I literally just paid $200 for my daughters phone to get fixed 3 days ago and she cracked it again! When I do decide to fix it I’m definitely trying this thank you so much! All these positive reviews are amazing and makes me Hopeful I can do it myself.
You definitely got charged way too much. The costs for the screen are about $45-$80 depending on the quality grade. $120 additionally for an 0,5 to 1 hour of work is insane. Here, In the Netherlands repairing an XR screen may cost $85-$110.

Thank you so much!!! Following this video allowed me to replace the screen on my XR with minimal frustration. These step by step instructions are perfect! Hardest part was getting the little screws back in even though my tools were magnetic. I ordered one of the screens you recommended from Amazon, although I should have ordered an isesame tool or whatever you use to pry open the screen from the shell. The screen I ordered came with all the other tools I needed except it only had a little plastic guitar pick for prying up the screen, which just couldn't do the job. I ended up using a mini flathead screwdriver to get it open, which ended up leaving a little spot of damage on the shell where I first popped open the screen, however it's barely noticeable and is covered by my normal phone case. I'll take that little hidden spot of scratched aluminum over the huge crack I had going through my old screen!
@@aidaford5094 Yes I transferred the front facing camera to the new screen when I did the replacement and the Face ID and selfie mode still works as good as new after about 2 months, have never had an issue with that or any of the touch capabilities of the screen. The transfer of the camera from the old screen to the new one was a little nerve racking as I was worried about breaking something, but I just took it slow and watched that part of the video several times and actually watched one or two other videos on UA-cam of people doing it, so I had multiple perspectives and angles to watch and it worked out fine. The only odd thing about the screen I've noticed is that when unlocking and sliding the lock screen up, sometimes the lock screen goes up part way and then pauses or freezes for half a second before continuing up the rest of the way, don't think I ever noticed that with the original screen, but it doesn't really interfere or cause problems so it doesn't bother me. Also the battery drains a little faster than it used to, it's not terrible and I'm not even sure if it's from the new screen or just because the phone's a few years old now.

Based on my calculations a $60 DIY screen replacement is the better option. Plus I'm not continuing to pay for apple care making my decision more and more worth while every month.
Great tutorial thank you! Saved me a ton of money. The only thing I would add is my replacement screen came with the adhesive to put in it which you need to do before connecting the ribbon cables. Thanks for the help!
You missed a very important step. You can get replacement seals for the chassis of the phone and that will help it retain its water resistance. you should thuroughly scrape off and clean the old gasket with alcohol and a plastic scraper and reapply a new one. this way you keep your OEM features

In Australia it’s about $300 for screen replacement from the apple store or retailer. I just looked up an XR screen replacement kit and it was from $50 to $150, if that is correct you have just saved me so much money and time!!
Thank you for this tutorial, very easy to follow and I’ve replaced my screen, but now the colors of all my photos are a lot darker and not as good definition. It’s an LCD screen also bought from amazon- also I’ve noticed the phone got warm after as well- could it be bad quality screen ?
After market screen quality is not as good as Apple OEM. Sometimes you might able to find use Apple OEM screen on eBay. If you go with after market, try soft OLED, it has better quality of all after market screens.
Amazing! This was stressful at times where the screws wouldn’t unscrew. Make sure you use the right one all the time, otherwise you can cause damage to screw or screw driver, luckily I had two sets of screw drivers. But yes still better than paying more, good luck to others
Bro I think I f*cked myself , none of the screw drivers are working , the screen replacement came with 3 ... I tried all 3 screwdrivers , I think I stripped the tiny screw holding the screen together

I used this tutorial a couple of months ago for my phone and it worked! But I didn’t put adhesive around the screen. It was in nice and tight but I dropped it in the toilet tonight and the water started to spread all inside of my screen so fast! My phone was glitching so bad and I knew it was done for 😭😭 it finally turned off and won’t turn back on 😢 BUT, I have an extra phone however, and the screen is just cracked so I will be ordering another screen and using this video again to fix that phone 🎉😊 hopefully I can be more responsible next time, cause I’m honestly over it at this point 😒🙂

I’m no phone technician but I fix my own phones and looks like you forgot or just didn’t do a few things. Like the camera mounting you left on the old screen and you kept saying saying the proximity sensor cable/ear piece is the camera. Camera is fitted to the phone. And always test the display before putting brackets back
he was talking about the rear facing cameras and mic, the camera mounts where already installed on his screen, and he tested the phone before putting it back

This is a great video just know that your phone will not be water proof or water resistant because he did not replace the seal that holds the screen to the back. Other than that it is a great video!
Did my xr screen about 3 days ago works great Also camera and Face ID works too. Got the screen on Amazon. I didn’t Program the new screen so I won’t have True Tone. Only other thing I forgot was to put on the water resistant screen it came with. It will be blue. Other than that works perfectly!

Ok so I followed this, and the screen won’t turn on. The phone seems to work because it vibrates when I flip the vibrate switch. I followed your instructions to the T. I noticed you didn’t disconnect the battery. Well, neither did I. Did I fry my motherboard and the phone is good as gone? I already tried taking it off and putting it on again, to see if i messed the pins up. And i put on the old screen, now that screen doesn’t turn on either

yes always buy OEM screens otherwise the quality is just not the same

Just a tip for next time always disconnect the battery connector because there is a small chance that it could fry the logic board :)

Make sure you clean the motherboard from any corrosion. It may cause issues in the future.
