Great discussion. I'm learning to make JA chairs with hand tools after building furniture with power tools for years. It's hard to get past the mentality that a small mistake ruins the chair.
There's that old rumour that the legendary japanese potters behind ming vases finished them off then gave them a tiny tap while they were still wet so they didn't look sorta uncanny ... Never knew whether to believe that one, but if someone made it up I can see why!
