Fun observation: I just noticed that "Andy" who wins the date with Monie is actually Andy Collins. Who worked for Hewland International, who made the show... so not a plant in the slightest eh (though by all accounts, a lovely chap - how did the date go Andy?). He later went on to present Family Fortunes. I don't know what his role was (if any) on Games Master, but on its sister-show on Sky, Games World, he was an off-camera, kid-safe, standup comedian and warm-up presenter who was there to get all the yoofs cheering, energetic and hollering just before the cameras started rolling and Bob Mills took the stage for the actual recording (a role he's even continued until recent times for Ant & Dec, or as they're more famously known "PJ and Duncan"). I wouldn't be surprised if he did the same for Games Master, but only an audience attendee would be able to confirm I expect, unless some of the old crew are still floating around online and want to chip-in (used to chat to a fair few of them, but lost contact a long time ago). He later got promoted to presenting season 4 of Games World (the low budget final season that used Games Master's desert island set and aired for 15 minutes in the pre-school graveyard slot of 7am, practically "Up with the Partridge"), and later also presented Game Over on The Computer Channel/.TV which was also produced by Hewland, featuring what last few GM/GW production crew that could still be hired for a tenner... though that said, Game Over actually started the comedy career of future-star Matt Berry, just as Games World had done for David Walliams, so is actually an integral part of television history. I hated this season, but I still watched it at the time, since I was a child with low standards, but it introduced me to Mortal Kombat, which I've been a lifelong fan of to this day, so can't say it was all bad (definitely miss Daniel Pesina's energy in the franchise). Great video, can't wait for more... hope you may one day tackle Games World too?
Interesting stuff, and now you've pointed out who he is, I recognise him immediately! Games World is certainly on the cards, though finding a full set is proving tougher than GamesMaster, sadly
Yeah the oral history of gamesmaster talks about all the behind the scenes stuff and why series 3 has this ridiculous kids championship which is because the UK government started using Oxford prison to rehouse prisoners after they filmed the first block of the series and so had to use the house setting instead and make up the tournament to save the series. This series also had a new director and producer and explains why it's so disjointed making Dexter fletchers life a lot trickier when he was told to ad lib about a subject he knew nothing about. Also girl from series ones name is definitely dolat as she is in the book pictured with DD so that mystery is also put to bed
I own the golden joystick Kris Akubusi gave to the girl that lost in this series. I didn't mind the series, but again, like shows such as Bullseye and The Crystal Maze, it's a show that heavily relied on the persona and charisma of its previous host., and you never realize how dry a premise it can be until after they've left.
"I own the golden joystick that Kris Akubusi gave to the girl that lost in this series" Larry, I get a sudden mental image of you waiting behind the shop wheelie bins with a domino mask and a cosh.
I actually entered that team challenge. me and 2 mates headed off to Camden for the audition on the wettest coldest day of the year, stood around for ages waiting for it to start and, to get the instructions for the day while getting soaked, then all the systems we had to play were outside or, located on a old double decker bus. We then proceeded to absolutely shit the bed on every challenge in super quick time
I think Dave is part of the reason this series is less enjoyable as he dominated dexter (especially after they had to hold an impromptu tournament) and while Dave is fine enough unlike games world where they had the video game players to fight back in this series so little pushback makes it a bit dry
I'm gonna guess that this was actually Dexter Fletcher method preparing for his upcoming role: an alien that hasn't interacted with humans before. (On the plus side: Patrick Moore really does a good job all the time)
Paused as it starts - thank you so much for making these. I watch the new ones for the visual gags and editing and the old ones to help me sleep. Much appreciated
I don't know, I think season 3 needed to happen because Dominik doesn't give a shit when he returns and is more raw and snarky than before, and I loved it!
I’ll be back for the next video. I been your pain on this one, some of it is so cringe. How did I not notice it at the time? Loved the Soulfly cricket song.
Poor Dexter. The only memories I have of this series is finding it strange that even as a kid, I wasn't having fun, and the live episode where they ran out of time playing Street Fighter 2. And if I can remember that just before it's shown in this video, then I've spent 30 plus years filling my head with absolutely nothing of value. Still, the setting of the second half of series 3 seems more familiar. Maybe they realised what a step down setting the show in the opening of Porridge was from the oil rig.
The actual story is they lost the prison location mid series due to overcrowded prisons and so had to move location and pretend they were in the bowels which is why the tournament happened at all. The producer saving it (and himself) from going tits up
Came for the historical interest, stayed for the brilliant commentary and editing. I may have spilt out my tea at one point. Brilliant video. As an aside, the first time I saw Dexter Fletcher (I'm not British) was in Lock Stock. Thought he was awesome.
I just remember being inordinately mad that they had a bunch of football game segments as a tournament (maybe its next season, not watched this yet). Gamesmaster was my escape from a school life and brother that already made me feel excluded for not liking football, now its regularly HERE too!
Interesting fact, I was on the gamemaster show with my family as the crowd & got the gladiators autographs. After they played Clay fighters! Man that made my childhood so Fantastic :D
I can't get over how much Fletcher's presenting style reminds me of Adam & Joe's People Place segments. Gamesmaster S3 challenge: finish a sentence without being interrupted.
Oh yes, what a way to finish off the year 🤘 “How does Gamesmaster work without Dominik?”. The answer: badly😂 Look forward to getting through this. I salute you 🫡
If Dominic wasn't put off by the McDonald's sponsorship he doubtless would have been when episode 1 turned out to be a 30 minute infomercial for Mortal Kombat. I wonder how much Acclaim paid for that. I would have liked to see him hosting that episode because I don't doubt he would have snuck in some sly digs at the situation.
@dellzincht Yep. They offered him a ton of money, and DD was heavily into cocaine at the time. It's funny how a person's morals can change when money for drugs is involved.
So I was in the crowd for this when I was little a load of us all bused in down from Liverpool to Oxford where the prison was. Fun classic production tale re episode 7. They just fished the Liverpool lad out of the crowd and told him to say he'd played the "cosmic space head" game before. he then played the Japanese champion and beat him THREE times in a row and after each take the production company said "reset there was a problem we didn't get that" and essentially kept refilming until the Japanese guy won 🙈
Yep I wrote above that Danny curley bloody failed the shadow dancer challenge first time even though he owned the bloody thing so they let him re do that as well. There was a lot of this behind the scenes since they wanted a good narrative for gaming in general and better TV plus there were lots and lots of crashed naturally to be fair when it comes to this stuff given the nature of the consoles so by series 3 they had specialist consoles like development platforms etc to show off games but by their nature way less stable. They even ran straight debug versions and what would I give yo go back and cherry pick stuff out their storage
It's strange, because my memory, is that I watched this show religiously every week, but I have no memory of Dexter Fletcher hosting it. I must have somehow missed this series The first I heard of it was, in a recent interview with Dominic where he said he felt bad for Dexter kinda being thrown into the show , which clearly didn't suit him as he's more of an actor .
Been waiting in pure anticipation for this.l one! Nice one RTS you absolute legend you, I KNOW I'm going to thoroughly enjoy this one. Also merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and your family dude.
The return of Diamond's cheeky Celtic charm will be sweet anodyne after the massively irritating Cockney bollocks that was GM series 3. Kudos for enduring this shouty shite for our entertainment, RTS.
Oh, I remember being a particularly angry young teen when Dom disappeared and got replaced by loudmouth Dexter Fletcher. My loathing for Fletcher and the abysmal 3rd series didn't let up once. Nothing came close to Dom's charm and thinly veiled cock jokes... Your dedication is much appreciated to have endured watching this series and working hard to make it entertaining. Wishing you and your family all the best for 2025. EDIT: I unashamedly loved Puggsy!
Just as I remember about him doing that annoying whistle, I see him doing it but thankfully you're commentating over it (only to then mention it and replay the clip 30:10 ) and also his physicality was making me think he moves like one of the "Good Robot Usses" from Bogus Journey, so hoping that comparison crops up shortly...
I interviewed Dexter when he was doing a promo tour around bars in Manchester to promote the VHS release of Lock, Stock - he was a really nice fella. I asked him "Gamesmaster...why?" Basically said he had bad advice from his agent and doing the gig just left him with a big tax bill.
From what I've heard, he's a really nice guy but struggled in the presenting role. It's good to see he's gone on to have a successful career behind the camera though.

I really liked him in Layer Cake. Played a great character!
Just packed the folks off after three days of Christmas celebrations, time to crack open an enormous Toblerone and settle in for this epic. Thanks for the extra prezzie mate, top stuff!
Brilliant work 🎉❤ I'm pretty sure episode 1 of this series was the last one I ever watched. Looking forward to seeing DDs return for sure. Some classic games covered this series though - peak 16-bit era I guess.
It so does exist, and I know because I was a programmer on the PS1 game Colony Wars, and the lead artist Lee was the designer of Puggsy. And if you look it up on moby games you’ll find it is an early Travelers Tales game, and TT had their office in Liverpool right opposite Psygnosis ( who made Colony Wars)
I got that behind the scenes gamesmaster book for christmas a few choice bits a)jim bowen got down to the last 2 for gamesmaster and b) danny curely had not only played the game before in shadow dancer but bloody failed the first time so they gave him another shot 😂 he was told the game the week before he went on apparently and he went on the write for loaded magazine...
Series 3 was great, at least the first half. They tried to cram too much into the second half with the tournament and it was an utter mess. Series 4 onwards is when GM went downhill as DD's ego took over.
"End me now" - that single phrase sums up my views on the whole series, Fletcher is a car crash, come back Dominik!!! Another hilarious video made my day laughing.
Best thing about the series at oxford prison was my dad was on the security crew, (sarg) got free ticket. Met dexter aswell was a good laugh filming that day.
Fun House..... it's a whole lot of fun, prizes to be won, It's a real crazy show where anything can go.... Fun House..... it's a quiz, it's a race, a real wacky place, Use your body and your brain if you wanna play the game. Bless you for bringing this back to memory!
I've been waiting for this... but I must admit it's just not the same without Dominik Diamond. I was born in 1982, and I must have just blanked this series from my memory.
Commenting again at about 36mins in and wanna say the music you make for these continues to top themselves it would be really interesting to see you make one these remixes with a software that is from around the time, cheers for all the entertainment whille i been ill
Seriously, if you grew up loving Dizzy then the Megadrive version is well worth a play. It's like a 'remastered' version of all the memorable bits of the old games all rolled into one big game. I honestly believe you can do no better without straying from the Dizzy formula.
Ah yes, season 3! 12 year old me, my sister & my dad were in the crowd for episode 9 with Monie Love. I just remember all of us having to constantly look at the screen to pretend GamesMaster was actually on there and also meeting the kid who won a golden joystick in the crowd. Great Monie Love/Cool Spot mashup ❤❤
Ha ha, nah! I vividly remember getting to the taping and thinking "why is the bloke out of Press Gang here? Where's Dominik?" Bullshit series but thank you for the laughs 🤣
What an absolute treat and one of the most fitting ways to end. The banter on this channel is top tier. Thanks for enduring 10 hours of this shitshow series. Great channel.
I remember him reading that he was originally supposed to be a guest contestant, then got asked to be a presenter after Dom left. Dex produced the Eddie the Eagle film that was on BBC 1 not long before this video got posted. As much as Dex is a talented actor and director, Dom will always be the best host and this will always be his show.
In 2021 King was part of a criminal gang whose members were charged with a range of offences in connection with the kidnapping, beating, and false imprisonment of Aaron Ali in Acton, west London, in March 2020 and a subsequent blackmail attempt on members of Ali's family. At Isleworth Crown Court, King and one other man both pleaded guilty to charges of blackmail and were remanded in custody awaiting sentencing. Four other defendants in the case denied the charges against them. He was jailed for six years and three months.
These reminisces of Games Master you do are the best retro gaming thing on UA-cam that ever happened. Genius. I can't wait to see again the series where Dominik Diamond thought he'd become "Brit Pop" cool.
Despite everything, I can't help but feel for Dexter on some level. While you'd tune in for any glimpse of games back then, Dominik was the main draw. Watching awkward children and minor celebs play games badly is fundamentally not entertaining, and Dexter clearly sensed that without knowing how to fill the vacuum. Unfortunately, the hard sell of manic noise and forced enthusiasm only emphasised how shit the product was. Full marks for effort, zero for aptitude. Great video, as usual, big laughs from the cricket segment.
I remember watching that guy cheating and not winning, then getting slated by GM afterwards. Funny the little things that stick in your mind after all these years. Great vid, thanks.
Man this series was worse than I remeber. Blatantly trying to keep production costs down by giving only one joystick per show. Dominik is sadly missed also.
Fun observation: I just noticed that "Andy" who wins the date with Monie is actually Andy Collins. Fletcher is a good 6 or 7 notches down the list when it comes to what's wrong with this series, haha
@Larry
Hello you!

"I own the golden joystick that Kris Akubusi gave to the girl that lost in this series"

I think Dexter was putting Pablo Escobar's kids through college at this point in his career.
no better pleasure than watching a place turn to shit when you leave.
Series 3 is so bad that I wouldn't be surprised if British Rail didn't have a hand in it's design.
You made me do an actual lol, just like the cool kidz!
That was a megamungous comment.
Your music remixes are awesome, was laughing at the Gabrielle skit
Push ya button! That needs a full length mix!
This is like finding another present under the tree... Love these vids!
I think the most important takeaway we have from series 3 is that without Dominik, the fire is just gone from Dave Perry's loins.

Lol, the subtle editing is gold.
"Asmongold's looking well" 😂😂😂
this made me lol as well xD
Dexter Fletcher reminds me of how Craig Charles presents Robot Wars, same kind of style.
Thankfully, Dexter never created his own version of AWWWWOOOOOGGAAAAHHHH!
So, small mercies and all that.
I think he did a decent job. It’s a bit of an immature big energy style but I didn’t mind it when I saw it as a kid.
It's funny that he has gone on to be a movie director now.
Awooooogah!
At least he had passion for it. He knew nothing about gaming, though.

Once again, the music is perfect! Ak-bar! Amazing job yet again RTS!

Sixty quid for Street Fighter 2 turbo in the freakin' 90s?! Thats like eight million in today's currency.
Average house price in 1990 was £60k so that cartridge was 1/1000 of a house. Today that would be about £250.
Eight hundred million I think you'll find!😁
To sharpen peoples minds on that would have been, that is 600 Freddos!
I always laugh when people say £70 is too much for a day these days when I paid close to that for Turok on the N64 in the mid 90s.
Tracking against wage growth or disposable income instead of house prices might explain it.
Hilarious! Highlight of the week so far! Also, thank you for making series 3 more palatable.

We used to do impressions of this series in the playground. One boy was Dexter Fletcher and I played Patrick Moore.
You weren't the squashed kid were you?
I'd like to see Dominic Diamond talking with Dexter about his experience with the show, on a stream somewhere...some time... if Dexter was up for it.
Saw in the news recently the guy who was Shadow has been arrested for armed robbery
Who is shadow?

In 2021 King was part of a criminal gang whose members were charged with a range of offences in connection with the kidnapping, beating, and false imprisonment of Aaron Ali in Acton, west London, in March 2020 and a subsequent blackmail attempt on members of Ali's family. At Isleworth Crown Court, King and one other man both pleaded guilty to charges of blackmail and were remanded in custody awaiting sentencing. Four other defendants in the case denied the charges against them. He was jailed for six years and three months.
16:40 and 32 years later this is the Google Dino Run browser minigame....
Thank you for this great Xmas gift 🎁 😊
Dave's got his do-rag on
Made my Christmas complete now mate thanks for this 👍🏼😁
I love your interpretation of these 👍
Thank you for your service, this is all I look forward too
These reminisces of Games Master you do are the best retro gaming thing on UA-cam that ever happened. Genius.
I can't wait to see again the series where Dominik Diamond thought he'd become "Brit Pop" cool.
Oh, what a nice surprise! Thankyou RoseTintedpoectrum
My thoughts & prayers go out to 'Squashed Kid' at this difficult & troubling time....
Some say he's still being squashed in that audience to this day
27:49 Looks like the love child of Syd Little and Spencer from Phoenix Nights
39:01 there's so much blood and guts, and plenty of fest action violence that I wouldn't be surprised if British Rail had a hand in it's development.
Akbar was Incredibly annoying
Let's hope he was told to play the cocky heel. Otherwise he's just an insufferable little oik 😂
Deport!
Best retro gaming video with a death metal song about cricket on the internet 😂. You sir, are a genius 👍🏼
'Bring back Dominic"
A sentence no one had ever expected to use.
Enjoyed the series When Games Attack hosted by Mr Diamond. One hopefully for the future to watch with you Mr Spectrum
Yes! 2 minutes in we already have a remix!
It's Dexter Fletcher, a legend.
Legend? What for... the Rachel Papers? He's always been awful and his directorial efforts are appalling, sentimental tosh.
@newsbender conjecture isn't fact, remember that when pushing your diatribe. Have a Happy New Year.
@@lostintranslation1957 who said anything about facts?
@@newsbender
He's played some good roles you mug😂
@@newsbender exactly, your conjecture isn't fact. Your opinion is just that.
Christmas has come early!! Thank you 😃
Diamond’s filth is sure missed when compared to Fletcher’s obnoxiousness.
Thanks Rose Tinted Spectrum for making the unwatchable watchable again.
turning the banal fletcher commentary into the menswear single nobody knew they wanted was exceptional. well done.
I had forgotten about Dexter Fletcher's Gary Crowley Mockney style.
10/10 👍🇬🇧
The ADHD from Dexter is off the scale
Woohoo! Press play. 🤩
I hope Zelda is doing well. 🙏
Jeffrey dharmer in the consultation zone in episode four
😂
