Bob Taylor lends his support to Dave Carroll and guitar players everywhere.
Taylor has had an artist relationship with Dave for several years now. In 2006, our owners magazine, Wood&Steel, reviewed Daves CD, Sunday Morning. As weve had an ongoing relationship, we have made the offer to replace and/or further repair his damaged 710ce.
As a Taylor artist, weve offered Dave our support, a choice of a new guitar and to re-repair the damaged 710ce. Dave and his bandmate Julian made the trip to the Taylor factory in July and have met many of our staff. Well also be running a story on Daves experiences in the fall issue of Wood&Steel.

Because United breaks guitars
Nice
United breaks guitars lyrics:
I flew United Airlines on my way to Nebraska
The plane departed, Halifax, connecting in Chicago's "O'Hare".
While on the ground, a passenger said from the seat behind me,
"My God, they're throwing guitars out there"
The band and I exchanged a look, best described as terror
At the action on the tarmac, and knowing whose projectiles these would be
So before I left Chicago, I alerted three employees
Who showed complete indifference towards me
United...
(United...)
You broke my Taylor Guitar
United...
(United...)
Some big help you are
You broke it, you should fix it
You're liable, just admit it
I should've flown with someone else
Or gone by car
'Cause United breaks guitars.
When we landed in Nebraska, I confirmed what I'd suspected
My Taylor'd been the victim of a vicious act of malice at O'Hare
So began a year long saga, of "Pass the buck", "Don't ask me", and "I'm sorry, sir, your claim can go no where".
So to all the airlines people, from New York to New Dheli
Including kind Ms. Irlweg, who says the final word from them is "no".
I heard all your excuses,
And I've chased your wild gooses
And this attitude of yours, I say, must go
United...
(United...)
You broke my Taylor Guitar
United...
(United...)
Some big help you are
You broke it, you should fix it
You're liable, just admit it
I should've flown with someone else
Or gone by car
'Cause United breaks guitars.
Well, I won't say that I'll never fly with you again,
'Cause, maybe, to save the world, I probably would,
But that won't likely happen,
And if it did, I wouldn't bring my luggage
'Cause you'd just go and break it,
Into a thousand pieces,
Just like you broke my heart
When United breaks guitars.
United...
(United...)
You broke my Taylor Guitar
United...
(United...)
Some big help you are
You broke it, you should fix it
You're liable, just admit it
I should've flown with someone else
Or gone by car
'Cause United breaks guitars.
Yeah, United breaks guitars.
Yeah, United breaks guitars.
I'm a little (cough) late to the party, but this was a pretty awesome response to the song!
Mr Taylor, you are a good bloke😊
I'm not in agreement (My opinion) with some people saying Bob Taylor is only doing this to market his brand. His brand has been well marketed for many years, by the quality of his products alone... I really enjoy hearing him speak about the many aspects of his business. Bob Taylor is a good man.
Then Andy took over and started making overpriced polished turds with cute names for the woods he used.
I'm not disagreeing with you but if he were marketing his brand, is that a bad thing or inappropriate? I don't think so. You can have a "foot" in both camps, and still be acceptable. Btw, I do agree with you that his sentiment does seem to be altruistic, whilst also using the manhandling of the guitar as a "genius" marketing strategy. Taylor does make awesome guitars. I❤️🎸🇦🇺
@matt8863
Yeah, he's a good man - good at fattening his own wallet! This was clearly a big fat infomercial and nothing less. "Your guitar is broken? Send it our way - we live for fixing your guitars and making that money, honey!" So pathetically obvious that he just wants to look like a nice caring guy when actually he just wants to use this incident as a way to get his company out there.
@Lisa Hinton, at least everyone in the world isn't as cynical as you are. Who hurt you so much that you can't see any good in people? Yes he is marketing his brand, but why is this a bad thing? You can make money, and still not be motivated by greed.
He also gave valuable information to those who don't know they are allowed to take their guitar on board the plane with them.
'We are here for all guitar players, that's what we live for.'
Just great Bob.
I'm so proud to be an owner of one of those great guitars.
12 years and no comment
I'm first and the second
I’m the third
My full respect, sir
I like this guy; no hard sell, very helpful advice, no corporate slogan releated endlessly. Go Taylor Guitars!
I've owned a Taylor 710 for over 14 years and when I put on a great set of strings and allow the uninitiated to give it a strum I've seen their eyes about pop out of their head. The
response from Bob Taylor is totally in line with everything I've known the company to be. They have been driven by love of guitars and not the big bucks from the get go. When you buy one, they stay connected with you for life through their free quarterly magazine. They deserve every bit of praise they are getting.
Прошло ещё 14 лет, она ещё жива?
That is great customer relations. I have a Gibson (mind you I suck at guitar) but my teachers always loved my guitar. Anyhow back to Taylor, I love the fact that they took advantage of Daves video to advertise Taylors , but are not pushing to buy their brand, but willing to repair any brand. Great for those who cannot afford Taylors. Brilliant!
you rock Bob.
The 'taking the guitar onto the plane as long as it's in a case' is all well in good, if there is space in the cabin. If you are going to do that, try to fly first class.
I travel a lot, and I've seen many cases surrendered to baggage handlers at the gate (along with people's carry ons), because there was no room left.
At least that way it rides on top, and doesn't have to suffer so much bad handling.
Thai Airways always finds some free space or even untaken seat for my guitar.
It's called "Well AND good". Stupid.
Wrenn Simms Go to acoustic guitar news on Facebook and you’ll find the FDA ruling. Printed out and take it with you from now on
As a flight attendant, I assure you that nobody's guitar has priority storage in a plane's cabin. It can only be stored in the cabin IF you buy an extra seat for it or there is room in an overhead bin when your boarding row or section is called. Sometimes there is room in a closet, sometimes not. Guitars are big. They take up twice the overhead space of a suitcase. This means two less passengers will get to bring on their bags when the flight is full.
MAD RESPECT. proud to own my Taylor!
This is a great video, thank you Taylor Guitars! As a musician myself (bass guitar), I've also heard LOTS of horror stories about guitars not surviving commercial flights. The consensus seems to be that heavy-duty aluminum frame flight cases, such as those advertised in Musician's Friend and elsewhere are best to use if you want to transport your instrument in checked baggage, but it's good to know that they CAN be carried on, too. Thank you again Mr. Taylor for this valuable information.
Way to go Bob Taylor. Thanks for the info on traveling with my guitar on an airline. :)
Just an FYI, the TSA may allow an item through screening, but that does not necessarily mean that an airline has to allow it on their plane.
Leslie Garcia yes it does. She my post earlier, Above.
Hands down the best current production guitars out there. I own one, a claro walnut backed model. It plays effortlessly and resonates incredibly. Keep producing guys, you do excellent work!
Thirteen years later I still have this song stuck in my head.
Taylor not only makes great guitars, but their customer care and support are second to none. Well done Bob! I'm a proud Taylor guitar owner (and soon to be two when the GS Mini is released).
I'm a Delta F/A and I let all Guitars on my plane especially Taylors since one of my own is a beautiful 614 CE. Thanks Bob for the great products you make. My tip, put them in an overhead close to you as I had one in a coat closet taken by a pax in first class on the way out that belonged to someone in the back of the plane. We tracked him down though.
I've had a Taylor for about 20 years now and it still sounds great...blessings to all
Andy Pratt
Make sure you don't take it on a United flight
Thanks Bob and everyone at Taylor.
Love your guitars (I own two).
Hope to tour the shop again, this fall when I'm out that way.
Dave had initially taken his guitar to a repair shop near him to have his guitar fixed. Some repairs can be done by Taylor trained repair folks and some (like Daves) need more TLC from the Taylor Factory.
excellent, vid. thank you for fostering a community spirit for us guitar lovers.
They just ignore the TSA. I tried. Didn't work
I have a Taylor GS MINI . I love it . And let me tell you . The padded gig bag is great . I take my guitar everywhere . I bike with it . Subway . Bus . Car . Plane . It goes to the park / beach . Oh and i have been out in the rain . I was freaking out about my guitar . Got home . It was dry . The next day . not a water mark on the gig bag . Great work Taylor .
My next guitar will be a Taylor just because of this video. So many companies only care about your money. It's nice to see one taking the time, self-promotion or not, to offer help and advice and include that lil bit about "if it's in a hard shell case and it's damaged, it's been abused." Dave Carroll's attorney just got a woody. Bob Taylor, you really are the man.
Wish I could afford one of these guitars - I like the product and I REALLY like Taylor business practices!
That was an awesome response Bob, way to go
Amazing response!!
Bob, I am glad to see that you are supporting Dave. GREAT job, Joe Lanz, NY
Who does your lighting?
so awesome!
I’ve heard from a musician friend that Bob Taylor is a really great guy and this just confirms that for me! Thank you Bob!
Great video thanks for sharing this info and that is why I love my Taylor Guitars
Great information, it's good to see Taylor as usual is on top of it..keep up the good work
This was so nice why would 80 people dislike this video?
Thank you for the helpful info. and of course your support of Dave!
Thank you very much for this information! I used to never travel with my guitar, which is a pity because I love playing my guitar.
Thats very cool that you do that. I truly cannot wait to get my 1st Taylor.
Bravo Bob! I play your guitars exclusively, and love them. I told Dave I wept openly when I heard the pain and anquish in his voice as he described his terrible ordeal. Following your advice will undoubtedly save countless other players from a similar fate.
thanks youtube for this video ten years later... i really enjoyed all four pixels...
Wow! These Taylor guys have their act together!
I love the fact the Dave gave you guys some great attention and press along with showing the bad customer service from United.
Good luck guys and I'm happy to see the positive effect Dave's video had for Taylor Guitars.
It's good to see a company out there that cares about musicians. Go Taylor!
Wow, great info, thanks for the tip about the TSA policies. I'm gonna try that out.
I bought a Steinberger just so when I travel I could carry it onboard and easily pass by the Flight attendant Gestapos. It works but I miss having an acoustic available.
Class act! All of you, keep on rockin’! 🤘🏻🥰🖤
My Taylor GS8 clearcoat has started peeling on its own in various places. Bob Taylor will you make it right for me?
I'm glad you made such a suggestion, Arhimith-- that's how I got to see this vid.
You guys are great--love my Taylor 12-string
For the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone would dislike this video.
brilliant idea Ed! I'm placing my order now.
You're right. I should have read the whole story. I'm glad his guitar is mended. I'd also be pleased and surprised to see United donate the money to charity. I 'm glad the outcome is good for Dave.

Nice video response. I'll check the website for traveling details. On March/2009 I came back from Florida with a Fender guitar. I didn't carry it with me so I'm glad to know this is possible.
Thanks! Very helpful! You guys rock!
great... flying united with my taylor thursday...
Always had great customer service with my beloved Taylors:)
I assume this policy is still in effect? I like the idea of your fixing all guitars regardless of make or model, and it is good for you too. You get to see what guitars people enjoy aside from your own, and have repairmen able to get inside and see what makes them tick. It seems that with something so simple a concept as an acoustic guitar, the creative juices never stop flowing, and none of us are too old to learn. No matter how good anything is, it can always be made even better. With all of the training out there now for high end guitars, I think we can go backward in time. Those people who brought "golden era" Martins for example never heard anything about keeping guitars humidified. With what we know now, maybe we can start building using those thinner tops again with lighter bracing...I assume they were thinner anyway. An option? I'd sign a release that it's all on me should the guitar develop cracks. Guitars with cracks can still sound absolutely incredible!!
Good news to hear the company did offer to repair his guitar... I probably would have verbalized that in the video because I think a lot of people will miss the text box that contains that information just as I did. However, mad props to your company for doing the right thing. I'm a guitar player in Los Angeles, and to be honest, I had never heard of Taylor guitars before this song. Now that I see what a good company this is, will certainly consider a Taylor for my next guitar!
It's a possibility, but i've never had any trouble during many years of flying w/ my guitar. since a musical instrument is usually counted as a "personal item" and allowed in addition to a regular carryon, i always pack my other bag in such a way as to protect the neck, and i keep an eye on whoever else uses the same compartment.
Very nice from Taylor Guitars! awesome guys!
i played a taylor guitar once. tag value was $2,700. I'll never forget the tone of that acoustic, it definately stood out in the crowd of maybe hundreds of acoustics ive played. Taylor guitars are worth every penny imho =]
Way to go, Taylor! Good job.
Thank you Bob! You are the best! (I am Rickenbacker 4003 owner)
Outstanding! Bob I'm a firm believer that there is far more good than bad in our world, and you and your company have just proven it! I hope this year is a very prosperous one.
God Bless
Glad i watched this video...will be traveling soon with guitar and I'll print out the TSA rules so I can talk my way on with the guitar. Nice to see inside Taylor - great brand
Im here because of the song united guitar broken..😊.. Watching from philippines...
I bought a Taylor Guitar a couple of years ago from Guitar Center. The electrical part for the plug-in somehow stopped working. Always handled it carefully and one day it stopped working. Guitar Center refused to fix it for me. Will you make the repair for me? Thanks!
Thanks, Taylor. Way to go! Good things DO happen at times :-D
♥ ☼ ♥
I think my next acoustic is going to be a Taylor, those guys are awesome!
I posted your support video response to Dave's official myspace page if he has not already seen it on here. He will see it there.
Thanks for supporting Dave and the many guitarist out there that have had their guitars damaged.
This video certainly deserves a big qudos!
I think the marketing act is short of brilliant on the Taylor Guitar's behalf! I'm very impressed at the swift acting with the well considered concept of your reply-video!
Empathy > Relation > Offer advice
Thumbs up!
You can easily get a guitar into the overhead compartments (except for on those smaller turbo-prop planes like Horizon often uses) as long as your guitar is in a soft padded case. I've brought my guitar all over the world that way & it's always been within reach.
You should always get to the gate early & secure a good spot in line so that the overheads aren't all full by the time you get to your seat.
That was really helpful!!
link?
@burden04 He's not putting any blame on Dave Caroll at all in this video. He's helping all guitarists who travel with very useful tips about traveling with a guitar. If the TSA allows a person to take a guitar onboard as a carry-on if it's in its case - but even many airline workers don't know that - then sharing that in this video is a big help.
Taylor makes beautiful guitars and they take the time to show you how to take care of them. The Taylor site has excellent videos that would be helpful to ANY guitar owner. I learned a lot about the role humidity plays in maintaining my Taylor. American Made Quality. I Love My 410 CE 30th Anniv. Edition.
I'm very glad to hear this because I'm just about to buy myself a Talour 24-NSce.
Taylor know what service is all about!
All cred's to you!
Great people. Great soul, great Taylor!!!
How long will the workers keep building him new ones? As long as the soda cans are red , white and blue ones.
Awesome! You Rock. So glad that you support guitar players. I'm buying a Taylor. It was really nice that you supported Dave Carroll.
You guys are awesome!
Good call on the hard case, you really have to work to break a neck in a flight case. And great advice about the TSA regs. Go Bob! Obviously you guys came out of this smelling like roses but it was good to help someone out along the way.
gotta love Taylor Guitars, SD All the way
First class response, Mr. Taylor. I don't happen to play guitar, but I'm certainly going to forward this video to my friends who do! Your company sounds first rate!
He played in Arichat, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia last night (20 mins from my house) and I seen them play, and he thanked them for it, along with mentioning the Jazz place United donated $3000.00 to on his behalf to.
Nice job Bob. Keep making those guitars in the USA. Never compromise. Thanks.
Taylor Guitars are the best and seeing the Owner speak with the production going on in the background makes me proud to own/play one!
I just want to say that this is an example of fantastic use of social media for good customer service. Good job, guys!
I will definitely be buying a Taylor Guitar!!! You folks ARE a class act!!!
I'm a harmonica player, but I also play guitar... I have 3 Gibsons... However, I'm going to check out Taylor Guitars now... It's good to see a company that cares about its musician customers!
Bob
your the man!! Thanks for making the best guitars in the world. I don't own one yet, but an 814CE IS on my bucket list!! Thanks for helping Dave Corroll keep on making his music. I won't ever be flying United, but I will but a Taylor. Good luck with that United!!
Taylor guitars are awesome. And Bob Taylor is a nice guy. If you ever get a chance and you are in the El Cajon area (San Diego), you should take the Taylor factory tour. Very cool.....
I bought a 110ce (approx $800) a few months ago. When I was shopping for a guitar, I tried the 110 along side of Taylors $1,000 to $4,000 models and came back to the 110! That thing sound amazing!!! No other acoustic in that price range come close!!! Bob is the man.
Great response! You guys rock!!! :)
best music maker alive .... i have big respect for him n his way of thinking
a good honest company ,,awesome bob
This video makes me wish I could play guitar! Great company!
Had aTayolr Baby Mahogany guitar. GREAT GUITAR - loved it. Had to give it up due to ARTHRITIS and cannot play anymore. BUT Taylor is not only a top notch instrument but a great company to work with. Superb people making superb instruments. Wish I could play now but alas the ravages of age and arthritis prevent it. If I could, I'd have a Taylor again. Good on Bob Taylor for helping out Dave Carroll. Cheers to Taylor.
Brilliant! Taylor is right on code with customer support.
Taylors rock. I so want one, have for years!
With customer service such as what Bob Taylor is displaying, my next acoustic guitar will definitely be a Taylor! I recently went shopping for a new acoustic, & the cheapest Taylor Baby sounded better than some of the Gibsons & Takamine's costing thousands more. Cheers on a quality instrument, Bob!
And Dave, hang in there, there's millions of musicians behind you on this one!
Thanks for that tip of advice Bob :D i don't know why American airlines are so rigid about carrying on a guitar (w/ case); when i went to Brasil two years ago, both South American airlines that i used allowed me to bring my guitar and store it without a problem...
I love my Taylor Guitar and I love this company! It's pretty clear to me why they are so successful. I can't wait to buy another one!
