I'm not sure I understand the tone of this comment. I don't think I've said, "I love indie films" and I've definitely never presented this channel as an indie film channel. I do want more original films. But I'm also pretty clear about liking action and sci-fi.
You listed off a romantic drama, a raunchy comedy, a quirky comedy, and a comedy playing on racial and horror genre stereotypes. They're original films, but they're also not movies of genres which I immediately gravitate towards.
But more importantly, I missed some movies in June and July because my wife had 3 work trips in 4 weeks. I was a playing single dad during a month where a lot of franchise films and indie films dropped.
I'm not able to see every movie that comes out, and some months are busier than others. I wanted to see Blackberry in May, but I wasn't able to make it work. I wanted to see Astroid City, but the press screening fell on the same night as a different film I was seeing and my wife was out of town the week it released. So it didn't happen.

@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout you know what I apologize. I don't mind you seeing franchise. And I do know that you wanted to see Asteroid City. I just think Past Lives is a film that challenges the idea of life choices and the concept of "The one" and I think it would be interesting of what you're take as a 40 year old married man. Joy Ride is raunchy as hell but it has heart. I understand The Blackening cause it's not all out horror and the twist is predictable. It's more of a comedy for those in the know if modern politics and is a bunch of in jokes that are not meant for white people not in the know to get. I like that you put family first Dom would be very proud lol.

@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout Also i think Blackberry and Past Lives are on streaming. Blackberry is great. When it comes to blockbusters in general this summer is way better than last year were most of the great summer movies were the artsy or streaming movies were the stars with disappointing blockbusters. The only blockbusters last summer that I loved were Top Gun Maverick and Nope unless you count Elvis.

The Prestige gets my vote for the most brilliant film ever made. It is absolutely jam-packed with symbolic references, double-entendres, and it is incredibly audacious in it's exploration and execution of it's ideas and themes. It is rigorously told and filmed at a speed-of-light-like pace, much like Oppenheimer, and that rapid storytelling drives the film forward like a runaway train. Not to mention, it is absolutely devastating once you really get what's going on.

Interstellar is my number 1. I know that the conclusion is a little sentimental/weak to make it a happy ending, but I love the cinematography, the camaraderie/tension between the crew, and the relationship between the dad and his daughter.

Nolan is without question one of my favorite filmmakers of all time, and one of the best working today. For me, Memento, The Dark Knight, and Inception are his three masterpieces, as each excel at different genres, stories, while at the same time are incredibly entertaining in their own right. It demonstrates Nolan’s filmmaking and storytelling abilities to tell mind bending stories that makes you *think* about what you just watched. Memento was such a captivating psycho-thriller, The Dark Knight was an incredible achievement in the superhero genre, and Inception went above and beyond of what people could’ve dreamt of (pun intended) before in cinema. Can’t wait to see Oppenheimer (and maybe Barbie).

    12. Tenet- Never got fully onboard with the overly and needlessly complicated plot and thought John David Washington delivered an incredibly dull performance.
    11. Following- A good student film that serves as a blueprint for future works.
    10. Interstellar- Fantastic first half that is really let down in the back half ending with a disappointing melodramatic ending.
    9. Insomnia- A rock solid thriller with great use of it's unique setting and the effect it has on the main character.
    8. Dunkirk- Awesome spectacle and visual storytelling while still being a personal story.
    7. The Dark Knight Rises- Logic issues be damned, the scale and scope of this movie combined with the powerful ending was a perfect end to a fantastic trilogy.
    6. Batman Begins- The first two acts of this is my favorite stuff Nolan has ever made which makes the conclusion with the poison seem like a letdown compared to the start.
    5. Memento- Brilliant storytelling that is absolutely gripping, loses it's luster a touch when you know what is coming.
    4. The Prestige- Such a wonderful building of tension and stakes with a reveal that I did not see coming. Excellent performances from Bale and Jackman.
    3. Inception- The best action of Nolan's career mixed with a story that keeps you on edge the entire time. Only thing holding it back is that when rewatching the setup portion, although necessary to the film, drags on for a long time.
    2. Oppenheimer- Absolutely blown away and think it perfectly captured Nolan's skill and evolution as a filmmaker. Technically his most impressive with so many techniques and skills used and the complex story has so many layers on different levels that leaves you in awe and deep in thought. All of these story elements come together in such a brilliant way in the last hour. Cillian Murphy is a pure embodiment of Oppenheimer and one of the best performances I have seen in a long time.
    1. The Dark Knight- Perfectly structured, acted, scored, filmed and concluded. It will never get old to me and the ending is such a fantastic crescendo and culmination that leaves you racing with adrenaline every time.

12: following: this is the black sheep of Nolan because of the small budget and being black and white but it's a solid thriller and has some good performances
11: the dark knight rises this is a satisfying conclusion to this phenomenal trilogy I love the climbing the wall scene and Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway in this movie but it's overstuffed overlong and has some plot holes
10: tenet a great spy movie with great performances a phenomenal musical score and great action sequences the standout being the highway sequence but this movie is needlessly convuluted and it requires to much of my attention for me to rewatch a lot
9: memento hot take I think it's very good on first viewing but it doesn't work as well on rewatch
8: insomnia: very solid thriller with two of Nolan's finest performances and it takes place in Alaska and I lived there for a while so I love that element
7: interstellar: a visually impressive movie and probably Nolans most emotional movie great performances and musical score but I don't buy into the third act really
6: Dunkirk another visually dazzling movie with meaningful stakes big epic action and it intertwines three plotlines without being convuluted or confusing
5: Oppenheimer: I will never forget the trinity bomb test sequence and it has fantastic performances and musical score I drove two hours round trip to see this in 70 mm IMAX and it was worth every mile
4: the prestige: a cleverly written movie and one of my favorite third acts with every reveal
3: batman begins a great origin story with great performances and visuals Katie Holmes is very underrated as Rachel Dawes
2: the dark knight a fantastic movie that takes more inspiration from Se7en and heat then it does actual comic book movies of course heath ledger as joker is legendary and Aaron Eckhart is underrated as two face the final monologue never ceases to give me chills
1: inception an example of a great concept executed perfectly it is a visually stunning movie with an all star cast a great journey with the main character and great action this and tdk are in my top 10 of all time

    5. Memento-This isn’t one that I rewatch a whole lot, but that doesn’t stop this movie from being an incredible achievement in cinema that makes for an amazing first and second watches
    4. Interstellar-While I don’t 100% buy into the third act, upon rewatching this movie again last week, I got quite a bit more invested this movie than I ever had because of its ability to be very emotion and thought provoking at the same time
    3. Inception-Objectively, this is Nolan’s masterpiece because of its amazing special effects, fantastic cast, memorable set pieces, big ideas, great journey for DiCaprio, and its ability to be incredibly intelligent while never being indulgent
    2. Batman Begins-In my mind, this is the definitive origin story for my all time favorite superhero because it’s able to be very true to the Bruce Wayne/Batman character while having Nolan’s storytelling, aesthetics, and ideas
    1. The Dark Knight-A phenomenal comic book film that has fantastic performances, elements from Michael Mann’s Heat, ideas of crime, escalating conflict, the difference between good and evil, and responsibility, which makes for one of my Top 10 Favorite Movies of All Time

The Prestige I feel like is in my Top 10. You have a valid take about the characters being toxic towards each-other. I wish there was some more heart to heart between the two main characters. I feel like their rivalry is something we haven't seen a lot of in film. The ending twist I think is one of the best I have seen in a while from a film. At times I did feel like the Magic did go too far like at the end with the machine. But overall I feel like the story is good and the acting is good from Bale but not as good as movies such as American Psycho , Batman and Ford V Ferrari. Good list Sean. Always love the work and videos you put out.

Nolans biggest weakness as a director is exposition. Dunkirk is his masterpiece in my opinion and one of the biggest reason why is that its a film of audiovisual storytelling with little dialogue. It utilises the tools of the medium to warp you into the journey. Hans Zimmer's ticking store also essentially makes it an entire runtime of suspense. The cinematography and sound design is the best out of his entire filmography. I know people criticise the characters but it's a film where you're more spectacting an event, following individuals rather than going deep into them and a large story so it works well. It's a cinematic, suspenseful showcase of this historic evacuation. It is one of my favourite films and I don't think Nolan will be able to top it for me.

My rankings (rating it out of 10 because for me it's more diverse) and I'll also say what my favorite part of the movie is. Also I haven't seen insomnia or following yet
    1. Interstellar (btw just so everyone knows this is my favorite movie ever), one of the greatest scores I've ever heard and i think Nolan's best, also very emotional and some of the best visuals I've seen AND an amazing story. It might be slightly biased because i love space but this is all just my opinion (10/10)
    2. The Dark Knight, greatest villain ever in a comic book movie in my opinion but also almost every major character brings there A game here (10/10)
    3. Inception, i think the best overall story out of all these movies, also the second best visuals of any of his movies behind interstellar (9.5/10)
    4. Oppenheimer, im a movie nerd so the technical aspects of this movie is some of the best I've ever seen, the acting from our main characters is some of the best if not the best of these movie (9/10)
    5. The prestige, the dynamic between the 2 main characters is so good, and also i think the best twist out of any of these movies (9/10)
    6. Tenet, ik this probably isn't a popular opinion but i think it being still a little confusing to me is a good thing because i always want to go back and watch more, the look of this movie I've always loved too and even though confusing still at times i love the time travel aspect (8.5/10)
    7. Batman begins, the best origin story ever next to spider man, Gotham looked it's best and gordan was at his best here, not saying he was ever bad but he was at his best here in my opinion (8.5/10)
    8. Dunkirk, i think it lacks character development but the story is so good to me that it still is a very good movie, I've always loved how different this movie feels compared to other way movies (7.5/10)
    9. Memento, the story is amazing and guy pierce (sorry if i spelled it wrong) is amazing but i never really loved any of the other performances in this movie, none are bad but I don't think it's all that great either, the story is really good so it's still a pretty good rating for me (7/10)
    10. The Dark Knight Rises, the last act and ending is amazing but i think the rest of the movie is ok at best, bane is amazing but I've never been a fan of the twist towards the end because it felt forced to me (6.5/10)

A part of me will always feel like Nolan never wanted to make a third Batman film. but with WB financing inception, and with the thought that after he made a third Batman film, however good or bad it turned out, WB would be in his pocket forever, he kinda had his hands tied and just made a film without him feeling that passionate about it. That’s why it feels easily like his least focused film (while I feel like it’s still better than some of his other movies)

@@mylessmith8059I don't think the TDK series would have been a trilogy. If Ledger had not died there would have been more films. TDK story wise clearly was leading to another film of Batman vs Joker. Ledgers tragic death hurt these plans for more films. Funny enough TDKR story clearly feels like a 4th or 5th film in a series rather than a 3rd film. What you mentioned about Batman being older, body destroyed and disappearing for 8 years makes more sense for a 5th film in a series. To me it feels like Nolan took a plans of future films and accelerated them for the third film.

Tenet is my favorite Nolan movie. I watched it in a similar way that I watched memento. The movie is confusing because the character himself is confused, the time reverse is just a means he used to add complexity in a special agents duty to serve the end of having little knowledge going into his project but he must do it anyway. That’s why he never got a name because we are supposed to be the protagonist

    Unpopular opinion
TENET is my favourite Nolan till now.
Its his most simplest yet complicated movie yet.
No character development, weak story but heavily depended on the concept of time inversion.
TENET is my favourite spy movie ever because i still didn't understand the last act of the movie.
I will watch it in repeat in years to come until i understand it.

We are in the minority brother. Tenet is my favourite, maybe not his best movie from an objective point of view but there's something about it. I love the protagonist as the main character

@@serbio26 true man. Lot of my friends hate TENET because they found it hard to explain to someone when they were asked about the story.
But isn't that the beauty of Nolan movies!
It's crazy. The time inversion concept was so well executed into the spy genre.
I am definitely sure in the coming years it will be better appreciated!!

    Very Good:
12: Insomnia (This movie is very good! It’s just not a very good Nolan movie)
    Great:
11: Following (Following is criminally underrated! The twist at the end is mind blowing!)
    Fantastic:
10: Dunkirk (Dunkirk is one of the most thrilling 1hr 45mins of all time! It’s not perfect, but it’s darn close)
9: Oppenheimer (Even though it’s number 9, I still think it’s incredible! This is Nolan’s crowning achievement. I just like his other 8 films more)
8: Batman Begins (It hurts to have it this low, but the competition is insane! An amazing start to the greatest trilogy of all time!)
7: Tenet (I love Tenet! Ik it’s almost too crazy for its own good, but I think it’s a ton of fun)
6: Memento (This film blew my mind the first time watching it! It doesn’t rewatch as well, but the first time watch was just too good)
5: Interstellar (It has issues, but this movie is stellar! Interstellar. Visually stunning, emotionally driven, and just amazing!)
4: Inception (Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Its Inception. It needs no introduction, it’s just a masterpiece)
3: The Dark Knight Rises (I’ve watched this movie more than I see my family. The rewatch value is insane)
2: The Prestige (My 2nd favorite movie of all time. Yeah, I’m a bit of a Nolan fan)
1: The Dark Knight (My favorite movie of all time! It does everything right and I think it will forever be my favorite til the day I die)

I have a big problem with Inception. As a Nightmare on Elm Street and Paprika's fan, I feel it doesn't do too much with the juicy premise of thieves in the dreams. I don't want a silly movie, but I want much more out of that premise. So few surreal moments in a long movie that looks like a serious thriller the whole time. It doesn't help that Dr Strange gave us better visuals some years after that neither.
