The choreography for Ardyn's cutscenes was just fantastic. He was already high on my list, but after this he's probably my #1 favourite FF villain. For all of its shortcomings, Ardyn is where the better side of XV's writing really shines.
+Zela Morre Ardyn was my least favorite part of the game because of his bizarre interactions in Act 1, and still kind of is... but his attitude in Episode Prompto and Ignis was a bit of a saving grace. When he put his fedora on the soldier I busted out laughing and I ended up showing it to my wife... she was far less impressed. I'm a god damn child.
I always defend Final Fantasy XV and will continue to do so because the core experience to me felt amazing and totally worth the 65 bucks. So I bought the season pass happily and it has been a rollarcoster of disappointing (Gladio and Comrades) to amazing (Prompto and Ignis). I have to say, even though I understand how massively expensive XV was and I was very understanding on paying for the dlc, I kinda wish they waited another year and charged more for the game with all this content, because then it would have gone from great to masterpiece. When I first played and finished XV I adored it, but now, looking back, I realized it could have been more, with all this on the base game I would have declared this my favorite game of all time. So I have clear mixed feelings: I'm happy this content is out, but boy I wish it would have all come together sooner
pablozky21 I feel the same way. I love this game to bits but if they were to release the game now there wouldn't be nearly as many people complaining. In a weird messed up way, waiting for the dlcs is the best part. It's like anicipation of what is gonna happen lol but yeah still would have been nice to have all this done like a year ago. BUT I will not complain because they could have just stopped and did no dlcs so for them to continue to upgrade it is very nice of them.
Considering XV was a 10+ year project that was announced right beside FFXIII with hints that they had been working on it all since Dirge of Cerberus. Square really has zero excuses for what they shelled out. This is not the kind of product we should be encouraging and while that band of sexy men had great stories. I still can't condone the DLC, strange controls, or the shortness of it all given the project was promoted as being HUGE. Nuuuuuuupe!
On the alternate ending bits and how it wouldn't actually change anything... Ignis stated his intentions, he wanted to save Noct's life and forge a way to not make him have to sacrifice himself. He chose to give up his own life for Noct and he was given the ring's partial power, same as in the canon ending. When you hit the wall where it fades Ignis can "risk" his life to keep fighting with partial and just go blind. Nothing changes... But if you sacrifice he gets the ring's full power. It even states he's forging the contract to save the king. He's paying Noct's price but since he's not true blood he can't wield the ring freely, which is why you only get 4 minutes to kill Ardyn. Ardyn is defeated, and I think it's safe to assume that doing so has serious effects on the starscourge as well, since he made the contract that basically changed the course of fate. Thus, when Noct comes and takes up the ring, being chosen by the crystal, he makes the plea to save his friends. Noct takes his 10 years, Ignis gets his scars, but the price of blood was paid between them rather than fully by Noct and they both get to live while driving out the starscourge. When Ignis appears before Noct on the throne it's day time, so somewhere between arriving and Noct taking the throne dawn rose again like it does in the original ending. That was just my interpretation though.
The switching definitely needs to be fixed. Having to wait 5 seconds while the battle rages kills the flow of combat and my interest in switching characters unless I really want to.
Two things: 1) You clearly see the Crystal healing Ignis in Chapter 3, Verse 2 when Noctis ASKS THE CRYSTAL TO HEAL IGNIS. 2) Ardyn is the embodiment of the Star Scourge, because he absorbed so much of it, ergo killing him permanently ends the Scourge. Ignis severely weakened Ardyn during their fight in Verse 2, which means Noctis wouldn't have had to use all of the power of the Ring to defeat him, meaning his life didn't need to be sacrificed. Cheesy and convenient, sure, but the ending still makes sense.
The reason Noctis had to kill himself to end the StarScourge is because he had to kill Ardyn's ghost, which was constantly being reanimated into a mortal body by the StarScourge.
I also heard (I'm way too lazy to go back and replay the game to look) that when Ignis gets healed, you can see sylleblossoms showing up implying that Lunafreya's Oracle healing power influence or whatnot.
It makes as much sense or more than the original. People can say it's contradicting how the starscourge works, how Ardyns immortality works, how the ring and the crystal work, how the chosen prophecy works...but the fact is none of that was ever explained so no contradiction is going on. In the main ending Noct gets told he must die so he goes and kills himself no questions asked from him or any of his so called friends: nowhere is it ever explained whys or hows. None of the minimal info we knew was changed by Ignis's actions.
I like to think that it's how he asked for the crystal's help between the two endings that altered what happened. in the main game it was "Give me the power to rid the world of The Darkness" or something to that effect. He rids the world of darkness, paying the price in the process. In the Episode, he asks it to help him protect his friends. Well even if he saves the world, he can't exactly protect his friends if he's dead, so......At least that's how I feel it is anyway.
It might also be that Noct accepts his destiny or what have you much earlier than he does in the main game. Ardyn goes on about Noct needing nudges, etc. for Ardyn's own plans. But what if the crystal/former kings of Lucis were judging him the same way?
I can't believe anyone bashes the alternate ending for being a mess. The whole game's plot was a mess from the beginning. It's not like it got any messier. They could add on 15 alternate endings, and it wouldn't make a difference at this point.
@@zelamorre1126 the storytelling was a mess but the actual plot was actually good. you need to do too many things to get the full picture: watch the anime, watch kingsglaive, play every dlc, play the royal edition, read a bunch of lore, etc.
So the reason I think and yeah this is SPOILERS IN BIG FLASHING NEON LIGHTS that Noctis did survive in that alternate ending was due to him seeing that vision from Pryna and knowing what it would lead to (Noctis dying) but because he wasn't blinded in that final attack and was fully healed now he focuses on ways to help prepare Noctis in a way that doesn't result in his death. This is seen in the credits with Ignis going to various locations throughout the game like Royal Tombs doing research and this is even proven when Noctis returns and he says "The Day has been prepared"
On the whole everyone is significantly more prepared going in. Iggy reaches out to big influential and in-the-know people like Vyv, Sonya, Arenea and the hunters before the Eternal Night set in and with Ardyn being dealt with so early, he wasnt able to demonify all of Gralia and kickstart everything the way he did. With Ravus still around to possibly claim leadership over Gralia provided the leader was still just a demonic figurehead that could be disposed of, they could have even had the whole of Nifflehiem I'm their side too.
God I can’t even imagine them making s PS5, I mean I just recently got Ps4 a few months ago. I don’t even want to think about thinking of getting a new system
I interpreted it as since Ignis already forged the contract of death and decided to sacrifice himself so Noct didn’t have to die, the blood price was already played. Then when Noct showed up before Iggy died he just healed him with the crystal which is different from the ring and the previous kings were just like fuck, he done jipped the system. Then all Noctis had to do was go into the crystal, slap Ardyn with the stick and it was over since Iggy was already supposed to die. It’s mere speculation but this is how I have and will interpret it. However, it’s still noncanon and makes the actually ending that much more tragic. Damn it square, stop being mean to Noctis.
They realy have to buff Noctis moves up. Why do i feel better playing as Glad, Prompto or Ignis? Cause NOCTIS IS SO FRIGGIN SLOW, SLUGGISH AND WEAK. King weapons are a joke. The only good thing about Noct is his teleport ability and THATS IT.
Rivaille L. His dad could hold the New Wall, still fight, use spells like lightning and summon small shields. Noct? He has his youth and teleportation. He sucks ass. Can't believe the fate of the world rested upon him. The King and Luna deserved a bit better
i think the Noct gameplay suffers a lot after playing as other charakters. Even before the dlcs i thought that the game engine doesnt allow nice tight controlls but it is definetly not true. As a dmc series and platinum games fan i was very disapointed. I know, this is FF but if u change the core gameplay of the series to hack and slash do it atleast right or enhance the old system to the max like persona 5 did.
Lightining Returns enhanced the old system a lot and while I really enjoyed it most people didn't like it. Also, Noctis can use those OP grenades and Arminger, that's about what he's good for.
Yeah, I haven't tried the other characters yet do not wanting to have the game further spoiled possibly, but playing as Noct doesn't feel right, and it doesn't feel like an issue of there being skill to improve upon.
I somehow get the feeling that FFXV has turned into Square Enix technical playground, where they try stuff that will define future Final Fantasy Games (Open World, DLCs and now Character Switch). Especially the character switching feature is probably something that has to be tested "in the open field" and see how people react to it... you know... there's a remake in the works that has tons of characters and people are concerned the battle system will end up like it was in FFXV at release. But that's just a wild guess.
Better test it on FF XV than making new games every time. The FF XIII trilogy was also a technical playground for SE. I'm genuinely baffled how SE hasn't gone bankrupt yet, FF XIV must have made hella bank.
Well it deserves to be, it's a great MMO and a good game in general. I just wish they wouldn't rely so much on 11 and 14 being endless money wells. They no longer feel their decisions have consequences because even if a game flops it's going to sell due to the brand name and they can cut their losses thanks to the 11/14 income.
So FFXV mightbwell be a throwaway game from the dev perspective seeing as story-wise the remnants of versus 13 got shoehorned into an open world game when it really wasnt meant to work like that, and then it definitely got released before everything was finished, and then they kept adding new ideas and tweaking to test stuff out on the market for future games bc hey might as well, no matter how much some people who worked on it might have really believed in it there were enough who didnt that it basically became a clustertruck God that's depressing to consider
I bought FFXV for $80 USD when I got last year and I’m so happy with my purchase. Final Fantasy XV is my favorite Final Fantasy game, not sure why, maybe because it plays like Kingdom Hearts?
I got the ultimate edition when ffxv came out, bought the season pass on top of that, and still haven't regretted it. In fact I regret it less the more time goes on, if you can regret less then not regretting at all, that is 😁
Early this year I bought a new copy of the physical delux edition on xb1 which comes with the kingsglaive blueray i still havent watched. payed $60 for it. Just bought the digital delux version for $30 on ps4 this month because an it's only an extra $5 for the game with the dlc, 2 Nier Automata songs, and ps4 theme. It is flawed but I fucking love it anyways! no regrets either. :) Edit: I even enjoyed the Assasin's Creed Festival even though I judged it before playing it. I hate the AC series too.

I don’t get why people are giving 15 so much shit. Sure the dlc is crucial for story details, and I wasn’t happy about that, but the core game had a lot of content. With dungeons, side quests, all the things to explore, I platinum’d the game and had a blast doing it. I probably would’ve never touched the game in a while if it wasn’t for the update and dlc so I think 15 really benefits from this because it gives me a reason to jump back in.
I haven't finished the game yet, but I already like it better than FFXIII, and the whole issue of information not being present seems like it's been overstated in my opinion. So far I haven't had any questions. I'm only on Chapter 7 though.
It's a mess and the story is short, weak and poorly presented. The combat is watered down and offers no challenge with broken potion spamming mechanics. Character besides the bros are rarely given enough screen time like Raves and Luna and i have to pay for 3 dlc for the full dam game. That's just the tip of the iceberg. This game was so disappointing that after i plat it because it's apeshit stupid easy like the rest of the game i went back to final fantasy 13 just to plat it and you know what final fantasy 13 is actually considerably better than 15 in so many aspects i actually enjoyed playing that game over more than XV. Not to mention the final dungeon was short and underwhelming and the final bosses were pushovers and disappointing.

I do hope Square rerelease 15 as a definitive version with all the season pass and everything. I know that sounds like a shot in the foot for people who've already got the game and all dlc with it (myself), but I feel that would be a good decision since it would allow 15's story to be patched up and allow some extra scenes that weren't in the original release. Ch 13 I'm looking at you.
Yeah I definitely want this. I have the special edition version of FF15 and I finished the game back when it launched but I haven't played any of the DLC because I am waiting for them to finishing adding all the content. Once the game is complete I will play through the entire game again, playing DLC episodes when I feel it's an appropriate point in the story.
Your voice is obnoxious, and that's exactly why I love it so much. You are impossible to ignore. I'm going to get all the DLC sometime in the next month or so. I've intentionally not come back to FFXV till they were all done so I can get the "complete-ish" experience. ...well, that and my wonderful children decided to screw up my first time experiencing the ending.
Awesome write-up, agree with most of this... Nice seeing someone being fair/balanced on FFXV, seems like most people want to get all over-the-top about dissing this game... I think at this point it's hard to not be happy with what we have now, it's just strange that it took a year after its initial release... But I mean, there's something kind of interesting about episodic updates every few months? Not necessarily ideal, but like, a prolonged release like this isn't necessarily the worst way to do things...
CrystalNet I think it's nice, gives you a reason to keep coming back. I just didn't like how part of the reason was the big flaws in storytelling, but I think I would suport this in other games (only if they come complete on release, of course).
Even though I already seen the base story, I finally got the game and I'm playing them along the main game....looks like the iggy dlc is gonna get me fucked up with its alternative endings tho. So when will square buff noctis. That dude is supposed to be like a middle ground between each of the three but not as specialized. But he can't do nearly half the things they can and his only thing is all of the weapons and the royal arms which aren't worth it to use at all because of the health drain.
Kain he has the armiger, arterna, ring, royal weapons, warp strike, all the bros weapons, magic, super saiyan power in some boss battles? Dafuq you people complaining for? Noctis is easily the best to play, people love to hate or they just like the other characters because they are new.
The only issue with Noctis at this point is we are all so used to his gameplay. We’re bored of him. However play with the other characters for a bit and you’ll find yourself going back and using everyone equally
I have mixed feeling about this DLC, you say it will take like 2 hours yet I finished it in 1:15. I did some extra stuff too but not all of them. Prompto DLC was enjoyable and probably the best in my opinion. Ignis however was really easy and quick.. the capture the flag kinda idea did not appeal to me either. Idk I would give a 6/10 for this DLC it just dindt make me enjoy it as much as Prompto's did and.. well ignis being overpowerd is not fun at all.
This DLC was alright, prompto is definitely my favourite. I don’t really have much to say about it however... I will say that I was so excited for the update. I love the update but it needs major work still. Square needs to make it so you aren’t always switching back to Noctis after the fight ends. Also when the game takes its sweet time to recognize you’re switching it honestly takes me out of the experience and that isn’t a good thing. The problem isn’t fixed on PS4 pro, I’d imagine that Xbox one x might be better with it however.
There’s also the theory that because Ignis wasn’t blind in the alternate timeline he could, during the 10 years, actually do something about the information he got (which is more than in the canon) and find a different solution to that damn prophecy. Especially if Ardyn isn’t there to spur on the darkness. It’s kind of hard researching ancient tempels and info if you’re blind, which would have stopped him from getting anywhere in canon...
I don't regret ffxv. It might not be what we expected but I think this game will be a turning point for the company that I really like. Hell I think P5 will be an influence too.
Noctis has to ascend, become the king of kings and kill Ardyn in the other plane in order for the world to recover his light, so it's more likely that the only thing that changed is that Iggy either followed Noct to the other life and died with him or is able to see him thanks to previously using the ring of the lucii.
Personally, after playing through FFXV and then trying out the alternate verse, I've been wondering how the alternate ending could be possible at all. They make it very clear that the power of the Crystal AND the power of the entire line of Lucis - Including Noctis - would be needed to take out Ardyn and then the Starscourge. And it makes the entire game a very poignant story of coming of age, accepting responsibility and the bittersweet ending that a "Happily Ever After' actually comes at a price. So perhaps because Ignis was willing to pay this bloodprice, the at that time power of the kings was just enough to destroy Ardyn's physical body. Even though he's immortal and would obviously be back at Insomnia for the end this blow could have weakened him enough to not need /all/ of the aforementioned power to wipe him and the Scourge out. This could mean that Noctis could live... But it still doesn't excuse Ignis for not going blind OR dying at all after making his contract. Did the crystal take pity on him? Can Noctis overrule the covenant? I mean, it was a good dlc and some nice speculative writing... but it was missing ~some~ things to explain this loophole.
Buns, I need to quickly clarify you what happened at the end of Episode Ignis Chapter 3 Verse 2 (SPOILERS FOLLOW): It seems that the ending wasn't changed, Noctis did sacrifice himself and the last scene in the throne room is in the "beyond" (a.k.a. heaven, a.k.a. where Noctis married Luna, a.k.a. NOCTIS IS DEAD GOSH DAMMIT) First of all, we do not see how the battle of Ardyn plays out even if Ravus is present, they essentially pan up to the upper part of the Insomnia castle and the the light comes back and the darkess is vanished. So, by not showing us the battle and if Noctis did sacrifice like he did in the main game, we do not really know if the ending does take place in the beyond, but I have TWO proofs that make me believe they're indeed are in the beyond. First, the light gives me an eerie feeling, like they're way too happy and in a dream like state. And second, for some weird reason, they have in the later parts of the DLC the image of the wedding with no text as a loading screen. This leads me to believe that essentially nothing from the ending was changed whatsover but the fact that Ignis is no longer blind and will be able to live until the end of his days alongside Prompto, Gladio and the rest of Eos until he can reunite with Noctis in the Beyond.
No, there's a key difference to that ending: Noctis didn't ascend to the throne alone. So if he did die, he had the boys with him in that ending. That blast WOULD have killed them, too.
Chayyiel And Noctis not ascending to the Throne will bring back Ardyn, as stated Lunafreya's soul will not rest until the prophecy is fulfilled, meaning that still in the alternate end Noctis would have died. This is why the Alternate ending makes no sense.
@@somethingspicy4757 The alternate ending is a bonus. The real ending is the official one as it is shown by the final logo. Even with that alternative ending Noctis will have to sacrifice himself in the future because ardyn is still alive and it will return to cause more problems. The official ending has a closure. It is perfect. People just can't stand that Noctis died but sometimes tragic endings are better and more suitable.
13:37 no actually that IS still going to happen I The next comrades updates, In the comrades dlc in lestallum next to cid there’s a dude wearing a black suit. If you talk to him he gives you an option to change your character and he says that in future updates characters from the main game will be playable in comrades.

And why should I have to pay money for this? DLCs should feel like real expansions to a complete game, it should never be used like this.

in the alternate ending the sun did rise I guess they just ignored the fact that their needed to be a sacrifice Square confirmed at a GDC in 2016 that alternate realities are a thing so who to say its not cannon but just another reality
I think that the rub on this comes from the fact that it's in Ignis's paid DLC and not in the main game. If they had made it possible to get this ending through the main game, nobody would care. Multiple endings are a thing in video games after all.
I´m very very late, but Iggy sacrificing tons of times during the fight with Ardyn, weakens Ardyn, Noctis going to the crystal on his own terms makes him stronger, so after 10 years Ardyn doesn´t absorb so many demons as he did in the main timeline, that´s why Noctis can give him the light of redemption without sacrificing himself. Anyway, after learning is all Bahamuts fault in Ardyn´s ending, makes sense if Noctis survives. The one controlling the crystal was him all along.
(Spoilers) Yeah, I agree. I've heard some fans say stuff like "it's the new canonical ending!" And "they just figured out a way to let Noctis survive while he was away, it's totally possible." But I say nuh-uh, Bahamut was very clear. "Providence is the SOLE means of ending the immortal accursed, only can the chosen king receive it and only at the cost of a life--his own." The alternate ending either retconned plot to make a happy go lucky ending for the fans who complained about that, or Ignis was tricked (either by the crystal itself or Ardyn). I don't see the ending as happy at all, really. Ignis was willing to let Ardyn destroy the entire world (which seems out of character for Iggy) and at the end he calls throne Noctis "your majesty"--is it just a coincidence that those are the exact words Ardyn asked him to use? Something is fishy.
I love ffxv, so I understand the whole thing about development conflict and going back and forth, switching engines, directors, pleasing audience and all other drama going on with the game until we finally got this pile of enjoyably playable mess. I still have great trust in Square, it's among the very few gaming companies I trust. and I do trust it's THOSE development conflicts that *forced* them into splitting the story into a thousand pieces and not for greedy business motives. I'll let ffxv pass I really like it, but PLEASE square, for future games PLEASE give me a full game no DLCs NOMOREDLCs just give me a good full game and I'll give you my money PLEEEEEEAAAASEEE (If you didnt notice, I HATE this DLC trend going on with the gaming industry) And excellent review buns. Idk why but I had an idea....Noctis could’ve sacrificed Ardyn to restore light as Ardyn has royal blood in him so technically I think that would have worked and noctis wouldn’t have died....I’m not sure though so please don’t murder me

I want to know where the world of Eos goes now that of the five countries we're told about in XV's world (Lucis, Tenebrae, Accordo, Niflheim, and Galahd), three monarchies have fallen. Without a Crystal or an Oracle, do Lucis and Tenebrae still try to go with a monarchy? Democracy? Theocracy? ANARCHY?! I'm curious to see the future of this planet.
I have to disagree with you on the "crap boss fights", I always enjoyed them, besides the ones where you go super saiyan, those looked badass but all you really do hold the attack button. Other than that I found the boss fights pretty Damn entertaining.
Haven't played _Episode: Ignis_ yet (it's downloading) but I have to say I really appreciate them bringing the character select feature to the game as a free update. It is pretty clunky to actually enable it as you said (they could've at least mentioned you needed to unlock it in the patch notes), but so long as you're a AP high roller like me, 3x20AP to unlock it is nothing. I think dropping the price of each episode was a good move on S-E's part too, since they did get a fair bit of (just) criticism for setting the episodes up the way they did. I do blame time constraints more than Tabata for that one, but the S-E mandated hooks in the main game are still frustrating. Finally I did try out the Assassin's Festival for myself too; in short don't play it 😃. When I first started it up Noctis got stuck behind in invisible wall immediately as he hopped out of the car, trapping him out of bounds in the back loaded world (unable to do any of the cool out of bounds stuff you can normally do). After that, my game hung on a shop keeper animation that never loaded, forcing me to close the game and restart it. I know it's free guys, but could you put a little effort into making sure it's not a bug riddled mess please? 😅
I feel that in the alternate ending, Ignis dreams of the world Noctis & Luna resides in and sees the spirit of Noctis on his throne. Saying one last “Your majesty” before he awakens in the real world.
Ignis isn't a Glaive. He's a Crownsguard, a.k.a. Noctis's personal entourage. The Glaives were people who borrowed power from the King and his crystal to warp around and do limited damage. The Kingsglaive movie expands on this, but who watched that lmao. The reason he managed to get it working was because it was in service of the king + he was willing to sacrafice something for a pure motive, aka protecting noct and the future by extension. He said Glaive in reference to the protaganist of Kingsglaive, Nyx, who also put it on to protect the future, AKA Luna.
Also, @ noctis sacrificing himself. It's either seen as Noctis AND Ignis died due to use of the ring and just went to fight Ardyn and the whole gang and died there, OR it's seen as the Ring sparing Noctis because of the wish Ignis made on it, and then Noctis going into the crystal voluntarily on his own terms, thus creating a new deal with the crystal (which spared Ignis), and reestablishing the agreement that the Chosen King has to be sacrificed.
Lana Mcdwell You can't have multiple canon storylines... Canon means the official story line, Ignis can only make one choice at that split path so the canon one is the one played out in the base game where he fights back in Altissia.
Still waiting to buy this. Why? I want all my content at once. Spoilers be damned. I mean its not like I dont know what will happen anyway. The good guys will beat the bad. Doesnt matter how and what mcgufin they use to do it. In final fantasy the heros eventually win. Well maybe not in tactics but hey cant win them all. Damn political intrigue.
I just love how the ice covers ignis when using his blades. fun fact: i think he has the highest dps output at the end of the dlc and i really enjoyed how one has to keep the damage multiplier at its highest in the final boss fight.
Because (stupid) people buy it they will do the same for FF 7 remake and kingdom heart 3. PLEASE DON'T BUY DLC . 60 $ for the game + 30 $ for the FIRST season pass + 25 $ for the multiplayer AND THE GAME ISN'T EVEN COMPLETE. It make me sad ...
The bit about Ardyn is IN the main game. Bahamut tells you the exact same thing inside the crystal. The only new bit in Episode Ignis is Ardyn telling you that the past King was his brother. That's the only new info revealed in the alternate ending.

The episode is short but it had quite the heavy impact to my emotions. Honestly I'll probably play it again just because I unlocked the Quick Recipeh ability. Gonna cook Ardyn a nice meal of my feels.
The only fun boss fights in 15 are the final boss( due to flashy visuals) and the final secret boss because no items makes the fights feel like you actually have pay attention.
Martin Papos haven’t played Royal Edition so I can’t really say anything for it, mostly since I’m not buying it. But if does add more fun bosses that’s the version of the game everyone should have.
The bosses were ok but Ifrit was by far the best one in the entire game. I love hellfire theme and it makes me so happy when you use it in your videos. Love your work
FF15 had phenomenal gameplay, and the potential to be amazing. And I'm glad the dlc's are adding the story it so desperately needed, because the base game had a lot of "so what" moments. Luna's death had an amazing flashback scene, except it didnt have the impact it shoulda cuz we hardly ever saw her. Her home being destroyed had NO impact, because we were never even there. Same with Noct's home to be honest, coming back to it being overrun with daemons would have been a lot more impactful if we spent time in it first. I hardly cared about ravus because once again he was hardly in the game. The game lacking that killed most of the scenes that were supposed to be amazingly emotional. FF15 is the one that got away
MC I feel like ff15 woulda been fantastic if not for two things, for one the fans rushed the devs to hurry up. For another thing, I feel like they probably scrapped some stuff since this was supposed to be in 13's universe, but fans were getting sick of 13. Which is fair, but probably wouldnt have really affected this game.
Luna was such a wasted character. The game wanted you to be invested in her, but how could you be? Even the flashback scenes between her and Noctis were when they were children, and the impetus behind their marriage is obliterated almost immediately. We didn't have much of a reason to care. She was just kind of hanging out looking pretty in cut scenes and then she was dead. LOL.

Yeah pretty damn good moment, and just cements how much I love Ardyn's smarmy bastard-ness.
The choreography for Ardyn's cutscenes was just fantastic. He was already high on my list, but after this he's probably my #1 favourite FF villain. For all of its shortcomings, Ardyn is where the better side of XV's writing really shines.
Ardyn is possibly the best part about the whole game.
+Zela Morre Ardyn was my least favorite part of the game because of his bizarre interactions in Act 1, and still kind of is... but his attitude in Episode Prompto and Ignis was a bit of a saving grace. When he put his fedora on the soldier I busted out laughing and I ended up showing it to my wife... she was far less impressed. I'm a god damn child.
That was truly when Ardyn became one of my favorite video game villians.
I always defend Final Fantasy XV and will continue to do so because the core experience to me felt amazing and totally worth the 65 bucks. So I bought the season pass happily and it has been a rollarcoster of disappointing (Gladio and Comrades) to amazing (Prompto and Ignis).
I have to say, even though I understand how massively expensive XV was and I was very understanding on paying for the dlc, I kinda wish they waited another year and charged more for the game with all this content, because then it would have gone from great to masterpiece. When I first played and finished XV I adored it, but now, looking back, I realized it could have been more, with all this on the base game I would have declared this my favorite game of all time.
So I have clear mixed feelings: I'm happy this content is out, but boy I wish it would have all come together sooner

In a weird messed up way, waiting for the dlcs is the best part. It's like anicipation of what is gonna happen lol but yeah still would have been nice to have all this done like a year ago. BUT I will not complain because they could have just stopped and did no dlcs so for them to continue to upgrade it is very nice of them.
Considering XV was a 10+ year project that was announced right beside FFXIII with hints that they had been working on it all since Dirge of Cerberus. Square really has zero excuses for what they shelled out. This is not the kind of product we should be encouraging and while that band of sexy men had great stories. I still can't condone the DLC, strange controls, or the shortness of it all given the project was promoted as being HUGE. Nuuuuuuupe!

On the alternate ending bits and how it wouldn't actually change anything... Ignis stated his intentions, he wanted to save Noct's life and forge a way to not make him have to sacrifice himself. He chose to give up his own life for Noct and he was given the ring's partial power, same as in the canon ending. When you hit the wall where it fades Ignis can "risk" his life to keep fighting with partial and just go blind. Nothing changes... But if you sacrifice he gets the ring's full power. It even states he's forging the contract to save the king. He's paying Noct's price but since he's not true blood he can't wield the ring freely, which is why you only get 4 minutes to kill Ardyn.
Ardyn is defeated, and I think it's safe to assume that doing so has serious effects on the starscourge as well, since he made the contract that basically changed the course of fate. Thus, when Noct comes and takes up the ring, being chosen by the crystal, he makes the plea to save his friends. Noct takes his 10 years, Ignis gets his scars, but the price of blood was paid between them rather than fully by Noct and they both get to live while driving out the starscourge. When Ignis appears before Noct on the throne it's day time, so somewhere between arriving and Noct taking the throne dawn rose again like it does in the original ending.
That was just my interpretation though.

I came out here to have a good time and I’m honestly feeling so attacked right now
Two things:
1) You clearly see the Crystal healing Ignis in Chapter 3, Verse 2 when Noctis ASKS THE CRYSTAL TO HEAL IGNIS.
2) Ardyn is the embodiment of the Star Scourge, because he absorbed so much of it, ergo killing him permanently ends the Scourge. Ignis severely weakened Ardyn during their fight in Verse 2, which means Noctis wouldn't have had to use all of the power of the Ring to defeat him, meaning his life didn't need to be sacrificed. Cheesy and convenient, sure, but the ending still makes sense.
The reason Noctis had to kill himself to end the StarScourge is because he had to kill Ardyn's ghost, which was constantly being reanimated into a mortal body by the StarScourge.
I also heard (I'm way too lazy to go back and replay the game to look) that when Ignis gets healed, you can see sylleblossoms showing up implying that Lunafreya's Oracle healing power influence or whatnot.
It makes as much sense or more than the original. People can say it's contradicting how the starscourge works, how Ardyns immortality works, how the ring and the crystal work, how the chosen prophecy works...but the fact is none of that was ever explained so no contradiction is going on. In the main ending Noct gets told he must die so he goes and kills himself no questions asked from him or any of his so called friends: nowhere is it ever explained whys or hows. None of the minimal info we knew was changed by Ignis's actions.
I like to think that it's how he asked for the crystal's help between the two endings that altered what happened. in the main game it was "Give me the power to rid the world of The Darkness" or something to that effect. He rids the world of darkness, paying the price in the process. In the Episode, he asks it to help him protect his friends. Well even if he saves the world, he can't exactly protect his friends if he's dead, so......At least that's how I feel it is anyway.
It might also be that Noct accepts his destiny or what have you much earlier than he does in the main game. Ardyn goes on about Noct needing nudges, etc. for Ardyn's own plans. But what if the crystal/former kings of Lucis were judging him the same way?

I can't believe anyone bashes the alternate ending for being a mess. The whole game's plot was a mess from the beginning. It's not like it got any messier. They could add on 15 alternate endings, and it wouldn't make a difference at this point.

@@zelamorre1126 the storytelling was a mess but the actual plot was actually good. you need to do too many things to get the full picture: watch the anime, watch kingsglaive, play every dlc, play the royal edition, read a bunch of lore, etc.
So the reason I think and yeah this is SPOILERS IN BIG FLASHING NEON LIGHTS that Noctis did survive in that alternate ending was due to him seeing that vision from Pryna and knowing what it would lead to (Noctis dying) but because he wasn't blinded in that final attack and was fully healed now he focuses on ways to help prepare Noctis in a way that doesn't result in his death. This is seen in the credits with Ignis going to various locations throughout the game like Royal Tombs doing research and this is even proven when Noctis returns and he says "The Day has been prepared"
On the whole everyone is significantly more prepared going in. Iggy reaches out to big influential and in-the-know people like Vyv, Sonya, Arenea and the hunters before the Eternal Night set in and with Ardyn being dealt with so early, he wasnt able to demonify all of Gralia and kickstart everything the way he did. With Ravus still around to possibly claim leadership over Gralia provided the leader was still just a demonic figurehead that could be disposed of, they could have even had the whole of Nifflehiem I'm their side too.

Putting vital story info in non cannon endings is a very Yoko Taro esk thing to do.
I interpreted it as since Ignis already forged the contract of death and decided to sacrifice himself so Noct didn’t have to die, the blood price was already played. Then when Noct showed up before Iggy died he just healed him with the crystal which is different from the ring and the previous kings were just like fuck, he done jipped the system. Then all Noctis had to do was go into the crystal, slap Ardyn with the stick and it was over since Iggy was already supposed to die. It’s mere speculation but this is how I have and will interpret it. However, it’s still noncanon and makes the actually ending that much more tragic. Damn it square, stop being mean to Noctis.

i think the Noct gameplay suffers a lot after playing as other charakters. Even before the dlcs i thought that the game engine doesnt allow nice tight controlls but it is definetly not true. As a dmc series and platinum games fan i was very disapointed. I know, this is FF but if u change the core gameplay of the series to hack and slash do it atleast right or enhance the old system to the max like persona 5 did.
Lightining Returns enhanced the old system a lot and while I really enjoyed it most people didn't like it. Also, Noctis can use those OP grenades and Arminger, that's about what he's good for.
Yeah, I haven't tried the other characters yet do not wanting to have the game further spoiled possibly, but playing as Noct doesn't feel right, and it doesn't feel like an issue of there being skill to improve upon.
I somehow get the feeling that FFXV has turned into Square Enix technical playground, where they try stuff that will define future Final Fantasy Games (Open World, DLCs and now Character Switch). Especially the character switching feature is probably something that has to be tested "in the open field" and see how people react to it... you know... there's a remake in the works that has tons of characters and people are concerned the battle system will end up like it was in FFXV at release. But that's just a wild guess.
Better test it on FF XV than making new games every time. The FF XIII trilogy was also a technical playground for SE. I'm genuinely baffled how SE hasn't gone bankrupt yet, FF XIV must have made hella bank.

Well it deserves to be, it's a great MMO and a good game in general. I just wish they wouldn't rely so much on 11 and 14 being endless money wells. They no longer feel their decisions have consequences because even if a game flops it's going to sell due to the brand name and they can cut their losses thanks to the 11/14 income.
So FFXV mightbwell be a throwaway game from the dev perspective seeing as story-wise the remnants of versus 13 got shoehorned into an open world game when it really wasnt meant to work like that, and then it definitely got released before everything was finished, and then they kept adding new ideas and tweaking to test stuff out on the market for future games bc hey might as well, no matter how much some people who worked on it might have really believed in it there were enough who didnt that it basically became a clustertruck

I bought FFXV for $80 USD when I got last year and I’m so happy with my purchase. Final Fantasy XV is my favorite Final Fantasy game, not sure why, maybe because it plays like Kingdom Hearts?

Early this year I bought a new copy of the physical delux edition on xb1 which comes with the kingsglaive blueray i still havent watched. payed $60 for it. Just bought the digital delux version for $30 on ps4 this month because an it's only an extra $5 for the game with the dlc, 2 Nier Automata songs, and ps4 theme. It is flawed but I fucking love it anyways! no regrets either. :)
Edit: I even enjoyed the Assasin's Creed Festival even though I judged it before playing it. I hate the AC series too.

XV has been finally reedemed. All my issues have been fixed with the gsme. The stuff like ep Arydn we don't need. But will be nice for some extras
I don’t get why people are giving 15 so much shit. Sure the dlc is crucial for story details, and I wasn’t happy about that, but the core game had a lot of content. With dungeons, side quests, all the things to explore, I platinum’d the game and had a blast doing it. I probably would’ve never touched the game in a while if it wasn’t for the update and dlc so I think 15 really benefits from this because it gives me a reason to jump back in.
Most of the fetch quests would sooner or later end up leading to a dungeon, so not exactly anything wrong with that.
I haven't finished the game yet, but I already like it better than FFXIII, and the whole issue of information not being present seems like it's been overstated in my opinion. So far I haven't had any questions. I'm only on Chapter 7 though.
It's a mess and the story is short, weak and poorly presented. The combat is watered down and offers no challenge with broken potion spamming mechanics. Character besides the bros are rarely given enough screen time like Raves and Luna and i have to pay for 3 dlc for the full dam game. That's just the tip of the iceberg. This game was so disappointing that after i plat it because it's apeshit stupid easy like the rest of the game i went back to final fantasy 13 just to plat it and you know what final fantasy 13 is actually considerably better than 15 in so many aspects i actually enjoyed playing that game over more than XV. Not to mention the final dungeon was short and underwhelming and the final bosses were pushovers and disappointing.

I do hope Square rerelease 15 as a definitive version with all the season pass and everything. I know that sounds like a shot in the foot for people who've already got the game and all dlc with it (myself), but I feel that would be a good decision since it would allow 15's story to be patched up and allow some extra scenes that weren't in the original release. Ch 13 I'm looking at you.
And having all of the content and patched game IN DISC its beneficial for future playtrhoughs, since ps4 servers won't be arround forever.
Yeah I definitely want this. I have the special edition version of FF15 and I finished the game back when it launched but I haven't played any of the DLC because I am waiting for them to finishing adding all the content. Once the game is complete I will play through the entire game again, playing DLC episodes when I feel it's an appropriate point in the story.

Awesome write-up, agree with most of this... Nice seeing someone being fair/balanced on FFXV, seems like most people want to get all over-the-top about dissing this game... I think at this point it's hard to not be happy with what we have now, it's just strange that it took a year after its initial release... But I mean, there's something kind of interesting about episodic updates every few months? Not necessarily ideal, but like, a prolonged release like this isn't necessarily the worst way to do things...
CrystalNet I think it's nice, gives you a reason to keep coming back. I just didn't like how part of the reason was the big flaws in storytelling, but I think I would suport this in other games (only if they come complete on release, of course).

But he can't do nearly half the things they can and his only thing is all of the weapons and the royal arms which aren't worth it to use at all because of the health drain.

The only issue with Noctis at this point is we are all so used to his gameplay. We’re bored of him. However play with the other characters for a bit and you’ll find yourself going back and using everyone equally

I did some extra stuff too but not all of them.
Prompto DLC was enjoyable and probably the best in my opinion.
Ignis however was really easy and quick.. the capture the flag kinda idea did not appeal to me either. Idk I would give a 6/10 for this DLC it just dindt make me enjoy it as much as Prompto's did and.. well ignis being overpowerd is not fun at all.
This DLC was alright, prompto is definitely my favourite. I don’t really have much to say about it however... I will say that I was so excited for the update. I love the update but it needs major work still. Square needs to make it so you aren’t always switching back to Noctis after the fight ends. Also when the game takes its sweet time to recognize you’re switching it honestly takes me out of the experience and that isn’t a good thing. The problem isn’t fixed on PS4 pro, I’d imagine that Xbox one x might be better with it however.
There’s also the theory that because Ignis wasn’t blind in the alternate timeline he could, during the 10 years, actually do something about the information he got (which is more than in the canon) and find a different solution to that damn prophecy. Especially if Ardyn isn’t there to spur on the darkness. It’s kind of hard researching ancient tempels and info if you’re blind, which would have stopped him from getting anywhere in canon...
I don't regret ffxv. It might not be what we expected but I think this game will be a turning point for the company that I really like.

Noctis has to ascend, become the king of kings and kill Ardyn in the other plane in order for the world to recover his light, so it's more likely that the only thing that changed is that Iggy either followed Noct to the other life and died with him or is able to see him thanks to previously using the ring of the lucii.
Idk, I loved the boss fight with ardyn. I loved how it built the hate for him well. And then how the kings weapons came to aid.
Personally, after playing through FFXV and then trying out the alternate verse, I've been wondering how the alternate ending could be possible at all.
They make it very clear that the power of the Crystal AND the power of the entire line of Lucis - Including Noctis - would be needed to take out Ardyn and then the Starscourge. And it makes the entire game a very poignant story of coming of age, accepting responsibility and the bittersweet ending that a "Happily Ever After' actually comes at a price.
So perhaps because Ignis was willing to pay this bloodprice, the at that time power of the kings was just enough to destroy Ardyn's physical body. Even though he's immortal and would obviously be back at Insomnia for the end this blow could have weakened him enough to not need /all/ of the aforementioned power to wipe him and the Scourge out. This could mean that Noctis could live... But it still doesn't excuse Ignis for not going blind OR dying at all after making his contract.
Did the crystal take pity on him? Can Noctis overrule the covenant?
I mean, it was a good dlc and some nice speculative writing... but it was missing ~some~ things to explain this loophole.

Buns, I need to quickly clarify you what happened at the end of Episode Ignis Chapter 3 Verse 2 (SPOILERS FOLLOW):
It seems that the ending wasn't changed, Noctis did sacrifice himself and the last scene in the throne room is in the "beyond" (a.k.a. heaven, a.k.a. where Noctis married Luna, a.k.a. NOCTIS IS DEAD GOSH DAMMIT) First of all, we do not see how the battle of Ardyn plays out even if Ravus is present, they essentially pan up to the upper part of the Insomnia castle and the the light comes back and the darkess is vanished. So, by not showing us the battle and if Noctis did sacrifice like he did in the main game, we do not really know if the ending does take place in the beyond, but I have TWO proofs that make me believe they're indeed are in the beyond. First, the light gives me an eerie feeling, like they're way too happy and in a dream like state. And second, for some weird reason, they have in the later parts of the DLC the image of the wedding with no text as a loading screen. This leads me to believe that essentially nothing from the ending was changed whatsover but the fact that Ignis is no longer blind and will be able to live until the end of his days alongside Prompto, Gladio and the rest of Eos until he can reunite with Noctis in the Beyond.
No, there's a key difference to that ending: Noctis didn't ascend to the throne alone. So if he did die, he had the boys with him in that ending. That blast WOULD have killed them, too.
Chayyiel And Noctis not ascending to the Throne will bring back Ardyn, as stated Lunafreya's soul will not rest until the prophecy is fulfilled, meaning that still in the alternate end Noctis would have died.
This is why the Alternate ending makes no sense.
@@somethingspicy4757 The alternate ending is a bonus. The real ending is the official one as it is shown by the final logo. Even with that alternative ending Noctis will have to sacrifice himself in the future because ardyn is still alive and it will return to cause more problems. The official ending has a closure. It is perfect. People just can't stand that Noctis died but sometimes tragic endings are better and more suitable.
FF15 just made me sad, not because of the story but because of the wasted potential.
It maybe could have become the best (J)RPG to this date :C

If you talk to him he gives you an option to change your character and he says that in future updates characters from the main game will be playable in comrades.

in the alternate ending the sun did rise I guess they just ignored the fact that their needed to be a sacrifice Square confirmed at a GDC in 2016 that alternate realities are a thing so who to say its not cannon but just another reality
I think that the rub on this comes from the fact that it's in Ignis's paid DLC and not in the main game. If they had made it possible to get this ending through the main game, nobody would care. Multiple endings are a thing in video games after all.

I´m very very late, but Iggy sacrificing tons of times during the fight with Ardyn, weakens Ardyn, Noctis going to the crystal on his own terms makes him stronger, so after 10 years Ardyn doesn´t absorb so many demons as he did in the main timeline, that´s why Noctis can give him the light of redemption without sacrificing himself. Anyway, after learning is all Bahamuts fault in Ardyn´s ending, makes sense if Noctis survives. The one controlling the crystal was him all along.
(Spoilers) Yeah, I agree. I've heard some fans say stuff like "it's the new canonical ending!" And "they just figured out a way to let Noctis survive while he was away, it's totally possible." But I say nuh-uh, Bahamut was very clear. "Providence is the SOLE means of ending the immortal accursed, only can the chosen king receive it and only at the cost of a life--his own." The alternate ending either retconned plot to make a happy go lucky ending for the fans who complained about that, or Ignis was tricked (either by the crystal itself or Ardyn).
I don't see the ending as happy at all, really. Ignis was willing to let Ardyn destroy the entire world (which seems out of character for Iggy) and at the end he calls throne Noctis "your majesty"--is it just a coincidence that those are the exact words Ardyn asked him to use? Something is fishy.
I love ffxv, so I understand the whole thing about development conflict and going back and forth, switching engines, directors, pleasing audience and all other drama going on with the game until we finally got this pile of enjoyably playable mess.
I still have great trust in Square, it's among the very few gaming companies I trust. and I do trust it's THOSE development conflicts that *forced* them into splitting the story into a thousand pieces and not for greedy business motives.
I'll let ffxv pass I really like it, but PLEASE square, for future games PLEASE give me a full game no DLCs NOMOREDLCs just give me a good full game and I'll give you my money PLEEEEEEAAAASEEE

Idk why but I had an idea....Noctis could’ve sacrificed Ardyn to restore light as Ardyn has royal blood in him so technically I think that would have worked and noctis wouldn’t have died....I’m not sure though so please don’t murder me

I have to disagree with you on the "crap boss fights", I always enjoyed them, besides the ones where you go super saiyan, those looked badass but all you really do hold the attack button. Other than that I found the boss fights pretty Damn entertaining.

Haven't played _Episode: Ignis_ yet (it's downloading) but I have to say I really appreciate them bringing the character select feature to the game as a free update. It is pretty clunky to actually enable it as you said (they could've at least mentioned you needed to unlock it in the patch notes), but so long as you're a AP high roller like me, 3x20AP to unlock it is nothing.
I think dropping the price of each episode was a good move on S-E's part too, since they did get a fair bit of (just) criticism for setting the episodes up the way they did. I do blame time constraints more than Tabata for that one, but the S-E mandated hooks in the main game are still frustrating.
Finally I did try out the Assassin's Festival for myself too; in short don't play it 😃. When I first started it up Noctis got stuck behind in invisible wall immediately as he hopped out of the car, trapping him out of bounds in the back loaded world (unable to do any of the cool out of bounds stuff you can normally do). After that, my game hung on a shop keeper animation that never loaded, forcing me to close the game and restart it. I know it's free guys, but could you put a little effort into making sure it's not a bug riddled mess please? 😅
I feel that in the alternate ending, Ignis dreams of the world Noctis & Luna resides in and sees the spirit of Noctis on his throne.

Ignis isn't a Glaive. He's a Crownsguard, a.k.a. Noctis's personal entourage. The Glaives were people who borrowed power from the King and his crystal to warp around and do limited damage. The Kingsglaive movie expands on this, but who watched that lmao. The reason he managed to get it working was because it was in service of the king + he was willing to sacrafice something for a pure motive, aka protecting noct and the future by extension. He said Glaive in reference to the protaganist of Kingsglaive, Nyx, who also put it on to protect the future, AKA Luna.
Also, @ noctis sacrificing himself.
It's either seen as Noctis AND Ignis died due to use of the ring and just went to fight Ardyn and the whole gang and died there, OR it's seen as the Ring sparing Noctis because of the wish Ignis made on it, and then Noctis going into the crystal voluntarily on his own terms, thus creating a new deal with the crystal (which spared Ignis), and reestablishing the agreement that the Chosen King has to be sacrificed.

Lana Mcdwell You can't have multiple canon storylines... Canon means the official story line, Ignis can only make one choice at that split path so the canon one is the one played out in the base game where he fights back in Altissia.

My feelings were summed up in the first 5 seconds.
The bit about Ardyn is IN the main game. Bahamut tells you the exact same thing inside the crystal. The only new bit in Episode Ignis is Ardyn telling you that the past King was his brother. That's the only new info revealed in the alternate ending.

The episode is short but it had quite the heavy impact to my emotions. Honestly I'll probably play it again just because I unlocked the Quick Recipeh ability. Gonna cook Ardyn a nice meal of my feels.
Honestly the assassins festival was worth it. Besides the outfit u get being AWESOME, it's a good chance to tour Lestallum from above.

The only fun boss fights in 15 are the final boss( due to flashy visuals) and the final secret boss because no items makes the fights feel like you actually have pay attention.
I think all the Royal Edition bosses were pretty dope. Especially The Mystic.
Martin Papos haven’t played Royal Edition so I can’t really say anything for it, mostly since I’m not buying it. But if does add more fun bosses that’s the version of the game everyone should have.

The au ending could be taking place in whatever afterlife there is in Eos. Like, years later.
FF15 had phenomenal gameplay, and the potential to be amazing. And I'm glad the dlc's are adding the story it so desperately needed, because the base game had a lot of "so what" moments. Luna's death had an amazing flashback scene, except it didnt have the impact it shoulda cuz we hardly ever saw her. Her home being destroyed had NO impact, because we were never even there. Same with Noct's home to be honest, coming back to it being overrun with daemons would have been a lot more impactful if we spent time in it first. I hardly cared about ravus because once again he was hardly in the game. The game lacking that killed most of the scenes that were supposed to be amazingly emotional. FF15 is the one that got away
MC I feel like ff15 woulda been fantastic if not for two things, for one the fans rushed the devs to hurry up. For another thing, I feel like they probably scrapped some stuff since this was supposed to be in 13's universe, but fans were getting sick of 13. Which is fair, but probably wouldnt have really affected this game.
Luna was such a wasted character. The game wanted you to be invested in her, but how could you be? Even the flashback scenes between her and Noctis were when they were children, and the impetus behind their marriage is obliterated almost immediately. We didn't have much of a reason to care. She was just kind of hanging out looking pretty in cut scenes and then she was dead. LOL.
As a non-FF fan, I look at the footage and feel confused;
"Wasn't FF a turn-based game series...?"
