Stewart it was my birthday yesterday and I received my first ever guitar, an electric guitar. Did you read my mind? this is exactly what i needed!!! thank u so much stu :0
You’re free to have your own opinion. I would tell people that beginners keep their volume and tone at 10 all the time. What helped me the most was chucking the pedalboard in the closet, and playing directly into a Princeton reverb with the volume and treble at 10 and using my guitar volume knob to clean up, and using my guitar tone knobs to roll off treble. This really taught me a lot as a player. But to each their own.
THANK YOU about the angled pick!!! I worked that out on my own early on, because my pick kept sticking and sounding like clunky crap; but I kept getting told the 'proper' way was parallel, despite aaall evidence to the contrary. Glad to finally be vindicated. ❤
Also thank you for the where-to-strum notes, because now I know that it's different from accoustic, where the best place for sound is in the middle of the string length, for most vibrato. While on the subject of techniques that DON'T carry over to different instruments, classical guitarists drape their arm over the body of the guitar, so the hand is pointing nearly downward; but you can't do that on an uke (even a baritone), because the instrument just isn't big enough, so there's no point. And don't get me started on the conflict between how blues players strum/place fingers versus classical players---! Just putting all this out there for anyone falling into the Mass-Confusion cracks between forms out there...
Yeah, I can think of one more influence on tone: the venue you're playing in. As a singer, I can tell you that the accoustics in my shower are brilliant, but singing outside...not so much. ...I mean, unless it's at Red Rock, or something.😊
the dark muddy tone with the neck pickup along with the tone knob lowered is not very ideal for many rock genres or when you use a lot of gain, but it you play something like jazz with a clean tone, then it is very useful to get the sound you want.
Hi Stuart. This was a very clear and helpful video. I have one question: you mentioned electric guitar strings can last up to a year but in what way should you maintain them. Mine are on for 4 months and there is some rust/gunk on them. How do I avoid this, or is this not a big issue? Thanks again!
It's from oil and sweat from our fingers that start to dirty/corrode the strings. My instructor told me the best thing I could do, was right after I was finished playing to take a microfiber cloth and just wipe down the strings to maximize their life. Some strings you can buy that has an anti-corrosive coating on them to preserve them a bit longer. You can still play with old/dirty strings, it will just dull the sound in my experience. Which I suppose will directly affect your tone. Hope that helps!
Hey again Stuart, I was thinking if you could add a song called Worldwide by Adam Again into your guitar tutorial list, I think it's a nice catchy song with both electric and acoustic parts
Stuart, If you’re reading this would you be so kind to do one of your wonderful tutorial videos for BMX Bandits - Rimbaud & Me. Can’t find anything anywhere. Cheers!
Im fairly a newbie and I bought a electric guitar yesterday and got an extremely basic amp and im just not getting that linkin park hybrid theory\meteora tone despite having the tuning to dropped c# and it was so disappointing.
Why my amp got static tho😭its a squier. Do I need a better amp? I can lower the static if I mess with the settings, like turning down the volume or bass. The gain doesn’t affect it, but the treble does if I turn it down/up significantly.
Can you teach us the pretender by foo fighters, feel good inc by the Gorrilaz, Amsterdam by imagine dragons or god put a smile upon your face by Coldplay
An electric guitar noob here but that means OverDrive I guess and it adds gain to the frequencies. It is basically what an amp shud do? Increases the amplitude of the signals? Overdrive is what u are hearing when u listen to the Punk songs?
Thank you Stuart I’ve just been spinning the dials on my amp blindfolded and hoping for the best
Real😭
Same bro😭😭😭
i love how we all just go through this shit together
@@colerichardson20 i know its so awesome

I just got my electric guitar a week ago I needed this
This man right here understands what beginners need and what they should consider important, thanks!
Uncle Stu i just got a Stratocaster a few weeks back and I've just been messing around but now I'll actually understand stuff so your an angel 🙏
THANK YOU about the angled pick!!! I worked that out on my own early on, because my pick kept sticking and sounding like clunky crap; but I kept getting told the 'proper' way was parallel, despite aaall evidence to the contrary. Glad to finally be vindicated. ❤
I don’t understand why this isn’t common knowledge!
Just order myself a left handed ibenez and a Marshall amplifier, thank you man for the tutorial
Ibenezes are decent li'l guitars! Good tone for the money. I had an Ibenez Mikro, loved it.

STUART THANK YOU FOR THIS
More than a tone knob, i would say that the one on the guitar is more of a gain knob, bc it's the signal entering the amp. Great video btw
was not expecting a tolarian community college reference at the beginning of a stuart video 🔥🔥
