  • The longtime head of vehicle development at Mercedes-Benz about ESP, Navi, Distronic and much more!
Prof. Hermann Gaus' first task as a young engineer at Mercedes-Benz was to optimize the transmission of the 600 series W100. This urge for improvement never left him and he was so successful that at some point he was given overall responsibility for car development and so there is actually a lot of "Gaus" in numerous vehicles in Daimler's history. One of his great passions was computerization and data-supported control in the vehicle, which he was able to vigorously promote at the Stuttgart company. Numerous innovations such as Linguatronic, Distronic, CAN bus systems, navigation and much more can be traced back to his impulses. The culmination of his long career was certainly the responsibility for the new Maybach, with which Prof. Jürgen Hubbert was able to "save" him for a few more years from retirement, which will be the subject of next week's discussion.
