  • This video is based on several talks I gave a few years ago at the Algonquin Park Visitor's Centre and the Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound. It describes what life was like on Algonquin Park's Canoe Lake in 1918, a year after Tom Thomson died and during the 1918 flu pandemic. It describes the difficulties getting there, the surrounding landscape as tourists and Tom Thomson saw it, community economics and job opportunities, who some of the key residents were and of course insight into key healthcare issues at the time.
