I love the Poor Man's Flea Market segment. It blows my mind what some people throw away! When I was a kid back in the 60s I lived in an area where everyone had a back shed. Every now and then someone would clean out their shed and I would head over and rummage through the boxes to see what I could find. Occasionally I'd try and sneak a treasure into our house which infuriated my mother. 😂 She called me a "garbage picker," a name I wear proudly.😁
My father always said, how good of a craftsman you are is how well you cover up your mistakes. Nice save on the pot. Now you can justify 20 dollars on something else. Through the years I have taken others peoples trash and turned it into cash or something I could use. You just showed a good example. One man’s trash is another man’s gold. Thank You
Love how you rescued that pot handle. I, too, get a lot of satisfaction from fixing broken everyday items that I've come to depend on. That pot was the perfect example of this and looks great and is back to full function and service.
Nice repair. The ingenuity and way you repaired the pan more than justifies having a tool shop. The poor man's flea market never ceases to amaze me. I'm glad you save what you can. Too much useful material goes to the dump.
Hi SC. From wet & soggy Holiday, Florida. I missed your last 2 weeks of videos while riding out 2 very powerful, scary Hurricanes. Powers back on at my home. Internet back up. Minor damage only for me. Others still no power, etc. Homes flooded, or gone altogether. Good news , the cold front made it all the way down here this time to cause the "big Click". All the A/C's shut off as weather cooled off. Now 80/60F Temps with low humidity. Ahh!
@@ScoutCrafter Thanks SC. Going to catch up on the videos this weekend, hopefully. Gas stations should start getting refills today. Governor giving away free gas. $10 gal at fuel depot set up for it. Stores have no perishable food until Monday at earliest. Beans anybody??? I had powdered milk, eggs, etc.and CHOCOLATE 🍫.!!!
Hey John those plastic tool boxes are an excellent find! I was trying to find those about a year ago because they are the perfect size for vehicles. Sears stopped making them and they are sold on E bay for a huge cost if you can find them. Couldn't find a manufacturer that makes anything similar. Score! Great video as usual! 😁
We were on our way (finally) when Mrs. Anderson said. "Uh-oh." With that, I should have known enough to KEEP GOING! I returned home to find the house filled with smoke, Mrs. Anderson had left rice on the stove which became one big cinder in the bottom of a pot. My sweetpea yelled." Wrinkles!", the little stuffed doggie she USUALLY carried EVERYWHERE! The smuck that I am, I nearly didn't survive rescuing Wrinkles. Later, at dinner I looked over at Mrs. Anderson, stuffing her pie hole (for a small girl she can really pack it away) and didn't get so much as "You're my hero." out of her! PS - Scout, I've found it is often quicker to use a handtool than to jig up a machine tool. Learn to file, guys!
Great projecrts! I spent my week restoring and re stringing a zither! During a hurricane with flaslights! No power for days! It kept my mind off the storm! It gives me something to remember this hurricane by! Have a great weekend!
Nice mosh today John. Your pan handle turned out nice and I have to say that was a heck of a bolt! Thank You for explaining how to clean them up. Have a good weekend and Thank You for sharing.
I would have bet $50 that you'd see some old, dented Farberware pots with perfect handles when you browsed the Poor Man's Flea Market as your original handle had the epoxy curing.
The vac brush works well, for me anyway, using them to vacuuming car carpet, it seems to knock things loose in the carpet that have a tendency to stick in the carpet, I even bought a new one, an then cut the bristles shorter on the old one to help stiffen the brush to help dig the into the carpet, which works pretty well. That bolt you found, to me anyway, was a good find. Thanks for the video, always enjoy watching.
I have one of those truck boxes full of projects. Also a lot of those Farberware pans and skillets. You need to watch for pans thrown out and grab the handles. There are piles of them on estate sales. I started putting loctite on the bolt threads. I haven't had trouble in years. Love that galvanized bolt. Although I am not fond of welding it I wonder what happened to using it these days. It was such a huge industry starting in the late 19th century. A lot of fortunes were started by zinc factories. Of course in those days they were big poluters but the need didn't go away. Every kitchen had zinc or porcelain zinc. Every bucket and washtub was galvanised steel as was your garbage can. Now we are cursed with plastic.
My mom has her original set of faberware pots and pans. The older 1970s era has a smaller logo, the size of a half dollar. The large font print is probably late 1990s.. I'm a kitchen ware collector too 😂. I've picked up replacements at flea markets and thrift stores of the Faber ware, all under $5.
Lol . I got a kick out of your vacuum cleaner brush... That's my favorite brush for vacuums.. Everytime someone throws out a vacuum, I'm looking for that particular brush.. They only include the short bristle brushes on the newer vacuums and to me they're practically worthless.. That repair turned out great.. S.C. have a great weekend and we'll see you Monday...
Three years back I cleaned out the trap in my dishwasher and took everything out to get to it. I must have pushed down the heating element because over a few washes that heating element slowly burned a quarter inch by about one and a half inch hole in the bottom of the dishwasher tub. I fixed it (with a suggestion from my somewhat smarter about fixing things brother) with a high temp J-B Weld. It's white and it worked. I think it is good by about 200 extra degrees over the gray. Heating element is about a half, 3/4 inch from the puddled patch and still holding fine after three years.
Yes! JB Weld is good for 500 degrees, JB Weld High Heat is good for 550 degrees and JB Weld Extreme Heat is good for 1000 degrees! I don’t think I ever heard anyone badmouthing JB Weld products. 😃👍

I repaired my inherited "Rever Ware" pots and pans. They were my grandmother's and just needed a few new handles and screws. They are at least 70 years old and still work perfectly (wish I could cook as well as she did😂). These old pans lasted her many years, and I'm 58 and no desire to replace them 👍
Thanks John, great show, nice repair on the saucepan, it drives me crazy how expensive spare parts are, it doesn't exactly encourage people to repair an item does it ! I've got a couple the three-way shoe lasts inherited from both sides of the family, they come in handy occasionally as a form of light anvil. I'm with your Dad, I'm also an advocate of the vacuum brushes, almost everything is better cleaned using one of those, just don't use it on anything sticky or greasy. I was cleaning up a brand new toolbox that I bought in a sale recently - it was filthy, must have been hanging around in the warehouse for some time, I used my vacuum brush along with a 2" paintbrush then wiped it down with a damp rag ! Brushes are one of those things whenever I see any at a good price I buy them, so I have a wide selection of sizes and textures ready for any clean-up, and I never throw away a toothbrush !

Nice clean ups and repair John. I would've grabbed those toolboxes too. I have a 3/4 drive ratchet and socket set that would fit in one of those perfectly.
I had a really nice mag lite. 4 D batteries. Exactly what happened. I tried everything but couldn’t get batteries out. I guess store them without batteries? Nice pot repair.
I went to Catholic school so we had to wear leather shoes...when holes appeared it was take them around the corner to the shoemaker to get halfsoles...loved the way that shop smelled...65 years ago...😱...great poormans flea market...what a neighborhood...🖖
Good video! When I first saw the pot, I thought it was much larger until your huge hand grabbed it. Those tool boxes are a good find. I would have taken them too. Thanks and have a good weekend.
I got into the kits of wire and nylon brushes in a blister pack from HF. They are cheap and I can use them and toss them if they get ragged. Toothbrushes are nice for cleaning. The electric toothbrushes are great with some toothpaste to clean brass saw nuts.
Hey !John vraiment une belle restauration du manche de cette casserole. Intéressant les deux fer pour cordonnier. La grande vis et son boulon est superbe. ❤
Speaking of brushes, do you remember the Fuller Brush Company? They used to sell door-to-door and I remember my mom buying their stuff. I still have (and use) one of their combs - it's over 60 years old now!
What a fantastic reparation of the pan Handle. Thats a graet job. And as ever I want to say, that I can not believe how interesting stuff is thrown out on Poor Mans Flea market in your town. Unbelieveble.
Perfect pot handle repair. I too love odd fasteners. Have you looked through the McMaster Carr catalog!? The things they have are amazing... Including stainless steel hook and loop fasteners!
I have 4 of those compact Craftsman toolboxes. They're great as a household toolbox or as a medical box in the trunk, or even as a small toolbox for car or truck.
I must have around 10 shoemaker lasts. Always picking them up with the intention of repurposing them as some kind of anvil, but never got round to using one.
I knew you would take those tool boxes! I finally got lucky with my local poor man's flea market here and got a nice Stanley No. 765 (2 1/2") clamp on vice from the 50's. Rusty but it is now soaking in Evapo-rust.
Great job on that handle repair, Scoutcrafter John. I have a nice set of those Farberware pots of various sizes I picked up at yard sales & thrift stores. I love them and never had any trouble with the handles getting loose, wonder why?
A man has to stand on his principles, I'll never buy a 13 dollar handle when a whole new pot and lid only cost 20..........I actually cut down a new pot and placed the handle of the old pan on it to make a new pan.........I had plenty of pots but needed a new pan.
Great video 👍 That Poor Man’s FleaMarket is Gold 🟡! I was surprised you didn’t get those metal baskets and dollies 😃. Those shoe 👞 forms are pretty interesting. Great save and clean up on that big bolt 🔩. Those bolts can cost a little 💰. Also great find and awesome clean up of those Craftsman under the seat truck 🛻🧰toolboxes. They really do l👀k like N.O.S. Now! 👍👍Again Fantastic Job!👍 That was a terrific job repairing that Farberware sauce pan handle. That JB Weld is some awesome stuff, great product and good to keep around in the shop . Did you use any type paint to cover the gray Epoxy from showing? What a awesome shot of Old Glory 🇺🇸 flying in the Breeze. Well again great video and can’t wait to see what you do on Monday. Have a fantastic weekend! 😃👍👍
Those shoemaker lasts were a nice find, great memorabilia. Too bad there are no more shoemakers around. It a dying trade. My great grandfather was a shoemaker in Italy. As far as the handle great repair but remember one thing from now on - DON’T COOK ON A HIGH FLAME!
I knew you were going to take the tool boxes. I have an affinity for tool boxes, too. Do you have the shoe maker's apparatus? Would love to see it cleaned up and mounted in the apparatus. Great video. Cheers! Jim
nice repair on your pot! you have so many different tools. how to you keep them organized, so you are able to retrieve the one you need? not sure you ever described or showed your tool organization methods?
Not a Starrett square! Looks like a recent Craftsman. Scheer Tumico made a lot of them. You should ask 357 Magdad to find you a 6 inch Starrett or Athol Machine square even if it a dirty one. he did a nice job on a Lufkin....just saying get an upgrade! Put the craftsman square in the Craftsman plastic tool box and put it in the car for emergency work.
Man, do you think anybody watching your channel is going to be put off by dusty toolboxes?! 😂. Just curious, did you add JB Weld inside the metal part?
Yes! I JB Welded all the contact areas. When I filed and sanded it down there was a little grey showing on the bottom of the handle but a swipe of black permanent marker took care of that! 😂👍
Why are so many people throwing toilets out? I don't get it there's only the inlet valve and syphon mechanism that can fail on a toilet and they are universal, cheap and easily replaceable anyone can replace anything in the cistern with a couple of wrenches in minutes.
Toilets go in remodels. Also, as we age the height can become an issue. Our house was built in 1942 and was relocated in 1975. So far 3 of 4 toilets have been replaced.
She owns a company that supplies restaurants with everything. From pots and pans to walk in refers, stoves, ovens… my favorite pan she gave me is from one of her lines- Vollrath. 😃👍

Steven- I did feel bad about leaving the bulbs behind because they aren’t made anymore. 😂👍
Gotcha boom 👍👍🔩🔩
John
Tried Tub o Towels last week
Amazing, great results on some of my projects
Wally- I’m still amazed at how they clean up tool handles! Nothing else comes close! Glad you tried and liked them! 😃👍
Frank- one big issue with the small pots and gas flame burners is if you move the pot a lot off center the flame licks the handle and you’re SOL. 🫣😂👍
I was hoping you were going to get those boxes. i would have
I knew you were going to take the tool boxes. I have an affinity for tool boxes, too. Do you have the shoe maker's apparatus? Would love to see it cleaned up and mounted in the apparatus. Great video. Cheers! Jim
Jim- Not yet! 🫣😂👍
@@ScoutCrafter Can't wait to see it in action! Jim
nice repair on your pot! you have so many different tools. how to you keep them organized, so you are able to retrieve the one you need? not sure you ever described or showed your tool organization methods?
Mark- I know it sounds crazy but I think I use the same 20 tools all the time! 😂👍
Have you seen what those craftsmen tool boxes are selling for on eBay crazy $$$
I can’t believe it!
💡Thought you were going to put a screwdriver handle on the pot or a wrench or something fun like that.
If my fix doesn’t work I might have to! 🫣😂👍
Scoutcrafter pot handle challenge!😂
Not a Starrett square! Looks like a recent Craftsman. Scheer Tumico made a lot of them. You should ask 357 Magdad to find you a 6 inch Starrett or Athol Machine square even if it a dirty one. he did a nice job on a Lufkin....just saying get an upgrade! Put the craftsman square in the Craftsman plastic tool box and put it in the car for emergency work.
Keep looking in the poor mans flea market you just might find a bad pot with a good handle.
I see so many pots thrown out it’s amazing. 😃👍
If only I'd lived nearer, I'd have left $12.99 on your porch for a new handle.
Where’s the fun in that? 😂
I got a tub of the pink stuff. I tested it on a couple things that I use comet on, and the pink stuff works way better!
The pink stuff has a slightly stronger abrasive in it. 😃👍
@@ScoutCrafter I could tell. That is what my dirty house needs! 😊😊😊
Maglights have a lifetime guarantee. If the batteries were Duracell, they will replace the light no charge.
The cost of shipping kills you. 🫣😂👍
👏👏👏👏👏
That Chinese Farberware is all junk, I have the stuff that was made in the Bronx!
I just don’t get it! Mattresses too! My neighbor has lived there since February and already has thrown out 4 mattresses! 🫣😂👍
Toilets go in remodels. Also, as we age the height can become an issue. Our house was built in 1942 and was relocated in 1975. So far 3 of 4 toilets have been replaced.
Curious what your sister does. I used to be associated with salad master cookware.
She owns a company that supplies restaurants with everything. From pots and pans to walk in refers, stoves, ovens… my favorite pan she gave me is from one of her lines- Vollrath. 😃👍
You should’ve built a heat shield for the Chinese piece of crap pot!
John- I believe Farberware cookware is still made in the USA with the exception of a few items. 😃👍🇺🇸
@@ScoutCrafter No, like I said, they close the last factory down in the Bronx!
Maglights are great, it’s the piece of shit Duracell batteries that are the problem!
Every I repeat EVERY Maglite I have ever owned (maybe 15) has failed on me. I will never buy another Maglite or Sony product.
@@ScoutCrafter I’ve had Maglites for decades, And I’ve only had a few destroyed Because of garbage batteries!
@@ScoutCrafter The mag lights are made in the USA, I’ve never heard anybody complain about them, except for you, so it’s clearly operator error!
Women are the worst when it comes to repairing stuff always telling me how many hours have you spent on that? I hate that!
