People say japan is high tech, I’ve been there and I still need to carry coins in my pocket to pay for things. In China everything is done with your smart phone. I’m not saying Japan isn’t a nice place but China is definitely high tech
Japan is very old fashioned in many ways by today's standards, one thing that particularly suprise me is that, fax machine are still widely used, yes that buzzing dial tone paper feed piece of equipment.
Yeah and if you are a foreign visitor you cannot do anything with your phone. You cannot use WeChat or AliPay without a Chinese bank account and personal references already using the apps. You cannot access any of the non-communist non-Chinese internet, or even buy a train ticket from a machine without a Chinese citizen ID. You can only pay cash and many vending machines, shops and restaurants do not take cash or western credit cards. Japan is remarkably resistant to abandoning cash payments and has a few other idiosyncrasies, but it also an open, free democratic country and not a totalitarian police state that makes it as difficult as possible for foreign visitors.

as a Chinese, let me tell you that we never ever fear when we see the police or securities. I don't know why the Western people always saying that they are not comfortable when they see the Chinese police. Maybe that is your perception towards the police in your country. The Chinese police never treat the people like the American pilice do to the black.
I'm from France, it's because in the West there are many documentaries about how China is authoritarian and maybe dangerous for the westerners... Yeah i know it's dumb, because if you actually go to China, you will know that chinese cities are safer than many cities in Europe or North America, such as Paris, London, N.Y or L.A etc.
In China the culture may differents from the west. Ppl see police they feel secured bcoz they carry out duties. When ppl meet People of Liberation Army they treat them like own family members.
@Moshe Sopher Well, actually it's easier to learn math in Chinese. And a chemical formula is just a bunch of letters, not English. For Chinese, latin alphabet is just like Arabic numerals
Works both ways. U.S. (has obviously seen better days) has been shit on constantly, but has many good aspects. China (has seen both worse and better) has good aspects but bad ones too.
I visited over 20 cities in Chian, but Shenzhen is the best city i wanna recommand. It's a very safe and advanced city beyond your imagination. But the cost of living is higher than other cities which is only downside. I love Shenzhen.
ShenZhen is a great city and a lovely place to be in... Most importantly it presents the vision of the future and opportunities that lots of places in the world lacking.
I have lived on and off in Shenzhen over the last 20 years and seen its growth explode. There are over one thousand parks in Shenzhen, from local hole in the wall plots to huge parks, like your video shows the Shenzhen Futian Central Park. Your shot of Huaqianbei shows what looks to be flowered ramps. Those are the entrances to the subways (3 lines) and an underground market place. You'll find many subway market places at subway stops. Some like Dongmen are huge, selling food, clothing, and even cars. Futian also has the largest underground high speed train station in Asia with subway and buses stopping there. Shenzhen always seems to be under construction, urban renewal is common and like you said, high rises seem to pop up like weeds. The thing great about almost all cities in China is there is a price for anyone. Hotels range from 3 star business hotels to 6 star international hotels. From street food to luxury dining, and Shenzhen has a strong international flavor like Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. There is a saying: "if you stay in Shenzhen, you are a Shenzhener" meaning that Shenzhen has Chinese from all corners of China who come to Shenzhen to seek their fortune. The average age of a Shenzhener is said to be under 30 years of age. While English speakers are becoming more common, their English ends up Chinglish sometimes. English is taught in grade school and their English is better than most foreigners Chinese. Last I looked, there were ten undergraduate and graduate schools in Shenzhen. Beijing University, Tsinghua , and Southern University of Science and Technology have graduate schools. Even Georgia Tech has a campus in Shenzhen and UC Berkeley has a program teamed with Tsinghua. There were at least 10 Nobel Laureates calling Shenzhen home, last I looked. Some added facts about Shenzhen are below: www.chinahighlights.com/shenzhen/shenzhen-facts.htm facts.net/world/cities/40-facts-about-shenzhen/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Shenzhen
As a native of China, I am surprised that your views on Shenzhen are so accurate. Shanghainese and Beijingers sometimes discriminate against People from other cities but Shenzhen people don't.
well yep. It was pretty much a very small fisher village before the CPC made it an SAR. If HK is back to China at all with same currency and passports etc, the pearl river delta will be the strongest economic area on earth
@@suyesuay9813 lol they intimated 4wars with India (and got defeated in each) Osama bin Laden was killed there It's even proved in UN how Pakistan is supporting terrorists. No hate these are facts.
I have never been to Shenzhen, but I am definitely going to visit there soon. It looks like a very modern city, clean, it has everything you need, and friendly people. Would I ever live there? Probably yes, at least for a short time.
@@kikwanliu3616 yes. nothing to hide is an important point. if you don't, it's going to be the best place ever. you've literally got many other metropolises other than shenzhen nearby, so if you're bored of shenzhen (hard) you can take a train to guangzhou, take the metro down to hong kong, or take a ferry to zhuhai and macau for fun.
Thank you for the video! To clarify one thing: most "police" you filmed are actually local sercurity guards. Different uniform at all. And the policemen never wandering or sitting on streets like that. There are no that many polices to do that. As a police's salary and welfare are much better than a sercurity guard, which is not an easy job to get. Those sercurity guards do not take responsibility of political control. I don't think you need to worry about them at all. So communication is a key factor to understand another nation. Besides, all visa or MasterCard are accepted in big business: hotels, department stores, big supermarkets, big restaurants. It's just in many western countries, small business do not accept credit card payments
Cuz they don’t have guns. I grew up in China and the first tine I saw a gun was in San Francisco airport. I just kept looking at the guns the policemen were carrying and the police were looking suspiciously at me.
@@takod323 He just said that the first time he saw the gun was in the United States, I do n’t understand what you want to say? Is it not safe for the police to carry the gun?

I have been live in the U.S for more than 5 years, the most incredible thing is politicians in the U.S talking “Chinaaaa” as the election propaganda all the time . But in China, no body care about politics!!!!
the Chinese people are deeply oppressed whether they recognize it or not. China is a police state. In the US, we may see a relative decline in international influence compared to China, but at least we have personal freedom and liberties that are absolutely not found in China. We are playing the long game too

I love China, it is one of my favorite countries. I have been to Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. I look forward to visiting China again.
I went to Shenzhen last year. It was a very exciting city and will be definitely exceeding HongKong. Based on this informative video, I will visit there again and explore more and more. Thanks.

I highly appreciate you becaus of making such abeautiful video. Since 1949 China is developing day by day. Now it has become economic Kingdom of the world. Relly wonderful place introduced u to me. Thanks.
Great video and summary of a Chinese mega city. Having just recently holidayed in China I was blown away by the size and extent of westernization that has occurred since I last visited in the late 80’s.
Having lived in Manhattan for many years, watching this, I would say that it looks a little like Miami, has almost twice the population of NYC. It looks great. I could live there for the rest of my life and be happy!
This is really amazing ... i really want to visit China when i can. This was my biggest mistake of 2019. i did not give them a chance. I was very blinded by western media saying how undeveloped they are.
Thank you for this video. I am an American man who lived in Shenzhen for four years. The experience was overall positive. Shenzhen offers countless activities, an active expat scene, and proximity to Hong Kong and, therefore, the rest of Asia. The only downsides that I found included some traffic and various issues that exist in any non-Western place. I think anyone watching this should visit Shenzhen. It is truly a city of the future, and it offers a unique side to modern China.
Yes, I was once assigned to RIO & SP for a long business trip in 2014, people are super warm and friendly to me, girls are SUPER hot, Copacabana beach is just breathtaking, but it is a shame that I did not feel safe walking around in the street during the night.
My parents moved to Shenzhen in the 1980s for work. I grew up witnessing the fastest growing economy in almost all time. I’m proud to call Shenzhen hometown and I hope that one day I will move back here and start my own family. Currently work and live in Seattle WA
Shenzhen people are very friendly, my ancestors were Southern Chinese, I went to a business trip in 2018 and my business friend said "welcome home" to me, for the sake of my Chinese root :)
There cameras in China make China a very safe country. If you are not a criminal, why do you feel afraid of the cameras? These cameras make it is easy to track traffic accidents. With these cameras, kid can play safely out of door. Hope you can get along with these cameras.
Shenzhen is truly a modern new city. With a population of 12 million inhibitants and an area enough to accumulate 5 times the present size. No other other cities in the world could you find such up to date facilities as you find in Shenzhen. The city authority board has indeed did much planning to bring about what you can find today. Nice road and traffic system just like Tokyo with lighting and road signs and markings to guide drivers. The highway is free flow with no unsightly vehicles like Thailand pick-up trucks or the 12 wheels trailers. electirc scootors are kept the minimum, Buses and coaches are run by electricity. Taxis are standardized with only one made. Trees are planted around to make it like a garden city . Apartments are fully furnished to save occupants the trouble to renovate it. No wonder rich people flock to Shenzhen to enjoy a pleasant living free from the chaos of big cities.Oceon liners and cruisers could berth here. Airport also serves International flights.See Shenzhen yourself to convince you.
I was born and raised in this city. I didn't realize how high-tech and contemporary Shenzhen is until I have been to a lot of European countries. if you are interested in technology that kind of guys, Shenzhen is the paradise for you to mass around. if you are more of a foodie, this city is also known as a foodie mecca. if you are as lazy as I am, don't really wanna go hang out with your friends in a restaurant, there will be a chance for you to experience the fastest food delivery ever. True story, no gimmick here All in all, living in Shenzhen, in this hustle-and-bustle and inclusive city, really keep me energetic
Shenzhen was founded 40 years ago and has developed from a small fishing village to a modern city. Thanks to the reform and opening-up policy, Shenzhen has received many special preferential policies from the central government without historical burden. Because of its proximity to Hong Kong, it has also learned a lot of valuable experience from Hong Kong. Shenzhen has focused on developing high-tech industries and attracted high-tech talents from all over the country to work in Shenzhen. Civil servants have a relatively good sense of service, and now Shenzhen has become an example for other cities in China to learn from. Shenzhen's success has proved the good governance ability of the government and the diligence and wisdom of the people. I hope that Shenzhen will become better and better. I hope that other backward areas, like Shenzhen, can make rapid progress.
Due to the congestion busy paced life in HK, many are actually invested moving to Shenzhen geographically nearer and turning the city into a modern lifestyles. Communication and spoken language is the same Mandarin and Cantonese local dialect. Nice place to visit 👍

Shenzhen is a very attractive city!!!
as a Chinese, let me tell you that we never ever fear when we see the police or securities.
Also if you can understand Chinese, the words on their uniform means “voluntary police”
how about concentration camps built to hold thousands of uygur minorities agains their will in China? Ohh yeah, you are not Uygur, sorry!!!

Some of the Chinese and other Asian cities are amazing. Makes the U.S. cities look so old and run down.
Imagine the US government spend 100 billion more on infrustructre and 100 billion less on military each year.
In fact, the American cities and infrastructure are very old, but people's living standards are higher
I think Africa's infrastructure is probably the best in decades
Depends which US city you been to
I had customer tell me how backward she feels when ever visited Massachusetts US from Shanghai.
He’s Chinese and he’s in his own country, so it’s not a necessity for him to learn English. Please be respectful to the locals.

The Chinese are resistant, unlike some english-speaking Asian country
I agreed, many Westerners acting like a big boss owned everything. Why does he speak Chinese and respect others?
What is wrong with you people. He was super polite to everyone.
@Moshe Sopher Well, actually it's easier to learn math in Chinese. And a chemical formula is just a bunch of letters, not English. For Chinese, latin alphabet is just like Arabic numerals
Shenzhen is actually what many people perceive Japan to be (Tokyo, Yokohama etc). Advanced and innovative.

ShenZhen is a great city and a lovely place to be in... Most importantly it presents the vision of the future and opportunities that lots of places in the world lacking.
你是个会做菜的女生?
Some added facts about Shenzhen are below:

As a native of China, I am surprised that your views on Shenzhen are so accurate. Shanghainese and Beijingers sometimes discriminate against People from other cities but Shenzhen people don't.
Impressive how Shenzhen has become a leading city in technology in so little time!

It's just in many western countries, small business do not accept credit card payments

the Chinese people are deeply oppressed whether they recognize it or not. China is a police state.
