Landing at Denbigh in South East wave with a crosswind

  • After we smashed out 300km @ 176kph we glid back over the airfield for the most fun part of the day... getting back on the ground. To most this may just look like a crappy landing video. This is more likely to help people who are looking to learn about Denbigh's airfield (Lleweni Parc) or people who have flown there and just want some entertainment.
Now let me explain a few things before a ton of comments about how to fly here appear in the comments section.
    1. Height: It is always ideal to join overhead the airfield as high as possible to check the windsocks, allow lower gliders to land and ensure they roll to the end of the runway. As soon as we commit to landing I always put the gear down and check that it is locked with a last minute check downwind when I do final pre landing checks.
    2. Speed: At Denbigh even on the days when the wave is weak, there is no harm in approaching faster. There are 2 choices in my head, a very steep approach or a much faster approach with less airbrake. The outcome needs to remain the same, stay on the runway, stay in one bit and get to the end.
In this video I chose the "land on" when it became smooth enough to do so. This meant all I had to do was attempt to keep it. on the runway and roll to the end... this sounds easy in theory and is even easier when you look at the windsock and you are behind a screen ;)
The LS8 has heel brakes which make stopping much easier.. it also means there is less to worry about with the airbrakes being connected to the wheel brake. As long as you don't land with the wheel brake on..
    Glider: LS8ST
Site: Denbigh, North Wales (Lleweni Parc)

I found that a very interesting vid thanks. I've flown close-ish to Lleweni once or twice but from a few thousand feet plus, it all looks flat as a pancake so it was quite a surprise to see how hilly the site is.

@@FastJetPerformance thank you. Lots more to come soon. I have almost been out of the military long enough to post some of the better videos I had from when I was in as well.. 😂
