Damasko started off in early 2000's manufacturing cases for Sinn. I think you're getting more value for money when going with the DS30 over the 556 because of the ice-hardened steel case, and other Damasko tech (self-lubricating crown and crown-shock protection). For a bit more money, you can even get their in-house movement DK30 models.
ya, so many people don't realize Damasko is a steel manufacture first, watch maker second. The only was/is a fan of watches and was supplying Sinn with their steel materials.
A couple of years ago I was trying to decide which of the two watches to go with. I went with the DS30 because of the hardened steel, thickness, and "crosshairs" on the dial. I find the crosshairs help with a quick reading as they immediately orient your eyes to the dial.
I’ve had that exact damasko for over a year, wore on a rubber strap and loved it. Just yesterday I bit the bullet and bought the bracelet. It literally transforms the watch, I think it’s my favourite now. It’s definitely not a cheap bracelet, but it completes the watch perfectly. It’s very well done, love the all sub steel look 😍
So well showcased Peter, and your intro is a thing of beauty. Especially like your colour coding of the 67 in your logo playing at the start .. Details like this make these reviews all the more enjoyable.
After a whole lot shopping recently for a new 'field style' watch, I am now thinking about a DK30. I've looked at the new Circula ProTrail, various CW (the new Dune model is very cool), Orient Star Outdoor, Sinn 556, and a few others... To think, this all started months ago just wanting the Seiko SRPE67!! 😮 Kinda hard to beat for $200!! Lol!
@@spydergkh6337 It's a dangerous and expensive hobby! :D I'm now eyeing the DK30 myself, after considering the Tissot PRX to be an expensive watch at some point. :-)
Nice review. DS30 is back on the market (available with bracelet). Looks much better in person than in pictures thank goodness. The thinness, tough steel, & impressive crown make it a winner. Mine gets so much wrist time because it is so darn comfortable.
The classy-chill background music immediately sets me at ease 😌 As I'm sort of edging into a German tool watch collecting niche, I really appreciate this video. So does my creditor, lol 💸
I Like Sinn and actually always wanted one, but each time Damasko won all things considered. I own DA36, DK105 and DC80 of that nice family brand. Good video!
I own two Sinn and 1 Damasko and they are both great watches with fantastic build quality. I do think Damasko have tighter QC and finer tolerances, i also think they regulate their watches a little better. Sinn have a much larger choice and a more varied choice of styles and designs. You can't go wrong with either, but i think Damasko just have the edge pound for pound.
Sinn use Top grade movements and Damasko use base grade.. big difference!! Also ive had poorly regulated Damasko and Sinn.. but the movement quality is superior with Sinn
Like the green67 on the title! Great review as always. Both look good. They both have different refinements so really hard to choose. One thing that bugs me, albeit very small, with sinn is the black bits on the hands aren't equal, just that small attention to detail considering its higher cost. Damasko has been on my radar for a while. Very nice looking. Want to see them do more other styles of dials
I had the Sinn for a week, but returned it due to it running really fast. I then went with the Damasko DA36 and I have never regretted it. I hope to get another Sinn one day though.
Damasko has an original ETA movement. The Sinn uses ETA clone Sellita. I own 2 Sinn watches and 4 Damasko watches. All Damasko pieces are more accurate.
This was a great video. I have the DS-30 (all white and black version) and really love it. I think there is something a bit more unique on the DS-30 vs. any of the 556 versions. The difference in the smaller details on the Damasko really make it special. The longer second & min. hand along with the longer hash markers make for a very cool visual. The double marking at "12" make it nice at night (issue on the 556i version). and of course, the case material is just incredible. That all said, the 556 is a bit more versatile (mainly because of the steel band option) and lighter tone vs. the darker tone of the Damasko. However, the bracelet for the DS-30 is AMAZING and far more impressive vs. the H-link from a construction standpoint. So, it really depends on the simple fact of what one person thinks and feels based on looks alone. The Sinn has more "hype" and DS-30 is more of "if you know, you know" kinda feel and I really love that fact as well. Besides, for most of us at this level we have other watches for "nice" occasions (Tudor BB58) so.. the DS-30 is so nice and refreshing from a day to day use case.
That's funny you'd use "if ya know, ya KNOW" bc that's always how I've felt about SINN vs trendy, Insta famous Swiss brands. A Sinn is a watch person's watch. Is Damasko a subset, sub-geek version of Sinn?!? IDK, but since getting my 104i St Sa A (grey/H-link) I'm sort of trending toward a German tool watch collecting niche¹, next up: the 556i RS. ¹Of course, with a couple G-shock solar/atomic quares [GW5009U-1JF and a GW5610U + Ti mod kit] and a couple 1of1 mod builds - oh who am I kidding, I'll keep all my watches and just wear the Sinns... 🤷🏼 Yes, it is an addiction, but no one is getting hurt.
For me it's Sinn I just love a beautiful engine under the hood The case material isn't going to affect my decision on this comparison Thanks for another fantastic review my friend 👍
I don’t understand what “engine under the hood” you are talking about. Damasko uses original ETA movements. Sinn uses ETA clone Sellita ones. I own 2 Sinn and 4 Damasko watches. The Damasko watches are all more accurate. Want a timegrapher shots?
The owner of Damasko used to build cases for Sinn. I am surprised by your comments on the crown comparison. I own a Damasko and a Sinn 104. The Damasko uses a proprietary crown system. The pop-in/ pop-out when I unscrew the crown is so superior to my Sinn 104. I’ve owned the Damasko longer than the Sinn, yet I’m having to send the Sinn in for service due to the crown action. When I unscrew the Sinn, there is no discernible difference between the position for winding and the date. From an aesthetic perspective, my take is that the ice-hardened matte finish limits the Damasko to just a tool watch while the Sinn (especially the 556) presents itself as more capable in any dress situation. The other thing that makes Damasko next-level tooly… their anti-magnetism cage is proprietary and adds a superior level of anti-mag. Thanks again for the great content! I’d like to buy a 556 A. I’m worried about the crown issues I’m having with my 104 reoccurring with the 556…
Thats strange, Ive had a few Sinn 556 models and the standout feature has been the crowns, all have been excellent. As for the Damasko, the crown is superb as well, however in usage the Sinn was ever so slightly more of a refined feel.., could be I have a faulty Damasko crown maybe?? Nonetheless, thanks for sharing
@@PeterKotsa Thanks, Peter! You’ve likely handled way more watches in your life than I have! :) My comparison is one watch to one watch. To truly know if my experience is the norm, I’d likely need to put hands on more Sinn and Damasko watches. I really like Damasko’s story… I really appreciate that 556A aesthetic!
@Peter Kotsa. You may have had a faulty crown on the Damasko 🤔🤔🤔 Who knew mechanical advancements in outdated technology could stir up such passions??? 🤣🤣🤣
Very hard to choose… I like them both. The Sinn uses the Selitta SW 200 as their site states. The price of the Sinn in EU is 990 euros with leather strap and 1190 euros with bracelet and the price of the Damasko is 1150 euros with leather strap. I would go with Sinn for the overall look!!!! Nice video as always!!!!
Spot on review. I own both. The ds30 with the blue face and the orange sec hand and the 556 rs. Both are incredible watches at their price points. I like them both equal but for some reason the 556 get more time on my wrist. Can't go wrong with either though. Again great review on both
Love Sinn and I just finished viewing your recent review of the new Sinn colors 🥰 This DAMASKO version is nice an simple with great specs. Regardless of the price, I feel it’s a nice “bang-for-your-buck” type of watch for a great solid build. Peace of mind when you wear it as an every day watch, mostly if you change the strap for a solid rubber version. Thanks for sharing these two great brands. I feel DAMASKO will be quick to gain market share and “top-of-mind”.
I’ve had 3 u1s and currently have a U2. That being said my dc 68 and Dc80 are just better watches all around. The case finishing is hands down the toughest I’ve ever owned. I was a sinn guy, I’m a damasko guy now, but you can’t go wrong with either
As far as I am aware of Damasko and Sinn, there is some rough information kn the video. 1) the entire Damasko submarine steel case also has been hardened to 850 Vickers. Hardened throughout, not just surface ice-hardening (Sinn Tegiment). 2) Damasko is not selling the DS30 with eta movement anymore, but has made some substantial enhancements and calls it inhouse now. As well as the name now id: DK30. The price is around 1.600€ for that. 3) a nice little to-know is that until the beginning of the 2000’s Damasko has been producing watch cases for… yes indeed: Sinn. They produced and supplied hardened cases for Sinn. Since then Sinn is co-owner of SUG, a case manufacturer. I personally prefer Damasko technology.
They actually very recently released the DS line again, probably because of supply issues with the in-house movement because the DK line cant be ordered at the moment.
I have a grey dial DS-30 and its one of my most worn watches. Its 100% scratch proof, thin and very versatile. Its a strap monster. The only flaw I have found is the lume, but its good enough to read at night, all night long but its a bit uneven.
Great comparison. I wish you had been able to do a more apples to apples design comparison against the 556i, instead of the 556a shown here. Damasko has better specs in this price range, but the Sinn (556i - not shown here) offers a much cleaner and more versatile design. This is critical for the quintessential everyday watch, where versatility matters more than hardened steel. If the Sinn gets dinged, so what? The Damasko has the hardened steel, which is fine, but the bead blasted case and the crosshair on the dial give it a heightened tool watch appearance that’s less versatile than the 556i. Sinn’s specs are still plenty overbuilt compared to much pricier watches in this everyday watch category. Finally, the price comparison does change when you compare the price of the 556 and the DK30 on a bracelet. The hardened Damasko bracelet, which you have to buy separately, adds a lot more to the cost than a 556 bought on a bracelet. I’m not bashing Damasko. They make great watches, but a lot of the arguments for Damasko center around specs which are kind of unnecessary. Personally, I care more that this genre of watch can be worn in more situations, and that’s why I own a 556i and wear it more than any watch in my collection.
Hiya Pete! Very interesting comparison video! For me it's hard do decide which one I like better. What I prefer on the Sinn is the dial layout. The Damasko on the other hand has the better proportioned handset compared to the Sinn. The hands on the latter are a touch short, especially the minute hand. However both watches are very attractive.
Demaskos are great because you order most models (directly from Damasko) with no date versions which is my preference with mechanical watches. They also have a plethora of options to manufacture you perfect watch...
I own both brands and like them both. I feel like the German design/aesthetic overall is better with the Sinn but in my experience the Damasko runs better, gets more compliments and I feel more powerful wearing it (could be the ICE steel braclet is heavy 🤣)..
I’ve seen the Sinn multiple times here in a local dealer, but every time I just couldn’t make myself to pull the trigger. Something doesn’t really click with me about the watch, in particular the short hands and the date window (not a fan of date complication). Eventually I bought a Damasko DK30 on bracelet that costs twice as expensive, since I bought it from overseas dealer and got hit with a good amount of custom tax. Very happy with the watch, fact is it replaces my Tudor BB36 as everyday wear.
I own both and they are keepers all the way. (Mine are DS30 with standard colors and 556I M on fine-link bracelet.) You wanna know something? Now I'm looking for a 556I on H-link on the secondary market. These 3 are simply The best everyday watches for a 3-hander fan like myself. German quality and pure understatement, comfortable and robust. (The sub-steel in DS30 is obviously the best material. Period. It's basically indestructible and scratch resistant to a staggering degree. The finishing is also second to none...) I could talk this models extensively, but let me mention just one more thing. The Dx bracelet. Only seen it in videos, looks to me like an unbeatable German engineering masterpiece. A pricey one though...
I like the Damasko, I think I prefer the dial to the Sinn (just personal preference), and I like the little pop of colour. Although I agree with date comment. I like a date on my watches but do prefer them at either 4:30 or 6.👍
@@PeterKotsa my 556i has a top grade ETA in it. I’m that’s been confirmed at a service too. It’s a slightly older model as I believe the newer ones use the Sellita.
Interesting thread in the '316L vs submarine steel' in the Sinn topic over at WUS. Contributions to read are by member TrickTock. Although dating from around 2010 the information is still solid and relevant.
I have DS30. Very happy. Sinn now use SW200 on 556 while Damasko ETA on DS30 and their own manufacturer movement with DK30 which is more expensive. Damasko used to make the cases for Sinn so I don't think either copying from the other. Both solid performers and their accuracy easily leaving Seiko in the shade.
Correct, well said. The gentleman who left the comment about the cheap copy was talking about my title, I had a typo and spelled the word DAMASAKO (instead of Damasko) My oversight 😊
I own a later DS30 with the ETA 2824-2 movement. Apart from it running fast and needing to go back to Damasko for adjustment, it is a perfect daily wear. There are ZERO marks on the case and the legibility is amazing at all angles. I am tempted by their own in-house movement version, as their engineering is typically German - unpretentious and thorough.
Yeah, mine is running +8 - 10spd. I need to send it in for regulation. Tho, I found a watchmaker here in the USA that will do it for $50. Faster vs. sending to Damasko
@@travisharrisphotography As an update, I recently got my DS30 back from Damasko for running too fast (+1.3mins p.d) and during the 4 month wait I also decided to buy a 556iRS. Both are fantastic value for what they offer but different in my eyes. The casework of the DS30 is leagues ahead of the 556 for durability - not a single mark after 12 months, whereas the 556 has multiple tiny marks on the case after 4 months daily wear. Both run +4secs per day. The resistance to casework scratching is important to me and is why I am losing the love for my Grand Seiko 9F, which is now a dress watch! Interestingly the standard Seiko Divers I have all seem to resist fine scratches and marking way better than the Sinn. Combining the engineering, design, accuracy, subtlety and real-world wearability the Damasko offers, I find it a hard combination to better. In a ‘house fire’ scenario, of the 10 watches I own, the Damasko would be the one I reach for (with the Tuna 7C46 300m in the other!) 🤣
@@mpicanza4491Im tryin to decide between this two. I think that the Sinn is more versatile, but the Damasko as a more casual watch I think is almost perfect. I think I would prefer the Damasko, but I’m just a bit afraid that it will be a little big for my 6.5” wrist as a daily, while the Sinn I think it would wear better on my wrist. Any recommendations?
@@Juanjo191 I find the Damasko a better fit than the Sinn, because the case thickness is uniform on the Damasko which means it sits flat on my wrist and the lugs curve downwards, so any straps i use wrap around my wrist better. The 556i sits up more and the lugs come straight out which , so i don’t use NATO style straps as it makes the watch sit even higher. Visually, I prefer a watch close to the wrist, so I prefer to wear the DS30. The DS30 is an easy daily wear and it is lighter feeling. These factors are just as important as the external case size. Of the two watches the DS30 fits smaller then it’s diameter and the 556 fits bigger!!
Sinn use Top (Premium) grade Sellita movements throughout the range now except for a few Chronographs. In the UK Sinn offers first class after sales service which needs to be considered.
Very nice to have this comparison, as I have often wondered about this. I feel one of the brands eventually should see my custom when I do decide I want to upgrade what I call my 'beater'. However, other hardened watches might have similar claims, such as the nice RZE you reviewed here... (Actually perhaps my tool watch preference goes to the Horage Autark, but quite a different price point yet. I digress.) What I noticed is that despite the mm difference in thickness, the Damasko appears to sit quite high above the wrist. Is the stiffness of the strap pushing it up in that shot?
Yeah I saw it Rico Being a space fan from a young age I studied engineering hoping to become an astronaut, ended up following a different path (photography) Nonetheless, as for the watch itself, very cool but I am a little disappointed they removed the tachymeter from it as the previous generation had But overall a very different and modern take 👍
Peter, I don’t know how you pick your watches, but they ALL have buttery smooth latching action, be they $300 or $3000 models. I am jealous, as my Sinn 556´s screwing in of the crown is okay, but nothing to write home about.
The Damasko latching system is quite different than most crowns. You can feel the difference between the two brands and hands down Damasko is the winner. It has an almost surgical precision-like actuation that is unlike any other crown I have ever operated.
Thats strange, Ive had a few Sinn's and the crowns have been great The only thing I found is you have to turn them a tad backwards before they latch on, but the screw down process is indeed very smooth
@@PeterKotsa To be fair I've never handled the 556 but the crown on my U50 (although never binding up) is not the smoothest in operation. This may be due more to crown placement and size than any fault of construction though. I've found when you operate the Damasko crowns to screw down there seems to be a "spring" attached or something which makes threading smoother and more precise. It's more of a tactile thing I guess. There is nothing delicate about Damasko which is why I think Sinn has a broader appeal.
Hi pete any chance of reviewing a nivada grenchen? They have a watch called super Antarctic which is sublime which i think you would appreciate, be nice to see a full review on it.
I have a DK30 and I have zero issue with it so far. Accuracy is about +6spd which is alright for me. Not as good as my 5 year-old DK15 (A-35 movement) that runs +3spd consistently. You might be already aware that the A-26 movement (the one in DK30) is based on ETA-2824, with heavy modifications especially in the winding system. What I can tell you is winding the A-26 is not as buttery smooth as winding ETA-2824, it feels way more gritty. But that’s all about it, it works perfectly fine.
I really think literally all watches that have just a date (not day date) complication should just put it at 6 o clock. The sector dial on the damasko is awesome but it is kinda ruined by the date window even though the window is very well executed.
I was torn between 556A and DS30 two years ago. I went with the damasko DS30 and do not regret my decision at all. The submarine steel is very interesting and smooth. It adds to the value proposition as well for a tool/pilot watch. The dial layout in my opinion is easier to read and the date window is where it’s supposed to be. The ultra thin case is another huge plus. But overall what drew me to damasko was the value over the Sinn in technology. Crown tech, sub steel, metallurgy etc…a Sinn 556A may still be a watch I would purchase in the future but only if the prices fall significantly to
So the Damasko is cheaper on the strap but more expensive on the bracelet. They sell the bracelet for 700 bucks. I still think the Damasko is a better overall buy because of the hardened coating
I’m so close to finally pull the trigger on my one watch collection. Either a Sinn 556A or a great deal on a 856, both on bracelets. The Damasko is THE logical contender. The specs for the money, Damasko all day if it wasn’t for a face only a mother can love. Looking at the two in this video (which is brilliantly done btw) the Damasko looks like “Sinn beat us to it but let’s get it as close as possible without getting sued.” And those crosshairs… Just my opinion. YMMV.
Id say so. Ive bounced my DS30 off the door jambs with a loud clunk more than once. The thing still looks brand new. if you google pics of both by owners, you will find dinged up Sinns, but so far I have not seen a dinged up Damasko except one... and that guy wore it while crashing a motorcycle.
Not exactly. Sinn depreciates just as bad as any watch including Damasko. If you think a little bit however the Damasko will look like new when you decide to sell it so it will fetch you a better price than the Sinn guaranteed! And yes, the better steel matters a lot!
I'm not into either brand to be fair. I think German watches although well made always seem to be a bit sterile . I do however like the glashutte sea q , as it looks great. At 10k though it's more than I'm willing to spend on a watch. Just based on design I'd go for the sinn, it's just better looking . What is submarine steel though and how does it compare to say rolexes 904 or seikos new ever bright , for hardness ? It looks more like titanium in colour ? Anyway cool vid as always mate !!!
I have both a U50 and a DA47 and both are great. The Damasko is a tank and will remain virtually impervious to damage. The Sinn will get lots of 'character' though. 😉
Sinn has cheap build in its lower end models. All Damasko watches however are virtually indestructible and have original ETA movements vs. ETA clone Sellita in the Sinn pieces.
I don't think you need to choose between the 2 brands. They both have a place in your collection. Because it all depends on the model. Sinn does hardened steel on selected models, Damasko does it on all of their models. Sinn and damasko both do higher magnetic resistance, but also on selected models. Temperature resistance is where Sinn has the edge, but there also on selected models. The leading german brands in my opinion who goes that extra mile to give you a solid instrument. Nomos and Meistersinger are dress watch brands, and as much as i love Muhle Glashutte's design-language, they don't hold a candle to Sinn and Damasko's quality.
The Damasko hands and submarine steel are probably the deal makers over the Sinn. I'd love to see Demasko deliver a top quality steel bracelet to go with it so that it can be the whole package.
Damasko needs a bracelet that isn't a $ 800 dollar option.... The Clasp on Sinn needs an update but I'm a bracelet guy and the H-Link is actually nice .
I tried several models on from both brands at different proce points and for me personally Sinn is better which is ehy i own a 756 Diapal that is subjective though. Sinn also has a better range including complications and not just pilot watches, sinn appears to have more and better tech not just fancy steel and a pusher system , Which are more objective reasons . Both are excellent though and are brilliant choice for a watch . Sinn does love it certifications too win DIN everything tbh not sure if damasko do.
I owned this two watches at the same time and compared them often. In the end I kept the Sinn 556a. It feels a little more refined while still being very tool like. Plus contrasts, legibility and crystal clarity are better, actually Sinn is better in this than almost every other brand in the market. I did like the proportions the DS30, bigger, thinner, it had more presence. A big plus for the Sinn was the H-link bracelet. At the moment there was no option for a bracelet with the DS30.
I'm sure the Damasko is a great watch technically, but aesthetically, it does nothing for me. To my eyes the Sinn is a beauty. A more refined tool watch that has a certain je ne sais quoi that's lacking in the Damasko.
Sinn makes great watches but in recent years they've lost the great price they used to have... Objectively the Damasko is a better deal.... But gotta say there is something about the Sinn that can't be quantified.... A mix of history, design, presence...
Looks like Peter Kotsa has a Sinn bias. I read all the comments and Mr. Kotsa likes only the Sinn fanboys and girls. My question is, if the Damasko has better case material, original ETA movement vs. ETA clone Sellita in the Sinn, and is less expensive, how come the Sinn is a better watch? The aesthetics is a subjective thing so I get some like the one, others the other. At the end of the day a true watch enthusiast should be objective and draw conclusions based on facts.
I like the simplicity and clarity of the DS30 dial vs the Sinn 556 A, though I would say 556 I are comparable. I do like the very solid and stark handset on the Domasko. Now if either brand can size it down but keep the lug width, that would be awesome, a real Rolex explorer contender. 35-36mm case with 20mm lugs...
It's the after-sales customer treatment for warranty repairs and servicing, where it all falls apart for Damasko; they are truly appalling. Every penny you save when compared to buying a Sinn, will be utterly meaningless when you have a defective watch that they won't fix nor supply parts for. The watches are great and I miss mine, having bought two Sinns in an attempt to replace it, but they'd need to make a significant improvement to their customer treatment before I'd ever consider buying another watch from them, I sold mine at a loss to get rid of it, after years of sending it back and forth to them. Reliability problems abound with their in-house or modified movements, I had that trouble, plus an issue with rust on their proprietary steel. Even if your watch doesn't present with faults during the first few years of ownership, it will eventually need servicing and they don't have a comprehensive world wide network of service centres, it's very amateurish and pot luck depending upon your location. Pay cheap, pay twice. It's a mistake to assume that a watch's specification on paper = quality.
I don’t know where you buy your watches and they treat you so badly but I bought all 4 my Damasko watches from Marc at Long Island Watch company. There is no place in the world with a better customer service. Truly fantastic. I also own 2 Sinn watches I purchased from Watchbuys. Great company with a great support too. So at the end of the day it matters where you buy your watches from.
Damasko for me. Better case, better crown, the second hand goes further and the have 12 o'clock differential so better for orientation where sinn don't on the indices versions. So f sinn the mother fs. Over prices mother fs.
In house movements are problematic and not really in house.. just modified
Damaskos new movement was completely designed by them and made in house.
Do you know if the bracelet is also made from submarine steel or regular with ice hardening?
@@drmanhattan225 all sub steel for the DS or DK models, really looks unified on the bracelet
It looks like a German tank😂😂

I bought a DK 30 about 7 months ago - built like a tank ... runs +2 / day.
Incredibly readable.
Highly recommend.
After a whole lot shopping recently for a new 'field style' watch, I am now thinking about a DK30. Nice review. DS30 is back on the market (available with bracelet). Looks much better in person than in pictures thank goodness. The thinness, tough steel, & impressive crown make it a winner. Mine gets so much wrist time because it is so darn comfortable.
Damasko has been on my radar for quite some time. I especially like the DC-80 chronograph with the central minute function.

I just picked up DS30 green second hand, black matt dial stunning 💚
Finally someone has the hutzpah to say it. But really, can’t go wrong either way. Love these brands, really want to give my Sinn a Damasko brother.
Great overview. I ended up going for the Dk37. For a bit more money you get the ice hardened steel, and anti magnetic protection.
I prefer a little color and that green second hand on the Damasko does it for me.
The green seconds is probably my favorite of all the options 👌
Great video! My next Sinn will be the 556A rs, red second hand.
100% agree@@hgr.7857
excellent review and comparison, hits all the important points. both nice watches.
For me it's Sinn I just love a beautiful engine under the hood The case material isn't going to affect my decision on this comparison Thanks for another fantastic review my friend 👍
Thanks for watching Michael
A beautiful engine under the hood? It’s a 2824… like on the damasko…. As entry level swiss as it can be… can be found on 200€ watches
@@augustinf I think/hope he’s referring to the exhibition case back on the 556. 🤞😉
My comparison is one watch to one watch. To truly know if my experience is the norm, I’d likely need to put hands on more Sinn and Damasko watches.
I really like Damasko’s story… I really appreciate that 556A aesthetic!
@Peter Kotsa. You may have had a faulty crown on the Damasko 🤔🤔🤔
Who knew mechanical advancements in outdated technology could stir up such passions??? 🤣🤣🤣
Are there any damasko watches with increase anti magnetic protection like the 856?
@@drmanhattan225 The DA36 has an anti-magnetic inner cage that provides protection up to 80,000 A/m or about 1005 gauss…
I have the sinn 556 and 104. Superb!!! I’ve wanted a Damasko as well, and now I guess I have to! 😆
Great video, sir !! Thanks!
Thanks for watching Artie
Again great review on both
Thanks for posting this excellent video, Peter! 🍻👍
🙏
Love Sinn and I just finished viewing your recent review of the new Sinn colors 🥰
This DAMASKO version is nice an simple with great specs.
Damasko watches have better quality than Sinn. Sinn has done more marketing. That’s the difference. For people in the know it is Damasko!
True, that being said, I love the look of the Sinn, its just classically beautiful
Damasko used to make the cases for Sinn....but between the two compared here, I am leaning towards the Damasko
Demaskos are great because you order most models (directly from Damasko) with no date versions which is my preference with mechanical watches. They also have a plethora of options to manufacture you perfect watch...
Hey Peter, Damasko offers very nice watches but at near the same price SINN is the winner for me. I own the Sinn 104 and it is very good! Nice video
Me too, Ive been eyeing out some Damasko's, but for me the Sinn brand speaks to me
@@PeterKotsa keep up the great content! If you get a chance check out my channel Would love to hear your thoughts
I own both brands and like them both. I feel like the German design/aesthetic overall is better with the Sinn but in my experience the Damasko runs better, gets more compliments and I feel more powerful wearing it (could be the ICE steel braclet is heavy 🤣)..
Really through and informative review. Well done, mate.
Glad it was helpful 👍
I’ve seen the Sinn multiple times here in a local dealer, but every time I just couldn’t make myself to pull the trigger. Something doesn’t really click with me about the watch, in particular the short hands and the date window (not a fan of date complication).
Eventually I bought a Damasko DK30 on bracelet that costs twice as expensive, since I bought it from overseas dealer and got hit with a good amount of custom tax. Very happy with the watch, fact is it replaces my Tudor BB36 as everyday wear.
This is the best everyday, do everything, go anywhere watch available. My humble opinion.
I will pick the Damasko DS30 any day. Better watch. I own both by the way, so no bias here.
Love my Sinn U50T. Once you have the scratch resistant finish...it is hard to give it up!
I like the Damasko, I think I prefer the dial to the Sinn (just personal preference), and I like the little pop of colour. Although I agree with date comment. I like a date on my watches but do prefer them at either 4:30 or 6.👍
Both look fabulous Peter!
I know 😊
In the Sinn is a top grade sellita or ETA, adjustable in 5 position's. Keep up the good work
I stand corrected, it is a Top Grade ETA in mine as well..sorry for the oversight..😊
@@PeterKotsa my 556i has a top grade ETA in it. I’m that’s been confirmed at a service too. It’s a slightly older model as I believe the newer ones use the Sellita.
My damasko has developed the manual wind problem that is common with the ETA movement. It was well regulated.
What problem is that?
@@teleguy5699 manual wind slips.
Interesting thread in the '316L vs submarine steel' in the Sinn topic over at WUS. Contributions to read are by member TrickTock. Although dating from around 2010 the information is still solid and relevant.
Just stopped watching, just to say b4 it over, I love the pop on the second hand and the date wheel, let’s continue 🤙🏻
The gentleman who left the comment about the cheap copy was talking about my title, I had a typo and spelled the word DAMASAKO (instead of Damasko)
My oversight 😊
The Damasko uses original ETA movements. I own 4 of them and two Sinn watches. Damasko watches are all more accurate. Want a timegrapher shots?
@@drnick40 That's not necessary! Damasko watches do have an enthusiastic following so they must be doing something right.
I’m curious which has better antimagnetic stuff .
Yes the leather strap is still fresh and new, once it settles it should be fine
Bro check out the 2022 fortis stratoliner just came out a few days ago. Column wheel in-house movement it’s a real cracker
Yeah I saw it Rico
Being a space fan from a young age I studied engineering hoping to become an astronaut, ended up following a different path (photography)
Nonetheless, as for the watch itself, very cool but I am a little disappointed they removed the tachymeter from it as the previous generation had
But overall a very different and modern take 👍
Peter, I don’t know how you pick your watches, but they ALL have buttery smooth latching action, be they $300 or $3000 models.
Thats strange, Ive had a few Sinn's and the crowns have been great
The only thing I found is you have to turn them a tad backwards before they latch on, but the screw down process is indeed very smooth
Great comparison. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Hi pete any chance of reviewing a nivada grenchen? They have a watch called super Antarctic which is sublime which i think you would appreciate, be nice to see a full review on it.
It'd be interesting to get your thoughts on the new in-house movement Damasko has put into their DK-30s.
But that’s all about it, it works perfectly fine.
i own both brands. a damasko DA44 and a sinn 104, both brands are great. for some reason sinn has become the watch communities darling
Don't have either brand, but have had my eyes on them for some time. I lean a bit more to the Sinn.
Crown tech, sub steel, metallurgy etc…a Sinn 556A may still be a watch I would purchase in the future but only if the prices fall significantly to
You picked the better watch. I own both and so can tell.
So the Damasko is cheaper on the strap but more expensive on the bracelet. They sell the bracelet for 700 bucks. I still think the Damasko is a better overall buy because of the hardened coating
It's nice, but I'd have the Sinn. Version with the red second hand I think.
YMMV.
Great video thanks but that's the old Damasko you have last years version.
The new Damasko Dk version has a in house movement.
Yes I know, thats why I compared these two as they are closer in price-point and spec
cheers
Does the 'better steel' make a difference in reality? I think the extra you pay for the Sinn you will most likely get back on resale.
Hi Peter, do you have a Sinn dealer you recommend in Melbourne?
Absolutely, Fabio from TIMEONLY he is an absolute gentleman and very reputable
www.timeonly.com
I'm not into either brand to be fair. I think German watches although well made always seem to be a bit sterile . I do however like the glashutte sea q , as it looks great. At 10k though it's more than I'm willing to spend on a watch. Just based on design I'd go for the sinn, it's just better looking . What is submarine steel though and how does it compare to say rolexes 904 or seikos new ever bright , for hardness ? It looks more like titanium in colour ? Anyway cool vid as always mate !!!
Cheers Martin, thanks for watching mate
@@PeterKotsa, no worries m8, I'm at work , got to pass the time somehow fella !!!
@@martinharrison4245 hahaha, champion 👍
What about timegrapher test ?
Aesthetically I prefer the Sinn
Hey peter, you should check out the tissot prx
Thanks Andres
Why?
No mention of the Damasko crown tech which I think is significant.
True, forgot to mention that...good tech
How much can each worth at a pawn shop ?
Should have shown the Damasko bracelet....
I'm pretty sure that Sinn are using top grade movements in their watches, not elaboré. Otherwise great video!
Correct, mine is a Top grade ETA as well, I stand corrected 😊
The Damasko hands and submarine steel are probably the deal makers over the Sinn. I'd love to see Demasko deliver a top quality steel bracelet to go with it so that it can be the whole package.
Have you seen the Damasko bracelet? It's absolutely amazing.
The Damasko fit is perfect, what size is your wrist?
18cm
@@PeterKotsa Thank you for the reply
Damasks dial seems a bit more busy to me. I would prefer both without a date window.
You can get the DK series without a date window, although at the moment the DK series is not for sale
Damasko needs a bracelet that isn't a $ 800 dollar option.... The Clasp on Sinn needs an update but I'm a bracelet guy and the H-Link is actually nice .
I own both brands. They are true tool watches.
I have a Sinn EZM3❤
They are lovely pieces joking aside , just a little above my pay grade
😊
Damasko hands down after owning both
Damasko are quite nice, but I'd still choose a Sinn.
I'm sure the Damasko is a great watch technically, but aesthetically, it does nothing for me. To my eyes the Sinn is a beauty. A more refined tool watch that has a certain je ne sais quoi that's lacking in the Damasko.
Damaskoのケースはテギメント加工を含め、Sinn856と共有しているように見えます。
856を持っていますが、Damaskoの方が低コストで導入できますね。
Sinn makes great watches but in recent years they've lost the great price they used to have... Objectively the Damasko is a better deal.... But gotta say there is something about the Sinn that can't be quantified.... A mix of history, design, presence...
Nice watch
Yes!!
Sinn all day. The only tangible characteristic that the Damasko is better is the steel type, all the rest the Sinn wins plus the heritage
What’s your wrist size?
18cm
The Damasko is really nice, but I think for a few extra dollars I'd stick with the Sinn, with the name recognition.
Damasko for me. Better case, better crown, the second hand goes further and the have 12 o'clock differential so better for orientation where sinn don't on the indices versions.
So f sinn the mother fs. Over prices mother fs.
