The judges play God of life and death in many situations. They have huge egos, but sometimes they lack the legal knowledge and sensibility. I think Mr. Gowdy exposed those weaknesses in this short video. I take my hat off to Mr. Gowdy. Competence counts!!!

Since the moment I laid eyes on him years ago when he was a trial lawyer - yes yes yes. I truly admire this person. My dad used to say that if you wanted to know the heart of a horse - watch how he runs over time. This is a competent and honorable man.

Gowdy was clueless. NO ONE from SSA attends and testifies appeals heard by an ALJ. The hearings are not adversarial. Harrassing the expert witness by demanding a taxpayers' advocate at appeals hearings was a waste of breath. The judge couldn't do anything about that. You know who could? Trey Gowdy, member of Congress. Did he do a damn thing? Of course not. Gowdy is a media whore who sucked at doing his ACTUAL job. The art of politics is negotiating and compromising, but these are abhorrent to Tea Baggers. They made Congress do-nothing by opposing the House GOP-majority bills for not meeting their extreme standards meant to destroy the federal government.

Sorry Trey, I have to disagree here (my first with you). The fist step a filer has with SS is almost always automatically a turn down even when the filer has been blinded do to an injury.. Yes there are a bunch of idiots claiming to be Doctors on that board. Secondly, Social Security would be solvent if the US Congress had not STOLEN the reserve funds on numerous occasions. Third, Social Security is a participant funded retirement program on which the decision of disability all other retirement programs base. In other words if I have my own retirement program and I become disabled do to sickness or injury, my program by law will not pay unless Social Security declares me disabled. Awards letter as proof. Finally, Are there people who abuse the system? Yes but you don't punish those who have paid into this system all their working lives. You find and prosecute the abusers. The number one reason for SS turn downs at lower levels is to support the Law professions. You sir are a member of the legal profession and are therefore guilty of this crime by association, so yes the judges overturn because the majority of the cases should never have been turned down but they were to keep people like you working when the claimant has to hire a lawyer, Thank you for your part in sucking on the SS budget (or stealing from the disabled. Can a person who is disabled in the back do physical things? Yes, but not 8hrs a day, 40 hours a week and once a Doctor tells them they cannot return to work, employers will not hire them, because Workman's Comp (another Government controlled entity) will not cover them on jobs causing the employer to be at risk financially. So you might see some do something physical once in a while to supplement their starvation level income. I am not referring to robbery of copper, even though you chose that example. Are you ready to talk about Medicare now? How all a wage earners work life he/she pays 4% of their income to this fund then when they retire have to pay $100 per month in premiums plus co-pays? The rich do not pay for Social Security nor for Medicare, the workers do and you people in Congress (Republicans and Democrats alike) Steal their money even though you get Totally Government paid Medical and retirement, of which you made no contributions. These are Administrators (Article 1 Judges) not Constitutional Article III Judges. They would never grill an Article III Judge this way.
