The town looks interesting, but I have this to say about St Charles. For about 40 years, I have lived in St. Louis, maybe 25 miles away. I have probably visited St Charles fewer that 10 times in all those years because there is no way to get there without a car. There is no public transportation in St Charles or between there and here. I remember back in the 80's there was rush hour express bus service but that has been gone for years. St Charles City and County are the most populated area of Missouri lacking any form of public transit.
Some of the history behind that lack of transit options in St. Charles is rather embarrassing if not shameful. In the late 80's and early 90's when the initial phase of the region wide Metrolink Light Rail transit was being planned, the concept included going out as far as at least downtown St. Charles. This did not happen due to what was basically a racist backlash. I clearly recall Mayors of some St. Charles County suburbs making threats that folks from the city of St Louis would be taking the train out to St. Charles to break into their homes and steal their t.v.'s and carry them back to St. Louis on the train.
Love "main street" cities. Just take away the cars and add the horse and buggy. If I ever make it to Missouri, it will be on the bucket list

I wonder if there is a more voluminous brick road anywhere in America? it was in really great condition to boot
