She’s really advanced for her age! A two year old picking out her old clothes, putting dirty clothes in the hamper, and sleeping independently. Wow! That’s awesome !

knowledgeis she’s normal for montessori, but a lot of people treat their kids as younger than they actually are. My mom dressed me literally until I was 8, but I probably could have picked my own outfits successfully when I started walking. A lot of kids could technically be a lot more independent if their parents didn’t treat them as babies for too long 😬

Some choose to keep their children dependent and some give them independence. It's all on a case by case basis really. I love this idea. I don't have children yet but am doing it later in life and let's face it, I'm not as active as I used to be.

@@nuclearclarity3778 So true! My brother is 12. I'm 19. And when he was younger and I told him to do a simple task like "make your own sandwich" or "clean up your toys" My mom would tell me that he's "too young for this" Which I always thought was unfair, because I had to make my sandwiches for school by myself since I was 9, I had to clean up my room, I had to help around the house... And now when I ask him to wash the dishes or god damn put his dirty clothes into the basket not leaving them on the floor he tells me "I'm too young for this!" He's 12! Can't tie his shoelaces! Mom always pick up after him. I'm just sorry for his future wife. But I guess I also live in a culture where man is superior to a woman...

man, I feel almost sad for some reason but also really happy. I had a really bad childhood growing up and wish my parents did this for me instead of giving me material things and ignoring me emotionally all my life 80% of the time. you're an amazing parent, I just want you to know that. I want to have kids when I'm older to give them what my parents didn't give me.

You should try folding her clothes using the KonMari method! She promotes including your children in the process too so they can learn and it is something you can spend time doing together! She will also be able to see what each shirt is from the top with it still looking organized! Just a tip! Never heard of Montessori before but I’m loving watching your videos since I’ve found your channel!

    • @HapaFamily

I actually use the KonMari method for my nightstand drawer with PJs, lol, but that’s about it. Everything else I hang because I don’t really like folding laundry. I figure when she’s a bit older, if she wants to fold them, we can. But it’s not a big deal to me, so I don’t enforce it. 🥰

This is one thing I worry about once my husband and I decide to have kids 😅. I would love to ask everyone not to buy any baby clothes for our child because I'd rather have us do that and keep it minimal

My in-laws buy our 2 sons EACH about 10 tshirts and 4 pairs of trousers every Easter religiously 😩
I find it overwhelming to organise and keep track of, nevermind my kids. I end up donating the majority of it almost immediately which I feel bad about but they would just be offended if we asked them to stop. (They really don't understand our mindset and what we feel is best for our kids a/family.) And don't even get me started on the toys 😱

looks like I did Montesorri without knowing it, at least partially hahah Motesorri is about a lot of common sense and treating kids as someone who can actually do a lot of thing by themselves, which is true. I absolutely love the practical side of all of it! This is my style :D Wardrobe idea was AWESOME!!!! I was thinking about the artwork by my baby's bed but i'm afraid she'll tear it hahah I already let her choose what she wants to wear, well I give her options as she's only little yet (16months). There's still a lot to do around :D Love your videos !!!!

Hi I watched your Montessori baby room tour and I have a suggestion for the wall... you could make a Montessori floor house bed,put bumper pillows (the long roll pillows) on the sides while they’re still learning their bed boundaries so that they won’t get hurt, and you can hang your beautiful mobiles from the top so the baby can look up at them! You can also wrap lights around it for your lighting situation! And it would a fun bed idea for your toddler!

I’m so glad that I’m not the only one who doesn’t fold some things in drawers! I thought I was just a lazy person because everyone I know does it, even undies... I might fold my son’s shirts when they first go in the drawer but once they are a mess I just leave it that way.

I love this! Ive naturally always parented this way. Its what came natural to me, I breastfed, always just treated my daughter the way I would want to be treated in age appropiate ways, and kept to a simplistic setup. I hate how media and friends portray all they ways of parenting that completly go against what I naturally feel, and end up making me feel inadequate because I dont buy millions of unneccessary toys and clothes. This just reminds me to trust in myself.

I have had my daughter in her own floor bed since 6 months of age. Your videos give me so much inspiration. Sometimes when I feel like I don't have any ideas for things to do with my daughter or just feel like a failure, I watch your videos for inspiration. Thanks so much for what you do! Before moving her into her own room in her floor bed, she co-slept with my husband and I. She has rarely had a good night's sleep. It's really tough on me. I sleep trained at 6 months and she did ok, just needing to be consoled maybe 2-3 times a night. But there have beens ups and downs since then. She is 15 months old now. More recently on our sleep journey, we went to visit my family for Christmas. Since then (for the past 2 months), her sleep has just been a wreck. She wakes up through the night sometimes 10+ times on a bad night. I had closed her door for some time after the bedtime routine to enforce her going to sleep but she would just bang on the door and scream and cry. Now we leave her door open but I have to stay in the room until she falls asleep of course. It takes her usually an hour or sometimes 2+ hours to fall asleep. I try not to lay down with her but sometimes I give up and just lay down with her. Often when she wakes up at night, she will go around to my husband because she knows he won't take her back to her bed. He'll just grab her and put her in our bed. Then she will sleep until morning. Lately even if she's asleep in bed with me, she has been waking up crying. I don't know why she's crying. And going to other people's house during nap time is impossible. I end up having to go for a drive to get her nap in if I'm not home. How do you do naps with your girls at other people's houses? Have you had any of these problems? I really feel like a failure often. I know when I talk about how difficult sleep is with my daughter, everybody just says that I should have put her in a crib. If you read my comment, thanks so much.

@@beesquestionmark also, to do anything you should do it correctly or it wont work. Its like trying to learn a language without ever learning the alphabet in that language. Floorbeds are awesome if you know how to care for them. aka turn the mattress regularly, and depending on what floor you have, you have once a year where you 'air' the bed, aka take the mattress completely off the floor and let it air (this is if you have carpeted floors), easily dont if you do a big cleaning, like do it during Christmas cleaning or springcleaning.

I was looking for a montessori option for my 15 mo daughter's wardrobe. We just bought our first place and the children's bedroom is so tiny and it has NO closet whatsoever. We want her to be safe without us in her room (that she'll soon share with her baby brother since I'm 5 months pregnant, although we will cosleep for the first year), and for everything to be available to her. She already helps us folding and putting away her clothes, it's so cute! Although in the end I still have to do it again, but I let her try anyway, it makes her SO happy. Your girl is super precious! I'm sooo happy I'vve found your videos! My son is 2 and a half and I decided to re-do all the house "Montessori way" and I wasn't sure what to do with the wardrobe in his room. You gave me the solution, yeah! Thank you Ashley!

Oh good! Yay, I’m so glad I could help! 👏🏻😊 A cheaper and quicker solution that still achieves the same purpose is to hang a closet rod really low down in the actual closet so they can reach it, and use those plastic 3-drawer storage containers for the other items - that’s what we had before and it worked great!

Until this day I still sleep in a floor bed. I too like the Montessori way of setting up a room for children based upon their needs and not our convenience, though I currently have no choldren of my own, ha ha. At first o honestly wasn't on board with the stricter guidelines for Montessori schools because they tend too teach children all the same disregarding varying needs amongst their students. However in a smaller group environment rather than a daycare, preschool, or pre-k, where you could have more one on one time with a particular child the Montessori teaching method is absolutely the best.

Hahahaha I love that you used to be a dolphin trainer, makes sense ;). It is all about guiding the animal in the right direction, same as your kids. I have never heard of Montessori before but I love this approach. My husband and I are planning on having kids soon. I just left the zoo field (worked with giraffes and lots of other ungulates) for a more family friendly job, for me. Love these videos, great job. Keep them coming.

Idea for hair bows. If her hair bows have metal grips on the back you could mount a magnetic strip on the wall and she could pull off the bow she wants... just a thought 😊. You can get a magnetic strip from ikea I think it's meant to be for knives but seen them used for all sorts of things.

Thank you for the video. It is very useful as we are looking to "upgrade" our daughter's (21 months old) bedroom from a baby nursery. One question, do you need to do anything specific for the door of the bedroom, ie installing a baby gate or a baby safety door locks to stop them from coming out of the bedroom without supervision? Your advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

so cool. i love the reading nook and carpet the best. i don't have kid's i can't but love them.i have a two year old nephew though. i did a project on Montessori for my child development project in my senior year of hs. for young ages it such a good method for development. children are naturally curious and minimalist look is great no need to overstimulate or or overwhelm babies and well through pre-school age from what i learned. they get to explore to learn and play.no character things which are ok because when they get bit older like 4 and 5 and up then movies and characters and what not come in. i do know it's a method that should be done in infancy. nothing like consistency. i should think very good too for tots with disabilities esp. learning disabilities or even for some early intervention i as a grown up have learned that i am a kinetic learner so lots of hands on those sensory objects. for sure. i remember things better when i experience so like in school field trips were good for me. i like art class as a child loved even more when we had freestyle supplies would be out(no montessori) but basically could make whatever a craft no right or wrong. and what child doesn't like to get hands messy and other areas having fun materials the textures and what not. the black and white pattern cards also yes i also learned babies respond to them better than colorful or pastels too much take in black is dramatic and good thing. i remember going to pediatrician office when little and black and white patterned mobiles hanging to look at a good focus point esp when say sick and being poked and prodded not fun. love too how your children young as they are not only have some independence but also choices. and i like how small the choices are because then it just becomes a mess and overwhelming. are less tantrums? or at least with your children so far? it must be easier and less expensive to shop for toys and clothes that way.
