Yes, Roy visited Oz in ‘86 & did this spot shown on a show called Music Video hosted by Basia Bonkowski. I have it on VHS. If only this download went for another 2 seconds, you would’ve heard the final heavy handed strum to nail the finish of the song. Awesome track.
They were not popular when launched in the 80s. I always liked them. I noticed a few years ago Fender launched an electro-acoustic Telecaster with a similar tone.
I saw Roy in Sydney on this tour , he played The Tivoli & I think Ed Kuepper was support act . Cannot stop listening to this version of One Man Rock n Roll Band .
Been a Hawkwind fan since I heard In Search Of Space at 14 in 1972. A couple of months ago I found 'Roy Harper with Huw Lloyd Langton' on Trev's Tapes. Since I heard that I remembered the on Led Zeppelin song 'Hat's Of To Roy Harper" then all the Roy Harper Jimi Page collaborations. I can't get enough of this guy, he's absolutely brilliant. Even sung "Have A Cigar' for Pink Floyd. I always noticed it was a different sounding voice but found out until maybe a couple of decades ago Floyd weren't letting onto that fact lol
I watched this when it was shown in Australia when he was visiting in the late 80's. Still have the exact recording on VCR tape. Roy blew our minds with his talent!
Happy 79th Birthday Roy...feels like a blink of an eye since those great days of the free Stonehenge festivals...and helping you unload your amp and gear from your old Citreon DS...happy days.
@@jayst I would love to turn the clock back and do it all again. Time goes far too quick though...but, I was there at Stonehenge, in the days when you could walk up and touch the stones..and across the road you had this guy doing his thing..it was one of those moments in time...
Just been listening to Flashes From the Archives, and ain't heard it for 30 years. I have tears in my eyes......Roy Harper, LEGEND. Taught me some badass riffs.
I used to buy hash from a poll tax rioter/dog on a string/white but dreadlocks guy. Known him since before pubes but he had some years on me. Let me into his house at the tender age of 15 and looked after me and my mates circa 89/90 with the best sticky Afghan black, reb leb and pollen money could buy. Made sure I wasn't ripped off by other nefarious types. Pre skunk days. He even chased a bit of brown but never once tried ripping me off or 'taxing' me. The quality smoke days are well and truly over with. I no longer live in that town anymore and very much doubt he does if he's even still drawing breath. But something I'll always carry with me from those times is Stormcock.
At the age of Sixty seven I'm getting my hash from the 'Dark Web ', very good quality! Delivered through your letterbox by the GPO within four working days! F*ck times have changed!! Oh yeah bye the way I'm a big fan of Roy!! Have seen him many times! Always conjured up a Sonic storm!!...
Just been listening to Berliners...was it off Once...thats such a hard album to find for reasonable price...absolutely love you Roy...beginning reminded me of his 84 stonehenge gig..
I first saw this on TV in New Zealand in the 80's and I only knew Roy as the guy who sang on Pink Floyd Have A Cigar, well I went to his concert and was totally blown away. I got to talk to Roy, I was asking him questions about Syd Barett as I was so into Piper at the time. Roy was so patient and kind, he listened , nodded and answered my questions
Mate - Im a kiwi myself, and just yesterday, I saw on You Tube a New Zealand TV interview of Roy from 1986. I remember watching this performance myself, and I actually thought firstly the song was called unknown soldier, and secondly I thought the performance was more in the 70s as I emigrated to London in 87, and it seemed a long time before. It wasnt until I watched the Classic Rock Legends DVD (As I write) and this song came up. I got it confused, so I decided to do a You Tube search, and it was good to see your comment here. I had only really known of Roy Harper through the Hats off to Roy Harper Zeppelin track.
@@glasgowkiwi Wow. Was this on Radio with Pictures? I thought I saw it more towards the late afternoon, early evening, and not on a Sunday night when they had RWP. If you look at the interview with Roy from 86, he looks a lot different after he cut his hair. As you worked on the TV, you might be able to answer me a couple of questions (Or know something anyway). In 1976, I saw Status Quo at Carlaw Park. Not long before, I watched Stu Dennison (Nice one Stu from Gizago) play 4 songs of Quo - Mystery Song Promo, plus Paper Plane and Dont waste my time from Marquee London 1972. They also played Roadhouse Blues rom the Marquee 72, and to this day,I have not come across anyone who has seen it (Even on Quo Facebook pages). I did though speak to an Irish guy and he said he saw a clip of Bye Bye Johnny from the 72 show on Irish TV. Would love to get a hold of it. I also watched Grunt Machine with Andy Anderson (Was that his name), and one show, also around 1976 had a special on Quo to coincide with the tour. It was mostly interviews, but I do remember they played Roll over lay down (Not live, just the promo clip). ANy info or advice you have would be great. I was a huge Quo fan in them days (Gave up after the LIve Aid as In the Army now was a total cop out for me. Cheers
This is from a live performance on Australia's ABC TV around 1985. The first time EVER I heard this song & fell in love with Roy Harper's music....this is from his BEST album STORMCOCK
Found Roy Harper's rock-folk- jazz fusion style highly original in my late teens, his strident voice and often very lengthy, complex, lyrical and committed compositions exciting, compelling. Listening for the first time in many, many decades, I'm no less impressed: riveting stuff. Many thanks, Zelig666 for this great download.
Stormcock album is finest acoustic and vocal masterpiece of the 70s .. nothing came close to it and Jimmy Page rated it one of top ten guitar albums ever O m g this man was epic .. saw him twice (unforgettable) and struggled for years to play his complex rythmns and progressions. Just brilliant muso
Mine too. Love the man. Who could you go and see live who connects on such an emotional level? Formed the backbone of my beliefs and his voice and poety live in the heart. Our greatest musical poet, you can keep all the rest, they cannot touch his emotional level.
@JackyRowe, how could I have forgotten Clare Torry, you know she only received the standard rate ( at that time ) £35.00 I think it was for a session singer! Years later ( through litigation ) a more appropriate fee was paid! Quite right too.
Can't say I ever listened to Mr. Harper until now, I can definetly hear the influence he had on Led Zepplin, but his presence, vocal tone and guitar work remind me most of Neil Young, another great rock/folk/country artist.

Man, I moved up to Lismore from Sydney in 1986, wish I'd know of this at the time. Thanks for the post.
Sat in the thistle bar after closing with Roy and talked!, what an amazing human being!,, 3:23
One of the greatest song writer musicians of our time.
THIS IS WORTH MY TIME ON U TUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic!❤️
Mesmerizing.
Superb craftsmanship ✌️😊
holy numb . best one man band rock'n'roller
The sound that turned me on to roy
I saw him in Brisbane, UQ Refec - 18 April 1986 apparently.
Go on Roy....
One of a kind
The weed he smoked he said once helped his creativity.
Hats off the hell with that I lay my guitar at your feet.Wow.
13 years later, I'm still drooling. :)
The speakers are all mine says Roy..
This man and his music are criminally underrated.
Agree!!
Why are people so caught up in 'Ratings'?
Jimmy Page plays acoustic No Quarter in this tuning.
Amazing man, happy to know his incredible son Nick. 🙌
Legend!
it is an Ovation Adamas
Thanks for sharing that took me 30 odd years to come across this song again awesome
There's a very fine line between genius and madness. The best guitarist and songwriter you've never heard of !!

@Evan Hodge 😆
Now that was total class.
My hero.
Incredible track x seen him play this live many times and blown away by the incredible power of just one man and his guitar!!!
Me too, back in these 80s days when he’d have the black Ovation in open tuning and the light coloured one in standard tuning. Great times.
@Michael-mm3fm sure was!!! And the open tuned guitar really drew me in and was so mesmerising!
@@janewright2800 I agree, amazing sound and playing.
Absolutely stunning performance
if this does not make a young man want to pick up a guitar ...or woman come to that ..love Roy Harper .
agree on the emoitional thing, though it's been near 20 years since I've seen him live, a Roy concert is a spiritual experience
Same here, probably some 20 or so years since I saw him live. I was fortunate enough to have seen him some 15 times or more.
Worth Every Tear
Roy is a talented poet who has influenced many well known musicians and he never sold out
