"Spill the Wine" is a classic song by Eric Burdon and War, released in 1970. The track blends rock, funk, and Latin influences, showcasing War's signature sound characterized by infectious grooves and rich instrumentation. Lyrically, the song tells a playful and somewhat surreal story about a man who spills wine on a woman, leading to a series of whimsical and romantic encounters. The catchy chorus and distinctive horn arrangements contribute to its vibrant and laid-back feel. "Spill the Wine" became a hit, reaching the top of the charts and solidifying its place in the era's music scene. Over the years, it has remained a beloved staple of classic rock radio and is often associated with the carefree spirit of the 1970s.
“Low Rider” is also a song by War
We got it on the channel! so good!!!
Fun fact - the guy playing the flute is the same guy who sings and plays the sax on Low Rider.
This was cut so short! You need to hear & play the full version with the video showing them performing it - it sooo much better to see them perform it. I was a little kid when this song was a hit and my aunt used to play this song often. I've loved it since then.
Agreed
💯%! They also do a cover of “ Paint it Black” that I personally like better than The Rolling Stones’ .
He spilled the wine!
He took that pearl!
I love this one. I do have a request for another great song: *Time Has Come Today* by The Chambers Brothers - 1967
and "I Can't Turn you Loose" (Chambers Brothers)
War needs to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Besides this song, there was All Day Music, Slippin' Into Darkness, The World is a Ghetto, Cisco Kid, Me and Baby Brother, Gypsy Man, Ballero, Why Can't We Be Friends, Low Rider, Cinco de Mayo, Don't Let Nobody Get You Down, Galaxy, Peace Sign . . . if that's not enough to get you into the HoF, I don't know what else you (or they) could do. Kool & the Gang (inducted last year) was the New York Sound; War is the L.A. Sound.
I love that flute. Hey, that was shorter than I'm remember.
I never thought I'd say this, but...MORE WAR!
Slipping into Darkness is my favorite but Cisco Kid and Low Rider are grooves. ❤
Big Hit Summer Of 1970!
Definitely the live performance of this song.
The woman speaking Spanish in the background is Carmen Borrero, who was Jimi Hendrix' girlfriend at the time.
I played the flute in school and loved the flute in this song
I saw Eric Burden perform this song with War in 1970. Great show. War was fantastic.
You gents need to dive DEEP into the WAR catalog. "Low Rider", "Summertime", "The Cisco Kid", "The World is A Ghetto", "Livin' In The Red". There's a few more, but these will get you started.
Eric Burdon lived in the same apartment building as Jimi Hendrix., and was one of the last people to see Jimi alive and probably the first person other than his girlfriend to see Jimi's body
Should do the live video, it's very good
Eric Burdon and the Animals were it back in the day I'm a senior citizen and The House of the Rising Sun that they sing is electrifying😊😊😊😊 blessings from a chili Toronto
Ollie looks like he'd rather be anywhere else but there😅😅😅😅
Yeah, you usually have to wait until the end to find out how he feels. My take on the trio: Corey LOVES everything, Phenom is measured in his response and often has heard or knows something about the artist and Ollie...well, it's a rare treat when he is visibly enjoying something.
He always does
@@kafkadre6440 he does seem to be a bit of a Sourpuss LOL I don't know their names but the gentleman with the beard is my favorite he just rocks to everything have a blessed day from Toronto
@@patriciadavis1393At least he is honest about what he likes, or doesn't like!!
@@karenfryberger4260 He mumbles....cant hardly understand him
Yes, loved that song.⭐️
Okay I just turned 69 and I haven't heard this song and at least 40 years😅😅😅 I'm not sure if it's because I'm a little buzzed but that beginning beat fire fire fire fire fire😊😊😊 brings back lots of memories😅😅😅 have a great night from Toronto
Groovy guys. I'm 71 in Seattle
The Animals were awesome. Eric Burdon was awesome. This song is used in the movie Boogie Nights.
Great fun radio single to get War on everyone's radar. Burdon brought on board to do just that. Excellent band.
A perfect example of what life was like in 1970. Everybody was high on somthin'!
Totally
So much of the "cool" music of that part of that decade was trippy, one way or another. We just dug it and felt the groove.
Takes me back to my teenage years😂 thanks
I haven't heard this song in ages , it's a good one. Thanks guys
Oh, man, does this bring back memories. Love it! :)
hippie psychadelia right there ...over the top of some bluesy rythums
Yeah baby! This song is sooo good!❤
The long version is what you should find. I love this song since back in the day. Hi from NYC. ✌
Damn its been a while since I've heard this. You reactioners remind me of songs I've been missing
Classic
I remember this one!
Love the Animals! From what I know, War! Is the direction Eric wanted to go with the Animals. I’m a huge fan of both War! And The Animals. Great Video!!!
Puts a smile on my face.🙂♥️ Oh yeah.
I was about 13 when this came out --we listened to all our music on the radio. Every time this came on, we'd all talk, chant, and sing along. No idea what the h*** he was saying, but the song is so groovy we loved it. Most of us had no clue what the chorus was about.
Live performance of this pls 🎶🎵💚
I read when Eric Burdon came to the States to perform, he'd go to black clubs afterwards
Love is all around with Eric Burdon with War live on UA-cam. Excellent 1970 I believe
What a groove! Classic. I always took the spill the wine part literally and the tall grass part figuratively as cannabis. Also check out "Cisco Kid", "The World Is a Ghetto", and "Why Can't We Be Friends".
All Day Music is my FAV FROM WAR as a Summer song
Eric Burdon & War did some great tunes--- look them up-Uptempo- listen to "I'm Crying by the Animals-the song started after someone in the band knocked over a bottle of wine on the recording console and Eric ad libbed the words
Awesome song. So reflects those concerts or on the beach in the 70s. We had a lot of freedom, no joke. Of course I grew up in San Francisco....so there you go. This reflects so much.
You guys are so nice ! I'm an old white girl and I love what you do.
much love!!!!!
The Animal's broke up, but Burdon continued recording/touring under the name Eric Burdon & the Animals where they switched from English R & B to Psychedelic Rock for a solid run. When that ended he joined with War for their 1st 2 albums. War carried on without him for over a decade and Burdon went solo.
Also check out War's 1976 song/ video ' Summer'
Just caught the Love Affair with Everlasting Love & twas beautiful so may I recommend another great meaningful sixties number by Marmalade - Reflections Of My Life ! You're great commentators you guys 🤡🌈👁️😹
A common tradition at a wedding is for the bride and groom to drink wine together from the same glass 🍷 abd try not to spill any but everyone does
Great Reaction 👍🙏🦾💪🏻💯😎
The Isley Brothers did a great cover of this one, too. It's from the following year (1971). Definitely worth checking out.
There is a very good video on UA-cam where Eric Burdon explains the lyrics to the song because people, me included, were singing the wrong lyrics. In the video you get an explanation of how the song came about, directly from Eric Burdon. I was eleven when this song was released. There was a time where I couldn't listen to this song, it was oversaturated on the radio back then. The original Animals split up by this time. I think shortly after this Eric formed The New Animals, or something like that.
The "Egg Man" and War together!
Eric Burdon & the Animals - House of the Rising Sun is their best known song.
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥🔥love Eric!!!
Wow what a time that was. I don't look too deeply into this song...just a happy, trippy, buzzy, hippie enjoying whatever it was he was enjoying, a little wine, some sunshine, and a girl...what else could you want?
Yeah, this song is more about the vibe than the lyrics. That’s what makes it so great, I think.
Eric Burden along with Steppenwolf were always playing on the biker bars juke box. A very macho singer. No fluff from Eric. Powerful singer. Not loud, powerful full voiced at 15 lol. Kept getting better.
Another great is 'Monterey' which he wrote after the famous '67 festival of the same name.
"MONTEREY"
"SKY PILOT"
"SAN FRANCISCO NIGHTS"
AND ANY ANIMAL'S SONG!!!❤❤❤❤❤
You need to do the long version. I read somewhere that Spill the Wine refers to the girl losing her virginity. War is awesome, check out Low Rider, Sisco Kid, Slipping into darkness, etc...
I Used to lay in the grass with my Transistor Radio, and listen to music, and when this would come on i would pretend it was me laying in the tall Grass.
What a great image -- I can almost feel it
I can remember getting buzzed to this back in the day and I've turned full circle I'm listening to it again😅😅😅😅 I don't smoke I like cannabis Edibles I'm in Canada and it's legal thank you thank you thank you prime minister Trudeau
I went a BBQ at two of members of WAR. They such cool and fun guys!!!😆😆😅😂😂😂
"LOWRIDER"
"OUTLAW" 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
You have to check out the LIVE version then .. And also their LIVE version of #Tobacco Road.
Eric Burton and the Animals greatest song ever might be "Sky Pilot!"
There is a "radio version" and a longer one presumably from the album.
Please consider the long version of this song, plus there's a black and white video of what's happening as the young men go off to war.
Love Eric Burton's voice!
And also y'alls reactions!!
Damn. Cut out a section. Now wait a minute I know I'm laying in a field of grass somewhere!
You really need to see Eric Burden's performance. On the music video. It just does not do this song any justice without seeing the music video.
The storytelling is done in a Beat poetry style.
Yes this was right after the Animals broke up, and on a side note, it was either the Bass Player or Guitar player for the Animals became a producer and he is who took Jimmi Hendrix to England to record his first solo album.
It was the bass player: Chas Chandler.
On top of everything else it is just a trippy sexy song to enjoy at the beach with a bit of wine or a concert......
The Animals broke up - their bass player Chaz Chandler discovered Jimi Hendrix in a NY coffee shop, signed him up as his manager, took him to London and made him a star, the original keyboardist had already left - so Burdon firmed War, which he left before most of their hits.
You need the video version!
Great tune , better live video though. Good one .
I think Eric helped War , I just don’t know in what capacity. But I like his contribution to this song.
Please consider reacting to some Tedeschi Trucks Band - Midnight in Harlem. The live version. Don't think you've hit this band on your channel yet. The solo on the slide guitar from Derek Trucks Is up there with the greatest. Love you guys & your channel❤
The live version is both better and so much more entertaining.
I hate the BS of those who bring back everything to drugs . Its a vibe a funky mellow vibe
I love War. This is a good one. I also like The Isley Brother's version of Spill the Wine.
Back in the day, we all heard it as a metaphor for free living and free love. 'Spill the wine' don't stress your suroundings; and, 'take that pearl' - take whatever you prized, whether it was drugs or your girl's virginity. It was a general time of opening up to life- in whatever way you wanted. For most of us, that included SEX! So, the whole song was a reflection, or a dream of life.
Hard to describe that this song went along with the vibe of just groovin and trippin to the tune, even if you weren't using anything at all.......
Play the long version of "Time"by the Chambers Brothers
🔥
Leonid & Friends
You know Eric Burdon from the Animals and House of the Rising Sun.
Trippy.
Interesting, they play the studio version in the reaction video but talk as if they watched the live performance they used in the thumbnail…….
Gotta do what you gotta do, I get it guys, still love watching your reactions!
It sounds like you guys watched the live performance, (and if you didn't, it is a must see) while we got the edited version of the song. Oh well.
We had to switch out the video due to UA-cam being mean. The live version was so good!
Love this video! R.I.P. Eric❤
Eric Burdon is not dead!
He’s 82 now, I believe. Alive and still groovin’!
If I commented before you heard this song, I would've said you're gonna hear a bad ass song. And you did. Too bad it was a shortened version of it. You didn't get enough time to get into the funk. They were great.
Have you ever reacted to any Jethro Tull because they are that kind of offbeat sound as well and the only one I remember was Aqualung😊
OH No no no you got the cut version, There is vid of them performing together in a studio that is far better and it is the most popular version .. Eric Burdon & War - Spill The Wine (1970)

I always thought his group was the animals or did he have a backup group before that😮😮😮😮
It would be awesome if you guys would react to Disturbed singing The Sound of Silence
If you think you've never heard war before. How about low rider? You've heard that ....he gets a little higher
Great song, Great band and an iconic vocalist!!
There are some fantastic live recordings of this band from a 70s German TV programme 'Beat Club'
available on utube, I would definitely advise you to check them out, you will not be disappointed!!!....
Cisco Kid & Why Can't We Be Friends
Eric Burton first wife left him for Jimj Hendrix
Tower of Power - Soul With a Capital 'S' and Tower Of Power - Diggin' On James Brown are Two great songs that would be cool if u guys cold react to Love from Sweden/ Johan

CISCO KID. !!!!
Okay I'm sorry for all the messages but I'm high as a bird and I wanted to listen to this song again and there's one of the actual group playing and everything that would have been more interesting😢😢😢😢
"Tobacco Road" another Eric Burdon and War song. (This is a 14 min LIVE JAM Session Video). ua-cam.com/video/RF87aqqmf4Q/v-deo.htmlsi=JFG4nopu43sxJfm7
Should watch the live one instead
