me too! I'm glad she put up the words! it reminded me of how my daughter sings, when she doesn't know a word. I have to write it for her to get how to pronounce it correctly.
So glad I came across this video! Flutter tonguing is a lesson for me this week. I could not roll the r's for four counts for the life of me. As soon as I tried fluttering from the throat I immediately got it. Rolling my r's is still a challenge but fluttering from the throat is helping me practice rolling the r's with a better approach.
Those saxophone players, n they know how 2 squeeze a kiss, oboists n trumpeters 2, a good trumpeters lips will probably feel like all busted ehehehehehehe ,: -D
Also I noticed what Linda said it's true because I'm literally practicing while I watch your videos and I noticed that the toungue is better on the high notes but bad in the low notes
I remember the first time I heard and played flutter tongue. I was like 10 yrs old and I was i a camp from my wind band. There I was the youngest, as always, but there was also an other girl. She was eleven I think. We got a piece, if I remember right it was from pirates of the caribbean. There was a part where we have to trill. We two girls were alone because the older girls also played in an ensemble. So we practiced it. She didn't knew how to trill and asked me, if that what she just did was a trill. She fluttered with her tongue. I said a trill is made with two tones and not with the tongue, but I found it so cool, so I tried it. I got it at my first try. Eventually I forgot about it untill last summer. I got a new teacher, she also taught the other girl. Then she wanted to teach me the flutter tongue. I wasn't able to do it. Now I got it back because I practiced it
Thanks for sharing! Your videos are amazing, informative & fun to watch. I've been practicing this technique without actually knowing what it's called. Now I know, thanks to you. :-D
Thank you! This was helpful... My newest rep piece required flutter tonguing so this video came at the perfect time! Also you were so right I was totally gargling and rolling throughout the video! Love the videos :)
just schooled me on throating! LOL. probably why I didn't get French r concept, and I get Spanish and Thai r concept. Thank you for teaching a really long time student of flute that there still may be techniques I still can learn:)
Krisstofer Shaw I’m the opposite, I can do french r, but i sound like a demon, and I can’t learn the Spanish r. I try doing the Japanese accent but I can’t do it.
Can you flutter in the throat if you don't have tonsils? My older daughter can growl and purr in her throat, but my younger daughter and I have had our tonsils removed and can't.
Jeremiah Marsh put your tongue in the same position as the beginning of L, but instead of letting it fall down - start softly blowing air out and "try" to keep your tongue up. When you find the right balance between the air speed and your tongue's force, it'll start fluttering. Your tongue should be almost completely relaxed.
Still learning how to actually even do it with throat anyway, keep making low rumble with voice but know it has 2 be without voice, n is not easy or quick recipe n but we r making progress ,:-O
This is such innuendo-rich material. So I'll refrain from further comment except only to say that I would have loved to have heard you actually play music whilst fluttertonguing rather than merely making sound effects. 🤣
Overall I think the this presentation of your was not up to the standards of your other videos that I have seen. I love your sense of humor. That being said, I think you would have been better off focusing more on your teachers instruction rather than muddying the waters with all three of you. Personally I find using the throat works well in all three registers if you keep your throat open (as your teacher rightly points out) .....which is always preferred to tightening up (either throat or embouchure). We flute players have to always remind ourselves to not try so hard.....just practice. Practicing hard....or trying hard does not make perfect...........perfect practice makes perfect. Keep up the good work you and don't let my old fart opinions keep you from having fun :-)
Rose are red, violets are blue. My heart flutters, when you flutter tongue on the flute! When is it even used? No offence, but it sounds kinda bad...vibrato makes things sound better and more "refined" whereas fluttering makes it sound like...I dunno...
I'm currently on the train trying to practice fluttertonguing and the girl in front of me is looking at me weirdly lol
Winds just gotta...
Blow hard, finger fast. ;D
Oh wow lol 😂😂
Do you think you could do a video on piccolos? Pretty please?
Would like 2 purchase a piccolo ,:-0
When she said "You know how Robert Dick is?" I thought she said "Rubber Dick" and I almost screamed "WTF"
lol

your videos are so relatable. you always guess what I'm doing behind the screen. It's halarious! :)

Those saxophone players, n they know how 2 squeeze a kiss, oboists n trumpeters 2, a good trumpeters lips will probably feel like all busted ehehehehehehe ,: -D
Don’t know about flute, may know how to place lips in different ways n good stamina because of developing good breath ,:-0
0:41 just had to replay that a few times
2:06-I was going to coment that because I'm latino and since we use roll the R in our language it's easier for us to roll our toungue
Also I noticed what Linda said it's true because I'm literally practicing while I watch your videos and I noticed that the toungue is better on the high notes but bad in the low notes
Thanks for your knowledge

Ok ya I was trying to do it throughout the entire video...I discovered I can do both techniques!
Oh I laughed so hard at that 'so many feels while editing' bit XD (such an asian moment there at 5:18 ;) )
Im so glad you put the captions for "Robert Dick" ROFL
Thank you! This was helpful... My newest rep piece required flutter tonguing so this video came at the perfect time! Also you were so right I was totally gargling and rolling throughout the video! Love the videos :)

I'd never heard of fluttering with the throat! cool! I'm going to learn to do it that way. Thank you!
Is this possible on the clarinet? I am a beginner band student but it seems possible

Jane Wickman it has nothing to do with tonsils. I think it's actually tied to genetics on whether or not you can do it.
Thank you! This was so helpful because I can't roll my tongue. I didn't even know that you can flutter tongue with the throat! :)
Hi! Could you play sea songs by Ralph Vaughn Williams? :)
I just realized that I've been flutter-tonging with my throats for a year. Jeez I need a teacher so I know what this stuff is
How do you teach yourself how to roll your R's?
Jeremiah Marsh put your tongue in the same position as the beginning of L, but instead of letting it fall down - start softly blowing air out and "try" to keep your tongue up. When you find the right balance between the air speed and your tongue's force, it'll start fluttering. Your tongue should be almost completely relaxed.
+Jeremiah Marsh Read the menu at a Mexican restaraunt and have the workers correct you every time. Or aquire Mexican/Spanish/Brazilian friends.
I end up rolling my sides of my face instead of my tounge nathineal :(
How is that even possible?! :O
Idk xD its kinda like ur cheeks vibrating.I dont really know how to explain it
I use my throat, but I always thought I was cheating! Good to know it is an actual technique.
Can only do throat gurgling flutter tonguing, do anything to get tongue fluttering but do not know if I can roll my rs : -)
Still learning how to actually even do it with throat anyway, keep making low rumble with voice but know it has 2 be without voice, n is not easy or quick recipe n but we r making progress ,:-O

You're a hoot!
I can easily roll my tongue, and the throat, i actually did it!

I can't fluttertongue...I think it's because I have a pierced tongue and the extra weight of the piercing inhibits it

Listen to flight of the bumblebees on flute. It has flutter tounging.
+Uchiha Sasuke ....it's used in modern classical music and jazz....especially latin based jazz.
Hannah Ha I had to flutter tongue playing in the pit for seussical the musical
Your name shouldnt be "flutist" it should be "Floutist"
Trevor Boudreau could also be flautist, there are several ways. All are correct, except pianist.
She doesn’t play the floute
