Having played the Yamaha YBS62, Yanagisawa 992 and Selmer SA80 II/III, the Selmer S80 Series II is my favorite horn of current production baritones. I always felt that the Yamaha was just missing "something." Nonetheless, still a great horn and Denis sounds amazing on his. But he'd sound amazing on a Bundy...
I loved my Yamaha 52 bari, but then I went to P Mauriat, and the intonation and tone was so much better. If you haven’t tried a P. Mauriat bari, I would before buying a Yamaha.
I own and love my Yamaha YSS-62 "Purple Logo" soprano (circa 1987). Now that I'm in the market for a baritone, I researched Yamaha, but they don't offer low Bb, so that's a rule out for me. I play Mark VI tenor and alto, though.
@@JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton 12M is a great way to go on vintage Baris. I’ve got one myself that I use for a lot of combo stuff, and I use my selmer SA80 for classical and big band rep. Truly great horns that have been played by some of the best.
+Jermaine Mcclendon I've got one, very different from my selmer s80 c**. I find that i have to really tighten the ligature and have to take in a bit more mouthpiece, but other than that, it's pretty free blowing and has an excellent sound. It might take some getting used to, and might not be worth the price, but then again, all good mouthpieces can get pricey.
I guess Yamaha is your brand Denis DiBlasio, I thought Keilwerth is the top band in college, just like Yanagisawa is the top brand in middle school, Selmer is the top brand in high school.
My friend Yanagisawa is a top brand anywhere. They only make professional instrument they don’t make student horns. Selmer is a top brand. I’m pretty sure there aren’t many middle school or high school kids playing Yanagisawa or Selmer.
@@vladimirlopez7840 you would be surprised how many are playing yanagisawa horns!..took my nephew where he was performing at a recital along with other sax players in Middle School and several playing yanagisawa.. including this horn..I was surprised
uhh yes i love my 62 too. yust cant get enough of it! :D
You hit the important points here, too many “sound” reviews... the G the RH finger distance consistency. Nuff said

you're going to have a fun time trying to find a modern horn without low a
@@ryancrow2773 You mean a new Asian robot one? I agree. I just bought a 1952 Conn 12M - no low A. It rocks.
Jeffrey Newton p mauriat makes custom low b flat baris
