- It's finally here! The long awaited secret base episode! I hope you guys like it, I put a lot of effort into getting it out quickly while still making it a banger of an episode. I hope I delivered.

@@Dylxan327 Gen IV actually did a lot of early rock and ground Pokémon some justice so a Onix carry actually sounds pretty hype NGL.
In Emerald, if the first Pokémon in the player's party has the ability Swarm the regularity of cries from wild Pokémon in the overworld that can be heard is increased. I like how I can hear the Pokémon like im one with the Pokémon world and its nature, topical considering the theme of Hoenn. It’s a nice way to be immersed, even if it’s a small detail

My favorite mechanic is the special ability synchronize. If a pokemon with synchronize is in the lead the wild pokemon are Guaranteed to have the same nature as that pokemon. great episode Dylxan

CQ: as someone that has played competitive before my favorite hidden mechanic is of you have a Pokemon with Flame Body in your party it halves the time it takes for an egg to hatch. Makes the grind a lot less tedious.

Actually the ones with holes aren't useless. They're investments. There is some sort of wood bridge you can put over them. You can get them from the rooftop clearance sales at the department store announced in the news (apparently only after beating the League)

Great special video😎. Cant believe he fell for the May's bedroom hiddden base people told him 🤣. I think Joe did a good job building his base really simple yet cozy looking with plushies and a chat table. Surprised he didn't make a spot for Bush. For the question my favorite hidden mechanic if you can call it that is ehen you use dig in one of the caves to uncover a hidden passage to access the Reggies in emerald. Its been a minute since I played emerald so sorry if I worded it poorly. I enjoyed this special and I'm excited to see the presidents take on the league in the finale. It'll be epic and intense. You have truly outdone yourself with this series and your dedication as a creator shows with the captivation these videos have. I will definitely watch the final episode and will congratulate you on doing your absolute best with the series. On a personal note I finished dream radar and started my Pokémon black 1 playthrough and already ready to take on Elesa. One thing you could try that I haven’t seen other channels do is have each player control two Pokémon instead of having them each fight two elite four plus the champion. So when their mon is out, they are in full control of the game and have to decide when to tag others in. Could lead to some interesting teamwork, or lack of…
My favourite, but not really a secret mechanic, is being able to get a bunch of held items from match call replays. I got the whole collection for each type of move. For example you get the Dragon Fang, which isn't purchasable or naturally findable in RSE, from the Dragon Tamer in Meteor Falls. You get the items by using Thief on them which is wild, stealing their items lol.
If you use Sunny Day, you don’t have to wait an extra turn to use Solarbeam, it fires instantly.

I’m not sure if it counts as a hidden mechanic because everybody knows about it but, Flame Body to speed up hatching eggs comes in super clutch.

Also, my favorite hidden mechanic is Illuminate. In battle, it does nothing but outside of battle, you can encounter shiny Pokémon. Plus, I like how Joe puts a Skitty in the center of a Kecleon circle.
ehhh nah the gen 4 secret bases were kind of weird and to me they lost their charm after their introduction in gen 3. Also to my knowledge illuminate just increases overall encounter rate, does it increase shiny rate too? That would be news to me for sure

Honestly, Compund Eyes has to be my favorite overworld mechanic. Having higher chances for wild Pokemon to have items is such a boon.
that's true that was huge for optimizing competitive teams back in the day.
30 degrees is 1/12 the total angle of a circle, so 6m is 1/12 the circumference. 6x12=72. Circumference = 2Pr (IDK how to type the Pi symbol). 72/2/Pi ~= 11.46m (edit since Dylxan likes Pi (freak), ~3.65Pi m). I showed my work here, meaning I didn't just type it into a calculator like a lazy bastard.
My favorite hidden mechanic in Pokemon games is probably the 1/256 chance to miss in Gen 1. That, along with the many other broken RNG mechanics, means that no battle is ever unwinnable and should always be played out. It truly reinforces the idea of always trying and never giving up. Sure, it can be frustrating in competitive play, but relying on unlikely RNG is not a consistent winning strategy, anyway.
I wish I can pin this because I like this answer so much more, but unfortunately you weren't the first to get there. I'll do more of these in the platinum series lol I'm a math teacher so this makes me happy. Also I love the gen 1 miss. I saw something really interesting about that once. It was a clip of pokemon stadium, where swift missed. Which makes no sense right that should be impossible. But in that game, apparently, for swift, they just run that 1/256 AGAIN if needed. So in that instance, someone got boned by a 1/256 followed by a 1/256 that was supposed to fix it. Which is hilarious to me. I remember watching the clip, but haven't been able to find it. Lmk if you ever see something like that. fun stuff. thanks for the comment!
@@Dylxan327 I had read about that Swift mechanic while doing some research on how Pokemon Stadium works and differs from standard RBY. In RBY, the cartridge games and official RBY OU format, Swift does not make an accuracy check, but instead always hits. Including during semi-invulnerable turns provided by Fly and Dig. In Stadium, it is as you described, making it worse in Stadium with a 1/70225 chance to miss.

My favorite hidden mechanics are probably the ones related to eggs.
Flame Body and some other abilities half egg hatching time.
Giving a parent pokemon an everstone will guarantee passing its nature to the eggs.
Foreign pokemon increase egg shiny chance.
Dittos can allow male parent pokemon to pass on their ability including hidden abilities.
I like Pokerus as a hidden mechanic. Gotten it a few times over the decades in a couple different games
My favourite mechanic was in Pokemon black and white when you walk the drama can play with their music in the background.

So I think it is only Gen 3, but if your starting party has the ability vital spirit or pressure, you are more likely to find a higher level Pokemon.
But I don’t know if it is useful in Gen 4, but in Gen 3, if you have an egg, have someone with magma armor or flame body in the party to decrease the amount of steps needed to hatch the egg.
Also, are you planning on doing the Battle Frontier? Sceptile would have benefitted with the move Thunderpunch.

14:47 I still don't know why some bases are like that. Is that area meant for decorating or is there any way to bypass that? Doesn't seem like we could get there but they all make good bases if it wasn't for that.
well those spots can be filled with a wooden board that becomes accessible from clearances from the department store, which happen every now and then after you beat the elite four. It's kinda weird, but it's cool I guess lol.

fax flame body and magma armor are clutch for that. I always catch a slugmaballs just to make sure I have that available. And you also have to press B every time the ball bounces off the ground when you first throw it at them come on now.
