I did this today and it worked👍 Here were my key points: The screws that he mentions that screw in underneath the actual radio are VERY hard to remove due to lack of space. A ratchet would not work on the right hand side due to lack of space. After much frustration and even buying a flexible drill attachment for a socket I was able to do it. The flexible attachment was not strong enough to get the right screw off, but I realized with a socket bit on my drill I could just barely wedge it in from underneath and unscrew it with the drill. The other thing is that the radio DOES NOT easily slide out. You really need to take a piece of thin plastic and go around the edges to help get the tabs coming out. After that, you have to pull the unit out with considerable force. It will feel like it's going to break something. Final thing is that Honda wasn't helpful at first. First guy gave me 15 codes, but the second time I called she gave me two to try. The first one didn't work and the next one did. They really just need the serial number of the radio, and they record your vin just for records.

I found and installed a unit from a 2017 Elite into my 2016 Elite. Thanks in advance!
Unfortunately I don't have much knowledge about the factory nav because I don't have factory nav (use google maps instead), also dont use SiriusXM, but i dont see why a new unit would cause it to be spotty, maybe the cable for it is loose? As far as Apple car play, the instrument panel doesn't support it or knows it exists since it was made before they started integrating apple carplay.
@@romagrigorenko Thanks. I searched Google and it sounds like the factory Nav units don't have an actual compass (they use GPS to make a synthetic compass). I wonder if it's all related. Enger Rodriguez sure is. I have the 2016 EXL. Used Honda Hack to allow downloads. Then ordered the carlink dongle that allows car play. It works. Not sure how many people even know it. Total cost was $25 for the hack code and $47 for the dongle from amazon

P76 exactly. The instructions come up on the head unit. You just down the code and just do the steps over again to do the hack. I had my doubts but did it because I’m pissed Honda ignored us 2016 Pilot owners while the Accord got it in 2016. Other carmakers at least offer to add the hardware for a fee. @@romagrigorenko I purchased this app download on my phone. www.autohack.org/ - you will receive a download code via email. Then you install in through your car browser. You can use wifi (I hooked up to my house wifi in my garage). Open the browser (I had no idea it had one, but it does). After it is installed, you can use a car play dongle (purchased via amazon) to connect. I am working on small fixes regarding audio, and learning what setting to use for my phone, but so far the features all work well.
@@romagrigorenko I honestly tried to find a 2017 system, but they are super hard to find, and when I did find one, it was VERY expensive. So I gave up. Then I read about this and decided to try it. Since the system allows for apps to be downloaded it works. I can reset factory settings if there are any issues and delete the download.
Thank you for posting @tricia estrada !. I'm also struggling to find a 2017 or 2018 stereo for
How did you get youtube on your carplay?
How did you download those appstore to the car
So where’s the link fir the radio?
What one to get on lkQ for a 16 touring with dvd ?
Did you upgrade the receiver as well? Or just the display? I have a 2016 touring do i need anything else other than a 2017 touring display? Do you remember the part number needed?
Did you figure it out
What’s it called that I’m looking for on this?
Any idea if a US model will work fine in canada?
Is your model the EX-L RES. (Rear entertainment system) DVD. Would any EX model work in the different EX trims.
Thanks for the video.
jdmdub no, mine isnt RES. I’m not sure if that sub-sub model matters. If you want to make sure though, I’d look up the VIN of the car your replacement Navi came from.
curious if this mattered for you?
Do you happen to know the specific part number?
Did you even find out the exact part number ?
What is the link to get a inexpensive head unit
Where can I buy the Honda radio from
Great video! What about if I want to put the stereo back to stock? How can I do this? any instructions? Thanks!
Alfredo Mori thanks! And I’m not sure what you mean by “ back to stock “
Alfredo... This is a stock stereo, it's just a newer one
Where do I order this
What years are compatible with the 2016? Will any other years work? 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021?
2016-2018
How critical is the exact model? I have 2016 EX-L. Is 2017 EX ok? Seems like the only difference are moonroof and leather. Also not sure if NAV matters.
That should be fine. The L is just for the leather option
Do you offer this service to do this for my car?
I’m looking for a 2017 radio for my 2016 pilot.

@@renorican1 Where?
I found and installed a unit from a 2017 Elite into my 2016 Elite. I'm having a few issues & I'm looking for advice: (1) Compass is frozen & turn-by-turn not displaying (factory NAV) in instrument panel; (2) Nothing from Apple CarPlay displaying in instrument panel; (3) SiriusXM reception has become spotty.
It's a bit of a bummer without the compass and turn-by-turn. Has anybody replaced the 2016 instrument panel with a 2017 instrument panel? I wonder if that would fix it.
Hello MJ, I have a 2016 Pilot Elite trim as well and I was wondering where did you find the head unit for 2017 model and what is the manufacturer item number. I need to get one too, thanks you!
@@TheRemarkableVideos Hey. I also have a pilot elit 2016 and I need one. did you find the part number?
If you have an LX model, could you replace it with an EX to get CarPlay? I'm pretty sure not of the 2017 LX models have car play.
Bo Fallin not sure about LX tbh. Might have to try EX
hi , i have 2016 honda piolt EXl, i tried to follow your video and was looking at the parts when i called them they were asking part number , also they were saying it might not be comparable, could you please help me with below question
1) what is the part number
2) after installing doses your steering wheel all the feature works related to radio
Hello, the 2017 unit is compatible for sure.
1) I do not have the part number on hand, id have to take out the unit from my car again to check. But you can google it and find out.
2) Yes, the steering wheel features work fine after installation.
@@romagrigorenko thank you, this is great information with the video demo, hope i get the right part , is there a way to reach out to you apart from this comment section ?
@@Shail1011233 Did you ever found out the part number? How did the installation go?
Would a 2018 unit work?
That Guy not 100% sure but it don’t see why I wouldn’t work. I’d get it as long as it’s returnable just in case.
Where did you get your radio from?
Can you please share the links to places where I can buy the item?
Its in the description
Where did you get that ? I need one
Did LaneWatch work with the new 2017 Head installed in the 2016?
Yes, works just fine.
Just proof of how Honda makes excellent products but always manages to put the shit cherry on top of the cake at the end.
Anyone knows if a EX or ExL unit will work on a 2017 LX?
That’s what I’m trying to find out too? Did you get to figure it out?
@@freddymontenegro6547 I installed an aftermarket pioneer unit instead
Once I heard you had to switch I was gone
Hi, does you tube work while your driving?
Victor George not stock. Apple doesn’t want you driving and watching videos. But there are jailbreaks out there for it.
What are the links?
Do you use the same USB port as a 2017 model?
Young Kim Yes
So when you use nav from your phone does it show up on the screen? Thanks in advance
4PITTS1BURGH2 yep, it shows up on the screen
@@romagrigorenko sweet thanks for responding
Is your iPhone connected to CarPlay through Bluetooth?
No, i believe apple car play only works through usb.
gladel checked and it only works through usb
nice
Does it in any way affect existing warranty coverage to do that?
Big Gravy I highly doubt it. Took it to Honda a couple times and they did warranty work, never even noticed that I switched out the system
@@romagrigorenko That's wassup!
Would a display from a 2017 EX-l work on a Touring or Elite model?
Does the new unit work in conjunction with the MID like the stock radio?
Kenny Attison what do you mean by MID?
@@romagrigorenko The Multi Information Display on the dash that displays turn by turn directions. Also, does the steering wheel functions work with the 2017 head unit?
Also the MID displays input sources, call states, and other functions that coincide with the head unit. That's why I'm asking if all of that still works after installing the 2017 head unit. Thanks in advance! 🙂
@@funkyjug69 Yes, the MID seems to work in conjunction with the new unit. You can switch between sources and radio stations and see it cycle on the MID. Only thing it doesn't have is the apple carplay logo when you are cycling though the sources.
I haven't tested viewing call states because I never made calls through bluetooth but instead through apple carplay (usb). But I havent noticed any differences/issues compared to the original unit, as far as the MID goes.
All the steering wheel controls work perfectly.
@@romagrigorenko Okay great, thanks so much!
I have the honda pilot 2016, isnt this possible without having to add the 2017 radio?
Enger Rodriguez sure is. I have the 2016 EXL. Used Honda Hack to allow downloads. Then ordered the carlink dongle that allows car play. It works. Not sure how many people even know it. Total cost was $25 for the hack code and $47 for the dongle from amazon
4U2WatchNow Does Doing this affect the warranty?
P76 not sure BUT there is a great feature with the hack pro that allows you to remove the hack and put it back on when needed. So if you need to take the vehicle to the dealer everything will appear factory. Worked wonders for me
4U2WatchNow That is great! So basically once you want to put the Hack back onto the system, you reenter the same code you bought?
P76 exactly. The instructions come up on the head unit. You just down the code and just do the steps over again to do the hack. I had my doubts but did it because I’m pissed Honda ignored us 2016 Pilot owners while the Accord got it in 2016. Other carmakers at least offer to add the hardware for a fee. Just FYI, even though the ha k allows you to download apps, you would need to get a dongle to get the CarPlay. Inexpensive and gives you the CarPlay experience

Do you need to replace the USB port too??
It is a good question. I had my 2017 Mazda 6 upgraded to Android Auto from dealership and they replaced my USB port as well. Not sure if that is the case here for 2016 Pilot. I want to upgrade my wife's to Android Auto as well . Sadly the dealership does not do it
I hope the upgrade is worth it because theres a class action lawsuit filed against Honda for these systems. They're all defective. This infotainment is the worst I've ever used. Even after a firmware update 2019, it still has bugs and defects that distract the driver. I'm signing up for the suit because I had my experiences on the road.
Hello can you confirm that you are talking about a class action lawsuit that covers these horrible infotainment units in the 2016 pilot models? I only see one that referenced 2018-2019 models. Which of course installing a 2017+ radio won’t fix
