    I loved this series, thanks for doing it. I did understand one part of the book differently than you....she said to only spend 15 mins a day in each zone. So you won’t get to EVERY task on the list sometimes. But the next time that zone comes around you start where you left off. Eventually after a few cycles you will have completed everything.

    You are a teacher! I love how you showed the calendar lists, that's what really confused me, I didn't know how to plan! I am really going to try this, I work stupid hours and am tired so I need a plan. I leave my house at 3:30a.m. and get home around 2p.m. and look around at my house and don't know where to start as I have no time in the morning. I need to have lists to show me what to do! Thank you so much for putting it so simple..............Mary

    When I tried FlyLady before I tried to do every task on the detail cleaning list and I got overwhelmed and stopped, this time I am spending 15 mins a day on zones and then I am done and for me that is good enough. Like you said it is more than I am doing now and the routines and weekly home blessing are keeping my home looking pretty good, dishwasher is always empty and laundry always done. For me I have to let go of the perfectionism to make it work. Thanks for your videos Sophia, looking forward to seeing your zone cleaning.

    The first month on the FL system is no fun! It is not about the house but the change of mentality. But then the rewards are immense.... Take care of yourself, dear friend!

    Sophia, I am widowed, an empty nester, and retired. My house is uncluttered. This system works beautifully for me. But at one time I had a husband, a job, four children, three dogs, hamsters, an aquarium and... oh my goodness how did I stay sane? I think the Fly Lady system works for everyone!

    Love the explanation. It's a great system even if you're systematic and organized. I was stressing a lot before while having everything clean. Now, I'm timing myself and enjoying it more. Thanks for sharing. Blessings
    ps. My house is large. 5/3 and 3,600 square feet. Also, 1/2 an acre lot. This system works!

    Gosh, you only need to clean the pet dishes once a month. Think the Flylady needs to relook at her lists, as I'm sure all us pet owners wash their dishes more often than that. Great video Sophia I am going to follow this zone routine but it's going to need to be adjusted to suit my small English home. Also need to add in the shed as I tend to use mine as a dumping area.

    Sofia, you have been doing very good at staying with the program. I haven't been able to stay with it as good as you, but I have been maintaining a clean house. When I was in my teens, & twenty and early thirty's I kept my house very clean. I was a clean freak. Then I had kids and the kids took over the house. lol Now I'm trying to get my Grove back. Have been doing pretty good. I am proud to see you sticking with it. Live your videos. tfs

    Hi Sophia, you are looking so very pretty today, and that jumper looks great on you! Thanks for re-inforcing in me the zones, although I am still deep into decluttering...so not there yet. One thing though Sophia, I think you may be putting on too much...I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that flylady suggests - then of course we all tweak it for our own life - to do less, just a little every day (or a little more only on some days if different schedule) in the zones, without having to do it all - BOING BOING PERFECTIONISM ALERT!! :-)) - and if you get to the end of the week and did not cover the whole list, it gets rescheduled to the next month. This can happen when there are only a few days for that zone/ when you have many rooms that go under a certain area category/ when you just can't make it happen. So the detailed cleaning is supposedly done in the month, but it can slip to the next month for certain items on the list, it still gets done way more than normal in this way. Great job! looking forward to your videos! Take care of yourself too!!

  • @lillypetals5762

    I would do half the chores for the zone and then wait the next month and do the rest. zone 2 month 1: cabinets, fridge, wood trimmings, drawers, under sink. Zone 2 month 2: oven, stove, Windows, cupboards, pantry, and floors. Just a suggestion. I am a stay at home mom and I don't do all the chores each week. I split them up. the only things I do consistently is cobwebs, vacuum, dust, and mop. the other tasks are special and don't need to be done each week. I do hope you figure out what works for you. I was like you in the beginning. I did everything and then figured out that some things just didn't need to be done each month. it might help to do the flylady Rebecca's missions too. Each week she posts 5 missions. I do all that apply to me and most of the time that takes care of 2/4 of my chores.

      Flylady says no zone cleaning until the de-cluttering process is done. Do 15 minutes a day in the zone of the week. :-) I jumped ahead (many times trying the Flylady system) and the it did not work and I gave up. Just take baby steps.

    Thanks for sharing. I’m new to learning about the FlyLady but my perception of zone cleaning was 15 minutes per day over the course of the week and what dosnt get done on your list gets done the next time your back cleaning that zone.
    Nonetheless, love your videos.

      @gball2221 5 років тому

      Yes, I think you're right. Everything doesn't have to be done every week....you just do what you can during your allotted time, check it off the list and whatever is left gets done the next time you are in that zone.

    Very nice job,thanks for explaining. I think that the cleaning list is there so that you know what you have to do,but you are not supposed to do all of it every month. I was under the impression that you work on the zones 1 or 2 days of the week, 15 or more minutes at a time,and then you continue working in that zone next month. So that you dont get overwhelmed and also so that you dont clean all the time. I may be totally wrong though.

    • @mygreatchallenge

    Sophia, can't you add additional zones instead of trying to pack everything into just 5 weeks. Especially for someone with a large home like yours. You have 4 floors including basement, plus yard and garage. I think if you try to put too much into each zone then you (generic you) will become overwhelmed and then you're back to square one. Thoughts?

    • @dorothy9618

    Such a great series Sophia and I'm loving it, thank you x Only thing is, the pet dishes, you clean them once or twice a week? Is that when they're washed thoroughly in dishwasher but usually washed in sink each day? We only have one furbaby, our much loved dog Jade but her dishes are washed each day. I'd no sooner re-fill her dish with her dinner without washing it than I would serve our dinner on same dishes we used day before without washing them. I'm so not complaining or "having a go" at you, you mean too much to me for that, I adore your channel and it really makes my day to see that you've uploaded a new video. Just trying to understand is all. Am I being odd? I admit I have a touch of selective ocd when it comes to all things germy & bacteria -y
    I had such a good de-cluttering week last week, not big things like furniture but I have been going through drawers and cupboards and my donate bags keep filling, I owe all of that to you. You're an inspiration Sophia, thank you for helping me to stay motivated and for always making me smile. Sending heaps of hugs from bonnie Scotland x

    • @mygreatchallenge
      @mygreatchallenge  7 років тому +2

      I don t wash their dish every day. they take too much room in the dishwasher. I would say maybe every two to three days. I don't like doing them by hand because of all the slime

    • @lisamaree513
      @lisamaree513 7 років тому +1

      Rosies Cottage Don't forget that animals eat raw food, carrion, offal, and other nasties....and they clean themselves with their tongues. So they are far more tolerant of bacteria than we are. (Which is why is always a good idea to wash your hands after handling any animal, even those you love with all your heart. 💕)
      Having said that I wouldn't deliberately give them food in an obviously dirty dish, but there is no need to disinfect their dishes every day.

      Thank you Sophia for taking time to reply. We don't have a dishwasher so everything done by hand here, although Hubby helps bless him. Our furbaby Jade has dry food, the Vet's Kitchen one, so it's like little crunchy pieces, so all it leaves in her bowl is a sort of dust sometimes, like from cereal? I think you're right, maybe I am being a bit paranoid but I get so worried she'll get ill since I lost one of my furbabies to cancer. Thank you for your help and for replying, sending hugs from a very rainy Scotland xx

    • @RosiesCottageBlog
      @RosiesCottageBlog 7 років тому

      Thank you Lisa, you're right, our furbaby probably has a better immune system than I have and since her food is a dry dog food even wiping out her dish with a dry, clean microfibre cloth would remove the dust that falls from her food, bit like from dry cereal. As I said in my reply to Sophia, I'm just so nervous that things can make Jade ill after having lost a furbaby in the past to cancer. Thank you for replying, it means a lot to me, sending hugs from a rainy Scotland xx

    Je pense qu'avec la vie que nous menons actuellement nous pourrions étendre les zones sur deux mois. Dans le programme Fly Lady plein de détails manquent... si nous voulons avoir une maison impeccable, petit à petit, 8 ou 10 semaines sont nécessaires. Ne t'épuise pas Sophia! Un bonjour de Bruxelles 😘

  • @rikkeholmberg
    @rikkeholmberg 7 років тому +4

    This would definately have me overwhelmed. I really think you do not have to do the entire detailed cleaning list every month. Other flyladys say that you do only one hour of zone cleaning each week. So you choose tasks from the list, and next month you will do something else. Many tasks on the list do not have to be done every month.

      Rikke Holmberg thanks for pointing this out!!! I really am not up for never-ending spring cleaning every day forever....I thought fly lady said you worked 15 minutes in the zone daily, and what you didn't do this month gets done eventually as you do the zones every month.

      Exactly. 15 minutes a day in the zone for four days of the week. That is one hour 😊

      Rikke Holmberg Sophia is only doing 1/2 hr / day. And then stopping. If she gets the whole list done for the zone ... good on her. But I'll bet her cabinet fronts won't need cleaning in June 😉 Unless she's a really messy cook 😄

    it took me a while, till I realized, that zone cleaning is not necessarily about completing all tasks every month in each zone week. it depends on how long it takes. as I understood recently, it is about doing a couple of 15 min steps throughout the week. depending on the time and time table one has. and depending on how much decluttering is still needed. e.g. if some of the detail cleaning tasks have not been completed, then one can come back to that or continue next month... is that so? as a person with a job, what is your experience or recommendation, on how much minimum time should one invest daily in zone cleaning? or would you recommend to have days off from the zones during the week but then do about 3x or 4x15 min for zone cleaning? any suggestions or did you do a video about this already?

    • @mygreatchallenge
      @mygreatchallenge  7 років тому +3

      Michele McGill you put that room on hold unless you still use it, then do what you can or nothing at all. it s flexible there are no rules. you clean for 15 minites in each zone everyday. what tou can t get done this week you do next month when you re in that zone again.

    I think your new haircut is very pretty 😊 I also think you are overly ambitious and will not be able to keep this up. With your schedule I would do this: keep the Home blessing on sunday if that works for you. The two days you are home late forget the zones. Focus on routines and self pampering. Do the zone work only one hour a week. Maybe half an hour on saturday and 15 minutes on two other days. This is what works for me. You will not get the entire cleaning list done in a week, but next month you will do something else.

      if you did one room's drapes and blinds on rotation instead of all the house at once it may actually be more of a quarterly thing... If you have cats (or dogs!) that hang out in the windows though you may feel better washing them on a five-week schedule to get their hair and allergens out. Like Sophia says it's what works for you! For ME I think if I did the living room one week, kitchen/dining another, each kids room, spare room, basement, and master all on separate weeks when I am otherwise caught up that it would be a good rotation and the task wouldn't feel so daunting! I think that would put me on about an 8-week rotation if I also do the ones on the doors. Every two months definitely doesn't seem like a lot. I have allergies and often forget these so it may just be what I need to really help my home be more nice to me! LOL!!

    Dear Sophia, you have a stressful job, a long work day, a long commute,
    husband, children, dogs - I hope you don't crash and burn. Just do what
    you can do, something is better than nothing. You don't need to do everything in the zone cleaning list to see benefits. And don't forget day 29 of
    the 31 beginner babysteps - 15 minutes of pampering, me time, self care
    time - what ever you want to call it - 15 minutes a day, everyday, it
    recharges your batteries, makes you less grumpy, helps you slow down.

    That cranberry and bronze square pillow is taking away from your wonderful and fresh-looking bed ensemble. Your bed looked much better without it. There comes a point when something is "too much". When your bed looks "too much", the temptation to overdo on other things in the bedroom can take over. We artists have to learn the value of negative space. It gives the eye a rest and allows it to notice what you want it to notice -- the good stuff.
