... that’s very real.
I;ve been watching you over the last few months and I've really enjoyed watching you. So happy for you that you got an opportunity like this! Congratulations and keep up the great work!
That is just awesome Jimmer. So good to see your reactions to the car and the performance. I did a couple of driving experiences thanks to missus, fastest being an M5 and it just blows your mind what a fast car can do. The adrenaline is something else. Glad you had a great time and hope you get another go soon.

@9600GTMAN you missed the joke
@9600GTMAN haha
Jimmy is doing flying laps, all of the Top Gear laps were from a stop
Gotta love being that instructor and trying to tell a Jimmer what to do while he's ignoring you and doing his own commentary 😂
Jimmer would narrate his spouse giving birth if it came down to it
Thicc Brit leaves his shed to put all those hours of virtual code manipulation and paying subscriptions and puts it to the test
best moment 14:05 :) Seeing a man so happy . So happy that a such a genuine good chap got to experience this. Keep doing this Jimmy, we experience these things through you. And well done on top notch commentary during the drive. You are a natural.
Ah, the rare OUTSIDE boi
3 laps for Jimmy and he's confident with the car... Woaw... All the luck for the competition my friend! You deserve to win the contest!
Kudos for you not cutting the video where you asked for the mic. Plenty of youtubers would have cut it out..... you're a genuine dude, keep going because we need more genuine youtubers from humble beginnings!
You should try it with 100 percent force feedback
Next video:
How fast is a McLaren 570S GT4 around the Nordschleife?
👏👏👏👏👏
8:38 put the biggest smile on my face, like a kid in a sweet shop so pumped for you Jimmer, ben a fan since day one this was awesome to watch
I don't know what's more awesome! The fact that you drove a race car or that you were driving on a fking top gear test track!
Star in a not-so-reasonably priced car
Foxy454 essentially what they should have had done for race drivers that were on the show
12:30 Wow Mate! you got the sequence of turns down! :) and a nice laugh of Joy when you realize you really are doing it!
wow what a thing of beauty!
Woooooww! That’s awesome Jimmer!
Glad seeing you around here :-)
Enderfailer I love this channel
Basically a tutorial to get us on track to somewhere in the same zone where you're at now.
next video will be: "Can i beat my own time in a McLaren 570S GT4 at the top gear test track?"
Wont be surprised, expecting it tomorrow
"watch out for the bump.....there it is" unreal dude. That commentary on like your third lap, nailed it
running in the ‘19s
atleast its got a better ring than 18s
Lmao
+sniper 1k2 we´ll see :P
@@sniper1k223 of course is would seeing how they say 90's in the song..
Anyway, keep up the good work!
keepiebake agreed!
All the pro drivers say the same thing about driving with Jimmy: he's a nice, smooth driver.
Incredible Jimmy. I can only imagine the feeling of being in a car like that. So happy for you (and, a bit jealous). May this year bring even more joy man. Great things are coming for you.
This makes me happy. Enjoy the journey Jimmy, were all here to support and watch!
Jimmy, you so looked the part man. I saw the girls wanted a photo with you. Given your fantastic hair, great smile and all, you could easily fit in as some bon vivant Race Car Driver any day. Need to get you out in a real race car more often.
Nice job man.
Dayum Jimmy looking fly in that opening clip
No homo
But it's true
U rite
U rite
He was cute af and I like women
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed!
He really does have a great head of hair. It's the hair I swear.
I was absolutely flabbergasted by how handsome he is.
5:35
Instructor: Gives instructions.
Jimmy: Puts foot down hears nothing but the engine almost comes in pants
more like 6:05
Pretty sure he hears him fine over the intercom.
Instructor "Get on the power now"
I know this is an Old video. But that is seriously a dream. Driving a racecar, and at the Top Gear Test Track!
So you have goal now. Just become a driving centered UA-camr and get big.
@@VirtuelleWeltenMitKhan That is honestly a goal of mine that I'm slowly working towards... So, hopefully one day!
No foot cam?????? Shaking my hans......
lol
literally unwatchable!!1
Really glad you have the opportunity to accomplish what is probably the dream of all simracers. I have a big smile on my face thanks to this video. Cheers!
Wow. These sim games are getting better and better!
Yeah, but none of them have yet added the option to mute the navigator or pit captain...
Cali van Keulen I keep a glock in my race suit
>Can't hear anything other than the car
>Turn on caption
>Says "[Music]"
*_You're Goddamn Right_*
I only check on this channel every once and a while but I know this was a treat. You can tell from only the look in your eyes you were stressed but ultra stoked. Have fun - hope you get to drive stuff like that in future.
Imagine telling 3 year a go jimmer what current day jimmer will be doing. What a well deserved drivey boi. Cant wait to see more real driving.
jimmy you look like a btec alonso in that helmet haha
When he walked out at first with the helmet on I thought the exact same thing lol
Hahha yeah he is
Watching this again after your progress in brit car. All i can say is Great job jimmy. Keep doing great and living your dream. Proud of all you've done.
So how do the physics and FFB compare to other sims?
It has even much better immersion than Project Cars 2.
The damage model is insane
The graphics and sounds are perfect
cons: overpriced DLC
Great sense of speed
As for the “butt” Lauda spoke of, ..... that’s very real.
lmao,
5:36 "voices drowned out by sweet McLaren noise"
Jimmy, Im so happy for you. I enjoyed that lap just as much as you. Now, join their GT racing team but watch out for their F1 team, a bit dodgy.
T h i c c brit drives a GT4 to the limit thinking he was playing iRacing
So happy for you Jamble!
I;ve been watching you over the last few months and I've really enjoyed watching you. So happy for you that you got an opportunity like this! Congratulations and keep up the great work!
Im just appalled you were constantly flipping us off the whole time. Dont even try to excuse it by saying you were just shifting 😉
I recently found you and it’s really enjoyable to watch you playing or irl. I hope you can make it into a real world career, this video was good.
YOU LOOK LIME FERNANDO WITH A HELMET ON😭😂😂😂👌
Seriously tho congrats in ticking off a life dream Jimmer xxxx
That's exactly what i thought haha.
that helmet never fits on anyones head
He really does look like Nando doesn't he
Some say that he IS the Nando...
