Thanks for the video. I did the mod and can tell the bass and mids are about 15% more pronounced. The treble seems to have tamed some which makes it lose some of its sound stage, but at the same time some songs the treble was too much. All in all I don't think I'd do it again as I have an 8" subwoofer hooked up. Only been listening at low volumes for 15 minutes though so maybe when I get to turn them up some more I will hear more bass and mid power
This is awesome, I didn't do the front facing panels as that was a little too much work but I got so much more clarity around 90-120hz and they're less shrill and harsh than before. Everything sounds more balanced and smooth, really nice mod
Very nice but use a work bench or safe surface, don't ever work over your legs and privates with those tools. Sweat pants can bind up on drill and knife can slip and slice your legs or stomach. Ive seen things happen in real time and its not pretty. Great upgrade to the HS5s though.
This plus the JS mod might be great! Basic mod should be to cut off the limiter and cleans up the bass. To further mod the HS series, I'm looking into replacing all 6IC's. But that might be overkill lol...turn a tuner into a supercar basically
02:48 What is the top part of that tube in the lower right corner of the video frame? The one that looks like a trumpet. I bought a used pair of these speakers and that part is bouncing around in there. Is it an easy fix? I'm trying to figure if I should fix it, or just return it. I got them for $110 so I'm hoping to keep them. I haven't opened up the speaker yet.
Hi, how big is the tweeter on the HS5? The reason why I'm asking, I'm wanting to buy a pair Yamaha tweeter speakers #YE744A00 (from Yamaha or other stores), but I don't know if these are "4 inch" tweeter compression driver that are bigger or smaller. There are no specific specs in internet. I have a HS8 and I know, mine tweeter are 5". If you can tell me, it would help alot. Thx.
@upstairsbasementclt everyone shows the same spec and picture from manufacturer.: i.e., Silk dome tweeter on 1" and 5" on the woofer. But they can't tell me if the tweeter is size by "diameter across" (i.e. 3.5" or 4" or 4.5" or 5"). Honestly, I'm trying to replace my old Alesis Monitor One tweeter (4"). I hate Alesis' tweeters. They are too dark and I want Yamaha's tweeters.
i had a set of these about 10 years ago, noticeable lack of bass, but i felt confident with translation. i recently borrowed some after not having them for a long time and maybe they were worn out but they sound really bad, severly lacking any kind of bass whatsoever, like they were out of phase. i checked the phase of course. even the best commercial recordings sound like doo doo on them. I know the original speakers they were more or less based on also had a reputation for sounding like ass too, but they are a staple for translation checking. i'm wondering if there's something wrong with the power supply or the woofers need replacing, but no bass under 100hz.
@@upstairsbasementclt yes i mean is the woofer is magnetically shielded? like if i put the speakers close or near to CRT monitor it will affect the monitor some speakers equipped with magnet shield to prevent this problem some aren't, i want to know if the yamaha hs5 equipped or not
@@upstairsbasementclt do they have strong magnetic field? around a speakers? im kinda worried it will affect my laptop and external hard drive because i always put them on top of speaker
I’m not an HS5 expert. I wouldn’t be able to give you a for sure answer. I’d try and look it up on Reddit or other forums on google. I don’t want to mislead you!
Great breakdown - but please my man dont use knived and drills as the platform for your knives and drills. Also shouldn't use a drill for something as fragile as those speakers as you can easily over torque those screws.
I like. Good job, Man. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!

Felt the same, don't drill on the lap. 😮

Hi, best thing to do is look up “Yamaha HS5 Tweeter replacement”. Did you try this?

@@upstairsbasementclt so, I'm assuming you probably no longer have your HS5, right?

then yeah something is wrong
From where you bought the woofers?😊
do yamaha hs 5 magnetic shielded?? cant find this information need to confirm this before buying
You’re asking if the woofer itself is magnetic?

@bolulembut1132 they use large magnets in an advanced magnetic circuit design
