Good luck to you and your son this season! Super inspired with others teaching their children about hunting and fishing as I am with my daughter. Being a new hunter that just moved from outta state to FL, I am excited to learn a new hunting environment where there is no snow!
Josh, I wish I could pick your brain for a couple of hours with regards to hunting here in Florida. I had made a previous comment on another video of how you’ve helped me so much with regards to that very subject, however there are still some things I’m not very sure about, mainly choosing what management area to put a quota in for. I scout an area early in the year and then put the quota in for that area, but I don’t end up getting the quota leaving me to hunt a management area that I haven’t scouted and of course i don’t bag anything. Any suggestions?
Hey, that can be a challenge. Here’s a few things that help me. 1. Find some friends to hunt with. I originally didn’t draw an archery quota for the area that I like to hunt best but have a few friends that did so I’ll hunt as guest. 2. Put in for redraws every week. I did manage to pull a 3rd week archery redraw quota for my favorite place. I continue to put in for the first two every week. Last year I got the first week in phase 1 and then the second two weeks in redraws. It was lucky but you can only get lucky if you apply. 3. Scout areas that you don’t need a quota for so you have options. I mainly archery hunt so Richloam and Jumper Creek are WMA’s that I scout and usually hunt every year. There’s a ton of pressure come gun season but very little during archery. Hope this helps and good luck!
@@floridagrownandgathered8775 I didn’t think of that, though that may be a challenge as most of my friends don’t hunt. My guess is that the larger the management area the greater the chance of getting a quota such as for archery. I pulled one for Gothie but it’s for general gun in November. I appreciate your info and expertise in hunting and many other things that I enjoy. Keep up the good work! Ty
@@floridagrownandgathered8775 my bad. I didn’t see that you had provided more information after the number one. It didn’t show up until I hit your comment again. Many thanks! I may not have the friends but I will focus on number two and number three going forward.
@@floridagrownandgathered8775 i’m familiar with jumper Creek and I have hunted that area a few times and have seen both deer and hog. As for Richloam I’ve never been there. I’ll keep trying as you said and hopefully get lucky on the redraws.
