Ratt has a lot of kick ass tunes. The album this song is from, Out of the Cellar, is awesome-the entire album. Their follow up album to this one was Invasion of Your Privacy and again, the entire record kicks ass. They have great guitar tone and just overall bad ass tunes.
@@shawnsford7071 They are the same genre. Hell they've toured with Poison, both as the headliner and later as an opener! People need to quit acting like "hair metal" = bad. Every band in the genre has been called "not a typical hair band" or some similar sentiment at this point. It's ridiculous.

They appear and play this song in a recent Geico commercial. The old couple are both played by Milton Berle who was a comedian from way back in the day and often dressed as a woman to get laughs. I think one of the band members or maybe their manager was a relative and got him to do the video.
Milton Berle was a great comedian when I was growing up. He was also dressed as the old woman at the table. He used those characters in a lot of his acts. You should look him up. He is really funny.
This song seems to be the only Ratt song that is ever played on rock radio anymore. I know how popular they were when they came out and they had several hits.... I just can't remember any of them because I haven't heard any of their other music in 30 years!! Funny but fascinating story about this band. (A friend told me this from when he saw them in concert) Ratt opened for Ozzy back in the mid 80's. This was when Ozzy was heavily into drugs and alcohol. Ratt played for about 1.5 hours to open the show. When Ozzy came out, he was so intoxicated he passed out trying to perform his first song. He was GONE!!!!! They couldn't revive him, so Ratt not wanting to disappoint the crowd, came out and played another 2 hours. A lot of respect for that. They must have covered many other songs but they did what entertainers do in order to keep the crowd happy.
Wow that's incredible! I'm sure Ozzy doesn't remember any of that shit. Man, watching all these old school bands makes me wish I couldve seen them live. The 80s just feels so magical.
Ratt was always a cut above the rest of the pack of their peers , the first 2 LP's are pure fire! The joy and enjoyment this dude has on this track really gets it.

Ratt's Back for More with cameos in the video by Tommy Lee & Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue. Other Ratt songs I suggest are You're in Love, Way Cool Jr, Slip of the Lip, Body Talk, Lay It Down just to name a few greats🤘
Don't listen to the haters. Ratt had a lot of great songs and fit perfectly within a window in the mid-'80s where they saw big success. You're in Love, Back For More, Lay it Down, and Dance are good examples of what they were all about. The video for You're in Love will give you a great example of what they were like live.
Not sure if you guys knew about this but Dolly Parton released a Christmas Album recently. She sounds wonderful as always. Watching you guys' videos gives me a new appreciation for old music that I've loved.
Great explanation for why you're stuck in the 80s. I happen to think the 70s outrock the 80s, but still yours is a respectable opinion. By the way, in 1984 I was a roadie for a band that covered this song.
Ratt's Body Talk was always one of my favorites after it played a roll in Eddie Murphey's Golden Child. Great song. Not sure if any live versions do it justice though.
You are SOOOOO spot on about the fun factor being missing from rock outside of the 80s (well, up to 1993 which was still 80s that just pilled over into the 90s). All those bands had image, style, moves, stage presence, charisma and showmanship - all the larger than life elements that define 'rock star' and which were ignored by all the bands since (tarting with grunge). Post 80s bands are like pub bands - just standing still in jeans and t-shirts. Fuck 'em! Forever 80s!
People hate hair metal because they either came along too late and have been told it sucks or because they legitimately don't like it. I think more are the first. Or just won't admit if ts catchy. 80's hair was the soundtrack to my teenage years. Of coarse it was just called heavy metal back then. As far as Ratt, this song still gets occasional airplay, believe it or not and has found recent renewed success from being in am insurance commercial. A lot of their other songs just sound really stock to me, but Ratt kind of epitomized that scene. You should check out the bands Slaughter & Cinderella too. I suggest nobody's fool.
I love this era. There’s something magical about hair metal bands that’s missing from current metal. I love the fact that most of the time these guys are singing about sex, groupies and partying. I also love the fact that they include women dancing and partying in their videos.
I haven't seen many comments on Milton Berle. That prince Charles looking..... In the 50s and thru 70s he played lots of roles including cross dressers. Very funny man. Legendary for his oil can huge unit
The reaction was awesome 😂! I was having flashbacks to bands like Cinderella, Autograph, and one you GOTTA check out is Aldo Nova "Fantasy"! Seemed groundbreaking at the time.... For comedic value find Michael Bolton's (ya, really) "Everybody's CrAzY". He started doing the ballads after that 🤣😂😅
Saw them live. They were doing their Out of the Cellar tour and opening up for the Scorpions in 1986. The Scorpions just finished their Love at First Stinilg tour and recorded it. So the next tour called World Wide Live tour which was the exact same thing. Their concert playlist songs were in the same order as the double album. So exact that they said the same exact thing even when not playing music because I had that album. I go to the Army in November of that year finish AIT at Fort Belvoir, Virginia to become a generator mechanic and then I have maybe a week saved up before I go to fly to West Germany for my first Duty station in Frankfurt. I had my bonus money from the schooling from the Army and rented limousine to go see poison open up for rat at a slightly smaller venue from the year before. The first one was in Tacoma at the Tacoma Dome the second one was at the Seattle Coliseum which is known as Key Arena now. That was poison look what the Cat Dragged In album their first album tour. That was rats Invasion of your privacy tour with Lay It Down as most commercial popular song on that album. You have to remember it was the era of MTV and you had to look good and have some poppy kind of stuff on it also. Plus boys that can play guitar or something that had money could get demos put out and sent out easier to get radio play and then get popular. MTV had basement tapes a few years before where people would send in their videos. Motley Crue came in first and I think Queensryche came in second and I think Scandal came in third. Interesting fact about Stephen Pearcy, the singer in the song is that his uncle is Paul Lind, a popular finally comedy actor from then. The "Prince Charles looking mother fu...!" So he had relatives in Hollywood and probably have loans or money or ways to get known in LA. All those islands I'm swear all right I'm pretty good. I haven't seen anybody react to Dokken from that area though. They had three albums by that time
Anyone that says Ratt is a horrible band has no clue about 80s music. If they did they would know Ratt was one of the pioneers of the 80s. They would also know that Ratt started in 1977. They have no clue about rock music.
I was 16, summer of '84 when this dropped. The band, the song, the lead guitarist, sparked me to buy my first guitar so much, the very next day I did. Warren DeMartini was considered one of the top 5 guitar gods from then on. And the album it's pulled from, Out of the Cellar, their debut full length album, is a top to bottom MASTERPIECE. If I had chosen the first song to drop to introduce Ratt to the world with, Round and Round would not have made my top 3 from this 9 track album. Wanted Man, Lack of Commutation and Back for More, were all strong enough to drop before Round and Round, the album is that good.
I think a lot of the hate comes from the whole hair metal vs. thrash metal mentality. Ratt isn't necessarily bad it's just that metal purists usually lean more towards the thrash side. More about the music than the look/style t-shirt and jeans vs. spandex and big hair and makeup.
I remember going to a party and a lovely young lady grabbed my hand and pulled me into a circle of about half a dozen people during the opening bars of the song. Someone across the way took a slug from a bottle of rum and passed it to the person to the right. They then took a slug from a Coke 2 liter and passed it. We passed them "Round and Round" until the rum was gone. I don't remember much after that
These guys were awesome. Saw them live in Manchester UK over 20 years ago. Way Cool Jnr, I Want a Woman and anything from Out of the Cellar album will not disappoint
And I saw Ratt 3 times b/w 1985 and 1987-precisely in their heyday. And Round and Round was an instant smash, reaching #12 on the U.S. Hot 100 Pop Charts and that was groundbreaking because genre preferences and references were so bias to it’’s own, it was extremely rare for any metal song to crack the Top 40 at all. Ratt, Motley Crue and Def Leppard were The BIg 3 of hair metal bands in the 80s,.
My favorite band of all 80s! Now if u like this jam, hear/watch "Dream Warrior" by Dokken (they performed some Nightmare on Elm Street soundtracks). That song's ending with Freddy Krueger got me laughing 9f my seat! Bad asss song from Dokken as many others by them!
Yeah, Ratt was cool. They have great choruses. Lay it Down is good, and another one of my favorites is Lack of Communication. One of the divides in eighties metal was the one side that liked more hardcore metal like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, etc... Many fans of these bands viewed a lot of these up and coming L.A. metal bands as being less about the music and more about the look and catering to "chicks." Some of that was not unfounded, but I always thought it was a mistake to lump all of the bands on the "hair metal" side of the genre into one category and dismiss them. Obviously bands like Poison or White Lion sort of deserved some of the criticism they got, but for a lot of these bands they were sometimes unfairly branded with this moniker and actually put out some good stuff. I know when Metallica first started they HATED the L.A. metal scene. Stephen Pearcy (lead singer of Ratt) talks about it a bit in the Metallica "Behind the Music" and claims that he said to James Hetfield, "Hey, we should all be friends and support one another. We all play metal" type of statement and Hetfield wouldn't hear of it.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT I was wrong. It was in the VH1 documentary on heavy metal called "Heavy." It was on Part 4. Pearcy talks about it at about 5:25 of this video: ua-cam.com/video/e6sboNctmLw/v-deo.html
"I love my new house, but I do have a RATT problem"

Milton Berle's nephew was the band's manager. Thats why he is in the video. Always loved seeing him in it.
Yea one of the members is related to melton
Way Cool Jr!
Best Miltin quote ever is, " only whip out enough to win." Lol
Ratt's video for "Lay It Down" got even more MTV airplay than this did. That's a fun one too.
and an incredible solo!
Are you sure about that? Mtv played this song every hour that summer
"You're in Love" is a great song by them. The video is mostly concert footage with the studio track.

I love RATT. Their music just draws you in.
I agree 100% with your statement
Actually I never knew RATT had a negative reputation. I always thought they were one of the more respected bands of the genre ( Hair Metal, 80's Rock)
I can't see why anyone wouldn't like these guys, they are hardcore.

I think a lot of the hate comes from the whole hair metal vs. thrash metal mentality. Ratt isn't necessarily bad it's just that metal purists usually lean more towards the thrash side. More about the music than the look/style t-shirt and jeans vs. spandex and big hair and makeup.
What I miss about 80s Heavy Metal videos is there's always a hot chicken dancing in every one of them.
Love some RATT do Wanted Man or Lack Of Communication.
Warren demartini is the man! I have to cheat when I learned their music on guitar, his fingers are like nine inches long LOL
I saw Ratt open for Bon Jovi on the slippery when wet tour. Ratt blew BJ (pun intended) away live!
Do " way cool JR.' RAT
Damn!!!!’ I guess Metallica felt like they had to uphold their image
@@TheAdventuresofTNT I was wrong. It was in the VH1 documentary on heavy metal called "Heavy." It was on Part 4. Pearcy talks about it at about 5:25 of this video:

Ratt n Roll!
Saw them in concert with bon Jovi in the day, even have photos still. 😆😆😆
My first concert was fall of 6th grade. Bon Jovi opened for Ratt. 85ish?
RATT'N'ROLL. LOL.
This is one of their best known but they do have some pretty good music in their library.
You should totally check out Freight Train by Nitro. You'll enjoy that ride!
I Want A Woman is a really good song by Ratt.
