Nyx explicitly made a deal with the Lucii in order to defend the city and only lasted for one day AND it cost him his life. Noct's bloodline is able to use the ring continuously.

luna's bro motivation is reasonable in my opinion and it was clear in the movie , he's blaming Regis cause if he didn't come with noctis the empire wouldn't have come to slaughter everyone suddenly plus regis abandoned him when he begged for help , true regis couldn't do anything else but watching him taking noctis and grabbing luna and ignoring everyone even tho he has awesome king powers is like betrayal to him since all those ppl died JUST to get regis

I think Ravus blaming Regis for his mother's death is kind of a cover for his real agenda. I definitely think he's peeved at Regis because he believes he abandoned them when the Empire attacked Tenebrae, but I think Ravus' long-term goal is to gain the power of the Lucii so he can destroy the Empire himself. After all, General Glauca tries to cut him down when he picks up the ring, which kind of indicates he wasn't supposed to be doing that.

Nyx got to use the ring because the spirit of Regis convinced the other kings to give him a chance.
Any Rando would've died putting on the ring.
In this specific scenario Nyx simply wasn't "just some rando"
He was the one the last king put his faith in.

I feel bad, cause it seems like Buns, like most of us, were looking forward to this game, but doesn't realize the huge development hell this project has turned into. Nomura isn't responsible for anything in this movie, or most of the changes made to FF15 as a project currently, including Luna, or any of the other major characters or even the plot.
He had been ejected by the higher ups of SE years and years ago, and what is currently FF15 is written by the dissidia 012 writer, Tabata and a whole slew of completely different people than those who were working on Versus, or even were at the announcement of FF15 at E3 3 years ago.
Presumably, the higher ups at SE and Nomura were at odds on how NOmura wanted to do 15, and so they got rid of him pretty early, placed him(and Nojima) on FF7R as compensation, and put Tabata, the writer of dissidia and a large amount of other people in order to mold FF15 into something that could be shipped as quickly as possible.
The entire reason this movie exists according to Tabata, was because they wanted to throw out a shit ton of plot points that would not be covered in the game because it would have made the development of the title too long and lengthy to fit everything into it. So Buns, i'm afraid your going to have to get used to the possibility that this game may be a mess in regards to structure.
And to make it worse, the movie was not even written by the people who are making the game right now, and the designers of the characters in this movie are completely different from the character designers on the game as well, the movie was outsourced to another company entirely, with Tabata overseeing the script written by someone else and visual works doing the CG rendering. The director of the movie itself was the lead CG animator on Advent Children, but he didn't actually direct or have much to do with the actual conception of the movie besides rending the graphics.

    • @MrInuhanyou123
      @MrInuhanyou123 7 років тому +8

fabul0u519 Well that my friend, is cause it is.
If the game comes out and is even decent with how many issues that have come up and changes its gone through over the years(cutting, editing, staff changes, development problems, whatever else), that will be seen as a success in my book.
I say that because usually, when games like that traditionally come out, they are roasted for being shit, cause they generally are shit after being in development hell for so long and torn apart and re-pieced together constantly on that level.
All i can say now for people who have not been keeping up with the title development is, don't go in with 10 years of expectations, or a particular image in your head of what the game is supposed to look like, and you'll be fine.
I think as long as the developers can present a game with an illusion that the game is consistent and doesn't look like a game that is pieced together like a puzzle from many different parts, it'll be ok.

MrInuhanyou123 Oh, is that why the designs looks so fucking generic in this then? I know this is somewhat superficial but I really like the clothing design in FFXV, it looks like high fashion and it blends really well with the concept of a fantasy world with high tech. I found that in the movie the clothing was overly complicated and exactly the opposite of what made the design in XV attractive, it's generic fantasy stuff with useless belts all around, kind of like the only thing the designers actually understood about the original was that they used a lot of blacks and whites.

    • @MrInuhanyou123
      @MrInuhanyou123 7 років тому +8

dot Kiarika Yeah, that's why. The designs of the clothes based on medieval fantasy for the movie were not Nomura's designs, they are infact, not even the designs of the character designer who was brought in for 15 after Nomura either.
They are another person who specifically worked on the character designs of the movie and only the movie in isolation, and none of the game devs worked on the movie.
Hence why Luna looks like a different person entirely than who she looks like in the game and Ravus looks like a different person and all these other people like Nyx and whoever else look like they should rather be in Assassin's Creed in terms of clothing and character design than Final Fantasy 15.
When Nomura was working on Versus, he wanted everything to have a specific singular style that blended together. That's why Stella always wore that designer skirt and shirt combo, why Noctis and friends always wore the Roen designer clothes they wear to this day, and why all of Noctis's family including his dad(who looked completely different in Nomura's design) wore designer suits as well and were designed originally as a Yakuza type family rather than generic fantasy.
Even in the current 15 game, a lot of things changed from back then, but the Kingsglaive movie really threw out a lot of the little visual identity that was left and just made it something entirely different.
On some level, i think its fine. This is not Nomura's Versus 13, or even Nomura's 15 as he wanted it to be. The current developers on the 15 project and all its related merchandise don't have an obligation to follow Nomura's vision, or the vision of the people who worked on the game at that time. They should be prioritizing how to take what they've got right now and make it into a decent or even good product.
But it doesn't stop me from feeling like a lot of the choices that have been made for the final iteration of the 15 project don't mesh well together

I want to thank you for saying this. I feel so much about this and more.
I don't think it's as serious. I honestly think Square Enix was stuck in a rut where they needed to pump games faster, and Ffversus13 was compensation.
Also I'm so happy that someone else is expecting the ff15 to flop in some way.

I agree with you on almost all points, aside from the ring... thing.
I like the fact that Noct has to be found worthy rather than him just being accepted for being prince.
And I also like that, that combination is what allows him (and those truly chosen) to be able to use the ring freely without (currently visible) consequences.

  • @always_serpico
    @always_serpico 7 років тому +28

Nyx being able to use the ring isn't really an issue. Think about what you said, anybody with a good enough heart can use it. Let's be honest, I doubt more than one or two people would ever meet that criteria. But it does clash with the whole miracles come from more than magic theme though. But with everything wrong with the movie, I can overlook all of it except Tubby. He really was the worst.

They kept saying "Oh, you can experience any of the 15 Universe without seeing the rest," but Kingsglaive seems like an entire series, minus the last episode, crammed into one movie like Jupiter Ascending. It happened with Spirits Within. It happened with Advent Children. Square's writers just don't know how to tell a story in under 30 hours.
The movie wasn't completely bad, but it didn't hold my attention. The story was just a frame for cool action scenes.

You make a good point though with Nyx's home. It would be interesting for us to learn about it with Noctis, so he could have development, which I think would be more beneficial to the plot line than if we had a quick flashback of Nyx's childhood.
With Noctis so socially distant from what we've seen, I think seeing the poverty line of his kingdom would be tremendously grounding. If they get it emotionally right.

I interpreted that scene with Luna jumping completely opposite. In that pure powers don't make the real difference but determination does. Because Nyx with all his physical prowess and power didn't do it, but Luna's determination was what moved HIM into jumping. It's more about teaching Nyx the right mindset (which is important later when he loses his powers and would have probably given up without that lesson earlier.

No. Because she’s immediately saved. It would’ve been more impactful if she somehow managed to land unscathed. Maybe they should have made the jump from not such a dramatic height, but still put in the potential danger of missing and falling to her death.

Okay... Libertubs and Crowe both have terrible voice actors. But they are both great characters, both used to great effect. Libertubs is angry because Crowe was handed over to the Empire and he blames the king, thinking the king is a coward who handed over his citizens and their loved ones in order to save himself and his royal bloodline. In reality, their Glaive leader was a double agent and he sicked the other Glaive, who died from the ring, on her for political reasons we never really find out - but it explores the importance of perception, and calls Nix's blind loyalty into question.
Which leads me to Nix's massive character arc. It seems to end where it begins, but its more coming full circle than not changing at all. He trusted the king, but for the wrong reasons. After Libertubs quits the Kingsglaive, his trust in the king is thoroughly shaken... Once he confronts the king his entire perspective is changed... and he literally tells Luna that what she said helped him realize his new perspective. Earlier he was asked what he's fighting for by his superior, who later on fights him on behalf of an ideology he rejects, and he answers that he essentially just goes with the flow. He ends up fighting him and states his newfound beliefs plainly, that he's not just fighting because that's the only thing he has going for him, he's fighting for the future the king believed in and died for. He found a purpose and fought and died for it. That's colossal... that's paramount. Not static.
The bloodline is still a thing. Nix dissintegrates at the end of the fight because he's not of royal blood. He physically can't handle the power, they gave it to him because he was cool with that and was willing to pay the price. They asked him to choose someone to die because he needed their life force to weild the power. And the king vouched for him, so he's not some Joe Shmoe.
Back to Ravus... the whole thing about people siding with the Empire is that King Regis is perceived to be corrupt. People in Insomnia sympathize with the Empire because they have an idea that the king is someone who shouldn't be in power and the Empire is right to dethrone him and can offer what Regis allegedly took from his own people to surrender to the Empire. It's a solid motivation. The glaive who tried on the ring also believed the Empire would establish peace in the wake of Regis' alleged corruption.
The armored glaive leader guy was waiting for his glaive underlings to be out of his way and a climate muddled enough that he could get away with killing the king. As you could see, it wasn't exactly easy. If he didn't have an army to distract the king's forces, he wouldn't be able to fight them all off, including the lethal glaives. Nix was able to hold his own against him without magic, so taking on a number of them with magic would have been a bad idea. We don't know if the king could withdraw his power from the glaives that betrayed him, which would lead to complete slaughter of any insurrectionists.
I was ecstatic when Nix got the powers. That was perfect for his arc. I don't think it would make much sense for Luna considering she'd just die, or have to go against her own character to use someone else's life force to weild it.
I think it's a great stand alone film. Surprisingly, not that much carries over to the game. I can only think of Ardyn and Luna motivations, and everyone who wore the ring was one of Ardyn's puppets in the throne room at the end for some reason, including Ravus and Nix. A lot was just completely ignored.
I was kinda sad when Noct couldn't use the lightning bolts and shields when he got the ring in the game. I would not have used a single other weapon after that. That's the real missed opportunity. That would have made the game for me. Shame.

  • @sentimeter233
    @sentimeter233 6 років тому +23

You're right, I definitely would have preferred if Luna had jumped from the dropship and stuck the landing without Nyx's help, it would have made her point about not all miracles being made from magic. And poor Crowe, I think she should have had Libertus' role in the movie instead. That being said, I think I disagree with you on the exclusivity of the ring of Lucii; I think the point of Nyx being worthy is to demonstrate that even the "immigrants," the people of the lowest social status and worth in this universe, can still be worthy of the power of the king if they are pure of heart and wish to protect the future, and all that. It shows me that anyone can take a stand and be a hero and be an integral part of saving the day, and I find that really empowering. I'm a sucker for that kind of hero, rather than the "chosen one/prince with a destiny" hero such as Noct (no disrespect to Noct, I still like him a lot). I just personally find it more relatable, it makes Nyx seem like the Joan of Arc or the Zack Fair of the FFXV universe. I guess Kingsglaive is like Star Wars Rogue One in that way.

  • @kikedragoon

    Great video! 2 notes though;
Luna's Brother, Whathsisface, saw King Regis go into Tenebrae thus attracting the empire, Regis runs away while Tenebrae is conquered and the queen dies, that is why he hates and blames Regis, and he's kinda true, it doesn't makes sense that he hates it more than the empire, so you still have a point.
The General guy is not general to the whole of Lucis, he's leader of the Kingsglaive; a much more smaller unit, so there's not much of an opportunity to sabotage Lucis.

Libertus (a.k.a. "Tubby") is actually my favourite character, though I will admit that that's partially because I have a thing for big burly guys. Regarding him being a "pill addict", I guess you likely forgot about how he *got his leg crushed by a boulder in the opening battle scene*, causing him to need crutches and *painkillers* to still go about his duties.

Oh Buns, I'm with you on the Crowe thing but unlike you, I cried when they did the thing. Tears of disappointment. When they released several character descriptions for Kingsglaive, Crowe was there and I was "oh look! She seems cool" Her description was something like "An orphan and considers the kingsglaive her family" and thinking about it now, it would've been nice to see her reaction to the betrayal like??? her family betraying her AND her new home...

Oh and about the Luna thing, I really didn't like how they had said multiple times that she was going to be a "strong female character" but then it felt like Nyx was holding her back in a way? I get that Nyx was the main protag but Luna is the key character! I ended up thinking "Oh he's dead! now Luna won't be held back" And since he's dead (? i dont know with square anymore) it would've been nice to see Luna do something on her own to look forward to other things she is capable of in the main game? I have rambled I am so sorry but ughhh

I agree that luna's 'not all miracles are magic' was not done well, but the scene where she jumps out of the plane I actually quite liked. She wasn't just jumping like an idiot, she jumped because she knew that nyx would jump after her. I though that scene showed a very keen understanding and manipulation of the people and the situation by luna which was actually quite subtle. Overall though she was pretty pointless throughout the movie.

My problem is Nyx needs to power up with the help of literal gods to fight the other "armor guy" (no name because spoiler). Then fight happens and it's epic and he is going to die in exchange for using this power, but he barely holds his own and barely wins.
Considering who the other guy is, why is the other guy so damn strong? He's not going to die, he didn't have to make a deal with gods for strength and through the whole movie he's like an unstoppable Terminator.
What gives!? This bugs me! XD

Nyx was blessed with the magic from king Lucis so it would make sense that he could be worthy of wielding the ring of Lucis. And I think this movie's purpose was to set the stage for the game, explaining some lore, history, or just a simple explanation for things that we don't get to see in the game. There's a few inconsistencies between the movie and the game, but that is expected.
I watched this movie after chapter 1 of the game, so I saw it as supportive material not canon material. Like the 5 episode anime, it just added to the experience of the game.

Let me just say I fell in love with Crowe from the moment I saw her promotional artwork, so having her die so quickly in the movie was pretty upsetting :( As you said, she had so much potential and how they talked about her being an orphan with no friends until the Kingsglaive just twisted the dagger for me :( Her death was also random, like they just found her somewhere in a pile of trash?? If the guys cared about her so much why didn't one of them join her on the mission? Her being sent out alone was somewhat of a red flag, but I was like "Ya know what? Crowe is a strong independant woman who kicks ass, she should be fine, and she drives a motorcycle. She's going to meet the Princess and it's gonna be a hella regal gesture when she gives her that hair accessory 💖. Then Square just crushed my dreams. Just WTH guys??" Libertus being the only Glaive to survive was lackluster and I don't like him either. :/ The movie was pretty aesthetically, I loved Luna, and Crowe of course, but a lot of other stuff was confusing and I didn't feel much of a connection to the others outside of the two above and King Regis of course.

I feel like the importance of the ring wasn't lost since Nyx still dies from using it, the Kings just pull some strings to keep it from being instantaneous. However, I like the idea that bloodline shouldn't be what decides if you're the special or not and that it should be tied to your willpower or something. However, that would clash with a lot of the themes and lore in FFXV, so I would like that theme, just somewhere else.

It's nice to see someone who enjoys Advent children as much as I do. I get why it gets some of its hate, but it's not a horrible movie at all, especially the Complete version (though they did remove the part where Cloud kicks the door, which was cute and funny. Dammit Square WHY!)

  • @blueserenity7

So much yes on what you said about Luna. There was wasted potential with her both here and in the game. In the movie, I was getting this really bad vibe of "let's let the princess be cute and try to help and then have the hero do all the work" and god, that rubbed me the wrong way-- if not for how outdated that seems, than just for how overdone it has been in movies past. And it was just really unclear why she was worth protecting, other than her status. Of course, playing the game, you know that she's the Oracle and has the power to commune and forge bonds with the six gods and helps Noctis reach his full potential through all of that...so where the hell was all of that detail here?? Even a small mention of what her eventual role in the game was about to be would have given some weight to her character in the movie. Without it, she was kind of just there, complicating things that would have gone smoother without her.
As for game Luna...also meh. Beyond frustrating that she was literally advertised as being the female protag of the game, and SHE WASN'T EVEN A PLAYABLE CHARACTER. She seemed very similar to Yuna in FFX, who tbh I wasn't allll too attached to either, but not in your party and with less screen time. (I know I'll be flayed for that but trust me, nostalgia makes her seem more developed than she really was.) Luna was more or less just another angelic, flawless, tragic sacrifice, and there were sooo many missed opportunities for some development of not only a more human side of her that fought against her fate (assuming that communing with the gods was going to kill her even if Ardyn didn't--that's how it was starting to look), but also meaningful interaction between her and Noctis, as adults. But due to whatever they had to cut and maybe even stuff that never existed in the first place, we ended up with a shell of a character, content to "stand beside" Noctis and accept death instead of questioning her role, taking matters into her own hands, and fighting for a different outcome, maybe even for Noctis, too. (I mean, if Ignis can put on the ring, take down Ardyn, and get healed by the crystal in an alternate timeline, maybe their fate wasn't as set in stone as the base game made it seem.) With all of that, I wouldn't mind if she still died, because at least she would have tried.
So tl;dr: I've never had this much of an urge to write a comprehensive fix-it fic for a video game movie/female character, but here we are.

I thought Kingsglaive Luna was so much more interesting and strong than game Luna...
edit: I think Luna didn't end up being saved by Nyx a bunch of times, for example the jumping out of the ship part: She knew she wouldn't make it her self and Nyx wouldn't take her where she needed to be, so she basically forced Nyx's hand by jumping and forcing him to save her? It was determination, she was ready to basically manipulate Nyx to get her there.

I know this video is a little old but I wanted to share my thoughts. I actually really liked this movie, better than I did the actual game of FFXV, mind you I haven't played since it first came out so I haven't gotten to play with all the new updates but I really liked the character of Nyx. Even named my chocobo after him in XV. The movie almost made me wish we could have had that game with nyx, crow and hell even tubby in the city doing urban things instead of in the country with Noctis. But that's just me, glad you made this video, I've been enjoying all the content you have made so far.

For what the movies worth I like nyx. Really.
He's the embodiment of not loyalty to the king but the place he now calls home. I dig he has some contradictory with other glaives pissed about the peace treaty days after their massive withdrawal that almost wiped out the order. But NYX's motivation skim pass the white knight loyalty. He did doubt and question the king but he just forced himself to people it people...he lost his home and the undeniable faith of the monarchs competency. But he got a home and a family now after the empire burned it. He's motivation is clearer throughout the movie of self sacrifice on anything that's a guarantee for his people's homes and future. He's not blindly loyal nor indoctrinated to absolute loyalty. The man has his ideals shaped but keep it together and ravus their general fully realize the other side of nyx that he's barely bottling up with soldiers stoicism. Ravus is pissed about his people's future uncertain that he would rather betrayed the kingdom if it meant his people could be at peace and place called home

i love final fantasy. and i'm super excited for XV. but my biggest beef with this universe, including the kingsglaive movie, is that this world so far is extremely sexist! there are NO strong female characters anywhere..
we have Crowe who does nothing and is murdered in the movie at the beginning. Luna, whose sole purpose is to marry the prince Noctis, and who is useless and just causes problems for Nyx and Regis and is the catalyst for the fall of insomnia. and finally Cindy who is a stereotyped country girl who just fixes your car and shows off her ass and boobs the whole time. not to mention, your main party is a bunch of dudes the entire game...
when are we going to get some strong female characters? are there any?

I just watched this tonight and honestly, I had fun with it. Went in with really low expectations and no real prior knowledge of XV's story outside of the few demos we got. Good story, cool action scenes, overall pretty good and I don't feel ripped off.
The one complaint I have is so stupid and minor that it's almost meaningless to mention. But the post-credits scene with Noctis and the gang was the only scene that they decided not to lip sync in English. It was so off-putting, like they just couldn't bear to let us see how these characters looked speaking proper English yet.

Female characters are getting no love and it's so frustrating. Tubby should have died. Crowe was amazing in the few minutes we saw of her, I would have liked more from her. And Luna, my God you see the potential there but each time it's taken away to feed it to male character. She should have worn the ring. The king was the best character.

To me, the movie was just... okay. The special effects, action, and a lot of the acting from the main characters were pretty good. However, I did have a lot of issues that you had. The numerous fades to black, Luna being portrayed as a dumb blonde, Crowe needing more screentime, the awkward editing in some parts, and especially the villains motivations. I get the motivations but the way the film portrayed them was just stupid. While I'm don't hate the fat guy (I think his name was Lambartus), I was repeatedly annoyed with his character. One thing I did enjoy about the film was it's emotional moments. I feel a lot of those were done right. Even though Crowe didn't get a lot of development or screentime, the characters' reactions to her death were very realistic and heartbreaking. It was enough to make me shed 1 or 2 tears. I liked Nyx's death. He died honorably like most hero characters do and it was fitting. The most emotional death however...has to be Regus. Having finished Brotherhood before watching this, I was already in love with his character as a father to Noctis and this film made me love him as a king in general. He's the type of king I'd love to have ruling my land. And when he dies, the emotional impact is perfect. The music, the CGI, the acting. I was bawling so hard. Overall, the movie was okay. Not bad but not good either. I'd give it a 6.5 - 7/10

I wanted Luna to be the main character. I actually wanted her to be kind of a schemer type playing a five dimensional chess game with Ardyn that no one else was aware of, so later after everyone thought he killed her she could pop back out of the woodwork like 'PSYCHE.' I wanted her to be the real power behind the throne, and she and Noctis put up this front as a storybook king and queen at the end but actually Luna is running things, and Noctis is just chilling out with his husband Ignis.

The Demon or as it's probably spelled "Daemon" is the Diamond weapon :].
For Crow's death scene; When it cuts to black after the van it goes straight to a tv cartoon with something before thrown into the back of a van and carried away. The thing in the cartoon is also a keychain(whatever they're called for phones. Phone chain?) on her phone. I agree though Crow was a waste and it seems like they killed her off to make Luna the one and only "strong" female character which is even lamer.
I think Luna didn't try to wear the ring because it seems like she doesn't want to rely on magic. Her line of "Not all miracles are made with magic" fits with that so if she wore the ring and got the magic power it would kind of undermine that principle more than they did earlier in the movie.

I put some thought in what you said about having anyone with a good heart to be able to wear the ring of lucii. King Regis basically gave him a recommendation to the past kings to lend him power because he trusts him and if it weren't for that he should have been dead. Despite of having been lend the power, it wasn't for free and he does die. Also I think Ravus is double agent.

  • @mezmezzy1870
    @mezmezzy1870 7 років тому

First point about Luna's broski, he understood that it was under wartimes, his expectation was that the King had a responsibility for the people under him and therefore blame him for being the first to run without even trying to save anyone. The ring had a points attached to it as well, the first and most apparent is the fact that it was highly protected, so no average joe could even get his hands on it, second was to show what the bearer of the ring has to face when he or she puts it on. Also, the other guy died because that was the deal, not a part of being "rejected" because as the scene would tell you, he wasn't rejected, it was part of the contract for the ring's power.
Second point, the intro of Kingsglaive was very well done since it shows the warfront. It seems similar to Type-0 and that game showed war so well. But yeah, the movie should have focused on the people on the warfront instead of the politics which already had enough focus on the game given the main character was royalty to begin with. The entire Kingsglaive was under shown and focused on the whole movie. Crowe and Tubby were both underfocused on, as well as all the motives for the traitors felt under-represented. Especially the homes thing since NOTHING about that was shown. The focus was completely off.
The general was there for a while, but also note the KG was a fairly new unit, and the King wasn't shown to be completely weak either, so he couldn't handle EVERYONE, unless he had a bit of help from the Nifl side. And it's kinda weird you liked the King since he was boring as fuck and the reason the movie felt like the clusterfuck was. Then again, I actually liked Tubby, and his pill addictions was painkillers Buns, his leg was broken and shit hurts, its painkillers. And I felt Tubby character and actions make sense, or at least helps correlate the traitor's motives.
Luna didn't feel too bad to me, she did what she needed to do and she did what she did of her own accord. She was desperate and it showed well. And Luna is a dingdong since she was a sheltered princess that never had faced such situations before. And even if she got the ring, she wasn't trained for combat and watching her fight would make even less sense.
Nyx is a lot like Zack fair, and he needed to be that since he was the other main focus of the game. He never had to be a royal member, he needed to be "worthy", which was established by the brotato's arm burning off with the questions. Nyx could have traded the life of one of his "friends", but he was established as "hero", and he was.

hehe yay so I'm not the only Advent Children nerd! XD The whole time I was watching Kingsglaive I could not follow the action scenes at all. The teleportation gimmick is used so frequently and so jarringly that it's almost impossible to track who's fighting who and where certain characters are geographically. It really contrasts with AC's action which although it was really fast and over the top by its own right, it felt a whole lot more fluid and easier to follow.
Too often did the 'camera' zoom in obnoxiously on all this blue pixel crap making it impossible to differentiate between debris, buildings, living giant statues, flying mosquito creatures and the characters.
When the action slowed down it was entertaining enough but at its default speed I just thought it was really poorly executed and couldn't hold a candle to Cloud Vs Sephiroth in AC.
great video as always, can't wait for more for beginners vids!

    1) Actually I do believed the Ring is the main plot for the Main Game too! 2) Cause the Ring in it self is the only thing that can Summon any God to Aid them in any Fight & as Far as I can tell in that trailer for FF-15 Reclaim Your Throne, you do see Nostis put on the Ring!!3) The Gods in that Movie already said that they only want People with the Kings Blood to used the ring & anybody not worthy would only get the Instant Death Sentence like a Normal soldier working for the enemy & I do believe you are half right about that other fella Luna Brother only loss his Arm mainly because he just wanted that power not for the enemy but just for himself but the Gods did not like him & nothing to prove for it under his weak words then the Gods just took his arm as a result as you might say!!!4) & If you are worthy of using the Ring but don't have the Kings Blood then you will die in 1 day, the part where the Gods ask Nyx that he should sacrifice his one of his closest friends in order to used the power of the Ring but I would think this Act too would only give him 1 day God Power!!!! 5) Gods don't help for Free just for any one, also I don't think that Ring has all the Gods on it either like Nostis himself has to go out into the world & find more of them Gods to give him even more power!!!!!6) Well that was my 2 Cents.. hope it may of clear some of the Bugs in your Minds!!!!!! :P

The biggest problem with this movie, none of the characters I could attach to. Nyx was generic, Libertus was unreasonably written, and Crowe was boring. Luna and Regis were fine but given too little screen time. The action was okay, but the war scene just felt dumb. Like, no one in the Lucian Kingdom uses a fucking gun? No wonder they're losing so badly. It just felt so run of the mill as a Final Fantasy film and that's a shame, because it's attached to my favorite Final Fantasy game.

A lot of people are getting hung up on Ravus' motivation but when faced with trauma people can do many unexplained things. Regis brought Noct to his homeland for healing. When Ravus underwent this trauma he could of focused on that fact which he would blame Regis.

What bothered me the most is that they hired these big voice actors to voice some of these characters, but they switch it up for some no name in the actual game, and they don't sound remotely similar. For example: Luna in the movie is voiced by Lena Heady (Cersei from GoT), and her face is modeled to fit the voice she has, and in the game she's voiced by Amy Shiels, and her voice is softer and her in-game face is modeled to look smoother to match that voice.
They don't sound or look very similar and you couldn't be faulted if you confused them for two different characters for a while. King Regis gets away with it because he has so little screen time in the game, you don't notice or care all that much. But at that point you have to wonder why they didn't just hire Sean Bean to voice him for his whole 10 lines in the game.

If you've seen the TGS Trailer you'll notice Ravus now has a MT arm. Like you I assumed he died and when I saw him holding up the chocobros...single handedly hahahahahahahhahahahaa ahem...it also showed him with a shiny new magitek arm. I guess the Lucii kings spared him because he is royalty but punished him for not being worthy? Not sure..we'll know more when we play the game.
**to add the monster thing is Diamond Weapon from FFVII lol..and Crowe I think has a huge significance..I've watched the movie several times and I noticed that in most scenes associated with Crowe or mentions or pays homage to her (Nyx unpacking her stuff) is all tied in with an OCTOPUS (Ultros summon from FF games)..her cell phone lanyard, the drawing on Nyx's fridge, the cartoon of an octopus being locked up in a van just after it showed the traitorous glaives pulling up to her in their van. WHAT REALLY got me was when Ultros seem to have been protecting Luna or trying to take her away from the Glaives..it didn't appear to be a threat to her it just held on to her and was just killing the Glaives off. MY Theory is that...somehow..someway...Crowe is Ultros or has some association with the summon beast. She was betrayed by the Glaives could not trust them her goal was to extract and protect Luna...looks like she was trying to protect Luna from the Glaives that murdered her. Square is well known for hiding these little details in plain site and it takes multiple play throughs or views to catch it all. Kingsglaive sets up the current plot of political war and as well subtly teases there is something so much more going on that we the viewer and player aren't fully aware of..and we'll find out Nov 29.

my thought on Crowe's death (this is only my theory though) :
King Regis ordered Drautos to deploy a glaive to infiltrate Tenebrae and escort Luna to meet Noct and friends. Well, being a Captain he is, he told Crowe about the mission and send her off. BUT, being a traitor he is, he knew Regis' plan and tries to stop it by sending Luche (also a glaive and traitor) to kill Crowe. Luche shot her, this was hinted when Luche told Nyx "All Crowe could do was scream when one (bullet) tore her insides apart"
I was frustrated by Crowe's death at first but then I watched the movie again and put the pieces together so now I am less frustrated about the movie.

I streamed the movie a week or so ago and I think it's just fine. I'm used to Japanese anime type storytelling so those plot twists didn't bother me much. What I liked is how actually Nyx was initially not worthy to use the ring, but he basically bargained with the old kings for it, so they be like "ok, I guess you can borrow our godlike power for the big final throwdown, but then ya got to die". It's not that he was worthy, he just made a good case - lend him the power or the city is fucked.
The way the movie handled its females, though? For shame Squeenix. Killin ladies off screen like that. Could have at least shown her go out swinging, but I guess this would have spoiled the dramatic reveal. But then again, it wouldn't because it would be ok for the viewer to know she died, that doesn't mean the characters know that, so you can still have their reaction to it.
and is it just me seeing it like this, or was Luna basically relegated to "plot device trophy waifu".
Still, the plot mostly makes sense and the movie justifies its existence as a 2 hour prologue for the game and even kind of works on its own to some extent.

I'd love to know your thoughts on this movie now that you've played the game.

I kinda have the feeling Tetsuya Nomura hates women or at least hates female characters. In the entire FFXV franchise, there are so few female characters and the most of them are either way badly written or you forget about them the moment you don't see them anymore on screen and it's even worse in the KH franchise.

I feel like you should revisit this after having played XV 💜🖤 I didn't actually watch this until I'd beaten XV myself.

Yeah one of the things that confused me when Nyx was being judged was that they weighed his worth (whatever that means) and decided he wasn't worthy. he said 2 sentences and they were like oh okay you ARE worthy. Like they didn't weigh his soul or past actions and just saw how he acted in the moment?

Id love to see you do a retrospective of the entire franchise and hear what you think of Mingsglaive after having played the game.
From my view my bones to pick are that Nyx’s facial expressions were surprisingly plastic compared to most of the characters, why were they fighting for a town on a bridge??? Also where tf is that in the game? Crowe is straight up FRIDGED and Luna is constantly being treated as a fluffy bunny to be taken care of (she’s an oracle, its possible she foresaw all of what she did) but thats it, thats all the character development she has is in Kingsglaive. The entire series in general is such a sausage fest it drives me crazy (Yeah Ill go there-it toes the line between being fun and being misogyny especially after they killed all the women’s DLCs.)
I didn't appreciate there being so little character overlap aside from the main cast-Luna, Ardyn, and Ravus are in the movie while the general??? I think is in the game??? Where the form was Cor ?? I gritted my teeth a lot. It was pretty cool visually and I did feel like some things were explained in that square woo woo kinda way. Nyx woke up the guardians in the wall when he bitched them out for doing nothing while the city was destroyed; him putting on the ring had its confition and considering he was only using it for the country and BAHAMUTS STUPID PROPHECY i understood why he gained access to its power (without wearing it I guess?)
This should all have been incorporated into the game, it was just kinda a waste of time to milk more money out of a franchise they desperately needed to cash in on.
Oh also Lena Heady doing a light girly anime girl voice was a bad choice. Literally any other female regular on GoT would have sounded better than her.

and about the ring NO ONE can use the kings of lucious power or whatever it's name except royal bloodline , as for nyx he was given a small slither of it because he had strong heart AND made a good argument as in if they didn't help him the bloodline will die and all of lucious ....plus regis interference and putting word for him , so yeah he would never have had this lil power without regis
