Thanks for the video. As a 991A owner, this
feature is now clear to understand. 73 de W2CH Ray New Hampshire.

Thanks Chuck, I really appreciate it. I consider you very smart, for radio stuff. So that means a lot.

That's really smart Chris. I like having the MCH now on mine like you have yours. Thanks for the great tip!

That’s great, did you find it a pain in the past. It really needs a dedicated hardware button to do this.

@@digitalanaloguehamradio It was very annoying to try to find the right button to press and often while scrolling, if I forgot to lock the tuning knob, I'd knock things out of memory mode or whatever frequency I was using. This is much simpler. And I agree, some dedicated knobs would be very useful.

Some good pointers. I've mostly just been using the hand mic to switch channels. 73

Good tips. I am considering replacing my FT-897 with the 991A and have this Q: When I first received the 897 I programmed a cw frq and mode channel, and an SSB frq and mode channel for every HF band 160-10 (and VHF/UHF channels of interest too). After I got my initial menu and memories set up, my daily operation was easy by simply selecting a desired memory channel and then moving the main tuning dial to any frequency in that band and I was ready to operate in the same mode. IOW, when the main tuning dial was moved the rig was then operating in VFO mode on the desired band and mode. Is this same scheme possible on the 991A? I'm a bit of a casual 'appliance' operator and my eyesight is not as it once was, so my goal is simplicity in operation...as I now have with the 897. 73

I have contacted several of my subscribers, and I can confirm that it does do the above it tunes away from the channel in Vfo mode. my radio is in storage as I am moving house, not done it myself, but several people told me it was possible. Hope that helps

@@digitalanaloguehamradio Thank-you for your reply. I really want to like the 991A, but if it is really cumbersome to operate it would be a big disappointment. I have been watching many clips on the rig and have yet to see this shown. A lot of presenters show-off all the gee-whiz stuff...and that's okay. But using the rig as I have descried is super easy for day to day use. Click to a memory channel for the band and mode, then Tune up/down for a signal or place to make a call. BTW, I like to looks of the FT-710, but really want 2/440 all-mode all-in-one. 73

I knew there was a reason I liked my Kenwood that way. The choices are in the menus, holding the button hate 0:55 menus!

Any advice please, how to extract content of memory chanell into VFO mode A/B? So different from Kenwood..Thanks, Nermin S58DX

I would imagine if you are in a memory channel, and you just move the vfo, all of the parameters of the channel will be present at the vfo. I believe there is a menu item that toggles it on and off

I wonder if you could use this to make it easier to get in and out of digital modes.

Found an anomaly. I have 27.78125 FM programmed in a memory, If I use the CH Dial set at 10kHz it either jumps to 27.790,00 or 27.780,00 instead of 27.79125 etc. so instead of being able to use CH Dial to move through the channels I'd have to program each one using up valuable memory slots. Before anyone comments.. the radio is NOT enabled for TX on these bands. 73 de Mark M0ADH

Thanks for documenting it here. I wonder if anyone else has found similar problems. You can temporarily wideband it for temporary frequency. Have a look on UA-cam.

@@digitalanaloguehamradio I know how to wideband it, just chosen not to so as to avoid any licence breaches lol. Thanks for the videos , all good stuff.

Yes, and that’s the beauty of it you can put your favourites at the bottom different ones for each mode
