Always enjoy the poor mans flea market. Money for nothin', chicks for...😆. Great looking cleanup on the truck. Never played much with the trucks growing up. We entertained ourselves with tractors, horses, lassos', bow and arrows, electric fences, and anyting that could potentially harm us. Not sure how we survived it all!🙃
Oh that Funky Stepper Bike would have come home with me and I would have been jumping trash cans before daylight and then off to the ER! That little exercise unit is quite a piece of engineering, I like the magnetic resistance, real cool.....................Don't worry you're not the only one that likes big equipment, when I was in the steel business and we were putting a big beam into position, no matter where we were working the entire building would stop, gather and watch.
You can sit that tonka on the floor and a game controller beside it in front of a kid or young adult and see which one most will pick. I'm 47 and in early 80s toys were everywhere. Tonka , and Nylint steel trucks and I took care of them but still played with them all frikin day! I still have most in storage and hope my 19 yr old son will eventually give his children but a few yrs later on. 👍
Stacy- Nylint is still in business and is offering two newly designed vehicles however they just seem a little boxy to me… Tonka made an anniversary truck a few years back that was magnificent.
John, I don’t know why you don’t get yourself a pickup truck, pick up all that good stuff and get yourself a table at the Aqueduct flea market. It’s a good way to supplement your pension and meet people.
I agree about leaving the particle wood furniture behind. It is best to take the real wood pieces. My recent poor man's flea market score was a garden bench. It was in very bad shape (rotted wood) I cut new cedar (decking) wood and refinished the cast iron sides and back. I always wanted one for my yard.
Love the poor man’s flea market. I love to watch Tonka restorations on UA-cam. I’m amazed how many tiny pieces can be sourced like headlights! Yours came out great.
I have a whole closet stuffed full of old slides and photo albums, a whole row of Tonka trucks out in the garage (8 in all, but not the Wrecker), two big boxes of Hess Trucks down in the cellar, and I'm even more isolated than you are but unfortunately no hope of a Poor Man's Flea Market for uncountable miles in every direction... You and your uploads are always a kick ! ... Thanks much and Season's Greetings to you !
Gotta love the big machines! Back when I started my first job in the US I worked with an old timer from Motorola who always had the greatest stories. In one, Motorola flew him out to fix an issue where the Ultra dump trucks at a massive mine were having issues with their radios interfering with some of the electronics in the truck. While he was there testing, the radios were interfering with the brake system and he and the driver ended up with a runaway truck - not exactly what you want to deal with on an afternoon! Miss that guy, he retired not long after with 50 years at the company.
I wish I still had my TONKA trucks from my childhood. I did save my boys Tonkas and am looking forward to seeing my future Play with them .my first grandchild is due in February - My daughter is expecting a girl.
That was contact paper! It was fake! I would have grabbed it if it was real. It looked good from 4 feet away but up close it was disappointing. I did get .25 cents though! 😂👍
The disc on the desk cycle is most likely aluminum, when nonferrous metal passes through a magnetic field it creates an eddy current which would put drag on the disc without any friction.
The Tonka truck turned out fantastic. I like the little chips & nicks on the truck. It shows that some kids had a great time playing with it and also took care of it. 👍🏻
I am with you on the fascination with big equipment, so much so I ended up working on heavy equipment by doing in place machining and working on hydraulic systems, always said if it wasn’t, BIG, yellow, and the PARTS didn’t weigh at least 2,000 lbs, I wasn’t really interested in working on it.🙄😏😉😬🤣🤣, thanks for the video, enjoyed the wrecker. BTW, I actually helped build a heavy recovery truck with a 100,000 lbs lift capacity and a 360 degree rotation capability, it was an awesome build.
Love those Tonka toys, they really had the product and all those fine details that worked like the real thing. They appear at the flea markets in varying condition with prices to match. Present day offerings are nothing like the vintage metal models. Great videos and info this week. Thanks!
Great video 👍 That Poor Man’s FleaMarket is gold 🟨! Those nighttime walks are paying off 🪙 💰😂😂. It looked like one of those new Quarters or was it a vintage coin? That was a pretty cool elliptical bike 🚲. They have them in a three wheel version for adults , those type of bikes 🚲 can go for $400-$4000 dollars 💵. That little desk cycle was a great find and is good for your arms or legs 👍👍. Like seeing that vintage Tonka Wrecker truck 🛻🚚. Too bad they don’t make toys that cool anymore. They are just making them out of cheap plastic junk. Those pulleys were the finishing touch for that wrecker truck ✅. I think the clean up and polish also made that wrecker truck look that much cooler, fantastic job! Well again great video and can’t wait to see what you do on Monday. Have a great weekend. 😃👍👍
Great finds again on your walk John, we really do live in a throw away society, I don't adhere to this, maybe that's why I need a bigger house ! I was always a little jealous of the kids with the large Tonka toys, your truck came out great a very measured clean up ! I know what you mean about Christmas, we're adjusting again as our family changes and are a bit between generations currently as we are gradually losing our elderly relatives and the kids have all left. Christmas is much harder to do with a dispersed family, very few people have the benefit of staying local to family these days it seems !
Has to be something environmentally bad in that compound you use..LOL... Mine just doesn't seem to do as good as your 50 yr old stuff😅 Have a great weekend and oh and bonus points for scotchin' the wheels👍 good stuff Mr. John!
😂. Vic- I have a new container I will have to see if it’s the same. Polishing compound just requires a bit of elbow grease until you see paint on your rag, then you buff off. Also not for clear coat paints! (Ask me how I know) 😂👍🇺🇸
I am the same way about heavy equipment. I got to play with big stamping presses, trucks, cranes, and the last seven years of my before retirement life I got to work on the design and manufacture of armored vehicles called MRAP's. 1000 hp engines in 20000 lb, bullet resistant glass, monster tired, 6 wheel drive monsters that can out accelerate most street vehicles. Life is good. 😁😁😎😎
Another great video. That Tonka Wrecker turned out amazing. You took it to a perfect level of reconditioning. It looks fantastic. Hope you have a great weekend.
We could make a living off your neighborhood. You should have grabbed the bike for your next swap meet. Always trade for tools. I’m temped to park my truck in front of your home. I like that wax job. Great show. I believe your family is growing. Merry Christmas John
Great flea market. Quite a variety and you got paid 25 cents for your efforts! It's always nice to see your love of things from the past. I had a Tonka dump truck when a tyke and actually passed it on to my son. Like you always say "things were made to last back then". Have a wonderful weekend.
I can tell you're weren't rough on your toys! I have traumas of childhood "friends" breaking the mirrors of my electric race track cars, the day after my birthday when I got it. Completely ruined the whole racetrack for me😂 Those kids honestly had no idea whatsoever why that would be upsetting.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood! Well done on that cleaning up that Tonka truck. It is better to save the paint if possible. Your Poor Man's Flea Market should be inspiration for someone to stock up a thrift store. Every one of those items still has value to someone. As you have shown us all. Impressive, but sad to see.
The SAME EXACT people that are throwing away these nearly-new items, in working order, huge hunks of metal and plastic, are the SAME EXACT people that don't want me to drive a vehicle with a naturally-aspirated V8 or have gas-powered outdoor power equipment. John, I was betting that you went back for the 'real' bicycle, not the desk jockey bicycle :) BTW, John, all my naturally-aspirated vehicles are Toyotas!
Great video, ScoutCrafter! 👍🏻 Always interesting finds to be had at the Poor Man’s Flea Market. The Tonka tow truck turned out great for just a buff & polish job. They sure don’t build toys the way they used to! 😅
We were watching an old episode of Big Bang Theory the other day and there was a hotel scene. I had to rewind and pause to be sure but there it was! The weird hotel lamp you scored the cord from on a recent poor man's flea market!
Love the PMFM always good stuffff...Tonka l buy the big yellow dump truck for my Grandsons... were metal now heavy duty plastic...a kid and a dump truck still works...🖖
I would have grabbed that bike and handed it off at the tool show. To good to get scrapped. If you look on line you will find a picture of the Holmes first twin boom wrecker in 1916. Most of the time they were called split boom. Check out the Holmes 750 and 850 models.
If we were to ever win "the lottery", I'm buying these things- 1/2 share in a Gulfstream jet, a home in the upper VA/eastern WVA area mountains, a home in the Sarasota or Boca Grande area and a big Miller Rotator Wrecker! People ask me why I want the wrecker, I say "so I can do whatever I want".
Tonka trucks were always my favorite toys as a kid along with Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars. The looked great and this was a neat tutorial. Thank for sharing this and especially the Poor Mans' Flea Market.
Hello Flat Bastard, that L.B.E, Lower Body Ergometer (or bike) that you found can also be used as a U.B.E, Upper Body Ergometer. Since your upper body has fewer slow twitch muscle fibers (endurance muscle fibers) than your lower body, your girlfriend will burn off more calories using it as a U.B.E. because fast twitch muscle fibers use three time more energy (calories) than slow twitch fibers.
Now I gotta go to the Thrift stores and find a vintage aluminum ice tray with the pull handle on the top to break apart the cubes..haaaaa@@ScoutCrafter
Love the PMFM 😂i def would of took that bike but anyway- That Truck Clean Up was great 👍🏼 Johnny- Man that thing Is cool - thanks for the vid 👈🏼 have a good weekend I’ll call you Sunday I found 3 gems this week on the PMFM ttys brother ✅
Great show as always, thank you for sharing your talents and stories with us. You spoke of old slides and pictures, i was wondering if you have any experience with negatives that get stuck together. My wife has negatives from pictures of her father that are stuck together. He passed away years ago and i would like to separate them so we could see what they are. Thanks again for your quality content.
Love flea market. I had a few tonkas as kid . Unfortunately for me match box corgi etc. Couldn't get over it. I collected a lot. Also you had a Honda 450 ? I bought one new in 1972 and is in my garage still. Needs to be redone from sitting . Next to my gas pump from the 50s. 😁
Congratulations! Lots of great people on the air, my favorite ham activities were the “special events” contacting them while they were portable then getting a special certificate. Try it out! 73’s N2STX
I feel EXACTLY like you do, I am NOT a huge fan of this time of the year either!!!! Too many GREAT family and friends are gone now!!!! It will NEVER be the same!
My tonka toys didn’t survive my youth. I know what you mean by this time of year. We had mom’s funeral last December dad’s been gone three years now no grandparents and most of the aunts and uncles are gone. Now I’m the old man of the family at 66. 😮
You could have taken the curio cabinet, dismantled it and salvaged all the glass/mirror/hardware, etc... to use in your own curio cabinet that you could make from real wood. Right???🤔👍😀
A pal and his son had a B-85 Mack ex Ky. coal hauler with a Holmes 800 wrecker on the back, twin boom. Had to let the booms down to back it in their shop in town. And did you ever see any CCC trucks? Stood for Crane Carrier Corporation. Just had the small cab like the tonka but a real truck. Had some here years ago with dump boxes on them. Happy weekend and God Bless Yall!
I've got to drive a couple, both with Thermodyne motors probably 185 horses, the other 711 cubic inches, non-turbo, One was a dump and the other was toting an old Schram tub compressor well rig. Both were duplex's or 2-stick 10-speeds but the well rig splitter didn't work so it was just five with a bad air leak. The other had 10 but no good motor supports and the tranny levers and motor would lay over to the right when taking off but ran and pulled good and was a joy to shift both sticks at the same time with one arm stuck through the steering wheel to shift the splitter or hji/lo. Steered like a dream with parts falling off them. Both were 1950 models. Drove some old rigs that had 5X4's with a lo-lo and 3 split gears for every cog in the main box but the B-models were special 4 sure!@@ScoutCrafter
Hi ScoutCrafter the twin booms must have been for heavy trucks and equipment maybe for extra power. I have never seen that I used to work on a lot of heavy trucks and equipment. It does exist or did I find examples on google.
Got to speak up for Dyson. I mean what 21st century vacuum cleaner isn't total plastic? They all are. I tried to repair an iron once and discovered it was clearly snapped together to prevent disassembly. That's not the case with Dyson equipment, which is held together with screws, which does allow some repairs to be undertaken; and generally they're better made and last longer. Bet that one in the trash would have worked again. So unfair on Dyson, other than that great video as always.
As a vacuum aficionado and long time trash hound I can honestly say Dyson products are for the most part Trash. I find more Dyson vacuums in the trash then you could imagine. If you go to any real vacuum store and mention Dyson they will all roll their eyes. I took apart three of them and they were all made like junk. Plastic EVERYWHERE! The Dyson desk fan was an absolute joke and the biggest laugh was the most ridiculous Dyson hand dryers for restrooms. 🫣😂. Needless to say I’m not a Dyson fan. 😂😂😂👍
Totally random question here, but as a long time follower of your channel I thought you might be able to help with this.... Dean from www.youtube.com/@WoodworkJourney is trying to find a 5/8” left handed Acme thread approx. 12tpi to repair an old table saw. He has apparently tried loads of places - any ideas where he might find one?
Hi John loved the comment about the dyson invented here in the UK and the worst hoover ever made personally i use a shopvac miles better and steel bodied and very little plastic keep the great videos cumming and have a good xmas
John! It would be hard not to go twenty minutes ragging on that 💩 company! I loathe Dyson as do most people who ever owned one. My biggest pet peeve is how Dyson thinks he is reinventing the wheel with every failure of a design he comes up with! 🫣😂👍
I’ve picked a couple out of the trash and fixed them, but the price of them is insane and you figure at that cost they should never break, but they do! The other real joke is that they all need filters like every other vacuum!
You folks out East, seem to have higher quality discards than what we have in the Midwest. I envy your flee market walks.
Not sure how we survived it all!🙃
Electric fences are always exciting! 😂👍
Bicycle "jumps" built out of a piece of ratty plywood and some concrete blocks...
@@thooks1234 Right on!
56 And still have all of my Tonka trucks, semis, trailers, and cars. Nothing ever wrong with that. I dont ever want to grow up.
I used to love anything with a trailer! 😂👍
Hey I noticed today you sure resemble the head coach for Armys football team. You should put a side by side of you and him up.@@ScoutCrafter
Cant believe you found real money on your poor man's flea market walk. Love the Tonka truck too 👍
What kind of a maniac doesn't love big machines? That full size Tonka was awesome!👍🏻
Big I beams don’t receive the praise they so rightly deserve. 😃👍🇺🇸
The Poor Man's Flea Market has been amazing this month. Nice job scooping up that exercise bike. Cool job on the Tonka truck also!
That elliptical bicycle would almost be worth a round trip ticket to NYC to get it.
I remember there was another brand called Buddy L. As smart assed kids in the sand pit we’d call them Bloody Hells.
🤣🤣As a kid who grew up poor, I knew the Buddy L toys were the cheap knock-offs. Had many of them.
John, since you introduced the poor's man flea market section all the findings have been amazing
You can sit that tonka on the floor and a game controller beside it in front of a kid or young adult and see which one most will pick. I'm 47 and in early 80s toys were everywhere. @@ScoutCrafter that’s funny! 😂😂
I agree about leaving the particle wood furniture behind. It is best to take the real wood pieces. My recent poor man's flea market score was a garden bench. Love the poor man’s flea market. I love to watch Tonka restorations on UA-cam. I’m amazed how many tiny pieces can be sourced like headlights! Yours came out great.
That tow truck brought back some old memories, we always got a new Tonka for Christmas when I was a kid thanks again for the trip down memory lane!
Oh My! Runaway massive vehicles equal huge pucker factors! 🫣😂👍
I'm always surprise to see what you find there in the streets. I probably would have taken the stepbike with me. Unbelieveable, Great video
I wish I still had my TONKA trucks from my childhood. I did save my boys Tonkas and am looking forward to seeing my future Play with them .my first grandchild is due in February - My daughter is expecting a girl.
The curio cabinet must have been quarter sawn press wood! Lol!
That was contact paper! It was fake! I would have grabbed it if it was real. It looked good from 4 feet away but up close it was disappointing. I did get .25 cents though! 😂👍
I'm always amazed at the treasures you find during your walks.
The disc on the desk cycle is most likely aluminum, when nonferrous metal passes through a magnetic field it creates an eddy current which would put drag on the disc without any friction.
The difference between men and boys is the size and cost of our toys. Good Luck, Rick
Great show, thanks for the shout out! Hope you enjoy the mini flashlight, the least I could send you for the efforts you put into the show.
James- Thanks again! I used that flashlight the other night putting air in my tires. It’s much brighter than you would think! 😃👍🇺🇸
The Tonka truck turned out fantastic. I like the little chips & nicks on the truck. It shows that some kids had a great time playing with it and also took care of it. 👍🏻
Great job John. Very cool tonka truck. I'm amazed at what people throw away. I like that 9 volt flashlight. Have a great weekend .👍👍❤.

This can be a sad time of year 🥃 🤔
My tonka toys didn’t survive my youth. I know what you mean by this time of year. We had mom’s funeral last December dad’s been gone three years now no grandparents and most of the aunts and uncles are gone. Now I’m the old man of the family at 66. 😮
Gone but not forgotten. One day hopefully we will all be together again. 😃👍
You could have taken the curio cabinet, dismantled it and salvaged all the glass/mirror/hardware, etc... to use in your own curio cabinet that you could make from real wood. Right???🤔👍😀
Those pressed wood cabinets look good from a far but are far from good! 😂👍
Love the Tonka truck. Came out really nice. I just pitched one of those cheapie desk bikes out.
Paul- The cheap models are ok but not smooth. 😃👍
Lewie- I’ve always had a love affair with those B Series Mack’s. Just beautiful! 😃👍
I’ll ask Bruce if he ever had one. I think it might have been for specialty work.
As your Girlfriend's Brother-From-Another-Mother, how do I get on your "Poor Man's Flea Market List", ? I need an 80's Craftsman Jigsaw. (wink wink)
I’ll keep an eye out! 😃👍
I had that Tonka Wrecker in Blue
What a great truck!
Judging by the quality of items you find on the Poor Man's Flea Market, you can tell that times are tough
In my area the stuff I find are from people moving. Always look for the “House for sale” shingles! 😃👍
What aGuy!
Usually there is one place that has unusual items like this- www.mcmaster.com
@@ScoutCrafter thanks! I'll pass on the info, much appreciated 👍
I know what you mean about losing family members I kinda makes me want to do less in the shop I wonder what is the point.
Pete- That’s normal, however when you finish a great project there is a sense of satisfaction that really feels great. 😃👍
Nice free money opsss sorry...Nice flea market stocks...My bad,sir...
Was that Papa smurfs hand?
Yes! 😂
Shame that bike couldn’t go to someone less fortunate
Hi John loved the comment about the dyson invented here in the UK and the worst hoover ever made personally i use a shopvac miles better and steel bodied and very little plastic keep the great videos cumming and have a good xmas
Kevin- I have a real distain for Dyson, their motto should read “Twice the price and Half the Quality”. 🫣😂👍
Half the quality lol there is no quality its plastic crap@@ScoutCrafter
Maybe you can do a rant on those Euro trash, Dyson vacuums!
I have to say I do like your rants, they make me laugh!
Since you always liked big trucks and equipment, maybe that’s why you drove a giant bus?? 🚍
Probably so, we did have a huge tow truck that would tow the busses that was huge when together! 😃👍
