  • Looking at the Rossi R92 with a 24” Octagonal barrel. The newer versions made by CBC appear to much improved over the older Taurus made models.

GOT MINE BOUT THREE WEEKS BACK SAME MODEL AND ALL. OUT OF THE BOX I WAS EXPECTING A COMPLETE MESS AS YOU ALWAYS HEAR. UPON TEAR DOWN, CLEANUP, AND SPRING KIT INSTALL ALONG WITH A LARGE LOOP I WAS HELLA SURPRISED TO SEE MOST OF EVERYTHING WAS ALMOST 100% PERFECT AND DECIDED TO NOT CLEAN UP ANY SURFACES AND JUST LET THE INTERNALS MESH TOGETHER OVER TIME CAUSE LIKE YOU STATED IT WAS SO SMOOTH OUT OF THE BOX I EVEN DEBATED PUTTING THE STEVES GUNZ SPRINGS AND SUCH IN HER! ITS A WONDERFUL RIFLE AND SINCE THEN IVE ADDED IN THE RLO DRILLLESS SLING AND A SKINNER REAR PEEP WHICH HAS ABSOLUTLEY MADE IT EVEN BETTER THAN I COULD HAVE IMAGINED! IF HENRY AND MARLIN ARE DOING BETER THAN MY EXAMPLE IT AINT BY MUCH!

I had heard that the newer R92 is no longer made by Taurus.
I personally own an eight year old Taurus built model similar to the one in this video. The frame, nose cap, and buttplate are case hardened and is a 20" barrel. I have made no changes or modifications whatsoever. Off sandbags at 100m with my own cast loads will stay under 2", and one particular SWCHPGC with a healthy dose of AA7 is absolutely brutal on large feral hogs in the woods I live in.
The action and trigger are smooth and easy. All I did to make it this way was to sit and cycle it empty about 150 times. A pre-break in if you will. It's my absolute favorite rifle.
A neighbor was visiting for some shooting on my range a few years ago and was talking badly about Rossi and Taurus. I simply said try this, stating it was box stock. After a full magazine shot, he offered me more than I paid for it. Some folks listened to the wrong people and base their opinion but never personally shot the weapon. The internet "experts" are usually just being magpies repeating what they've heard, but never experienced the weapon.

@@anangryranger I’ve actually never heard anything negative about the Taurus Rossi’s other than they require a break in period to smooth out. This one was smooth operating from brand new and has also become one of my favorite rifles. Thank you for commenting.

Sorry to hear that, unfortunately that is a risk we take with certain manufacturers. Too bad they weren’t willing to correct it.

I had a Rossi single shot I bought it for my wife. 9 out of 10 times it would snap on a live round and you would have to cock it 3-4 times before it would fire. On the loading you would have to slam it hard to close it. Then you might have to close it 3-4 times before it would lock. Took it back to the gun shop where I bought it at. They had a gun Smith and he said that he couldn't find anything wrong with it. So I was out of luck got stuck with it for about 5 or 6 years until a friend of mine wanted to buy it. So I sold it to him for what I paid for it. At least I got my money back. I got my wife a Henry single shot a couple of years ago in the same caliber 5.56/223 and have had no problems with it. So I have said that I will never buy another Rossi.

I have had the same problems with Rossi. You just have to understand you are getting a cheap lever action for a reason. The problem is that people don't understand what quality is anymore and are willing to spend way more for a cheap, low quality rifle than they are worth. These rifles, whether from Taurus or Rossi, have always been made in Brazil.

@@Backin_ThedayAlways a risk buying something from a more “budget” manufacturer. Sometimes you get a good one, sometimes you don’t. Certainly are going to get better better quality and quality control from a company like Henry or Marlin.

From my research, Rossi has had a few importers over the years, and one of the importers branded them as Puma. Same rifles, just an importer name.
