  • The Automatic Ride Height ARH feature of the Pan America Special is great for getting your feet down at stops, but it adds a challenge with getting the bike on the center stand. Give it a bounce to get more leverage!

    I have lowered my PanAm by changing the shock struts with Mizu ones form Germany. They're about 12mm longer and the rear is lowered about 40mm.
    But the difference is pulling the bike up on the the centre stand is huge. Way more effort needed but I don't need to do it often.

    Did you know that you can disable the ride height? If you do this , you can keep the bike in high mode so you can then use the centre stand.

    1st: when you use the Centerstand, you should stand in right angle to the bike, so that your foot is right in this position to the Centerstand:🦶! The right hand is just to stabilize at the Plastic.
    Every time when I start the Pan Am, the ARH lowers - that means, every time when I Stop the engine and leave it, it goes up - so the next time it is not down - it’s the same in your Video.

      ARH does not automatically raise up when the bike is off, though it will lift back up a little when leaned over onto the side stand. But I still find giving it a bounce or two makes it a bit easier for me. Thanks for watching.

    Hi Mike, thanks for the videos I like what your doing. Keep ity up. My question you is, did you have any electric problems so far with your PAS? My bike is currently on the shop for list of codes such as abs and others. Let me know. Thanks Will

      What funny timing. It struggled to start this morning and threw some communication failure codes. I was dropping it off at the dealer today anyway for an updated starter clutch, so they are going to take a look at that too.
      But up until this morning I’ve not had any real issues.

    Mike,
    Great video. Thanks. My right leg was aching after each ride and I finally figured out it was from the center stand, which I use a lot. Does the side stand need to go up with your technique? The side stand will not go down when bike is on the center stand and it is good insurance to have it down when taking off the center stand.
    Bruce

    • @MikesMotorbikeChannel
      @MikesMotorbikeChannel  Рік тому

      The issue with having the side stand down while taking the bike off the center stand is that when the suspension compresses the kick stand can hit the ground. This can transfer force up to the engine case. So I don’t recommend having the kickstand down while using the center stand.
      Having the bike in first gear when taking it off the stand helps with not having the bike roll on you while doing it.

      He makes them to fit BMW and Pan America, I actually am running the BMW version which fits on the larger diameter bars so that they are closer to me.
      If you prefer them out further then you’d want the ones sized for The front bar on the Pan America.
      Very high quality piece and low profile.

      I typically stand on the peg before swinging a leg over on or off. I've not scraped the seat at all using this method.

      @@MikesMotorbikeChannel LOL. I'm 5'6" with 30-inch inseam. I'm waiting for a PAS with ARH to see if I can fit the bike. I sat on a PA without ARH and it was way too tall for me.

    • @MikesMotorbikeChannel
      @MikesMotorbikeChannel  2 роки тому +1

      @@WarrenTom With ARH, I still cannot get both feet flat, but I can get the balls / toes of my feet down. I reach the ground better than the V-Strom I replaced with this bike, so a lot of it is going to depend on your confidence in being on a taller bike.
      That said, I've sat on a friends BMW and could barely get a foot on the ground, so while the Pan America is still quite tall compared to a cruiser, it is probably among the easiest to reach the ground as far as full size ADV bikes go.

    • @WarrenTom
      @WarrenTom 2 роки тому

      @@MikesMotorbikeChannel do you have the short seat for your PAS? Also, a GS1250 lowered with a short seat is pretty low and I can have balls of feet on the ground.

      @@WarrenTom No, I've used the stock seat and now have a Sundowner, both in the low position. Have tried a stock height / seat GS1250 and I'd say it felt just a little taller.. my friends XR1000 is so tall I can only touch with one foot.

    Am I missing something here? Is the bike OFF when you're shaking it or is it on? Thanks! Great videos!

    • @MikesMotorbikeChannel
      @MikesMotorbikeChannel  Рік тому +2

      The bike is off. ARH is designed so that it defaults to pumping up to the full height riding position if the computer is not controlling it to lower. So bouncing the bike with the ignition off will actually raise the bike up until you turn it on again. Even leaning it over on the side stand will cause the suspension to raise some, but giving it a few bounces when holding the bike will get the suspension all the way up.

    Hi Mike, can you answer me a question please without you being insulted. You don't look that tall....I am 5' 8"ish with a 30" inside leg, I have at the moment a Triumph 1200se and have lowered it 20mm. The standard seat height is 805mm but the bike is 301kg, the Pan America is 245kg ish and seat height is more than my Trophy.....how much does the Pan America actually drop to...is it below 800mm?

    • @MikesMotorbikeChannel
      @MikesMotorbikeChannel  2 роки тому +1

      I'm 5' 6", with a 29" inseam on a good day. In my experience I'd say ARH lowers the bike about an inch, it's not a huge drop, but does help. In my sundowner seat video, I measured my seat height at just under 33" (838mm), but I can't recall if that was in the low position or not. I did have the bike in a wheel chock and not lifted on the center stand for that. HD's advertised seat height numbers are based with a 180lb rider if I recall.
