Raced against you a few times this year (Wyre Forest & Swindon), awesome little video mate. What is clear is the dedication you need to put in to be competitive at amateur bike races in the UK. I agree with you that road racing is much more fun, tactical and hard! I will see on the start line next year I'm sure! However you might be on the podium and I'll be happy to get a top 10!
Great video. Not that watts are everything for getting you to move up categories, but it would be interesting to see a video of yours about how your watts have improved up until present days and what you think (in your personal opinion) is needed ftp or w/kg wise to reach certain categories in UK racing.
I know you say in the video that you prefer road racing, but honestly i would consider racing a city or town centre criterium. Whether you finnish at the front or off the back the buzz you get off it is difficult to beat.
I try and aim for 15 hours per week sometimes it is a bit more sometimes a bit less depending on commutes and training volume. Not tested for a while but when I do I will let you know 😉
You've done well. To go from 4th to second in a season isn't just about the work, you have some ability too (I don't, and found out the hard way). Out of interest, how well did you do at the swimming?
Thanks man, appreciate it, I think the fact that I have been riding bikes for years casually probably helped. As for swimming I was competing at a county level and training 4-6 days a week for a number of years!
What a year on the bike, wicked stuff man. Congrats! Looking forward to seeing what 2025 brings for you! I've been toying with the idea of doing some cat 4 racing, but not taken the plunge yet. Got any tips on getting into it?
Thanks Simon! I would honestly say just give it a go and try and have fun! You will know quite quickly if it is for you or not. I find crits more daunting that road racing for some reason but worth trying both. As with most things in life, it is more enjoyable with other people, I would try and find a local club that focuses on racing and that way you can do your first races with others you've already met and that way you have a good laugh about it/analyse it at the end!
I've messaged a few local clubs to see what's about. Funnily enough I had scoped out the winter series at lee valley, which looked to be one of your first races
heaps impressive to make such progress in such short time! hitterrrrr
Cheers man, the years of riding helped I just put it together this year I guess. I’m enjoying your videos, keep up the hard work!
