great speech and this sentence "As you go down the path of life, ask what's true, not who else believes it!" is something that every student in every school and university in the world should start their day with!
And that statement is the exact reason why Maher was the exact right person to give the commencement at this time in history. Everything he said was so on the mark. I get that Maher can be very smug, arrogant and likes to call stupid people stupid. But, the real reason people don't like Maher is that he unapologetically stands up for what he believe,s no matter who else believes it. He doesn't care about being unpopular...in fact, unpopularity is probably his measuring stick for if he is on the right path or not. Society can't stand people who don't need their approval or is unaffected by being unpopular by the feeble minded.
Thanks so much for posting. I tried to record on my iPhone, but ran out of memory, so I'm very happy to get this! I was impressed by Bill's speech. He did a great job. My husband saw a few silent protesters, but I felt the stadium as a whole enjoyed this commencement speech, as you can hear by the applause and laughter!
Way to go Bill. I can't believe people think this guy is closed minded bigot. Its these same people that think there's nothing wrong with a business refusing service to somebody for religious reasons.
Only closed minded bigots think that...the moment people begin to sign petitions banning some one who is speaking the truth, be sure & understand that that peoson has a very sinister agenda, which sure is going to destroy you.
Great commencement speech. Really silly how a religious faction at the University tried to prevent the most precious of values: free speech. **This is UC Berkeley**. When I think of innovation and free-thinking, I think of UC Berkeley. When I think of intolerance, I think of Liberty University. Kudos to UC Berkeley for not backing down in the face of intolerance (unlike Sony Pictures...)
There is a local saying in my part of the country I grew up in, those guity of malpractices of any kind are the first ones to make a noise about stopping people who "are not doingf the right thing" because they are very afraid of being discovered & recognised fro who they really are. They don't want their facade ripped off. They are afraid of facing any one who does not agree with them, for they do not have any decent point to discuss...they are not about discussion, they are not going to let any one ask them questions that they don'tt want to answer honestly, for that will uncover their "naqab" & "hijaab" & unmask & reveal their real face.
Although I don't agree with his anti vaccine crap and overly sucking America's cock, I agree mostly with him and great speech overall maher. Gooe job. And wtf were those "protestors" doing?. There is a time and a place. Morons. but censorship is what u get with the people with a persecution complex
Thanks for recording/uploading this video :-)

My favorite part of the speech as well! Well done Bill!

Poonam Abbi What? Can you translate that rambling bullshit into English please.
Religion is moronic! He says the people who want to exclude someone for speaking the truth have a very sinister and destructive agenda.
Now don't those protesters look foolish
