Lord, You have told us through Your word to cling to You. Thank You that this is Your desire. We praise You that a holy and mighty God would invite us to walk so closely with You. And thank You, Lord, that we can know You through Your word, be strengthened through Your word, gain wisdom and guidance through Your word, and be corrected and re-directed by Your word. I pray that You would meet each of us who are doing this study in a strong and personal way. Help us, Lord, to draw closer to You. We need You, Lord. We need the help of Your presence. I pray that You would use the book of James to open our eyes, awaken our souls, move us to repentance, deepen our faith, and cause us to run the race with endurance for Christ. And I pray that You would use this book to draw us near, to cling to You. Help us to love You with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

I told my husband Kim my sister in Christ is going to have a bible study on James, therefore I started reading James the intro and James chapter 1; may I tell you Kim there is nothing better than to have someone as yourself to break it down with knowledge and hard studying, has helped me to understand it better, not that the biblical message was not understood, but when you do it with someone as you. I see you as my biblical teacher. If you have read partial testimony when you gave yours, I was brought up in a dysfunctional Christian home and came to understand the Bible much better in my late 50s all I knew was Christ was crucified, but not the reason behind it. Stay blessed and looking forward for the next lesson 🙏🙌❤⚘

You know, I struggle a lot because sometimes when I read the scriptures and see what God is calling us to do like, persevere/endure I gloss over the scripture that says ASK GOD and I ASSUME that I should just get it! And I don’t. I find myself throwing in the towel more often than not conceding that I’m just not strong enough. But the truth is, everything that I face good or indifferent requires the strength of the Lord! I’m grateful for this teaching. It really made me say “ummm” a lot I took lots of notes and will be going back again. Thank you for allowing the Lord to spark or love for His Word and a love for teaching His Word because it’s just for me!!

I love this so much, Tikisha, because that's exactly what we tend to do -- focus on what God is calling us to do (persevere/endure) and glossing over ASK GOD so that we can get the help we need. I always say I'm desperate for God....I need His help for EVERYTHING! :) I'm so thankful He gives willingly and generously. Thank you for sharing this. Love studying this book with you already!

Wow, just wow! You know how you know something because you experienced it but then someone comes along and just puts it all together? This is what I felt like watching this. I have been through many trials and have experienced God like I never would had these things not happened to me. They were so painful at the time. I was even bitter at the Lord. Tearfully asking him: “ lord why am I here? I don’t want to be here. No!” But now I can sit here and say... God IS faithful. God WILL provide. God DOES answer MY prayers. Grateful for this reminder and encouragement to keep going in my walk and to encourage others who are struggling. I’m grateful for the encouragement to ask for wisdom especially when I don’t know what to do about something or I have to make a decision And I’m not sure what to do. Thanks Kim!

Going deep even in the first 12 verses! :) I was nodding, saying "Amen" all the way through. I remember studying this book WAYYYYY back when in grade school, thinking my "trials" were no big deal...."I got this, and yes, I'm enduring for God....yay, me." HAHA - now, looking back on what I've walked through, what I AM walking through, and what I know is still to come I can say, fully, God IS good! The Christian walk is truly no joke, and there WILL be trials, but I can definitely say that my faith and walk with God is 1,000 times stronger now BECAUSE of what He has put in my life to walk through. I love this, at 12:32 ---> "Through trial, we come to know God as our rock, our refuge, and our strength." AMEN!!
And I loved the section about asking - how awesome is it that the King of the Universe wants us to come to Him and ASK? That just gets me all the time.....however, we need to be prepared for just HOW He will respond when we are bold to ask. His ways are truly higher than ours, because His answers are not always what we expect - I prayed for my little girl to be healed 4 years ago, and God took her Home. It took me almost a year after her death to have that light bulb moment when I realized - "Wow, He DID answer my prayer. He DID heal my daughter in the most amazing, powerful way possible!" I just had NO idea at the time I prayed that prayer that God's healing was different than what I had in my heart. Higher ways, indeed, and that trial definitely drew me closer to the Throne and gave me the endurance to run this race of my son's journey with the same disease. He is faithful every day and I thank Him for how He has indeed used the trials in my life to give me the best gift of all.....a closer, deeper relationship with Him. I will be a slave to righteousness any day.
This study started with a bang, for sure. Can't wait till next week! :)

Danielle, I have told you before and I say again -- your faith in the Lord is awe inspiring. You have gone through SO MUCH, and rather than be bitter or angry with God, you speak always of how your relationship and faith walk have been STRENGTHENED. You said 1,000 times stronger.....BECAUSE of what you went through! What an amazing testimony of God's goodness and faithfulness.
And thank you as well for the very real insight that God's answers are not always what we expect. His answer was indeed painful in your life, and unimaginably hard. Yet as I kept reading, there it was again....your faith and trust in the Lord. Praying the Lord's continued blessings upon you as you cling to Him, sis.

Great teaching Kim. Thank you for really clearing up the slave and servant difference. I do believe many have decided to not believe because they relate slave with our ancestors being slaves. James was no nonsense. I'm learning as I type to consider it all joy. Is it hard yes, but is it possible yes! "I too shall be like a tree" That's my goal. Looking forward to the next bible study with you!❤🌹

I am still stuck on servant. I think it is hitting me so deeply because in my past, I couldn't be a total servant of God because I was already a servant of man. Not with drugs or alcohol, but in needing their approval of me. With that need, I couldn't fully say yes to Jesus because I feared offending them and subconsciously I felt I couldn't offend them because I was living off of their praise.
I could speak on absolute topics like fornication and murder, but when it came to more intangible sins like unforgiveness , I would stammer because I didn't want to be frowned upon as self-righteous or too religious. I would say it, but very apologetically.
For instance, if someone had a dominant personality and they'd already given me favor, and it turns out they were treating someone perpetually unkind and I knew in my heart that God disapproved, it would be hard for me to say something to them. I would be silent instead of saying "Sister, you need to walk in love even for your sake. Because God says if you don't love, then you aren't His. Or, "Sister, you must ask God to help you forgive because if we don't forgive others, He can't forgive us." I had to search for the most feeble words so I could retain her favor.
Or if I wanted to share the truth about hell with someone who was skeptical sometimes I would refrain not wanting to be mocked. (Not all of the time, but any time I hesitate from fear is too many.)
I hated that about myself and yearned to be like Paul who didn't care what anyone said. I wanted to become a Galatians 1:10 girl " Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ."
So, I've improved significantly, but now I am asking God if there is still any part of me that would put the praise of men over His praise. If so, Jesus please remove it so I can fully serve You! Let me only have one Lord in my life! You Jesus!!.
Serving God frees me, serving man enslaves me.

Wow!!! Thank you so much for your testimony. I, too, have struggled with "people pleasing" all my life, but in my current trial it raised its ugly head in a way I could have never imagined.....in my health. I have, now, been forced to deal with it. Your words pierced my spirit when you said, "I couldn't fully say yes to Jesus because I feared offending them..." I never thought of my need to please as getting in the way of serving Christ. You really have enlightened me to something here by reading this. Thank you for sharing Galatians 1:10. Sounds like a verse I need to meditate on. Again, thank you for sharing and being transparent. To God be the glory for your heart to share!

This self-examination is everything, Jaimie. And I know it's the Lord who is leading you. He gives us such insight into ourselves, and thankfully, He also gives grace to draw closer to Him as we do. I love Galatians 1:10 and call it to mind often, because there are so many situations in which we can stumble due to seeking the approval of man, I pray the Lord's strength upon us all to serve Him only and walk with our eyes fixed on Him alone. Thank you for inspiring with your heart for Jesus.

@@kimcashtate Please know that I am especially endeared to you even more! You did not have to say that was not your home. My main concern was that I had trouble staying focused on God's word...when the camera panned around this beautiful home, because I love Interior Design so much. I am so eager to meet you in heaven, my sweet and humble sister! Maybe after you get your eyes off Jesus for a minute, you will let me run with you a bit in heaven.

Doulos. I'm stuck there. To be a slave to God. He isn't saying He wants me to accept His enslavement because God doesn't enslave (Exodus 21:16). He abhors subjugation.
But He is asking me have I committed my entire being to Him. Is my will truly His will no matter what. Am I sold out...literally.
Am I totally sold out for Jesus Christ...no looking back...Is anything on this earth powerful enough to sway me?
I'm going to meditate on that today.
Thank you Kim. I really love the depth of this study.

As I was reviewing my notes, I kept being drawn to patience. So I prayed for patience. A few hours later, we were running late to an appointment and when my kids opened the car door, there was a FROG in the car!!! He hopped his happy self under a seat where I could not get to him and while my kids were refusing to get in the car, a bug flew in through the open door while I was standing there and not-so-patiently urging them to get in. I offered a bravery award (Chick-fil-A) and they got in the car and we arrived to our appointment 10 minutes late. My daughter covered her face the entire trip and I tried to appear brave while I kept checking around me for Kermit. Patience level=0. But hey, we had Chick-fil-A 😂

Kim, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE How you lead the study of James like this! So dynamic and interesting! I learn so much from your videos!
I do have one question though: I am sensitive to repetition. Don't want to be but it's a real thing! :/ This study had the same 4 notes repeating over and over throughout the study, which made it hard for me to concentrate on the message. I love music, but the repetition like this makes my head hurt :( Do you have this available without the background music? Or can you make some of these with music that flows onward instead of repeating? This is not meant as a negative, I am braving putting this out here because I love the way you lead out and the excitement you have! It makes me more excited too!
