This is actually modern western. You have that’s a hired gun he’s hired to by a saloon owner to clean up his saloon. Of course since we’re talking about westerns this hired gun is a legend so of course everyone’s heard of this guy but no one’s has ever seen him. He comes to town and finds out that it’s ran by a corrupt man who owns most of the town. This has western written all over it. I bet that’s how they pitched this to the actors. It’s a modern day western instead of calling it Saloon we calling it Road House.
It also extends the wilderness v. civilization theme to small town vs. McDonaldization. Instead of the railroad bringing settlements and laws to spoil the virgin West--which is the classical Western theme--it's a big-city developer bringing national chains to spoil the town's local character.
Remember this, Roger Ebert, seemingly the goat in the US said The Thing was crap. They know nothing, look at any film the public detest and the critic score will be way higher.
When I worked as a bouncer at a small club, I had a belligerent dude threaten to kick my ass. I told him let's take it outside (Thanks Dalton!). After he walked out, I told him to have a great evening and shut the glass door behind him. He spent about 15 seconds pounding on the glass before he turned around and walked away in embarrassment as the people smoking outside laughed at him.
1:00:38 Not only is his name Red. That's Red West. He was one of Elvis Presley's bodyguards and he got fired (along with two other bodyguards) for being vocal about Elvis needing help due to his drug problem. They wrote a book after being fired titled "Elvis: What Happened?" exposing what was going on with Elvis behind the scenes. Elvis died only weeks after it was released. People have apparently speculated whether the release of the book caused Elvis to go off the rails even more, leading to his death.
The character of Red was played by Red West, a US Marine veteran, and former driver/bodyguard for Elvis Presley. He also worked as a stuntman on several of Elvis' movies, and wrote some songs for Elvis.
Good call …I mentioned that on drunk dad’s watch about terry funk on our roadhouse first watch …. It had to be said ….follow us we’re a shit ton of fun
I never shut up about this movie, i love it so much. Coming from a childhood where my dad only watched martial art like movies because of his martial arts background, this was one of my favs
Get them with kindness. I do that at work, when a patient is going for it and in my face I smile and be nice, you should see the switch lol it does work
My ex-husband was a bouncer in the 80s, and this was his favourite movie. I’ve had to watch it dozens of times. This is the most I’ve enjoyed it. Lol Patrick swayed had that build and kind of “aura” around him from years of ballet training.
When I saw you had Roadhouse today, I knew I was in for some fabulous '80s breakdowns. I was laughing with tears on your observations. It definitely has the feel of the producer needing to have some scenes put in. 😊
I vote a run of classic and cult favorite 80's movies guys! Raging Bull, Full Metal Jacket, Dead Poet Society, Field of Dreams, Escape from New York, They Live, Big Trouble in Little China, Ferris Bueller...the list goes on and on. It would be great to expose a younger audience to many of these movies and I'm sure that some of the crew have not seen more than a few of these!
I love that the main fight scene was full of roundhouse kicks and ended with the throat rip scene got a freak out and they said, “Roadhouse.” It’s the perfect tie-in to Peter Griffin being obsessed with “Roadhouse” that was referenced near the beginning of the reaction.
I just watched this movie for the first time a couple of days ago because of you guys. I really liked it and I especially liked how little by little they showed the Roadhouse evolving and becoming better and more alive.
The character of Dalton kind of feels exactly like the inspiration Lee Child's took for Reacher. Reacher is Dalton with a military background 100%. It's very interesting looking at it so far removed when this movie came out like almost 10 years before the first Reacher novel
The original cut of this movie was almost 3 hours and it included more Sam Elliot backstory and Keith David actually having fight scenes. But you guys should watch the sequel. Its an awful mess but it has Jake Busey.
I discovered your channel around a month ago and have been catching up on what I had missed when time permits. Suffice it to say, I have seen enough to know what to expect from your reactions. So, when I saw that you guys were reacting to "Roadhouse", I knew that this was going to be epic. You guys didn't disappoint. This was a 20 out of 10 reaction for me.
I credit Mystery Science Theater in 1991 for boosting Road House's profile. Mike Nelson was a writer on the show then and he was obsessed with the film.. they did a song on the Santa Claus Conquers the Martians episode called A Patrick Swayze Christmas... a Christmas Song set at the Road House. "Lets have a Patrick Swayze Christmas this year, or well tear your throat out and kick you in the ear".
The band with the blind guy are a real band and the guy with the moustache what he fired is legendary wrestler Terry funk who recently passed away. RIP funk
You find the score familiar because its the same as Lethal Weapon just tweaked slightly. And it's the Die Hard score when Dalton is fighting the guy and rips out his throat
i was 18 when this came out i was a doorman with a shodan sometimes i remember folks waiting for me afterhours and i asked how it was gonna go one at a time or all at once ah goodtimes im 52 now and still no record it was manuel back then no knives or guns today people cant exert only what is needed and it seems harder to contain ones self
I agree with Greg's comment about why weren't there more Roadhouse movies? Roadhouse 2: basically the same as Roadhouse 1 Roadhouse 3: Dalton in New York. Guest cameo from the Harlem Globetrotters Roadhouse 4: Dalton in space
The faux-turtleneck/ crew neck thing Dalton where's is a "mock turtleneck" they were almost a thing in the 90's but you don't see them much at all these days. AS shirts mock turrtlenecks lack the warming insulation of full turtlenecks but still manage to look silly. Though I think Swayze and, in general, people with muscles could occasionally pull them off.
This is one of my favorite movies from the 80's mostly because of Patrick Swayze but also Jeff Healey who is the blind guitarist. He was and is one of my favorite guitarist after Eddie Van Halen.
I heard Keith David had a whole back story and larger role and at the very last minute, the director called and told him they needed to shave some minutes off the movie and cut all his scenes.
Reminds me of Skidmore, Missouri. The town was being harrased by a man named Ken McElory, so 60 people surrounded him and killed him but everyone agreed they didn't see anything. 😏
Benny Urquidez was a champion kickboxer who was the fight choreographer. He said Swayze was good enough to have fought professionally. The bad guy and him really hit each other everywhere but the face which is why it looks so good
Just in time, Screen Junkies just did an Honest Trailer for Roadhouse. 0:38 They actually say at the beginning of the video "comes a movie that proves the difference between a bad bad movie, & a good bad movie, is Patrick Swayze"
I haven’t laughed this hard watching a review in... maybe ever 😂 Thank you both SO much rofl. If you want a COMPLETE tonal shift on Swayze's acting range, I STRONGLY recommend To Wing Foo.
This was amazing and everything. For something completely different, if you haven’t done or seen it yet, ya’ll gotta do To Wong Foo: Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar. Iconic performances from Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes & John Leguizamo playing drag queens.
Yeah, he’s / was dancer. Thats why he’s functionally strong and moves so well. So I’m realizing as I finished this video now that I need to explain further. Patrick Swayze was brought up in ballet and I understand he had a lot of different physical skill experiences. I’m sure he was a martial artist already by the time he did this movie.
The dude name red that owns the parts shop was one of Elvis's bodyguards that wrote the book and broke Elvis's heart. Also, Patrick Swayze was a dancer. His mother was a dance teacher.

My favorite line i heard years ago about Sam Elliott's moustache is that it (and William Shatners toupee,), should get it's own credit in every movie/show, they're in.

The cooler is the head bouncer, he supervises all the lower bouncers who actually get physical... Coolers only get physical when it's no other option.

Greg and Coy thirsting over Patrick Swayze for an hour and twenty four minutes

The reason this movie is so well loved is because somehow it manages to be both.
This.
Its not a bad movie at all. Its so great
It's just good, no bad in it.

Welcome to 80's action films.... high body counts, big explosions, car chases and of course the mandatory sex scene.
