I keep coming back to this video.
Mount Kimbie will always be one of my faves as, like bands such as Radiohead, they change each song up when performing it. So fresh so clean ...

This is something way beyond dubstep. Hip-hop like beat, highly sampled. Deep electro/hypnotic is what I would call this.

So my daughter was going to see STS9 one weekend and she said they were going to play an acoustic show. My wife and I couldn't help ourselves. We both asked, "What are the going to do unplug the computers?" She was not impressed, although I am every time she says hey check this out.

@benoblest 140 bpm is generally used when making dubstep because it allows more flexibility when programming drums, especially when adding faster hi-hats. At 140 bpm the kick/snare will alternate every other measure while at 70 it will alternate every one. 140 bpm definitely is not "wrong". Though Mount Kimbie isn't dubstep, it has influences of it as I've heard it considered "post-dubstep".

Nothing I believe, hence the headphones to hear. Maybe they have a click going in the headphones and hear sounds to cue up when switching to different kits/sounds. It's actually off to me in certain points slightly (like any live performance) so I don't think anything is actually being heavily quatized except maybe the drums.

@222Sucram Just because producers mainly produce "dubstep" at 140 doesn't necessarily mean its 140 and half time, it could very well be 70 and double time, and thats a FACT. Regardless, that's not what I meant this discussion to be about, what tempo people consider "dubstep" to be is irrelevant. What I meant to say is, why do people consider all electronic music that falls in the "same general tempo" as dubstep, to be dubstep. A perfect example being here, Mount Kimbie.

@benoblest It is at 140 but its half time, which makes it fel like 70 -90 bpm, so get your facts straight. and there isnt a rule saying that the snare is on the 3rd beat. You obvo dont listen to dubstep because the wobble bass sounds didnt become popular until 09, before then the wobble bass sounds where actually creative, and really sub bass rather than mid range shit.
Also if you really want to get what dubstep is lsiten to burial, ikonika, zomby, kode 9, digital mystikz and kryptic minds.

Just to settle the argument... anyone who thinks these shows are impromptu is naive, to say the least. These setups that the bands have are pretty damn close to what they use live and even in the studio. That being said, if you understood how their music was composed and put together, there really aren't many other ways to perform the music that they make, mainly because of the way they make it to begin with.
