Hi Denis, thank you for this, along with all the online research, have jumped in and purchased the V16 B7 with Vandoren M|O Ligature. We will use on an Antigua Pro BS4042LQ Power Bell Baritone, sweet sounds on that, thanks.
Great vid. I wish I had seen this before buying my V16. It is mellow, in tune but not enough projection for the big band, compared with my Runyan Delrin or Jody Jazz Jet. I keep going back to it, hoping I can coax it into better projection with different reeds etc but always disappointed. Also, if you are playing a synthetic reed e.g. Legere then the ligature does not fit tightly and when I did pluck up enough courage to play it at a gig, in the second set during a number the ligature slipped off.
i play the Jody Jazz HR Baritone piece the best I ever played but my fibracell reeds was a disaster on that piece but fine on my hr alto and tenor and soprano also so i stick to my rico Lavoz m on bari
Is using a small tip opening bad for jazz bari? I've been playing on Meyer 6 should I but the same tip opening or a bigger one? ( on a different mouthpiece of course)
v16 every time for me. less of a hard edge; more 'cool' ie; Young/Getz with a hint of Webster (if they were to have played bari and not tenor). Of course, as you say...there's no good or bad; right or wrong. It all comes down to individual preference.
Hi I'm a baritone sax player and I might possibly be getting either a v16 or a Otto link metal mouthpiece. From your experience would you say that the metal mouthpiece has a sharper sound where the v16 is more bolder or darker?
Do not get a metal mouthpiece, they are meant for solo or improvisation instruments. Get the v16, I have been using a V5 B35 for the past year and it sounds incredible, and I have used the V16 before.
Travis Jensen The otto link is a super dark mouthpiece, but it doesnt have the same cutting power other mouthpieces have, rubber or metal. Links are good for small combos and such but not so much for playing in a big band. I don't know what this guy is talking about. You can have the power with rubber or metal, heck Mule and Londieux, two of the greatest saxophone greats, played on metal mouthpieces. My advice is to try several mouthpieces, rubber and metal till you find the one you like.
The Vandoren V16 is a fantastic MP. Free blowing, easy to play and just plain ol' sounds good. And yes the ligature does make a difference.
V16 seemed to light up the sky...you are great

Just set up my horn with the V16 and a #2 .......fun!
Both are good even if the v16 is warmer and more in tune, maybe it comes from the reed.
haha, if only doing taxes was this much fun :-) thanks Mr DiBlasio. Helpful vid.
really liked the v16 and your playing man!
Question! which strap are you using?
That looks to me to be the Vandoren universal harness system, Dennis correct me if I'm wrong. It would be great to get your comments on that strap.
and also, what's better, to play like a B7 with 3.5 vandoren? or a B9 with 2 vandoren?
I would use a V16 reed, 3 strength, and he’s using the Vandoren harness which is the best harness I’ve ever used
Did the first thing he played come from somewhere?
The blues
nice job how hi can the Bari go up. just wondering. love the c Arizona sound
James Magana - The highest note is an F or F sharp but can go much higher in the altissimo range
Most normal saxophonists can get to a high (altissimo) B, but some talented individuals can go higher

I’ve found out the Vandoren V16 reeds are really great with the V16 mouthpiece, who woulda thought! 😂
RONNIE CUBER IS THAT YOU?!

Tip openings are subjective, because everyone's anatomy us different
Thank you for this
Salt peanuts salt peanuts :-)

Just a question what reed do you use with a vandoren v16 with a tip opening of 7?
Mmmmmm.... muy parecidas ! L V16 un poco más brillante que la V5 . Gracias !!!

The otto link is a good mouthpiece, but personally it’s too dark for my preference. The V16 is a good option.
Metal mouthpieces are not that great on bari, get ebonite or hard rubber

Your ligatures are on upside down
No they aren't, screws always face right
Yes. You go ahead and tell Denis-freaking-DiBlasio that he doesn't understand ligatures.
Wow.
