A suggestion for the basement. is there a cleaning caddy that can be left down there, with wet ones, spray cleaner, etc so the boys could clean up any spills easily? Also waste baskets. Very important for every room. Love this video. I'm so surprized at how many books and actual bookcases you've been able to get rid of. Great job.
Edward's sleepy face just before he's asked to clean - priceless! Let's all go drag our teenager out of bed and get them Flying! Great job Sophia (and Edward). The pre-cleaned basement didn't look too bad - our family room is looking much worse - I'm gloving up and going in there right now! Tfs. Make a gardening vid when you get the chance honey.
Loss of a bookcase!!!!! I have watched you forever ever WELL DONE REMOVING something to do with books you are an inspiration to a senior Scottish long time viewerSchiff
Me too! I was in shock! But at least the books were safe! Books are integral to my home too - even if it is to just prop something up, lol! Sophia decluttered them ages ago - maybe a few more could go now to make room for some new ones!
Sophia,we all do the best we can, where we are at.:-) You work so hard all the time. We are not perfect, keep what you like, get rid of it if you want. You don't need to justify anything to us. You open yourself up to us and share and I love your videos. I just want you to give yourself a break, emotionally. We should not judge each other, try to find the good and encourage one another. You are just a sweetheart, you don't give yourself enough credit. I hope you got to enjoy time in the garden:-) Donna
You have totally inspired me! I've watched every episode so far and am looking forward to the rest. I don't want it to end :(. I started my cleaning totally against the FlyLady recommendations this week. I just wanted to get things clean. I cleaned the entry and living room from top to bottom. And I have cleaned my bedroom by 75% of what I wanted to do. Once I get through all the rooms I'll create the FlyLady zone schedule. I was just so impatient and I had the energy so why not? Thank you for doing this. I know it's time consuming and I truly appreciate all you put into making these videos!
You are doing soooo well with your decluttering ,and since you did your big 30 bags in 30 days declutter last year, you seem to be cleaning and organizing your house a lot quicker. Well done Sophia!!
I'm all about holding the boys accountable for their mess, however, I do think it can be overwhelming when allowed to get this bad. I like the suggestion of having them participate in the basement zone. I would think 15 minutes 3 times a week should be more than enough. They will likely get better at picking up just to avoid having to do it which is a win win for everyone. You and Scott are setting great examples for them to follow. I think your boys are great.
Please don't stop doing fly lady videos when you finish the zones! I love these videos so much and I would love to continue watching your journey even though I saw it already in May. 😄
You should have the boys clean up their messes in the basement every night before dinner. Put a trashcan and a few rags and all purpose. cleaner down there permanently. It will make it easier for them. When you do home blessing have them wipe the surfaces and sweep the floor.Or maybe they can take turns. And when you are in zone 5 have them do the basement, or even just help you, like you did today. They will only learn how to not make a mess if they have to clean it up themselves. Every week.
Lol! Have your children learnt, 'how not to make a mess', ?? They're kids - that's their job! Even most of us adults don't manage that too well! Do agree that some age appropriate tidying up, helping out and doing your own bedroom is good. Also, learning to budget, do your own laundry and cook some healthy meals by mid teens-ish, so you're not helpless when you leave home. But Edward and William are still very young, already do most of these things, and are well on track to be fine young men.
London Calling Sophias boys are like 10 and 15, right? In my honest oppinion that is not too young to learn to put empty cans and used tissues in the trash every night, and to wipe off a surface if they spilled syrup on it. My boys are 8 and 11, and they can do this if I tell them to.
Rikke, yes I agree. I think we're on the same page overall hun. But the boys are certainly almost there and it's a process most of us go through, whether it happens by 8 and 11, or a little later. Just as some houses are more organized than others, for a whole host of different reasons, but most of us get there in the end.
you are doing a great job! I feel ya about the basement. Mine is horrific and so overwhelming I don't physically know where to start. Right now I'm in pain after physical therapy, but watching your cleaning makes me want to do this but still can't at this point. Husband doesn't do anything at all so you can imagine how much I will have to do when Im able. Your quilt is beautiful by the way. Take care
Trash can for between the chairs and maybe a basket or little tub on the stairs or beside it for dishes and cups? Then they can bring them all up at once
I love the way you have the basement Sophia. The kids can just go down there and play games or if y'all want to watch a movie. Your boys are awesome and I feel your pain because boys can be messy. I have a teenager that is around Edwards age and I think he'd probably look lost if I gave him a brush to help me clean lol
Love these videos.... How about a washable runner of some sort for the bookcase under the TV to protect the surface so future food and whatever else lands there will not do any big damage...
Hi Sophia !!! I just have to tell you how much I love, love, love your channel !!! I have for well over a year now but I want you to know how very much I am really loving your 'Fly Lady' series !!! I even ordered the two books and control journal too !! You are very motivating I think because we are all sooooo much like you !!! lol But I gotta' say, you are too hard on yourself - which we all probably are too !! lol Anyway, keep up the great videos!!!
Sophia, the instruction with Edward to clean the entertainment center reminded me of Kim from "How Clean is Your House." Someone needs to pick you up and make a TV series. You'd be great! 😉😂😁👍🏼
Awesome as always! Our rule is no liquids or food near electronics. I would give them a small space beside where they sit. a small table that is sturdy but not precious if you know what i mean.LOL. Great job instructing ! You will see your efforts when they are grown. My little messy miss at home, shocked me when she got her own place. It was clean LOL.
I would definitely keep that TV console. Imagine all the places you will find bowls and food if not there. I like your basement. I wish I had that kind of space. Mine is unfinished and very low.
Magic eraser is my best friend getting stains etc off and in use it on just about everything, try next time on the table under the tv! also you can put a runner on that same table and maybe cover up the stain etc that didn't come off after being cleaned.
Hello Lovely lady! I love that you have put this room off and tackled other parts first, because that is exactly what happened to me when I started. Your boys are the same ages apart as mine just mine except my boys are a few years younger and it is refreshing to know I'm not the only one with Great kids that just happened to be pigs at times. LolYour life, the size of your home and kid challenges are so similar to mine and I enjoy so much your encouragement and real ness! 100 Thank you! I'm so motivated and inspired by your hard work and efforts. 2 years following you have been a blessing to me and My sanity and family.
Sophia, your basement has good "bones" and is actually a very attractive space on its own. I'm sure you'll get it looking spiffy and stylish and hopefully the boys will maintain it! I just read that today, May 30th, is Joan of Arc Feast Day. She was martyred in 1431 as you know.
Edward did good, I have been doing the 2 minute hot spots and it works really well, maybe next month you wont have to do as long on your zones and try the 5 minute room rescue and hot spots, even the kids can do it.
Two thoughts on your what should I dos!! First thought is on the surface you have your son clean, since it is already painted, maybe paint it to match your walls. That color might blend with the stain that is showing through. But I would only paint the top of is, make it a two-tone unit. Second thought, ya know the sticky note thing we do for our shiny sink, dress to shoes, well maybe make some sticky notes for your boys in the basement, throw trash away before leaving, wipe up spills, something like that. But I raised my two boys and still have issues, no flylady back in the day. Anyway, thanks for your inspiration and sharing your very real life!
I think your big curio cabinet in your living room would look good at the bottom of your stairs in the basement. It would free up so much space in your living room. Just a suggestion. You are doing a fantastic job decluttering your home. I love your videos.
Hi Sophia that spot on the entertainment center need a coat of primer and another coat of the white paint. It's the sap from the wood that's coming through I had the same problem and that sorted it.
Sofia, I'm curious about what is in the two doors behind the couch in the basement? I don't think I've ever seen you go in them. I love how you are staying with this fly lady system. And I can tell you have lost weight. You are doing good and looking good.
I have never seen the sled before in your home tours. Is it new to you? Also, you said the basement never is clean. Is it not in your Flylady Weekly Blessing routine? I am still amazed that Flylady thinks one hour a week blessing our homes will reach every room. Thanks for your hard work in posting these videos all this month. I know it couldn't be easy to do this with a family and a full-time job.
Pamela Seay I explained in the video that because it still needed decluttering I have not done the home blessing in that room. Now that it is cleaned I will maintain.
Also, you had a black or dark tray you were getting rid of in a previous video. You could put that on the entertainment cabinet where the stain is and the boys could use that tray for their drinks and food and keep the surface clean.
Pamela. I say let the kids make a mess. The basement is their den and they already do plenty around the house. So what they left some stains on a MDF, home built ,entertainment cabinet. It's not an expensive antique. Agree with you about decluttering - it's the real key to a clean home.
another great video. have you thought of maybe bringing down the wingback chairs from upstairs down to the basement? would make the basement feel larger and then you can donate or get rid of the larger ones. just a suggestion 😊 i enjoy your videos, you are doing a great job!!! i just got the sink reflections book on loan from my library and cannot wait to fully commit to the fly lady if it works for you it.can work for me. take care :)😉
I think it would be good if you were to drill a hole in the top of that cabinet/table and run your cable from your tv down to the box you have on that bottom shelf.. You would also have to drill a hole into the back of the second shelf to also run it through there and then it would hook right up to the back of your box and it wouldn't be a tripping hazard … anyway, I love your videos.. Thanks for sharing and God bless..

"Making decisions" I can totally relate right now.

I can't get over how Edward has grown in to such handsome young man, have I been following you that long? watch out mommy!!! as always great video!

I love your. shows you are so real and down to earth.
Maybe use that heavy clear plastic drawer liner or some place mats or coasters on top of the tv stand?
The chair for the dining room is amazing! Never get rid of it. :) I love that t.v stand you made. It's lovely .
Wonderful!

Have you replaced your furnace filters lately? We bought better quality ones and it made a difference in the dust in our house
Great job!
Please tell Scott I love his Boxey and Muffitt that Daggett painting. I loved the Daggett!
Hi Sophia that spot on the entertainment center need a coat of primer and another coat of the white paint. It's the sap from the wood that's coming through I had the same problem and that sorted it.
I just love your videos! I've watched every episode so far and am looking forward to the rest. I don't want it to end :(. Hugs from Brazil!
Good job Sophia, tu m'encourage vraiment pour commencer le zone cleaning
Je la trouve également très motivante :-)
the kids can do home blessing with you.

Virgie Sexton That's the boiler room and oil tank room, right? She's done amazing work in those rooms!
eavening No I've seen her in the boiler room she just cleaned it a couple weeks ago.
I have never seen the sled before in your home tours. Is it new to you? Also, you said the basement never is clean. Is it not in your Flylady Weekly Blessing routine? what about like an almost navy blue for the entertainment center???
You give me so much motivation.
good, you can do this!
Sleigh is nice ❤️ a nice Christmas prop for outside on porch (I've seen pics on Pinterest ). I would store it where Christmas items are at.
I sure wish our basement was finished with dry wall. It looks great. Scott sure had a lot of hair.
♡♡♡ I absolutely loveeeee your videos and your chit chat. You have inspired me and motivated me to be more productive. Im not married I don't have children and I live wt my parents, nevertheless I do have to have some kind of organization in this house. Thank u Sophia!

lizeee7840 Great idea!!!
Hi Sophia, I really love your fly lady series! Just a quick tip, the PS4 is also a DVD and Blueray player. When my boyfriend bought his PS4 we discarded our old DVD player and it works perfectly for us. I would encourage you to give it a try!
you can get rid of the dvd player the PS4 can play dvds :)
Hiya Sophia ♡
The music in the background is VERY laud... ;( sorry... and thank you for sharing. You are absolutely wonderful.
OMG beautiful wedding picture!!!!!
Hi Sophia.. this was the first time in one of your videos where the music drowned out your words in 2 spots.. beginning in the first corner & also at your outro
But great video nontheless!
i like your music. However, in this video I can't hear you.
The music makes it difficult to hear you.
Sophia nice photography. You and your husband? Wonderful!!!
👍🏾
Simply less furniture and decor?
Sophia hi. I have the same gold plate which I love it and the lamp is very beautiful. Bye for now.
Sophia hi. I hope you're well. I was sick for five days. I had migraine and stomache. So the house was a mess. I started the Thursday again and l had my nerves and l was exhausted. Unfortunately the other day my husband was sick with flu. That was a disaster and everything went wrong. Bye for now. Good morning.
Yes I love the chitchatting😄😄😄...I'm obviously home alone too much🙈 well, with my children since I'm a stay at home mom, but obviously I don't get to talk to or listen to another adult till late at night when my dear husband comes home 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼😄😄😄thanks for the videos!
Very handsome couple.
You really look like you've lost quite a bit of weight in this video. And now I have to go clean out a closet or something. :)
Paint it a dark color...
It's none of my business, but since you are doing a load of laundry a day, do you still need the big folding table? I mean maybe you use it still, maybe for crafts I don't know. I just thought it takes up space and maybe you can gain a little room lol. Anyways great video as always! :)
Music overrides your talking.
You don't stock electronics 9th 9th top of each ever that 8th fire hazard ..covers are make flow plastic but for certain spécification electronics and cables never should be covered from ventilation as they overheating and by that can cause fire ....I do have one in mm house last year ...was no heating and washing mm a shine exploded bus too much strain on parts ...even fire brigade was scratching them heads
I encourage you to pull back and use your timer for each task. Burn out dear. Burn out. That is a real problem.
I get so distracted, what's your secret?
remember blessing for high traffic areas.
Sophia, I couldn't understand you when the music was playing over your words. :-(
Linda Good luckily it was only for 10 seconds of the 20 minutes xo
I WOULD NEED 2 BOTTLES OF WHITE WINE. TO DO THAT 😀
You have W A Y too many Books
marcia lafreniere to each his own
Well said Sophia, there is no such thing as too many books. Our home is like a library, we do donate a lot but we keep buying them :)
