I know right! As far as I’m concerned the natural hair community succeeded. Black women are now wearing their own hair straight instead of perming it. We succeeded.
@@tunzlunzagreed, we are not solely relying on wigs, weaves and relaxers which are definitely fine and fun. But we should also feel beautiful in our own hair.
Wow 11 years, that is massive, I made it 5 years and then did my first silk press. Doing another 3 years before my next silk press. Your hair turned out so beautiful.

Go ahead natural girls! You are allowed! You’ve been teaching us how to style/love/wear our natural hair for years. I think you deserve to reap the fruits of your labor. I’ve seen a lot of natural girls in the community say they want to have fun now and I think that’s good let’s show these natural hair haters that we can have fun with our hair too. Girl. It came out nice! Congrats to you for retaining so much length. Great stylist too, because before you cut it, you can take pics to document the length and then cut later. It looks so nice!!!

Hi Genesis 🙋🏾♀️. I saw the straight hair on TikTok it looks so pretty with curls. As long as you use a good heat protectant getting a silk press should not be an issue.

Been doing hair forever. I remember the first electric flat iron I ever 3:56 purchased in the early 90"s. It was a combination crimping/ flat iron with changeable plates. It was alright but it was bulky and heavy. Nothing like they are now..Flat irons have come a long way since then.

Look that blow-dry look would have been it for me. Your shrinkage is crazy. This is almost 6 to 7 inches of hair we normally do not see.

I think she should have cut more since you don’t ever flat iron it. My hair is dense, but fine strands. I never see all my damage until I straighten, which is usually once a year. I actually am going to try to do it 3-4 times a year for length retention, because I’ve been doing regular trims on just blown out hair, and I haven’t been catching most of my splits. I understand now why straight naturals retain so much length.

Nah I’ll stick to the wig for straight look. I paid over $200+ here in Boston. Went to London for Xmas the next day, and that London weather puffed my press out. Wasted $200+ 😞 I had a throw on wig as a backup thankfully 😅

Beautiful hair. You definitely needed to cut more off. Your major split ends is in the middle. Focus on healthy hair first. A few more inches and you are good to go.
She could've cut way more off, the split ends are just gonna run up the shaft and create more breakage.
Your hair looks good but it's not giving Silk Press! It may be because you have virgin hair... I'm interested in seeing how the next press turns out!
Why is everyone always trying to hang onto long ass see through hair? Cut it and that is what will allow you to retain length .
